so i decided to check the charts of ex/current partners of some selected well known ketu men.

See, Timothee Chalamat having dated Rahu and Jupiter girls kinda validates my theory of Ketu men going for these planetary archetypes. I also see Moon and Mercury nakshatra women.

The Northern Music Awards will take place at the Albert Hall on April 23 and will also feature performances from Courteeners frontman Liam Fray and indie hip hop star Antony Szmierek.

Manchester music royalty Lisa Stansfield is to be honoured with the title of ‘Northern Icon’ at the first ever Northern Music Awards.

The singer, best known for hits including All Around the World, In All The Right Places, and People Hold On, will receive the accolade during the awards event at the Albert Hall on April 23.

Lisa will also perform at the awards ceremony, alongside a line-up including Courteeners frontman Liam Fray, indie hip hop artist Antony Szmierek, Leeds quartet English Teacher and Warrington-based band The K’s. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

The Nordoff and Robbins Northern Music Awards have been created to recognise and celebrate the breadth of talent across the North of England. Spice Girl star Melanie C will be honoured with a Special Recognition award, whilst Aitch’s Manchester-based manager Michael Adex, who is behind the NQ talent agency, will receive the first ever Industry Icon Award.

completely unrelated question to anything going on but have you ever seen cabaret? (either the 1972 movie or any of the musical productions (i.e. 1983 or 2014 with alan cumming))

ah, cabaret and i have a long and storied history. a difficult one in certain ways emotionally/thematically (never have i felt more like i was going to be sick in a theatre than at the punch that closes "if you could see her," which is exactly the point!), yet with songs that i adore and will listen to and sing around the house at the drop of a hat. i have seen the movie several times (and own it! bob fosse's direction, LIZA, joel grey, legends all), i own the soundtrack and the 1998 revival cast recording, i've seen a bootleg of an alan!emcee production though atm i cannot recall who played his sally (i've also seen pieces of michael c. hall's performance in the role), i've sung "maybe this time" onstage, and i've seen it live locally - it was following that perfectly marvelous production of cabaret that my mom and i had the car accident that ultimately ended my life as i knew it, we went specifically for my theatre class (my professor co-directed the production and i was going to write a paper on it, instead i had to drop out of college...something something start by admitting from cradle to tomb, it isn't that long a stay!). it has really weird significance in my life, my mom has trauma around it, but i still have this dark love and fascination towards it. kander and ebb's musical work for it is so genius (as of course it is for chicago too), everything fosse infused it with both on broadway and on film is so iconic that it's almost taken for granted what an influence he had (chair-eography, anyone?). that sharp contrast between the brightness of the facade and the terror and tragedy lurking everywhere beneath it, the inescapable cynicism choking the desperate desire for something more akin to hope. lady peaceful, lady happy, that's what i long to be...

Once upon a time, it was claimed “The sun never sets on the British Empire.” (2) That statement uniquely qualifies the unmeasurable reach of British rule and imperialism, especially during the 18th through to the first half of the 20th centuries. While judging the historical record of Western Colonialism, we tend to discard, perhaps through ignorance or bias, the history of Eastern Colonialism. Slavery, a disgusting and dehumanizing product of colonialism existed long before western colonialism – in ancient Greece (3), Rome (4), Israel and Iraq (5), China (6), Africa (7,8), America (9), and India. (10,11) Slavery is the 2nd most extreme presupposition of the inequality of people. The 1st is human sacrifice, a custom erected to placate the gods and emperors alike, and which was adhered, in many olden cultures. (12,13,14)

The ancient and other more recent human sacrifices, including the Holocaust (15), were enabled through the belief in one supreme authority – a godlike figure, so to speak. This went against our better judgement and nature – an equality among people which breeds mutual respect, aid and peace.

Following the decolonization process across the world, generally from the 1960s through 1970s, we witnessed the creation or perhaps, re-creation of local elites into kings and dictators – from Africa (Selassie, Amin, Boumediene, Mobuto), Central and South America (Batista, Noriega, Videla, Somoza), China (Mao), Koreas (Kim, Park), South-East Asia (Suharto, Marcos, Lee), the Middle-East, (Nasser, al Assad, Arafat) and so on. Some were ceremonially crowned with a good deal of pomp, the most visually colourful perhaps was Emperor Bokassa’s of the Central African Republic (16), while others preferred the imperial accoutrements of palatial homes and a well-equipped personal and mercenary guard force numbering in the thousands – to keep the people enamoured and of course, completely subdued.

“Most wise men in their private sentiments have ever treated hereditary right with contempt; yet it is one of those evils which when once established is not easily removed: many submit from fear, others from superstition, and the more powerful part shares with the king the plunder of the rest.” (1)

Jeff Beck, that most energetic and talented musician/guitarist passed away on Jan. 10, 2023. He was 78 years.

I first came to know of Mr. Beck’s musical talent whilst a low teen in the early 1970s. Guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana, Terry Kath and of course, Jeff Beck were our heroes and inspiration. They kept many of us going through our teenage angst.

Mr. Beck began his career in the 1960s, initially in one of the most iconic rock bands, The Yardbirds. He had a very long and certainly illustrious career, receiving numerous accolades along the way, including inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He shall be missed and always remembered.

CSG Grades Iconic 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle Card Valued at Over $2 Million

Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®) is thrilled to announce that it has just certified two examples of the iconic 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle card, one of them valued at more than $2 million! Graded CSG 8, it is the most valuable card that CSG has certified since it launched in early 2021.

Fewer than 20 are graded higher out of about 2,000 in the world, including one that sold for $12.6 million in August 2022, setting a record for most expensive sports card at auction.

"It was an honor to authenticate and grade what is one of the most valuable cards in the hobby," said Andy Broome, Vice President of CSG. "This resounding affirmation from the collecting world follows CSG's monumental efforts to quickly become one of the market's leading third-party authentication, grading and encapsulation services. We look forward to seeing more cards of this caliber."

In addition to the Type 1 example graded CSG 8, CSG also certified a Type 2 example CSG 4.5. A card with that grade would be expected to sell for about $100,000 at auction.

On its certification label, CSG attributes the type of the Mickey Mantle #311 card. Minor differences, such as the direction of the seams on the baseball on the back of the card, distinguish the two types. To learn more about the differences, click here or watch the video below.

The Mantle card stands at the pinnacle of the sports collecting world for many reasons. In 1952, Mantle's All-Star career had just begun, and the world of sports cards was being revolutionized by a newcomer known as Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. Topps' ambitious 1952 set is widely considered to have set the framework for modern sports cards. Unfortunately, it did not sell well, resulting in an inglorious fate for high-numbered cards like the #311 Mickey Mantle. Legend has it that New York City-based Topps loaded unsold cases of these cards onto a barge and sent them to a watery grave.

Mantle played for the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968, when they won seven World Series championships. He won the Triple Crown in 1956 (leading in batting average, home runs and RBIs) and the Gold Glove Award in 1962. Many consider the Hall of Famer to be the best switch hitter in history.

Increasingly, collectors are turning to CSG to certify some of the greatest sports cards in the hobby. CSG also holds the distinction of being the fastest third-party grading service to certify more than 1 million cards. Among the great cards that CSG has graded are:

Courteeners, English Teacher and Louis Tomlinson were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.

The inaugural ceremony – hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins – took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester last night (April 23) to celebrate northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures.

Soloist and former One Direction member Tomlinson was named Artist Of The Year at the first Northern Music Awards.

In a video acceptance speech, the ‘Faith In The Future’ singer said: “It means the world to win Artist Of The Year, thank you, thank you, thank you. And thanks to Nordoff And Robbins for doing such an incredible thing.”
