We got some super hot new repros of some seriously rare 60s r&b and garage killers in stock
Tumblr media
These are always pressed in limited quantities, and are rarely repressed. Get ‘em so you don’t have to shell out for the originals that you won’t find anyway! THE SPITS 6th album is back in stock at the USA and Berlin stores, and has arrived at Slovenly Mexico, too! Exclusive to the USA store, we just got more copies of the first album by The Muffs. Our love for this record can’t ever be overstated. Check out this new LP by THE TOADS featuring members of MIDNITE SNAXXX / LOLI & THE CHONES + ICKY BOYFRIENDS / HANK IV and a couple punxxx from the staff of MRR. Can’t get better credentials than that. For you CD hounds and bump ‘n grind music aficionados out there, there are new versions of Las Vegas Grind and Jungle Exotica that have been remastered and now include deluxe booklets AND in swank digipak cases! Last, and definitely not least, we’re giving our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION to the new single from Dutch band THE VANCOOTHS on Certified PR Records. We also have a few copies of their self-released LP that is extremely limited and inexplicably slept on. We’re the only place in the USA to have the LP, which is criminal. Get it now and thank us later!

MIDNITE SNAXXX with New Release "No Time to Spend"
MIDNITE SNAXXX with New Release “No Time to Spend”
Four-piece punk rockers Midnite Snaxxx returns with new single released last Friday called “No Time to Spend”. This single is found on the Typical Girls Volume 2 LP and it’s the perfect song to spend rocking the Monday morning away. You might remember my Q&A with the band last year before their trip to Memphis to play Gonerfest 13. I have kept up with them ever since. It’s catchy, pure punk and…

MIDNITE SNAXXX in Metronome Magazine-Boston:
MIDNITE SNAXXX 7” Single • Contact Contamination • Fight Back
Ever prolific, Midnite Snaxxx used a brief respite in the pandemic to record this effervescent and meaningful single marking a departure from their previous Ramonesque discography. I’m briefly reminded of punkier Siouxsie on the vocal tone and the void like solo. “Fight Back” is relentless and shouty for their most hardcore release yet. I would hazard aguess that there is a serious political message here. Well done. [Gecko]

coming 11 January 2021 on black or white waxxx!
MIDNITE SNAXXX "Contact Contamination" EP by Midnite Snaxxx
On their urgent new single, Midnite Snaxxx flex all the might that they’ve honed over the last decade-plus, charging more confidently than ever. Born outta deep frustration and recorded just as the planet entered lockdown, Snaxxx go fully hi-fi with this latest burst, laying down a pair of breathless punk bangers that perfectly soundtrack the swirl of madness and panic we collectively find ourselves grappling with. Expertly arranged and executed punk rock, shot straight from the heart.

Dulcinea from Midnite Snaxxx
weighs in a recent documentary about Native Americans in rock’n’roll:
“Hi All,
I just wrote a short reflection of the film Rumble: Indians Who Rocked The World and its relation to Chicano music. I thought I would share it.
The documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked The World brings to light the deep connection,  influence, and contribution of the first music of the Americas by its indigenous peoples on modern American music - blues, jazz, rock n'roll, rap, and beyond.
On-screen, the starkest example of how native or traditional music has shaped the origins of the blues is in the scene where a member of Ulali, a Native American women's acapella group, can be seen listening to a Charlie Patton record. Her instinctual and joyous reaction recognizes the direct line to Native American music. Through the "heartbeat" of the drum and the traditional vocal treatment, this mingling of indigenous Americans and Africans in the Americas laid the foundation of American music. These sounds continue to evolve in this ever-changing musicscape in the human exploration of a more profound understanding of this melting pot of race, culture, and politics.
If, as Muddy Waters claims, the "Blues had a baby and named it rock n'roll," Link Wray was paramount in this next wave of trailblazing music. Informed by his Shawnee heritage, experience with racial discrimination, and the guitar teachings of a black blues musician named Hambone, Link helped shape a new era of rock music that would reverberate with its unique and revolutionary sounds of distortion into the here and now.
Link Wray's most famous song, Rumble, struck a rebellious chord in America's youth with its wild attitude, menacing feel, and raw guitar. It was considered so intense and subversive sounding that it became the only instrumental banned from radio stations. Moreover, this new powerful and proto-punk sound unleashed a torrent of devotee guitar players worldwide, making Link Wray a universally revered musician to some of rock n' rolls' most famous guitar players and bands, Pete Townsend, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan.
As a guitar player myself, I can pinpoint Link Wray's sway in my own fuzzy guitar journey and, at times, songwriting. I learned of Link Wray's music through The Cramps, who were masters of schooling audiences to early and rare rock n' roll gems. As a result, I heavily identified with the sentiment and sound of Rumble in the way it invokes a sense of triumph over the conformity of mainstream society. Later, I discovered the Link Wray album released in 1971 and found an even more profound and considered expression, this time with a weathered yet perfectly suited vocal atop a mix of roots, country, blues, and backwoods gospel influences. The fact that he could continue singing with one lung after contracting tuberculosis was a feat.
My own experience as a Chicanx musician and self-identifying punk is an excellent example of how the music of past generations both affects and creates new cultures. The beauty of creating new expressions and genres is the recycling, modifying, and transforming music's fundamental core as passed down to us by our indigenous and black ancestors.
My first band in the 90s, The Loudmouths, https://theloudmouths.bandcamp.com/track/feelin-alright is an excellent example of this influence and hybridity. If I had to pick it apart, I could locate the distorted sound and power chords descended from Link Wray, the tough exuberance of Chicana punk pioneer Alice Bag of The Bags, and the primitive framework of The Ramones school of catchy, short tracks.
Chicano music is informed by the descendants of many different cultures and includes hybrids of many genres.  My musical journey has generally led me to the rougher edges to follow and find inspiration in our Chicano punk rock ancestors -The Zeros aptly referred to as "the Mexican Ramones," The Plugz, The Brat, and the legendary Kid Congo. But, further, as I reach deeper into my psyche, I find the impressionable roots of early Chicano rock n' rollers like Ritchie Valens, Freddie Fender, Question Mark, and the Mysterians, Thee Midniters, and Sir Douglas Quintet.
Music is how we identify culturally, and it runs deep sometimes unconsciously. It is how we relate to each other, how we come together,  how we celebrate, and how we grieve. Music is the pleasurable rhythmic soundtrack of our lives and exists for anyone willing to listen. Music is life.”
