I think there’s a beauty in being ambiguous to some extent. You can cross over into different spaces and maybe that allows you to bring a new perspective into the world and identify with others that don’t fit into a space. If I can connect with someone who’s othered in terms of ableism, their sexuality or whatever, because of my heritage, that’s useful. I like the way that I am and I wouldn't want to be any other way – I guess that's what I like about being mixed. . . Se non ti è mai capitato prima, è facile lasciarsi ingannare dalle persone che si conoscono da poco tempo. Si ha l’impressione che siano migliori dei vecchi amici. Gli attribuiamo le qualità più nobili, solo perché non le conosciamo bene. Possono essere simpatici e gentili la prima, la seconda e pure la terza volta. In casi particolari anche la quarta e la quinta. Ma alla fine resti quasi sempre deluso. Non è assolutamente necessario che tu faccia tutto bene. Cerca di fare del tuo meglio. Non puoi occuparti di tutto e di tutti, tranne di te stessa. Non sei perfetta. Anzi, a volte sei un'insieme incredibile di difetti, che saresti da mandare al diavolo. Perché sei testarda come un mulo, dici no e poi fai sì, ti arrabbi, fai fuochi d'artificio ma poi basta un abbraccio per scioglierti. Sei orgogliosa da far schifo, dici che non hai bisogno di niente e di nessuno, ma dentro sei un fuoco di carezze inespresse, di baci trattenuti, morsicandoti la lingua. E pure i tuoi occhi che tradiscono ogni tua parola. Hai un mondo pazzesco dentro, un abisso di profondità da far paura che nessuno si è mai assunto "l'onere" di esplorare. Per superficialità e forse anche per paura di perdersi. Perché da una come te, non c'è più possibilità di tornare indietro. Se trovi la chiave giusta, non ne esci più. Non c'è più un dopo o un prima. “My school was predominantly white, with a large Scottish-Pakistani population, and a small number of black pupils who had moved to Scotland recently, but it was very segregated and these groups barely mixed. All my new friends were white and so I quite suddenly got this sense of being different that I really hadn’t had up until that point.
