Moth Mondays with the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera: Wally Gator "himself"

Good to be back in this accustomed #MothMonday space and time ... and it seems no less than our schwingin' alligator has something up his sleeve:

... and you thought Weeki Wachee was about the only place in Florida with live mermaids, don't you know ... as a diving addict of sorts, freediving in particular, I couldn't help but bring up one particularly interesting mermaid encounter:

Over in the Central Florida springs country past Orlando (I'd rather not mention the exact location), I stumbled upon a rather unknown spring ... a spring whose sheer clarity and depth of field was unlike any other spring you may have encountered, especially when you're a diver type. It happens that the spring lets out some 5,000 gallons of fresh water a minute, and the pressure of those springs is certainly enough to require your hanging on to your dive mask lest it suddenly pop off your face. I decided to do a little camping and diving for a weekend which would have otherwise been sheer ennui last seen under Zookeeper Twiddle back at the City Zoo in my own experience ... and on this one almost sultry morning, yours truly plunged into the spring's 73-degree waters (which are constantly at that temperature all year, don't you know) for a serious dive unlike any other.

And as an alligator like myself, you recognise how wonderful freediving is rather quickly, especially when it's rather difficult to figure how deep the spring is when water's constantly shooting forth from the bottom, and the said bottom tends to be sandy and/or rocky. Didn't it feel refreshing ... until you were wondering if someone was secretly watching you, perhaps someone else being aware of the spring as a dive spot besides yourself ... and when you go back to the surface, dry yourself off and catch your breath, you suddenly discover--

"Hi--"

"I'm Wally Gator. Surprised you lived in this spring."

"And you may be surprised to find I'm a mermaid."

"YOU'RE A MERMAID--?!!" I exclaimed rather excitedly.

I couldn't believe it: The long golden hair, for one, was a sure giveaway. Not to mention the tail, a sort of chartreuse-green, if you ask me. And rather smooth, as opposed to scaly-looking, such being the impression people get about mermaids to begin with.

"And I thought all this time," I added, "that there were mermaids at Weeki Wachee!"

"Those aren't real mers," that mermaid remarked. "They're mainly for the tourists."

"And to think I was wondering all along if there really was a mermaid outside of Weeki Wachee!"

"Well," the mermaid purred somewhat seductively, "want to dive with me?"

"Would I? WOULD I?? THAT would be an interesting prospect, don't you know!"

"Anyway, I'll let you catch your wind for a few ... I'll wait here in the shallows ... and we'll dive together, alright?"

"You bet your sweet Hush Puppies, I would!!"

It took about ten minutes for yours truly to get back into anything closely resembling a decent diving condition, including some limbering-up exercises, before mermaid and alligator took to the spring's depths. "Just follow me into the water ..." the mermaid remarked as we broke away from the shallows ... and did it actually feel rather refreshing, almost exciting even, to discover a rather remote spring such as this with an honest-to-Goshen mermaid! And what was equally interesting was how she found my diving to be rather graceful and wonderful ... not to mention her slyly suggesting that maybe I should make love to her as a "show of friendship" more than anything. And boy, did this alligator actually enjoy the sensation of such a lovemaking with a mermaid. And underwater, besides!

And was I smitten with her when I surfaced back and returned to my camp, taking a meal-replacement shake for my lunch, or facsimile thereof. (That campout, to be frank about it, relied almost exclusively on meal-replacement shakes for my meals. I try to pack light, you know....)

🌙"Welcome to Midnight Moth Mondays.🌠 Live from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, it's me, Aurelian, your friendly neighborhood Moth Man."🦋 This image, lighting & all, has been in my head for a very long Time. I am SO, so happy the visuals turned out exsctly as I imagined, especially in traditional! Aurelian began as a Twitch handle I headcanoned for the psychic Indrid Mothman, but I decided the concept was too much fun, so I reworked the idea into a Mothman persona of sorts, if you will. (Aurelian is an old-fashioned name for an expert in moths & butterflies.) Aurelian is the Twitch name for a mysterious humanoid man who seems to stream himself speedrunning various video games with ease. His IP address hails from Point Pleasant, WV, where numerous Mothman sightings have occurred. Many of Aurelian's streamers have noted that he takes inspiration from the cryptid legend in a unique way for a net persona. In reality, the runner is the unnamed Moth Man, of an otherwordly race of moth folk that are rumored to be numerous. He openly states that he was in Point Pleasant during the sightings, but concedes it's also very possible to have spotted another mothfolk. Aurelian uses low quality webcam footage to keep viewers guessing if he's a well-made puppet or a guy gifted at making prosthetics/special effects. He took up speedrunning thanks to his buglike reflexes.
