Mystery and the Seikaiju

Sometime before giving Shiromori life Mystery devoured a fruit from a tree known to little as the Seikaiju (world tree). Before then Mystery was merely a gitsune but eating the solo fruit not only transformed him into a kitsune but gave him various abilities only weilded by a being simply coined as ‘Kami’. In every MSA universe there is a Seikaiju and one who ate it’s fruit to see the ‘Eternal Web of Fate’ and gain a link to the entity called ‘The Web Keeper.’.

Enigma ; The Keeper of the Web

“To many it is a myth but to yokai and any paranorma without it we and everyone and everything would cease to exist. The very knowledge of it can tend to drive most to madness. ‘Enigma’ is only just a name for a being that is beyond comprehension that any mere god or Kami. It doesn’t care for worship ; it’s aim is the maintenance Web of Fate (MSA Multiverse) come the End.”

Enigma or Web Keeper is a primordial entity that’s said to have seen all possible futures, pasts and presents all at once since it’s an extension of an entity simply called [[redacted]]. Not much is known about this multiversal. The picture above is a mural discovered in the ruins of [[location redacted]].

Arthur’s Ambivalence

While his aversion to the paranormal is due to his latent clairvoyance it’s tied back to the disappearance of his cousin who set up to move out of his biological dad’s home and to Lance’s shop instead. His name was Murlyn Kingsmen ; Lance’s son and a close mutual friend to Duet. He was researching paranormal activity at an abandoned mining site farther in the desert in what the locals called ‘the giants graveyard’ because of the shape of the buttes. Many call this particular location “The Living Tombstone” because of the reported activity from there. One day he just vanished without a trace.

The Mystery Skulls write pulp paranormal romance novels as part of their income and to destress.

They all brainstorm on the characters and the plot, with Vivi creating the plot twists that make their series so suspenseful. Then she leaves the writing process - but not the ‘working on the ideas - until Lewis has written several drafts. She looks at the books like a reader who will later buy the book.

She usually doesn’t like this genre of romance or romance books at all. She doesn’t like how formulaic they are. It makes a difference to be involved in the ideas and give fresh perspectives, however.

Plus, their stories are often spooky. That’s always a plus for her.

Vivi also covers the marketing and selling of the books as well as their contracts. Her job at The Tome’s Tomb has taught her a lot.

Lewis is excellent at wielding romantic tropes and building up a relationship in stories. He’s also the main writer, putting their ideas into prose.

Arthur is the alpha reader. He points out the first draft’s weaknesses and strengths and checks with Lewis and Vivi what they want sort of mood they want to achieve with the story.

i wish we collectively could have an honest, open discussion about how unfriendly rp spaces still are to people of colour even if they are lead by people of colour, or well-meaning whites.

like, idk, there's still like antiblack events/scenes/dialogues that take place or biases towards white/white passing characters. this doesn' even begin to cover the cliquey nature of rp spaces as is and again, how biased people are and can be even if they claim otherwise. you could have the most open, friendliest space in the world, sure, but even then, they'd still be guilty of at least either: petty gossip or snobbish rpers who think they and the characters they portray (original or canon) are better than you and yours, or hell, just cliquey, exclusionary behaviour.

also, too, usually (i've experienced this myself a lot), if you're a person of colour in an rp space, 9/10 people who are not the same race as you will do just about anything to get your approval with portrayals/creations of characters solely to appease you and not because they have a desire to branch out or challenge themselves to make a character or portray a character that's nothing like them.

Looking back at Arthur’s concept and his prosthesis, I wonder if he needed a prothesis at all or made it so people would stop looking at him? Maybe it was some internalized ableism. Plus as a project to distract himself from what happened in the cave.

The muscles of the residual limb are always more precise than any prosthesis. A prosthesis is clunky and will never have the same dexterity as a the lost limb. From my research, any (or most) upper limb prosthetic limbs will eventually gather dust locked away because the amputees are so frustrated with them.

It feels to me that he, Vivi, and Mystery started their road trip shortly after Arthur learned how to use his prosthesis. Which, creating the limb, learning to work with it, etc. would have been several months at most.

So maybe Arthur is trying to stick through using the prosthesis no matter how inconvenient it is. Not to mention the pain from the pressure and the sores.

Eventually he gets fed up and stops using it. He doesn’t lose anything with one arm. He gets good at ignoring or pushing back at abled people who are being assholes about him being an amputee.

This reminds of a cool post where the OP talked about this topic, but I’m not sure where it’s anymore. So shout-out to OP! I hope I can find your post again so, if it’s okay to reblog, I’ll reblog it!

So for the time, I’ll write down my own thoughts.

Arthur would need help from others with things that require both hands. But he’d also learn how to do things with his right arm, what is left of his left one, the rest of his body, and tools that help him.

Driving? How many people who have two working hands drive daily while only using one? I imagine that he creates a mechanism in the van that works with his residual limb or other muscles so he has more control and less to worry about when he needs to switch gears, for example. One too many car chases while he was at the wheel.

On the other hand, the Mystery Skulls get very good at switching seats even at high speeds when Vivi or Lewis have to take over. Needs must and what you know. (Doesn’t make it less scary.) It helps that Lewis is a ghost.

Opening a jar? Arthur jams the glass between his knees and pries the lid open.

Lewis = Bisexual and polyamorous. I remember I also liked the hc of him being transmasc and/or nb! He has a lot of gender actually. Gender Not Conforming too as well me thinks

Vivi = Bisexual, polyamorous and transfem. She's just some girl who loves being herself and loves people.

Arthur = Pansexual, demiromantic, polyamorous, and same with Lew! I like Arthur being transmasc and/or anything but cis. My guy is just cisn't energy.

Shiromori = Pan AroAce. I am projecting on her. And also agender. Mayhaps demi girl. She has sm gender that it cancels itself. /j

Pancake and Arthur - MSA AU Lore

Here's some lore with Pancake and Arthur. Idk what to call this AU yet, throw me some ideas pls

Some of the lore can be found here, but I'm willing to summarize a bit.

Pancake is the third wheel. She has two childhood friends (which is canon in the OG story, Leave Death to the Professionals). When they got closer and started dating, she was happy for them! They looked happy, and they still included her. That was until she was getting shafted, pushed aside, a "oh right you're here!" kind of thing.

Being alone with no one, Pancake felt she needed to find someplace else. It's not like her friends would miss her, right? So she hopped onto her motorcycle and drove off. To where, she didn't know, but also didn't care.

One day she was just tired. Tired of being left alone, tired of being yelled at for being half alien/human, tired of a lot of things. So she hopped onto her motorcycle and left. It was around midnight where it had problems, so she found the closest town and met Lance. She told him she needed a place to stay, he told her where a motel was, and the next day she decided to sightsee.

This is where she met Vivi and Lewis! (This is after Future and Viv and Lewis started dating again, being more inclusive with Arthur) Upon meeting another person fascinated with the paranormal, she and Vivi bonded really quickly. And also bc Pancake was able to tell Lewis was dead. Despite his disguse.

After talking with the two for a few hours, she went back to the shop to check in on the motorbike. And lo and behold, there's a cute guy there! They introduced themselves, and yes this is Arthur! He liked the bike. The two of them also bonded, and it got to the point he started inviting her out to activities.

However she soon saw Lew and Vi were a type to kinda ignore others around them when they're focused on eachother. So being the brilliant alien she is, she grabs Arthur and they spend time alone a lot. Even Mystery picked up on that

They would talk for hours about random things, stars, mechanics, cars, pets. It was pretty soon when Arthur began opening up to Pancake. She felt...safe to him. They've known eachother for a few weeks at this point, (Pancake finding a small job at the bookstore and camps out at the motel.) Pancake also started feeling the same way. Heck at this point he invited her to his house upon occasion! For the first time she felt like she belonged.

One she feels she can trust Arthur with.

He talked about how he felt with Vivi and Lewis, how he lost his arm, the whole thing with Mystery, and even his family a bit. She told him about her friends, and how she grew up being isolated.

She told him she's not entirely human. He didn't get it at first. (She hides her antennae in a big beanie and tries to hide other alien features under baggy clothes)

He likes bringing her on paranormal trips, she likes having movie nights with him. (Cuz it's an excuse to cuddle)

It's obvious to others when they're crushing on each other. Arthur stares or talks about her nonstop, and Pancake has always got to be holding hands with him and trying to make him laugh. She also decorates his mechanical arm with stickers sometimes

During a ghost hunting trip, the ghost turned out to be a demon and tried to attack Arthur. Pancake, freaking out, shifted to her Terrorvant Form and blasted acid in its face. That's when Arthur fully understood, and Pancake panicked. Would he think of her the same? Would he shun her like everyone else?

He just stared at her in awe, before going in for a hug to thank her for saving his life. That's when she fully fell in love. (She no longer wore that beanie around him)

Their first kiss was at a drive in. During a horror movie. After that, Arthur quickly confessed that he had liked her for a while, as did she. They waited till the end of the movie to talk it out and begin dating.

Also Pancake is really strong, and she picks Arthur up often. Like over the shoulder or under the arm and off they goooooo

Assorted blog status-quo thoughts from work, part one:

In-universe, Keith's murder spree has been attributed to a 'copycat' of the child murders in Utah. He is very bitter about it.

Golden Freddy/Liam is the one who placed Puppet/Jamie's soul into an animatronic. He used too much power while doing so in his attempt to save his friend, and it took so much out of him that he was unable to manifest as anything more than an illusion for more than a decade.

All that extra power also gave Puppet/Jamie the ability to tie spirits to animatronics, which he used to 'save' Liam's two half-brothers and their two friends after Keith killed them inside the restaurant.

He also used too much energy, tying the spirits too tightly to the original four animatronics.

This left him with not enough energy to ‘save’ the next four children Keith killed at the next location, resulting in those souls being anchored too lightly, and not being able to properly control the animatronics they were in.

The original four anchored souls were the angriest, and had a very “with us or against us” attitude.

Once Puppet made it clear he didn’t support their killing spree in search of their own killer, the original four considered him ‘against them’.

Golden Freddy tried many times to save the unfortunate security guards hired over the years, but didn’t have enough power to manifest as more that a face in a camera or poster.

They built up a sort of friendship with night guard Belly Vella, and were devastated when he got caught, causing them to retreat to their suit and not be around when Houston briefly took up the shift.

Mystery Skulls Animated Headcanons (Part 2)

🏵 Cast

Lewis

His birthday is October 27th (Ghost MV’s release date). Allegedly he was born somewhere near Calcasieu River in Louisiana but he doesn’t know for sure.

He’s creole with his former surname being Dubec. While he tried to dig deeper Lewis has found very vague leads so while alive he just quit because to him his adoptive family is more important to him.

He not only is a skilled and self-taught vocalist and violinist but also knows plenty about other instruments.

When alive he barely if ever cursed at all unless for stressful situations. But as a ghost he loses that filter entirely and can’t go one moment without saying some variation of ‘fuck’.

Also as a ghost Lewis is alot more sardonic and quick tempered compared to when he was alive.

His deadbeats are paradoxically both an extension of Lewis’ subconscious and their own entities who form a symbiotic relationship with him as their ‘boss’ of sorts.

Arthur

His birthday is April 16th (Freaking Out MV’s release date) in Tempo. He barely knew his mom aside from her name ; Gwendolyn. And has a very astranged relationship with his father Pen.

Arthur’s full name is Arthur Pendragon Kingsmen XIII. He wholeheartedly believes that alone makes him prone to bad luck.

While he isn’t aware of it, Arthur has some level of clairvoyance. He didn’t like investigations because he was skeptical of any paranormal activity. He thought there was going to be a time when something really bad would happen.

Arthur has known Lewis a bit longer than he’s known Vivi. He’s known him since kindergarten while the two of them met Vivi early in middle school. When they started dating he didn’t know how to feel about it since he wanted to confess to him about how he felt but didn't work up the nerve to say it.

He has night terrors of that incident with the cave. Sometimes they end with a feral Mystery looming over him while others is an obscure silhouette of Reverb taunting him.

Vivi

She was born on October 13th (on a Friday no less and Hellbent’s Release Date) in Odessa to a stern and perfectionist anesthesiologist Dr. Aoi Yukino and yoga instructor Mimi Thomson Yukino. They moved to Tempo for work related reasons.

Vivi‘s been one of the best batters in Tempo High School’s softball team.

Her apartment has a room fashioned as a personal archive which consists of boxes of photographs, tape recordings and artifacts from prior investigations.

She runs a supernatural blog that used to be called ‘The Yukino Yuurei Archives’ before forming and rebranding the Mystery Skulls after getting Lewis and Arthur on board.

The reason she isn't as scared by paranormal activity is because it’s a special interest to her. One of her most prized possessions she has is a book on yokai given to her by Grandma Yukino as a birthday gift.

Mystery

He’s a kit between two kitsunes from rival clans ; Hikari and Kage. Both of them didn’t accept him into their fold. As a result, he mostly wandered and did as he pleased.

After his fight against Mushi and Shiromori’s sudden betrayal he formed a contract with the Yukino clan. For what reason I’m going to go into my fanon section in Part 3.

While Vivi’s memories where altered by Lewis's inexperienced and unconscious use of magic after his spectral spark was ignited, Arthur’s were mostly suppressed by Mystery who had more experience.

Mystery did have a humanoid form but has been out of practice with his invite shapeshifting abilities since his tails were cut.

He can telepathically talk but simply choses not to so he wouldn’t blow his cover.

While his spectral spark does not have a particular elemental affinity it’s very potent to the point it can have the potential to create new life (I.e. Shiromori.) What that is something I’ll cover in my fanon next post.

Headcanons

Vivi used to be in her highschool's newspaper club.

In physics and chemistry - which she liked much better than English classes - she learned how to conduct and report her experiments.

But Vivi needed practice researching. She hated English class - more so because of her teachers - but when her dreams solidified to research the supernatural, she realized from writing essays that she needed to practice by regular research and writing.

Vivi also realized that 'supernatural' is an incredible wide field and that she should specialize, but that's a different story.

So, she entered the newpaper club. She stayed for two years to hone her skills. She spent many hours in the library and on the internet, jotted down notes, compiled her resources, created ideas, rewrote her drafts several time. Even if she wouldn't make money (although she could use her skills in other fields), even if she wanted to destroy the concept of language itself sometimes - she persisted. She took this seriously.

Vivi loves a good mystery story - HEH - almost as much as a good horror story. Sometimes these two intertwine. She loves picking up clues, speculating what will happen next in the plot with the information she has.

A children's book gifted her by her obaa-san started her love. Vivi quickly devoured everything related to the topic that interested her, chief being the Detective Conan series.

It might or might not have inspired her interest to do her own investigations. Although she likes to joke that the titular Conan would scoff at the idea of ghosts, when he's a fictional character in an universe with clear magical elements. He's either not around them happening or refuses to acknowledge it. (Like his 'death curse' - regularly happening to be in places where murders happen.)
