Hello everyone! I am safely home from hospital and out of my drugged haze (somewhat 😂) Today I thought I’d join in with the #54321bookchallenge which I saw on the lovely Sarah’s page @babbageandsweetcorn Five 5 star ⭐️ reads I’ve enjoyed recently Devotion - Hannah Kent The One Hundred Years Of Lenni and Margot - Marianne Cronin Sorrow and Bliss - Meg Mason The Paper Palace - Miranda Cowley-Heller The Empire Of The Vampire - Jay Kristoff It’s interesting with this list, I could have picked five others so easily and originally, Sorrow and Bliss was a four star read but with time, it’s really grown on me! I’ve been so stressed out lately, and even my reading has started to reflect it... 😬 YOU ASKED FOR PERFECT is the best depiction of high school stress I’ve ever read, but it definitely gave me some flashbacks to my academic life (which might be making a resurgence in 2020...) 😬 I borrowed DARING GREATLY from my dear friend @stormandthesquat. But I’ve been putting off reading it because Brené’s words are too freaking real!! 😬 CHASING HILLARY was one I expected to like more than I actually did. #KavitaKane manages to design Surpanakha in her best of colors in #LankasPrincess With the completion of Lanka’s Princess I can proudly declare that I have accomplished a huge task, that is, reading all of @kavitakane ’s work. Starting from Karna’s Wife to Ahalya’s Awakening, after reading each of them from cover to cover, the thing that I can conclude is that Kane is not all about thrilling stories and plot twists and uncovering the hidden and forgotten stories of women who have left behind from the male sight in the Epics, the thing that makes her books magnanimously successful, is her thought to add opinions and to allow readers to penetrate well beyond the skin and delve into the mindspace and thoughts of the character and to understand her actions. For to paint a character grey is required in these times of monochromatic destruction and division, and to do that what one needs is thoughts and not a cacophony of decisions. Kavita Kane manages to design Surpanakha in her best of colors. If you are one who believes Surpanakha was not a victim and thinks that she was the evil, the actual monster as Kaikesi declared her, keep it up! But if you are one who supports Surpanakha and thinks that Ravana was just destroying her happiness and used her as a catalyst to his lust and power, and feel that in times of #MeToo her question and action are the most reliable and the most effective and important one, applauds guys! If the former… you don’t have to read it, certainly not, and do what you need to avoid being triggered. But, I suspect, you will want to. The sorority of survivors can be a lonely one. 》𝕋𝕖𝕞𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕒𝕣𝕪 𝔻ℕ𝔽 QOTD 》Do you have DNF reads that you plan to retry? Thus far, Lolita is my only permanent DNF. I’ve tried. On four separate occasions, at very different points in my timeline. I just cannot bring myself to read the entire thing through & I always end up laying the book flat during one specific car scene; the reason escapes me. Apart from this, I have a healthy stack of temporary DNFs that I hope will serve as a sufficient distraction during these wintry months of social withdrawal. I am eager to finish up Anna Karenina & move further into the meat of Montaigne. Ariosto might have to wait for a lighter mood, perhaps early spring. Then, I’m looking forward to researching essays & analyses on Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, which I’m about to finish. 🌿 Happy New Year’s Eve, book friends! 💬 Do you enjoy watching crime dramas or documentaries on @netflix? . Watching crime shows has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. I recently finished reading Murder Board by @brianchristophershea and it definitely made me ready to watch one again. This procedural crime novel was fantastic and reminded me of why I love this genre so much. If you’re a fan of James Patterson and Michael Connelly, you will love this one! . If you have a law enforcement officer in your life (spouse, sibling, friend, etc.) and you’d like to learn more about what they go through mentally and emotionally on the job, I’d recommend reading Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement by Kevin M. Gilmartin. How are you spending your Sunday? 🍁🍂 Hubs & I stayed up late after the babies went to bed last night for a mini at-home date night. We made a bunch of appetizers for a late dinner and watched a movie for the first time in about four months. I'm exhausted, since we didn't get to bed until about midnight, but it was also really nice to get some couple time in together. But since we're both so tired, it's a lazy Sunday for us. Other than some laundry, I think we're just gonna bum around the house. . . Even though it's fall now, the weather has turned sunny again here & it's going to be very warm this week.
