I think I’ve read the magnificent Tess Of The D’Urbervilles three or four times now? I never lose sight of how fantastic it is and I always find something new to appreciate. This time round, I re-read Tess as part of the #greatthomashardyreadalong2022 and it was an unforgettable experience, especially being able to discuss plot points in real time with like-minded readers. ⁣ ⁣ For anyone new to Hardy, this is one of my favourites and a perfect example of his style. It covers Tess Durbeyfield who is forced to seek acquaintance with the local, wealthy family of D’Urbervilles whom her father proposes they are related to. ⁣ ⁣ Loyal Tess is aware of her family’s impoverished circumstances and although embarrassed, does as her parents wish and meets Alec, the son of the family who changes her life forever. Later, she meets Angel Clare who seems like the answer to her prayers but Tess wrestles with unburdening her conscience and coming clean about her past or telling the truth and risking everything. ⁣ ⁣ Poor Tess really is a naive, sweetheart of a girl who pulls at your heart strings at one point and then maddens the reader with decisions she makes afterwards. However, she is such an angelic heroine, you can’t help but root for her, even though I couldn’t help but wonder if it was primarily pity that drove my emotions towards her. ⁣ ⁣ Yet there is a lot to love about Tess. She’s sweet, faithful, gentle and kind and considering how she is treated (by MANY of the characters in this novel), she manages to find the strength to carry on, even if it’s not going to lead her down the right path.⁣ ⁣ This is an emotional and heart-rending read from Hardy whom when writing this is at the top of his game. 👋 okay so a bit more about me... . 📚💗 my favourite genre in fiction is romance 💗🌈 I mainly read lgbtq stories (we had nothing for so long 😭 and now there are so many amazing books) . ⭐📚 my ABSOLUTE fav is Alexis Hall 😍 I love stories with truly living characters (does that make sense???) I just love how Hall does characters and also dialogue ahhh honestly every one of his books are beautiful but . 🌠Glitterland is particularly special to me 💗💗 The MC (Ash) has anxiety (story of my liiiife) and he is flawed but so relatable. And he falls in love with someone so different from his own surroundings, which is just EXACTLY what he needs. Day 13 : Favourite Book

Berbicara tentang buku yaaa..

Dari sekolah dasar, perpustakaan udah jadi tempat nongkrong favorit. Bukan karena gila baca dan kutu buku. Tapi emang suka ngadem aja di perpus. HAHAHAHA

soalnya dulu di gedung sekolah ku yang ber-AC tuh perpustakaan. Kalo ruang kelas cuma ada 4 kipas angin di kanan kiri ruangan.

Tapi meskipun bukan yang kutu buku banget, aku sering juga sih pinjem novel dan komik di perpus. Sampe penjaga perpustakaan SD - SMK tuh hafal aku, dan kadang dikasih privilege tersendiri (Ssst, diem diem aja ya)

Dulu kalo pinjem novel di perpus SD-SMK yang lain pinjem maksimal 2 buku, aku boleh 3 buku. Terus kalo misalnya tenggat harinya pengembalian buku udah lewat harusnya denda kan. Tapi aku enggak. HAHAHAHA

Kalo lagi kunjungin sekolah lama, pasti ke perpus buat ngunjungin Pak Sartun, Bu Niken, Bu Dwita, dan penjaga penjaga lainnya. Tapi kadang udah ganti personil sih. Agak sedih..

Sampe pernah ya nangis di perpus pas SD lupa karena apaaa. Tapi ketauan sama Pak Sartun dan beliau juga paham, ga yang nanya nanya godain atau apa.

Udah jadi rumah kedua tuh perpus SD hahaha.

Perpus SMP kurang begitu deket sama Ibu penjaganya, tapi tetep sering ngadem di perpus, dan maaf ya Ibu kalo akhirnya nyasar ke tumblrku, aku dulu sering makan cemilan sama temen-temen di perpus SMP sambil gibah dan membawa buku biar dikiranya lagi baca (pencitraan aja). Soalnya di perpus ga boleh makan dan minum, tapi kan ya gimana, bocil SMP kan lagi ngeyel-ngeyelnya, semakin dilarang semakin tertantang. Hahaha

Kalo perpus SMK, tempat favorit bangett. Ruangannya gede, jendela tengahnya mengarah ke lapangan. Dulu aku suka banget nongkrong di kursi yang menghadap ke lapangan, sekedar melihat orang yang kusuka atau lihat temen-temen yang ekskul Voli kalo hari Jumat. Kebetulan juga ekskul Jurnalistikku, tempatnya di perpus.

Perpus SMK juga jadi saksi sejarahku, putus dari pacar pertama karena diselingkuhin. hahaha agak lucu yaa. Di perpus SMK juga aku ketemu sama orang-orang baik dan lucu. Dulu nama penjaga perpusnya Bu Niken, trus ganti jadi Bu Dwita. Terus kayanya ganti lagi deh.

Di situ juga sering dapet privilege, bahkan perpus pernah udah tutup, tapi aku mau pinjem buku kan (fyi buku pelajaran yang mengharuskan harus kupinjem hari itu, bukan komik. di SMK ga ada komik....huft), dikasih dong kunci perpusnya ke aku. Udah sore banget padahal.

Sayang banget sama para penjaga perpus jamanku sekolah. Selalu bisa jadi tempat curhat tentang asmara, persekolahan, sampe hal receh juga, aku suka minta saran ke mereka. Ya gimana abisnya masih muda-muda, berasa curhat sama temen sekelas hahah (Ga deng, ini aku lebay. Maap hahaha) Sehat selalu Bapak dan Ibu!

Gapapa ya walaupun jauh dari judul challenge-nya, tapi kan masih 1 lingkup tuh buku sama perpustakaan. Hahaha

Hello everyone!! One of my goals is to read more non-fiction books and Chernobyl: History of a Tragedy by Serhii Plokhy was one that went straight to my favourites. I knew about the Chernobyl disaster and all that entailed from school but after watching the HBO documentary, I wanted to learn more about it. That is why I picked up this book and I devoured it. I couldn't put it down. It is full of information about the accident and what happened next and the author does a great job in assembling this information and presenting it in a comprehensive way. This is definitely not a light read. It is an engaging book and an excellent account of the catastrophe and its aftermath. I highly recommend it.
