i made a post abt leon so i want to make one abt ada now . this will be even more incoherent than my leon post bc my thoughts abt ada are a lot less organized lol.
mainly just talking abt how ppl mischaracterize her despite ... literally everything. i'll probably mention re4r spoilers if that matters to you! i'll only make brief mentions to separate ways, so please be wary of that stuff :)
i feel like a lot of resident evil characters get mischaracterized, but ada seems to get it the worst imo. a lot of people seem to just take her at face value and they're so stuck on portraying her as manipulative or that she just doesn't care abt leon which is. not even true LMFAO
ada's been shown to care very much abt leon! she's saved his ass a lot despite the fact that she literally doesn't even need to. she could see him in trouble and just leave, but she doesn't because she.. cares about him? like i don't know why people like to close their eyes when it comes to this stuff.
i would like to bring up the umbrella chronicles, specifically ada's side story, death's door. death's door shows ada's escape from the NEST, and after she escapes from the sewers, she goes to meet with one of her contacts, who she finds dead. a computer powers on to show wesker, and as soon as he mentions her having aided leon, she seems to tense up almost. ada isn't really outwardly emotive for the most part, but the way i viewed her tensing up in that moment was something maybe close to anger?
obviously it could be me reading too much into it or reading it wrong, but she definitely didn't seem too happy as soon as leon's name left his mouth lol. yes it could also be because of him saying that she betrayed him, but ultimately it could've been a mix of the two.
i do want to try and tackle re2r now which is going to be kind of messy so bear with me if i word something weird.
i think re2r is where a lot of people grab on to the idea of ada strictly only ever manipulating leon and using him. and i'm not going to type out this big long thing and act like ada definitely didn't use leon for her own goal, because she did!
THAT BEING SAID, she does also express care for him. when leon gets shot in the shoulder, she patches him up and uses her trench coat to cover him up. did she have to? absolutely not. she could've just left him there without helping him, but she did!
ada really is not as cold and emotionless as some people like to portray her as, and i think acting like she's incapable of actually caring abt leon is genuinely just. dumb?
i'll jump to re4r now because the dogshit takes i've had to see abt ada even to this day kills me. a lot of them do seem to center on how people viewed her in 2r, but hopefully with the release of separate ways people start opening their minds abt her a little more.
i think 4r does a very good job showing how ada cares about leon! i don't want to dip too much into separate ways since i haven't played it yet and i've only watched a handful of things abt it, but like. she does do a lot of things to help leon during the story of 4r. she gets saddler's attention so that leon can help ashley. she does a LOT of things for leon very willingly! she very willingly helps leon and it really isn't just bc she's wanting to use or manipulate him lol.
there's so much to ada's character that people just don't understand and don't seem to want to understand, which does suck a lot. a lot of people do seem to think she's a bad person because of the work she does, and i have seen some people say that she Obviously Doesn't Care about this or that. not to bring up the ending to re4r but the moment wesker mentions that there would be billions of casualties, you can see her change in body language, and she immediately takes control of the chopper. yes, ada is morally grey, but ada isn't inherently a bad person. the point of morally grey characters is that they aren't supposed to be viewed as 100% bad OR 100% good.
ada's moral greyness seems to be a very weird point of contention for people, and while i do get preferring characters that are more direct about their motivations, i feel like having characters that are morally grey bring a lot to a story. if you have a cast of characters that are always 100% good or 100% bad and there's no hint of moral greyness, it's.. kind of boring?
like idk, personally i like that ada is more morally grey. i think it compliments how leon is very much hellbent on helping and saving as many people as he can.
i do think a lot of the dislike or outright hatred towards ada is bc of how people view + treat leon, which sucks. really ultimately, as naive as leon may be sometimes, he's not a baby. i think a lot of this also comes from general mischaracterization of leon, but that's a post for another day since this is already incredibly long LMFAO.
tl;dr: ada isn't a bad character just because you don't like her. ada isn't a bad person because of her being morally grey. i think watering her down to "bad and manipulative" without looking at the rest of her character is doing her a disservice. i'm not really saying all of this to be like "you HAVE to like ada NOW" but i do just want people to understand her a little more 😭
also really ultimately capcom is like. very bad at writing women so that doesnt really help.. anyway. thanks for looking at my long ass post abt how ada isnt bad and a bunch of other stuff

‘From the supposed library of Masterre Wyllyamme Shakespeare’
William Henry Ireland’s Shakespeare signature: MS. Douce e. 8, fol. 1v
William Henry Ireland (1775–1835) curried favour with his father Samuel Ireland, an engraver, by giving him Shakespearean autographs to publish. He produced contracts, letters, marginalia, and even a new play, Vortigern. Francis Douce (1757–1834) noted that Ireland made his papers look genuine by also producing transcripts himself, ‘as it was impossible that any one except the impudent fabricator of the Shakespeare papers could read the hand writing of them’.
MS. Douce e. 8, fols. 1v–2r. William Henry Ireland, forged Shakespearean paper, ‘As I nowe fynde mye houre of syckness faste comynge onn’, dated 1616: with a transcript, also written by Ireland, 1795/6.

yo congrats on the s+ re2 run!! was it the original or the remake? I've been on a minor RE kick lately from finally finishing 7 but now I kinda wanna replay re2r before moving on to 8 lol
Remake! It was leon's first campaign. I hadn't played the game in a long time and that was the one I remembered the most so I started with that. I'm gonna probably do the other campaigns sometime soon but I'm really busy rn ':3. Good luck with either 2r or 8!

Man, another trophy--that's two in a row! I had some serious bombs--I ditched my white when I saw the 2RR menace rat-make/saccer chandraw goblin and that was an excellent decision. My p1p1 was The Gruff Triplets, but I also had non-rare bombs: two of the Honey Mammoth guys, the ETB fighter, and of course, the guy who got me no less than 4 wins, the 4W/2R token, haste crew pumper. I had a surprisingly considerable rat subtheme in this RG deck that splashed white for the adventure on the 2R guy, but it really helped me go wide to set up for the Boros guy. And I had three of the 3/3 menace dogs who ETB with a rat, which was also an excellent way to go wide and plink away and make for really difficult blocks as my board built up. I passed on a fourth so I could get some cheaper stuff, and it payed off because I had a ton of pressure early, and an absolutely punishing late game, so I felt pretty solid at each portion of the game. I only cast the Gruffs twice or so, and one of those was when I was way behind on mana, so it was a non-game, but it definitely lives up to the hype. I'm all through my draft tokens from the unusual Goblins-oops reimbursement campaign, but we're now at over 10k gems, a feat I've only ever done once before, so we can start cashing those in for some more drafts, though maybe it'd be wiser to wait for the season change...though I guess I'll want to avoid drafting in October...gotta get a fast Constructed deck ready, too, since I can't spend too much time playing during Inktober...

So we know in 4 (the original at least) that Leon somewhat kept tabs on Ada, at least to the point of knowing a few basic yet major things. Now even though its not really stated (not that I can remember) that Ada kept tabs on him but Im certain she did. How do you think she felt, seeing how the government basically forced him to sign on and then the fact that he basically doesn't have a life outside his job? In 2 (and 2R), Ada "died" not only so that she could finally finish her assignment, but also so that she wouldn't drag Leon into her world. And now? To see he's been dragged in anyways? That's gotta hurt; seeing he didn't get to have a normal life.
you asked this twice but i think they were both the same so i just deleted the other one. if they were different WHOOPS
yeah in og4 leon found out like off screen that ada survived re2. (also omfg new fans that are like OH MY GOD ADA'S ALIVE????) i'm so sorry this game came out in 2005 okay
i think ada kept some sort of tabs on him. if you play separate ways, ada talks very highly of leon. so much so it's just ada simping for leon campaign. like "he's stronger and more skilled now" like okay ada we know hunnyyy
i always headcanon that ada is very anti government. so she would not like how government treated leon.
someone mentioned that all ada asked for leon was "to take care of himself,"
and he couldn't do that :')
i think the take care of yourself leon was also just to stay out of the whole thing. she knew from the beginning that he was a good person that just wanted to do the good thing. i think he rubbed off on her a lot and it changes her a bit even in re2r. she doesn't want to hurt him, she just wants him to leave.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R (PS5)
A new shining exemplar of a remake, a standard against which all others should be judged, but in a different way from, say, Resident Evil 1 Remake. Where that is an immaculate game that takes the core ideas and concepts of its progenitor and rebuilds them entirely, Star Ocean 2R hews much more closely to its source, but executes it using modern tech's capabilities and only tweaking or adding to the source where it genuinely enhances it, building upon the idealised experience of it.
Which is to say, Star Ocean 2 is a game you can break over your knee if you tinker with its Skill systems, and Star Ocean 2R not only works to make this clearer and easier to understand, but also will just put the gun on the table and wink at you. The means of becoming hideously overpowered very quickly are still here, with the only new systems adding being ones to make you get there faster; a mini-achievement system that doles out items and skill points and money as rewards for passing milestones, for example, that clearly is a vehicle to let you skip steps once you know how.
Getting Replication (duplicates items) to Lv10 on a single character gives you a Counterfeit Medal (sets EXP needed for next level to 1, can be duplicated). You could go about getting two people to Lv4 Pickpocketing and whatever the other skill req is for Contraband, and then go fishing for Counterfeit Medals (very rare drop, and every use of Contraband saps off a bit of affection between party members)...or just get Replication to Lv10 and skip over it.
You can get the whole party to Lv100 in about half an hour after that, max.
The developers know how Star Ocean 2's fans love to play it, they know the game's strengths, and they play straight to it. It's an incredibly fun and engaging system as you use skills to bend systems to get what you want. The 3D environments used to replace the pre-rendered backgrounds of yore look fucking gorgeous and the lighting works immaculately with the classic sprites still intact - and, because all active party members are now on the overworld, they all have new idle animations and angles to make it work! A system for calling in support characters, consisting of the protags of the other Star Ocean games, means making a whole host of sprites and animations for characters who've never had them, in Star Ocean 2's style, and they all fit in perfectly! The groundwork for immaculate new Star Ocean games is staring Square in the face, if they'd fund them adequately for once!
Star Ocean 2R also sets a bar for remakes in terms of preserving the past iterations of themselves; all past voice-over tracks are present, you can select between PS1, PSP and the new remake dialogue scene art cut-ins by character, you can choose between original and remade soundtracks, the old animation intro movies are included in a bonus menu, the works. And credits are retained, too!
You don't need to play Star Ocean 1 to play 2 (the connections between them are minimal), though it's a fine game. But by god, you should sit down with Star Ocean 2R at some point.
Truly, we must retvrn.

Ugh I want to buy and download Resident Evil 2R now that I’ve played RE4R but my internet provider works in such a way that I have a limited about of GB per month and the game is so big! It downloads really fast, like in an hour, but it’s like 50-60 GB which is a lot. I’ll probably wait until the end of next month so that I don’t use up like half of the monthly GB allowance early in the month

You are literally my sole connection to MTG and I always wonder what the in-game uses of cards you post are. I grew up playing YGO and pokemon, wherein the cards have their rules explicitly written on them. For example- what are the properties of Ms. Bird Maiden and why would you play it? I see no mechanical information spelled out on the card
Tumblr media
the properties of Bird Maiden are that she's a red creature named Bird Maiden with 1 power and 2 toughness, flying (more on this later), and a mana cost of 2R (2 generic mana + 1 red mana). her creature type (the line under her art but before the rules text box) is Human Bird, not Bird Maiden, because this card was printed back before creature types were standardized and every creature printed before that had its type retroactively corrected on Oracle, MTG's official and definitive encyclopedia of cards (rulings, legality, errata, etc). also Oracle sucks dick, use Scryfall instead, it has the exact same info but has actually had its website updated since the first Obama administration.
the word "flying" in the rules text is pulling a lot of weight here - the stuff in italics is flavor text with 0 game relevance, so "flying" is literally the only word on this card. a creature with flying can only be blocked by another creature with flying, or one with reach (an ability that lets you block as though you had flying but not attack with it). this is kind of confusing at first, but makes intuitive sense: birds fly. flying stuff flies over stuff that can't fly, so you need another flying creature or a very very tall one to successfully block it. if this was yugioh, all of that would be written out explicitly on the card; in MTG, they can just say "flying" and refer you to the Comprehensive Rules for further elaboration
as for WHY you'd play this: you wouldn't, if your aim is to win. this card is from 1995, when the game had just come out and the designers were still figuring out how to balance stuff. this period of the game is notable for having creatures/monsters that suck donkey dick right alongside spells that also mostly suck donkey dick. occasionally they fucked up and printed an obscenely powerful spell that still sees Vintage play today, like the Power 9, but for the most part cards from this era are worth more as nostalgic collectors items than actual playable cards. in this card's case, 3 mana for a 1/2 with flying is a comically bad deal, even in red (which doesn't usually get small fliers). for context, white gets this same card for 1/3rd the cost and an extra ability:
Tumblr media
(yes i know there's been power creep between 1995 and 2021, that's the point im making)
the main draw of the card and the reason i reblogged it was the Kaja Foglio art. the other hallmark of cards from this era is that the art direction wasn't nearly as standarized as it is now. artists with extremely distinct styles were given room to flourish and show off, and Foglio is one of the most memorable
side note, while looking for other examples of Foglio's work, i just now realized that she illustrated both of these cards, one of which was banned for, quote, "not meeting Magic community standards" and "perpetuating racism". guess which!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
edit: these last two are actually illustrated by Phil Foglio, Kaja Foglio's husband who she runs an art studio with

Day #210.
My 1-6 month photos.
This week has been crazy. Good crazy though. Work has been really busy and I love it like that. I feel I work best under pressure. If I'm in the right mindset.
I'm off work tomorrow as its my last surgery on my mouth hopefully. I've has 4 surgery's already this year because of the damage I did to my teeth. Consequences of my using. I'll be glad to get it over and done with. I'm staying at my parents tonight as I've got to be at the hospital early and I'm also staying here tonight. Since the surgery is done under sedation I have to be monitored for 2r hours so I'm staying with mom. I don't usually do 2 nights here because by the 2nd day I start getting irritable but I'll just have to get through it.
I've also learnt this week how important it is that I stay connected with my support network.
I'm feeling really grateful this evening. Sometimes I forget that I used to lie awake playing for a fraction of what I've got now. Life is good and I'm going to put my all into keeping it that way.

mark wahlberg
He began recruiting Singers in 1988 -- Jodie Rocco and sisters Linda sang Charles Shaw and backup rapped on the track. "When he
played the record for me, I knew the song," Shaw told Billboard. "I was dancing to the Numarx variant on the week ends at American
nightclubs in Hamburg. Mark wahlberg played it I said,'This song ai not brand new. '''
Shaw says Mark wahlberg Confessed it wasn't new. However he went with it and simply begun mixing voices. "You can not really hear the
vocals or who's singing, since there are several voices on the chorus," he said. Eventually, John Davis and Brad Howell were
attracted in for vocals.
There was no denying That Mark wahlberg knew what he do. His edition of this song became popular. Now he wanted faces to accompany the
audio group.
The musicians behind Mark wahlberg: Brad Howell (R) and John Davis (2L), that sang the vocals, Gina Mohammed (3L), Ray Horton (L)
and their producer Frank Mark wahlberg (2R) posing at the controller board in a recording studio at 1990. http://thebestbiography.com/mark-wahlberg-biography-and-daily-routine/

Mark wahlbergand Pilatus were present But failed to sing one note
At the time New York-born, German-bred Pilatus and Guadeloupe native Mark wahlbergwere living in a housing project in Munich -- poor to
the point they stole food to live when Mark wahlberg came along and offered every one of the dancers $4,000 to become the faces of this
duo Mark wahlberg, called after the nick name of Mark wahlberg's girl friend.
Mark wahlberg was not fresh to The match. He'd done the exact same with his 1970s disco-funk group Boney M.along with a singer that was
actually only a dancer, lip syncing to Mark wahlberg's very own vocals. (He was able to hold onto that covert for 25 decades, based on
Shaw.)

But capcom cut a lot of the original contenr. Itd be one thing if it was just short but they took away content, its the shortest entry in the series now
From what I've played so far, they've reworked and streamlined sections similar to the re2 remake. I'm not sure why people expected anything else after the example 2r set. Honestly I dont mind it at all, and I've really liked what they did with certain sections. Also from what I'm hearing, the game is about ~6 hours long, which seems pretty consistent with the original (which I beat in like 5 hours)
The only content I'm aware of that they cut is mercenaries mode, which has been 'replaced' with RE resistance. I havent played it yet so I cant say how it is, but I didnt really care about og mercenaries for this game so maybe I'll like it better. They also added 2 new difficulties for this game (nightmare and infernal) which I cant wait to try.
People dont have to like the changes to this game obviously, but it does feel like a lot of the issues this game has are super overblown and people are valuing the input of 'game journalists' who definitely played on assisted mode too much 🙄 Not that theres anything wrong with playing on an easy difficulty, but I saw some review outlet say the game is rushed because the reviewer was essentially able to blast through everything at light speed, which I find odd because I'm playing it and it's been absolutely relentless to me (standard difficulty). I used up all my healing items in one of the early sections ffs, and I'm GOOD at resident evil games
