Nothing Stays The Same - Ana-Maria Crnogorčević x Reader
A/n: This was a request. It gets a little spicy but there's also a twist and some chaos here... so this fic is not what you think it is from the title.
///
You were eighteen when you moved to Frankfurt, a budding forward for 1. FFC Frankfurt and a first year undergraduate at the university, studying sport science. It hadn’t taken you a long time to develop a rapport with the staff, but the friendships with your teammates were a lot more interesting. Your first three years at FFC Frankfurt, you were teased for what was brushed off as a puppy love crush on Ana. It was something that she became aware of, but would just softly smile at you, rolling her eyes at your teasing teammates because you were young and needed to focus on your studying when you weren’t playing football.
You were twenty-one when Ana left FFC Frankfurt for the US, joining the Portland Thorns and the NWSL. The same season that ended with Ana leaving, a new transfer from playing college football in the US arrived, who eventually became your best friend. Laura Freigang.
Laura ended up being there for you through everything, going with you to your graduation and comforting you after your relationship went up in flames, not letting your ex ruin as much as she could have, but some things were still ruined for you.
Leaving what was now called Eintracht Frankfurt after the 2019/20 season, you left your fellow chaotic forward, and Germany, behind. Barcelona Femeni had decided they wanted to sign you for the next season due to injuries and transfers in their current squad. You were twenty-three when you arrived in Barcelona.
Your Spanish was, well, you weren’t as confident with it as you were with German or English, but you knew from looking at the Barcelona roster that you wouldn't be stuck struggling without any help. One thing you didn’t expect however, was to end up on a team with Ana again, the familiar nerves you thought had disappeared years ago cropping back up at the realisation you’d see her again.
However, you were not the same lovestruck eighteen year old crushing on someone older than you, anymore. The years at Frankfurt after Ana left had become powerful years for your development as a player, and as a person. Laura knew this, especially since she had helped you with everything to do with your ex, and as your chaotic best friend, loved to tease you about the idea of you and a Spanish girl instead of the Swiss player who was seven years your elder, and had moved on from your puppy love crush to date someone else.
Ana wasn’t sure how she felt when your transfer had been announced, her first thoughts going to her time at FFC Frankfurt, before reflecting on your skills as a forward… then remembering your little puppy crush on her, and how you’d stammer over your words, get flustered so easily and do whatever she asked you to. It was sweet, but that was all it was.
So when the other girls began to research you, finding your socials, she did the same, scrolling far back enough that she found your graduation photos with another player who was at FFC Frankfurt, arriving in 2018, Laura Freigang. She didn’t expect to hear her ex voicing the same thoughts that she was having.
“Are they dating Laura Freigang?”
Mapi’s question floored her, but she, like the other girls, had no answer. She was not even sure if you knew Spanish, but as she began to scroll up from after she left in 2018 to now, in 2020, Ana discovered she didn’t really know that much about you after losing contact.
You didn’t reach out to Ana upon your arrival to Barcelona, only making contact with her when she approached you talking to Caro, testing Caro’s German since she had spent five years at Wolfsburg before coming to Barcelona last season, the same season as Ana did.
“Na, kannst du noch Deutsch oder hast du schon alles wieder verlernt?” you teased, asking Caro if she still could speak German or if she had forgotten it already, having made a beeline for one of the players you knew could understand you, since your Spanish was very much lacking.
Catching Ana looking at you, you shot her a small smile before continuing to talk to Caro until the meeting began. You could feel more than one set of eyes on you as you spotted one of the Spanish defenders, María León looking at you, sending her an amused smirk/smile before trying to listen to the meeting again, grateful that Caro translated the important bits for you.
Heading out onto the pitch for the first training session, you’d already been in once before preseason, working with the staff to show what rate you were already at, but you immediately stayed close to Caro, until Ana walked over.
“Hey, wir werden heute zusammen trainieren, wir dachten uns, dass es vielleicht hilft, weil wir ja schon mal zusammen gespielt haben?” Ana explained, teaming up with you for the training drills since you both were forwards and knew each other from Frankfurt. You nodded as you headed off with Ana, smiling softly as she translated the instructions of the drills for you, before she turned to you with a smile.
“Dann zeig mal, was du alles so gelernt hast, seitdem ich gegangen bin.” Ana sassed, raising an eyebrow as she passed the ball to you.
The training drills had been fine until the attackers had to team up with the defenders, separating you from anyone else who spoke German in the process. Mapi raised an eyebrow at the confused look on your face at what Leila was trying to say, her Spanish going way over your head as you tried to pick out any words you knew, even glancing around at everyone else doing the drills to get an idea of what to do.
“Okay, um… I seriously need to find a Spanish teacher or something… Lo siento Leila!” you grumbled as you wiped at your forehead, feeling yourself starting to perspire in the heat.
“I can teach you, cariño?” Mapi offered, walking over to try to explain the drill to you, since Leila was still struggling.
“Danke schön, María!” you smiled, biting your lip as Mapi asked you to call her Mapi instead, about to explain the drill until Caro walked over, Mapi was taking too long so she explained it in German for you.
It was as Caro was walking away with Mapi that you called out to her, “Hey, ist es immer so heiß?” asking if it was always so hot, but the laughter from Caro suggested that it always was, making training a bit more interesting as all the girls were sparkling with sweat, and you were just about dying. No doubt it would amuse Laura when you called her later.
You had sparked intrigue in Mapi from the moment your transfer was announced, she knew she wanted to get to know you as more than just a teammate from watching you during training, but she waited until she finally had her chance, when the team went out to a club the night before a day-off during pre-season training.
Mapi approached you after having spotted you sitting in the booth on your own, the rest of the team having spread out across the dance floor. Instead, you were sitting there in the booth on your phone, texting who Mapi realised after a glance, was the player she wanted to ask you about.
“So, what is the deal with you and Laura Freigang?” Mapi asked, leaning forwards slightly so you could hear her better over the music, raising an eyebrow as you leaned in with a smirk.
“What do you think the deal is?”
“Only friends, I hope.” Mapi’s confidence wavered for a moment, but you smiled instead, remembering Laura’s teasing about you and a Spanish girl, even if it wasn’t meant to last.
“Then, you hoped correctly, contrary to what a lot of people think, Laura is my best friend.” You replied, assuring the Spaniard as she smiled, the confidence in her eyes amusing you as it reappeared.
“That is very nice to know.”
“Is it now?” raising an eyebrow, your head tilted to the side slightly as you questioned Mapi, but she smirked, leaning back slightly but her arm rested on the table.
“It really is.” Mapi hummed appreciatively, giving you a nowhere near subtle once over as you laughed slightly.
“You are not a fan of subtlety, I take it?”
“Now when I like what I see.” Mapi flirted, leaning in slightly again so you could hear her more clearly, thinking she was making you flustered.
“Well, I like what I see too.” Looking the Spaniard up and down, you ignored the feeling of eyes burning into the side of your head, no doubt that whoever it was, was watching you and Mapi interact.
“That is good, do you want another drink?” Mapi enquired, raising an eyebrow as you bit your lip for a moment. The Spaniard was clearly unaware that the two of you were being watched.
“Do you know if they do passionfruit martinis?” you asked, chewing your lip as Mapi nodded to herself.
“Let me find out for you.” She affirmed, getting up to head to the bar. Your gaze followed Mapi walking away as you called out “gracias!” the energy shifting as you met the gaze of who had been watching you and Mapi. A frowning Ana, who was supposed to be dancing with Jenni.
Jenni hadn’t realised the power behind her words as she pointed out that you must have been Mapi’s next target, admitting that you and Mapi seemed to be getting cosy as you didn’t back down or fluster at Mapi’s flirting. Jenni’s laughter stopped however when Ana failed to even smile, instead, a sour look overtook her face.
“You look like you sucked a lime, but we have not done body shots!” Jenni pointed out, watching as you got up from the booth to meet Mapi at the bar, who was having a rather long conversation with the bartender.
“Maybe we should do some then.” Ana didn’t think about what she was saying until it was late, just wanting you and Mapi off of her mind, but Jenni was already heading towards the bar.
“Hey, I think it’s also called a pornstar martini, but if they don’t do them-”
It took that name, plus the bartender googling the recipe for some reason, for the drink you asked for to be given to you.
“I was going to say, if they don’t do this, see if they can make an old fashioned.” you explained, raising an eyebrow as Mapi’s hand rested on your lower back, protecting you from whoever was barging past.
“Gracias… do you want to try it?” you asked, holding one of the paper straws out to Mapi, who nodded and tried the drink, her face burning slightly as you chuckled at the look on her face.
“Too sweet? No worries, I’m sure you are sweet enough without it.” You smirked, ignoring the look on Mapi’s face by drinking your martini, not hearing Mapi order an old fashioned next.
Jenni grinned as she ended up sliding in on the other side of you, ordering the tequila shots and lime wedges then stealing a couple of salt shakers.
“You two, body shots?” Jenni asked, gesturing to the salt shaker as the bartender passed Mapi the old fashioned, starting to pour the tequila into shot glasses.
Your nose crinkled up as you shook your head, “sorry, my ex ruined tequila for me,” having finished the passionfruit martini, Mapi passed the glass of old fashioned next, staring as you extracted the cherry and popped it into your mouth. Maintaining eye contact with the defender, Jenni smirked, a mischievous glint in her eye that Ana could recognise from across the club.
Jenni watched as you offered Mapi a sip of the old fashioned, how you had to remind her this drink had no straw, so she needed to hold the glass herself, seeing how Mapi fumbled slightly as your fingers touched hers.
“Better than the passion fruit martini?” you teased, noticing how Mapi hadn’t grimaced at this drink, but the contrast in your tastes intrigued her even more.
“How did your ex ruin tequila for you?” Jenni’s question interrupted the intense eye-contact that you and Mapi were sharing, raising an eyebrow as you went to eat the orange slice in the drink.
“We drank it a lot.”
“And now it reminds you of her?” Jenni tilted her head to the side, not seeing the tray of tequila shots and the lime wedges being passed to her until you gently nudged it so it wouldn’t fall on the floor.
“Safe to say that I do not want that.” Shrugging it off, you sipped your old fashioned, raising an eyebrow at the look on Mapi’s face.
“But tequila is fine when you are not the one drinking it?” Jenni asked, going to pass Mapi one of the tequila shots, a lime wedge, and the salt shaker.
“As long as I can’t taste it on your lips, but the lime and salt overpowers it.” You replied casually, not seeing the grin on Jenni’s face, or how Mapi was becoming the flustered one.
Jenni nodded, grinning as she picked up the tray, and another salt shaker, heading over to where the rest of the team were congregating.
“So… I’ll take that… but you have to figure out what you’re doing with the salt.” You smirked, taking the lime wedge to slip into your mouth, whilst Mapi picked up the salt shaker, glancing from it, to you.
Ana directed her gaze away, turning on her heel to head towards one of the doors, the bathroom or outside, it didn’t matter, she couldn’t watch Mapi do a body shot off of you any longer, the cacophony of thoughts in her head overwhelming and confusing her.
The only thing she could figure out from watching you and Mapi flirt was that you were not the shy human she’d met five years ago, but a much more confident chaotic being, who had no problem flirting, even if it had to be with her ex, of all people.
She had tried brushing it off as protectiveness as her ex pursued you, but she herself wanted to know more about you and who you had become after she left FFC Frankfurt. Maybe she hoped that you would come to check on her, but that was selfish, your puppy love crush had clearly evaporated, even as she heard the door open, revealing a concerned Jenni instead.
You may have loved her five years ago, but you were not the same person you were then, that you were now, and you shamelessly flirting with Mapi proved it.

I was pointed in your direction as a person to ask for this. Do you know if there is anywhere to watch the games Sonnett played in Sweden?
you did come to the right place!
here is a playlist of all 11 games that sonnett played in from the second half of goteborg's 2020 season. there's one swedish cup game vs jitex that has swedish commentary and also was, i assume, recorded on a toaster by the local newspaper. there's also one league game vs kristianstads that loses sound almost immediately. but the rest of the games are just field noise and player chatter. goteborg were very dominant in most games (and if you like sonnett, this ridiculous game is on the playlist) and win the league in the 2nd to last game, so that's fun.
there's a bunch of players on this team that now play in bigger leagues that might be fun to watch if you like their new teams: stina blackstenius (arsenal), rebecka blomqvist (wolfsburg), emma koivisto (liverpool), natalia kuikka (portland thorns), julia zigiotti olme + emma kullberg (brighton), filippa angeldal (man city), vilde bøe risa (man united), and julia roddar (2021/2022 washington spirit my beloved). there's some nwsl cameos on opponent teams as well - off the top of my head i remember lauren barnes, ali riley, and hailie mace.

No bc I love women and football tell me all the gossip with mccabe and foord and the ex (who is she) ☕️
alright this is going to be long im sorry but get me started on woso and i just blabber. uhh most of my sources cited but this is mostly me going back thru texts from during the world cup and grabbing facts/pictures from then so a few of these claims are a little
Tumblr media
BUT i promise i didnt make this up LOL i was Deep in google for the entirety of the world cup so i Know i got my info from somewhere
everything else under the cut bc this got SO long im actually so sorry
there's three primary people involved here:
katie mccabe: left back (but honestly left everything wonder woman). captains the irish national team. plays for WSL's arsenal, has been since 2015 (minus a lil bit loaned to glasgow in 2017). those are the two important facts here really but the below is ~flavor~.
she's 28 and 5'5 and she's a DREAM. scored an olimpico at the world cup (FIRST IN WOMENS WORLD CUP HISTORY!!!!) (THATS WHERE YOU SCORE A GOAL DIRECTLY FROM A CORNER. FIRST ONE SINCE THE 60S IN A WORLD CUP IN GENERAL!! LITERALLY INSANITY!!!)
also for context this world cup was ireland's wnt's first ever major tournament appearance. she's the first ever irish goal-scorer (of men and women!). she's amazing. here's her for arsenal:
Tumblr media
ruesha littlejohn: striker/midfielder. scottish-irish, but represents ireland at the senior level. 33 years old. has played for a lot of teams club-wise. currently plays for london city lionesses, a second tier team, but that wasnt announced til after the world cup. her most recent wsl team was aston villa (but i mean it, she's played like everywhere lol). 5'6 if you're curious.
here's her in ireland's kit:
Tumblr media
caitlin foord: forward! plays for australia internationally, and arsenal (so teammates with katie. this is important.) she's played for arsenal since 2020! used to play for the thorns in the nwsl once upon a time. 5'7, if, again, you're curious. she used to date a swiss footballer (lia walti, who's played for arsenal since 2018) but they broke up like six months before the world cup. walti unfollows the australian team on instragram right after they post a video of foord, it's all very dramatic (THEYRE STILL TEAMMATES AT ARSENAL THIS WHOLE TIME BTW). arsenal man, always at the scene of the crime.
Tumblr media
ok so now you've met our main players!!
world cup happened this past summer (2023), btw. to give you an idea of timing.
katie mccabe and ruesha littlejohn dated for 6-7 years (some articles say 6, some say 7). they came out in june 2019 and said they'd been dating for three years already. their breakup was confirmed right before the world cup (like THE SAME WEEK??), in an article where mccabe was like "yeah, ruesha, my partner at the time..." very casual.
and then. in JUNE. (world cup starts july 20th!!)
foord and mccabe go to ibiza w an ex-arsenal player (jordan nobbs). who (in june 2023, not anymore) played at aston villa with. you guessed it. littlejohn. so yeah your ex gf goes on a trip to ibiza w a new girl and your current teammate, you might be a lil pissed off. maybe.
the sun's (i know, BOOOO but this made me laugh so hard) caption on a pic from the trip had me cackling:
Tumblr media
(the title of the article was "inside the glam lifestyle of pals caitlin foord and katie mccabe after ireland’s star’s ex snubs world cup handshake." borderline galpals commentary like have writers there never heard of regular synonyms for friends?? there was also a line that just screamed please don't sue us: "However, The Sun does not suggest the Aussie forward had anything to do with McCabe and Littlejohn's break-up.")
so now we've got two exes on the irish national team going into their first world cup appearance, the captain of the swiss national team and an australian player having broken up like six months ago, and much more, but that isn't directly related to This Specifically.
while you, anon, presumably know how the world cup works, ill give a mini explainer for anyone lost: there's the group stage, where the teams get divided into groups (in this case, of four), and your team plays every other team in the group. you get three points for winning a game, one for a draw, and none for a loss. those points add up and top two teams move on. and then you go into the knockout stage, where you have to win to advance, and if you keep winning you make it to the final yay!!
but for this we only care about the group stage. and more specifically, about group B.
group B is made up of nigeria, canada, australia, and (drumroll please) ireland!!! it is the stuff reality tv shows WISH they could make happen.
ireland and australia play. it is (almost*) the very first game of the tournament (but it's still on july 20th). it is at 5am my time. you would not believe the timezone fuckery i went through that month.
(*ok new zealand played norway starting a bit earlier on the same day but that's not as dramatic sounding)
and you know how they shake hands with the other team before a game? yeah well here's littlejohn apparently refusing to shake foord's hand:
Tumblr media
here's a lovely photo of a Look from littlejohn to mccabe:
Tumblr media
here's a diff irish player (sullivan) separating littlejohn and foord after the game (australia wins 1-0, btw.):
Tumblr media
and i already shared this on @powerful-owl's post BUT. here's mccabe's little sister, supporting mccabe. please note the date (july 20th) and the comment from foord (from after the game, im like 99.99% sure) asking if she wants her jersey now. me personally if i just beat my totally platonic friend/teammate on the world's stage i wouldnt be pulling up in their sister's comments asking if she wants a jersey now (also implication of the word now as in previously discussed, etc etc. this was the thing that pushed me over the edge into insanity at like 9am after no sleep)
Tumblr media
i admittedly have not kept up to date on anything that's gone down since the world cup so it's entirely possible more has happened! in fact i would say that it is downright likely lol. i love soccer lesbians n the insane charts necessary to keep track of their relationships <3

https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/nwsl-announces-2023-season-schedule-footprint
The CBA and NWSL rules allow teams flexibility to hold a 6-8 week preseason camp opening as early as January 23 but no later than February 6 ahead of the 2023 regular season kickoff on Saturday, March 25, followed by the commencement of the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup in April.
For the first time since its inception in 2020, the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup will now run concurrently with the regular season. Consisting of a six-week tournament from April to September, the Cup will feature three groups of four teams playing double round-robin matches for a total of six contests. Following group play, four teams will square off in semifinal matches on Wednesday, September 6 ahead of the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup Final on Saturday, September 9. The 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup will also be the first-ever women’s professional soccer tournament to achieve pay equity with its U.S. peers in the men’s game. This is the result of the historic partnership between NWSL and UKG, a leading provider of HR, payroll, and workforce management solutions for all people.

You hate human rights if you want an NWSL team in Atlanta.
Writing off Georgia as “just another southern state” when without Fulton County (the county Atlanta is in) and surrounding Cobb and DeKalb County voting FOUR times since November of 2020, your precious political party wouldn’t have a Senate majority OR a Presidency.
Get off my fucking blog, ignorant ass.

I’m enjoying the chat that the PWHL is getting, and that NWSL has gotten, but at the same time I can’t help but compare it to the way the W is discussed, and why the difference? Is it because the WNBA has been around for longer and more continuously, so hasn’t had the reset that the other women’s leagues have had? Is it because soccer and hockey in other forms aren’t as popular as basketball? Is it because the players are predominantly black and masc and gay? Is it because it’s not wholly independent of the male pro league counterpart? Is my perception clouded because people online have irrational hatred of the W? Is it all of the above? It seriously would make for an interesting thesis or something. I’m happy that other women’s sports are having success but seeing the wnba be constantly shat upon is always going to be disheartening because I love watching it, not for any altruistic reason but because the play is intense and gritty. But trying to tell people about it falls on deaf ears
NWSL and PWHL have some kind of viral internet power that the WNBA doesn't have. I've been trying to figure out why for a very long time.
A lot of soccer fans told me it was the 2019 world cup that made NWSL viral. Megan Rapinoe was America's hero against the Trump supervillain.
Okay. Haven't WNBA players done a dozen things like that? Don't people remember the 2020 bubble season when the WNBA helped Democrats win power over the Senate? Don't people remember the name Brittney Griner? Where's our viral internet following? Why is there still 200 NWSL blogs for every 1 WNBA blog?
Trolls say the same things about our female basketball stars as they say about Megan Rapinoe. But this only seemed to strengthen Rapinoe's internet fanbase. It made her a hero. But when our basketball players get the same treatment from trolls, there's no corresponding army of fans.
I can understand why male trolls hate women's basketball. But I don't understand why women are indifferent about the WNBA.
The viral power of female obsessive internet fanbases is what holds up half the global entertainment industry. TV shows. The Swiftie phenomenon. NWSL. Even crusty twitch streamers and youtubers get love from tumblrinas. There are huge tumblr fandoms for that stuff. I think it's a big deal for any entertainment product to get that female obsessive internet fanbase power. And that buzz just doesn't exist for the WNBA. The internet fandom girls are apathetic about the WNBA.
Why? What feeds these fandoms? What is the WNBA missing? Is it really just too black and gay? Drag Race is black and gay and everyone loves it. Then people peek through the windows of the WNBA world but they don't come inside.

okay so now i know you’re canadian! who should i be looking out for at the wc? obviously will be seated for jayde rivière but who else?
dude i’ll be so honest, i followed the women’s team back around 2018/19 and 2020 but after the pandemic i totally fell off all sports (including my beloved nba) for a solid 2-3 years! I’m just getting back into it 😅
that in mind, i’m really interested to see how well Huitema plays since she’s bounced around from europe to the NWSL now! Plus ofc with fleming captaining once in a while i think it’s going to be quite interesting!
overall tho, i’m just excited to see how the whole teams going to play just bc we have been somewhat dominant over the past few years but obviously things have very much changed since as well!
but yea, sorry but i’m not the best person to ask 😭

U.S. women’s national team defender and captain Becky Sauerbrunn will not be on the team’s 2023 Women’s World Cup roster, according to multiple sources briefed on the decision. The sources were granted anonymity as they were not allowed to comment publicly on the USWNT roster, planned to be announced next week, or Sauerbrunn’s exclusion.
Players were informed of their roster status on Thursday. A U.S. Soccer spokesperson declined to comment.
Sauerbrunn is still rehabbing an April foot injury that kept her out of action for her NWSL club side, Portland Thorns, for most of May. She made a return as a second-half substitute in their June 3 game against OL Reign, then did not appear in their June 11 game against the Orlando Pride. Before that game, Sauerbrunn had been listed as questionable in the league’s availability report.
Sauerbrunn, 38, has won two previous World Cups with the USWNT, one in 2019, and one in 2015. She is also a 2012 Olympic gold medalist and a 2020 Olympic bronze medalist. She has made 216 appearances for the USWNT.
Separately, sources confirmed the World Cup roster status of three other players: goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, midfielder Savannah DeMelo, and defender Kelley O’Hara will be on the roster.
O’Hara’s inclusion on the backline assures the team will have a veteran presence that could help replace Sauerbrunn’s presence in the locker room. O’Hara, 34, had missed multiple camps through the end of 2022 into the start of 2023 while dealing with a lingering hip injury, making her return to the USWNT environment with her call-up for the April friendlies against Ireland.
DeMelo’s addition is perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the roster, given USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski’s midfield experiments with numerous other players, including San Diego Wave’s Taylor Kornieck. DeMelo has been solid with Racing Louisville and could bring some depth in a box-to-box role, and is a player who works hard on both sides of the ball, can drift wider as needed, and is good at reading the play and creating chances.
Kingsbury is another slightly surprising inclusion, almost certainly at the expense of AD Franch as the team’s third-string goalkeeper, with Alyssa Naeher and Casey Murphy having been locked in to their respective roles over much of the World Cup lead-in. Kingsbury isn’t a stranger to the USWNT senior team, but only has one appearance for the team — a clean sheet earned in a 9-0 win over Uzbekistan in April 2022.

For someone that’s slowly and dumbly trying to get into women’s football when/what are the different kinds of breaks? Like when don’t they play? International break does all games stop or not?
Hey anon, you really saw all this happening yesterday and was like, oh boy those people seem like a fun bunch to join? Oh well, you have the right mentality for football i guess 🤷
So in football there are multiple breaks but it depends on the league you follow when they are. In most European leagues the season runs from september to may with a summer (june/july/part of august) and winter (part of december/part of january) break. During summer break there will be a Euro's (2022) world cup (2023) or Olympics (2024) in which you can still watch football, normally there is one year without major tournament in a 4 year cycle.
During the season there are Fifa breaks (also called international breaks), these are set periods of usually 1-2 weeks in which national teams play and all leagues are paused. Major tournaments also take place during an international break, but those are obviously longer. You can find all the scheduled international breaks 2020-2023 in this document https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/add7387945214a47/original/wcuchsbbdhsatd7udsg5-pdf.pdf
*If you follow the NWSL you may want to just not look this shit up because they go by vibes, not schedules. The uswnt will schedule their own international breaks and also not pause the league during international breaks. It's weird and doesn't make sense but they do it anyway.

Im very new to preath. What did Louisville do to them? Like they weren't waiving them to play for other teams or something. And why didn't they (tc) wanna play in that team. (Aside from the fact that its a sucky team)
To make a very long saga shorter, Louisville took both t/c in the 2020 (COVID lock down year) expansion draft. At the time both we’re playing for Man U. Lou 1st games were gonna be in 2021. Lou’s coach had coached in the US women’s league before and had a terrible reputation amongst the players of the teams he previously coached. He had even married one of his players causing a toxic environment at that club. By the time he was at Lou he made it clear that t/c didn’t want to play there and that entire fan base were vicious in their social media posts about how awful and conceited and assholes t/c were and just hated on these 2 women for not wanting to come there. Then out of nowhere this asshole coach got fired. Well turns out we learn that he sexually harassed and ultimately even assaulted one of the Lou players. This all came out in the report of US Soccer and the NWSL report about abuses in the league over a 10 year period. So all this time that fan base just crapped all over t/c when it turns out they knew that coach was a piece of shit and had no intention of playing there with this guy. The other issue is that Lou still held their rights and were just assholes to ACFC who were trying to buy CP’s rights so she could play for ACFC in their first year. They ended up paying so much for her rights and gave up draft picks that it really hurt their forming of the roster last year. Then…Lou still held Tobin’s rights hostage and would not negotiate freeing Tobin. They would not negotiate with ACFC. So that's when OL Reign came in and negotiated Tobin’s rights and that’s how she was finally able to play in the NWSL again. Of course it was at Louisville where CP tore her ACL so fuck them forever…  (this is the short version)

Although I’m incredibly sad, I must admit I do feel a sense of relief that this era of the USWNT is over. By era I mean vlatko-ball. We have the talent. It’s time to let them cook.
agreed! TIme to get the right coach in.
I just never saw this coming. I was so vocally In Favor of Vlatko. I thought he would be the perfect fit, given his tactics in the NWSL. I thought that was the last piece we were truly missing with our 2019'ers that would make us unstoppable. And, it did seem like it was the thing until Nov. 2020.
I would love to know what very clearly made Vlatko change the way he approached the team outlook. He did not end the same manager that he started as with this team.
