finally joining in on translating oc names to clanmew! tried to choose some of my more interestingly named ocs, so I had to get a bit creative with a few of them. but it was a really great exercise to try to make the names work! I included the meanings for any names that I combined words for
Krrakassappap / Krrakapappap - Thunderstep
Chikishofi - Icepath
Oskarrabuyanaya / Babenrobyanaya - Chalkwhistle ("white-fossil-sings" / "bone-rock-sings")
Mwuechoop - Rosenose (Qankachoop is probably more accurate, I just think Mwuechoop sounds/looks cuter)
Mwiskarrkoorhhass / Nyararrkoorhhass - Voidwhisper ("missing-existence-whisper" / "no-existence-whisper")
Kitrrihifyn - Jetflame ("hot coal-pearl-flame". I actually didn't know "jet black" is in reference to a gem made of coal! so I learned that today. which is actually very cool, because his father is named Coalfire (Kitkafyar) and oh MAN it's actually extremely fitting to him and his story)
Goshshom - Parsleymoon (had to substitute with fennel, but at least they're in the same family)
Rre'efipo - Cicadagaze (not the right type of cicada, as he's named after the periodical cicadas, but it still works)
not sure if I did everything right, but it was fun nonetheless :]
You did great!! I especially love Voidwhisper, something about the really abstract translations is always really fun to see
Here's a couple more words for you, followed by the iceberg tip of several hours of me going coconuts behind the scenes trying to learn about the geology in this area at the mention of the word "chalk"
Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) = Mwen
After doing some reading, I've learned that Parsley is going to end up being an herb I mention when I get to urinary tract herb guides. It has diuretic properties, but its bizarre side effect is making skin more sensitive to sunlight. Neat stuff!
Whistle (of wind) = Hwuosoon/Hwuosoo/Hwuos
Cats can't whistle because their lips don't pucker, so, I've interpreted this as the sound of high wind passing through grass.
And lastly... I went ahead to try and find if Chalk would be present in Base Clanmew. I went nuts trying to find a good geological survey of the region and this was the best I got;
[ID: a simplified geological map of the british isles]
Soooo... unfortunately there is no chalk here, it's further south! So you should decide what you'd like to call chalk in your dialect
I did go ahead and make THESE words though, for the types of stones they'd see.
Sandstone = Chyon (rough stone) (MOST ABUNDANT)
Shale = Pyark (Flat chip)
Limestone = Owbra (round pebble)
Pigment/rock crushed and used for art-related purposes = Boch
So if you were looking for chalk as less of a *type* of stone and more related to drawing, Boch exists now! I'm going to use it to apply to some of the pigments and rudimentary paints they can make out of clay.
