The Great Escaper ★★★★★
Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson infuse a heartwarming true story with immense joy as they portray Bernard Jordan, the 89-year-old veteran who embarked on a daring journey to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
When Bernie Jordan's impromptu escapade from his nursing home made headlines, he became a symbol of heroism, earning the moniker "The Great Escaper." Director Oliver Parker delivers a refreshingly unfussy drama, with Michael Caine as Bernie and Glenda Jackson as his wife Rene. The film maintains a delicate balance, avoiding excessive sentimentality while showcasing Bernie's profound patriotism and poignant reflections on the past.
Supported by a solid cast, including John Standing and Victor Oshin, Caine and Jackson shine in their respective roles. Caine's return from acting retirement is highlighted by a moving scene where Bernie interacts with German soldiers, a moment delivered with devastating authenticity.
Overall, "The Great Escaper" offers a nuanced exploration of wartime camaraderie and sacrifice, elevated by superb performances that honor the film's poignant narrative and Jackson's final screen role with dignity.

Johnny English Reborn (2011, Oliver Parker)
17/02/2024
Johnny English Reborn is a 2011 film directed by Oliver Parker and starring Rowan Atkinson. It is the sequel to the 2003 film Johnny English.
Eight years after the events in London, Johnny English has retreated to Tibet to practice martial arts and recover from a failed mission to protect the newly elected president of Mozambique, a failure that cost him his knighthood.
In Hong Kong, English meets former CIA Titus Fisher, who reveals to him the name of the criminal organization that intends to eliminate the Chinese premier: Vortex (of which Fisher himself is a member).
On 8 April 2010, Universal Pictures officially announced the production of a sequel to Johnny English, provisionally called Johnny English 2, and the entrusting of the direction of the film to Oliver Parker (former director of St. Trinian's). Filming began on 11 September of the same year in London, and then continued in the English counties of Hertfordshire and Hampshire, Macau and Hong Kong.
The car used in the film by English is a special Rolls-Royce Phantom, modified at the request of Rowan Atkinson himself with a V16 engine to replace the V12 available on the market.
The budget for the making of the film was 45 million dollars.
The first English-language teaser trailer was made available on April 7, 2011. The first teaser trailer in Italian was distributed on the following 12 April, followed by the official trailer on 13 July of the same year. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2011, while in Italian cinemas it was released on the following 28 October.

The Great Escaper (12): (Very) Post Traumatic Stress.
#onemannsmovies #filmreview of "The Great Escaper". #TheGreatEscaper. A touching film of a true story with a last hurrah for 2 greats. 4.5/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “The Great Escaper” (2023). I’ve been away on holiday in the States for four weeks, so am behind on the current cinema films. Thankfully, I was able to catch “The Great Escaper” before it leaves cinemas. Michael Caine has had his share of brilliant film roles during his career (for example in: “Educating Rita”, “The Man Who Would Be King”, “The Ipcress File” the…

Bernard Jordan and his wife Irene had been together for many years and hardly ever apart, once when he was part of the D-Day battles during World War II and then again when he decided to head to France along to be part of the 70th anniversary gathering. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Continue reading Untitled
