“I forgot how fucking dreadful press days are.”
You had just returned home from an entire day of cameras shoved in your face and smiling until your cheeks hurt. It didn’t help that you were nervous as hell at a new club and country. To say your battery was spent was an understatement.
“Well then don’t get used to it, 'cause I’d be happy not to do any of the work that got you here,” Toni answered on the video call.
“Fuck off,” you laughed. “I wanna stay here for a while. So, no need to worry.”
“Good. You deserve it, Y/N. You’ll do great.”
“Thank you for all that you do, Tones. I don’t thank you enough for putting up with me and my bullshit.”
“You can thank me by becoming top scorer this season?”
You grinned, “We’ll see.”
There was a different expectation of being a Barcelona player. You were presumed to integrate yourself into a team of champions and help prolong the club’s success.
These were high expectations, and with them came intensive physical and technical training. You had to adapt to a new style of play, new players with different sets of skills, not to mention having to settle into a whole new footballing culture. But you were where you are because you never backed down from a challenge, and this one was no exception.
It certainly helped that there were people you have played with at the club—Lucy, Keira, and, of course, Ona.
You felt her eyes on you as you finished a sprint on the training ground, slightly self-conscious as you were already sloppy and perspiring just from the warmup.
“Need some water, Y/L/N? You’re not already sweating, are you?” Lucy teased as she jogged past with a ball at her feet.
You pointed at the glaring sun. “Just gotta get used to the weather.”
“Well, ya better get used to it fast ‘cause I’m not gonna wait for you to catch up,” the English defender said before nutmegging you with a cackle.
“Oh, you’re fucking on!”
The laughter caught Ona’s attention. She looked over and saw you and Lucy fighting the ball off each other, your giggles rolling like a child’s yet your movements were fluid and expertly as if you were on the pitch. She couldn’t help but smile as her eyes followed your form, energized and youthful, your skin glistening under the sun.
The ball rolled to her, and she stopped it when the sole of her feet, before passing it back to you. Your giggles died down as you took the ball in your hands and tossed it over to Lucy.
“Hey,” you said with a lingering beam.
“Hi,” she returned your smile.
She lingered, watching the smile never leave your face as you jogged—practically bounced—over to Coach. You were much happier here, it was apparent. How could you not, when there is sunshine all year round in Barcelona? She could only hope she wasn’t the one to rain on your parade.
During a physical training drill involving two people, you were paired with her. Something about similar height and body weight, but she could only think about the way you were panting from the heat, and how you chugged your water like a parched man in the middle of the desert.
“Ready?” She smirked, handing the elastic band to you.
You huffed with a grin and put the band around your waist. “Don’t hold back.”
“Not planning on it.”
Somewhere along the session, Ona had forgotten all about her worries. Something had changed in you, or maybe she had never known the real you at all; the playful and charismatic part of you that you weren’t using to charm her, but it was just the way you were with people. It made her rue not cherishing you as you were before, and letting you slip through her fingers.
You were sprawled out on the grass like a starfish, heaving from the strenuous session. Several of your teammates were also on the ground, some sitting, some lying down as you were, so you didn’t feel too bad about being absolutely destroyed.
“You getting up anytime soon, partner?” A figure blocked the beaming rays of the sun, a short relief from the heat.
“Keep gloating,” you groaned and stood up, pulling your shirt up to wipe the sweat from your face. You knew your plan was working when you spotted her looking at your abdomen, your skin glowing and contoured in the light.
Hardly hiding your smirk, you grabbed a bottle of water, feeling a strange tightness in your thigh just as the session was brought to an end.
“Everyone, gather around,” Mapi waved her hands. “We’re hosting a little party to celebrate a new season at ours. Saturday night, 7 o’clock, BYOB, and a potluck vibe. Whatever you can bring, okay?”
“As long as there won’t be another fire like last time, we’re all good,” said Rolfö with a smirk.
“That was one time, okay? And it wasn’t even that bad,” Mapi protested.
“It almost burned your pretty little face off,” Pina teased.
“Hey, you alright?” You heard Ona whisper next to you. She must have noticed the way you were grimacing and grabbing at the back of your leg.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just feeling a little tight right here.” It was the spot in which your hamstring was injured a couple of years ago.
“Okay, let’s go to the physio,” Ona offered you her arm.
“Oh, it’s okay. I can find my way there.”
Ona hesitated. She suddenly realized how this must have looked for her; either an overly concerned and attentive teammate or an appropriately concerned and attentive lover.
“Do you . . . not want me to come with you?” She asked, her voice quiet and almost inaudible over Mapi frantically defending herself.
“Well, I . . . I don’t want to bother you.”
“It won’t be a bother,” she was astonished to know you thought you could ever bother her. “Promise.”
You nodded and walked with her to the physio quarters. All the while, Ona was walking a step behind you just in case you needed her assistance. When you arrived, a couple of the physios greeted you heartily in Catalan, and Ona was quick to jump in and translate when you looked at her for help.
“We’ve got a feeling this might happen, given her history with that hamstring injury. Tell her to lie down, I’ll have a look.”
You grimaced as the physio felt your thigh, digging his fingers into your flesh, your soft groans stirring a hidden part in Ona. There was a time when she was the one to dig her digits into your thighs. She knew you liked it when did because you would always make your pleasure known.
“He said you’ll be okay, Y/N. Just have to remember to stretch thoroughly before and after physical exercise.”
You sighed and pouted, as you rested your chin on your folded arms.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know. I just came to a new club, I don’t want this to slow me down,” you blew air out of your mouth. “I just don’t wanna let anyone down.”
“You won’t, Y/N,” Ona took a stool and sat in front of you. “I know any club would be happy to have you at 70%, much less at your full capacity.”
You smiled and shook your head. “Is this your attempt at making me feel better after everything?”
Ona stuttered, gawking at your comment. Your grin never faltered, and you tilted your head, taunting her.
“I guess I deserved that,” she chuckled quietly, feeling warmth creep up her cheeks.
“I’m just kidding, Ona. I wanna get past it, really,” your eyes softened. “It was causing unnecessary stress and . . . I don’t wanna feel like that anymore.”
“Y/N, I’m sorry—”
“No, please. Don’t apologize anymore. I know you’re sorry.”
“Okay, sorry,” she cringed as soon as it came out. “Okay.”
“I want us to start over. As friends.” You said, extending a hand towards her, dangling it in front of her face. “After all, I feel like we should at least be friendly if we’re playing on the same team now, right?”
She wanted nothing more than to scream in your face and tell her how much she wanted you, how much she wanted to wake up in the morning and find you in the bed next to her, to make you coffee and hold you and kiss you and tell everyone on the team about it because she would be so proud to be yours, to tell you that there hasn’t been a day since she left Manchester that she didn’t wish she could go back and tell you how she really felt.
Instead, she nodded and took your hand. “Yeah, okay.”
It wasn’t just her decision anymore, it never was. And yet, she decided anyway and had to live with it.
As the season rolled on, you found yourself slipping sometimes. You would think about Ona and the time you spent together, but you also cherished what you had now. You were teammates, but you were also friends. You supported and helped each other during training and matches, just as good teammates should. Maybe it was easier that way, but you yearned to be close to her again.
Keira insisted that the best thing you could do was to go on dates and go on dates you did. You went on so many dates in the span of a month that all the faces seemed to have blurred together. A couple of them became one-night stands, but none turned out to be anything meaningful, not when you only had one person in the back of your mind, hard as you tried not to act on them.
They reminded you of Leena, how shitty you handled the situation by basically fleeing the country. You had called her a few times, and left a few messages, wanting to talk and apologize, but none of them were answered. You tried her Instagram, but she had blocked you on there too. You didn’t blame her, and maybe reaching out now was only giving you the closure you needed to move on, but you wanted to do it because you believed Leena deserved an apology for everything she’s done for you.
So you texted Gio, letting him know what happened. He wasn’t pleased when you told him, not exactly liking that you had disrespected his friend, but agreed to pass a message along.
Tumblr media
“Hello, Coach. Tough loss today. What do you think was the main factor in Barça’s defeat today?” “Well, it’s never fun to go through a loss, and we all have a lot of work to do. I can’t comment as to why we’ve lost—I’d have to watch it back—but we simply were not the better team today.” “What do you think of Y/N Y/L/N’s performance? There were several chances that she’s missed today, and she hasn’t made an impression at the club quite yet. Have you had any reassessments about this signing at all?” “To evaluate a player’s performance this early is simply unfair. Some players hit the ground running right away, but some don’t. It doesn’t mean they are doomed. Y/N has shown time and time again that she is a world-class player, and I have full faith that she will become an integral part of our squad.”
Barcelona hadn’t won in five games. It was starting to worry the board. You knew it was a team sport, and that if you lost, it meant multiple people were doing something wrong. But you started all five of those games, and you missed a lot of chances and passes. It made you think it was your fault somehow.
You turned off the press conference you were watching of Jonatan’s. Even though he didn’t show it, you knew he was stressed, trying to find a fault in the system. You wished you knew the answer, but you didn’t, because you were trying your best and it still didn’t seem to be good enough.
“Alright, girls.” Alexia clapped her hands together as she stood in the middle of the dressing room. “We lost. Big deal. Feel the sting, and let it pass over you. If you don’t, we might as well just give up on the title now. We can’t do that. We’re champions. The reason why we are is that we are strong enough to get back up, time and time again. That’s what makes us champions.”
Your eyes darted toward Ona sitting across the dressing room with her head in her hands. There were two goals out of the four the team conceded that came from the right flank, where Ona was covering. The moment those goals hit the net, you had the urge to yell, but seeing the way her shoulders sagged as she dejectedly looked away absolved you of any anger you felt.
You remembered the nights you spent consoling her over losses that could have gone either way. She blamed herself for every defeat she had suffered, finding every fault that she had contributed to, and today was no different.
“Hey,” you knelt in front of her.
She looked up at you, and you knew she had been crying from how red her face was.
You offered her a sad smile. “Look around you. There’s something worse than being sad, and that’s being alone and sad. You’re not alone.”
Placing a firm hand on her knee, you rubbed her skin softly. She laughed quietly, and you remembered how it was to kiss her. It was so long ago, but the traces of it still haunted you before you closed your eyes at night. It wouldn’t be good for either of you now. Plus, everyone was here.
“Did you just quote Ted Lasso at me?”
“Yeah, but he ain’t wrong.”
Looking around the room at the sullen faces of your teammates, you couldn’t help but feel grateful that they were all here, united by the same emotions. But you still couldn’t shake that gnawing feeling in your stomach that you might have been the problem. The moment you came to the club, Barcelona went on its worst streak in years? Was it the inevitability of a club’s success running its course, or that you had come in and fucked it all up? You knew the answer, of course, and you hated the anxiety that followed.
But you were Y/N Y/L/N, and you never backed down from a challenge, and it wouldn’t be fun if there were none.
Tumblr media
It felt like everything you were doing, it was all wrong. Jonatan had sent you in to utilize your dribbling, but you felt like every time you tried, the opposition would mercilessly cut you off. You felt helpless, seeing the way your teammates attempted to hide how annoyed they were you had lost possession again, this time from a quick pass to the flank from Aitana. You were subbed off halfway through the second half to make way for Salma, who managed to salvage a point with an equalizer later in the game.
You sat on the bench, watching your teammates fight on, feeling dejected and trying not to cry before you could get to the dressing room. Patri, who had also been subbed off, put her arm on your shoulder and rubbed it soothingly.
Whilst you were coming off, you heard boos coming from the stands, from Barça fans, calling you names, telling you to go back where you came from. You bit your lip, and kept your head down, so people wouldn’t see your tears and make fun of them too.
You excused yourself at the final whistle to find a bathroom you could hide in. Why was it so hard for you to receive those passes? You had never had trouble with passing before.
Looking in the mirror, you saw a face looking back with pity. But it wasn’t you, not really. It was the insecure child you were years ago, the one whose ambitions were driven by fear of abandonment. Her eyes were brimming with tears, her bottom lip jutting out and quivering, her chest rose and fell like she awaited the world to close in on her and swallow her whole.
Your breathing picked up, and you started pacing back and forth, breathing heavily out of your mouth. Your hands shook as you mumbled to yourself to get your shit together. The breaths you drew grew faster and shallower until you sunk to your knees on the cold tiles and wept. You didn’t know how long you were there. It could have been minutes, or hours until two arms wrapped around you tightly.
You looked up, panicked, but it was just Ona. Still, you stood up and walked away from her attempting to hide your tear-stained face, but she insisted, pulling you into her.
“It’s okay, Y/N.” She said, over and over. “Look at me.”
So you looked. You were so tired of fighting, you just wanted to go home. Her eyes darted back and forth between yours, hard at first trying to get you to stop being stubborn, but then they softened, seeing you fall apart like this.
“This feels oddly familiar, doesn’t it?” She said.
You sniffled, and let out a tearful laugh before launching yourself into her arms. She stood there holding you while you cried until you were too tired to continue.

Winter could have come and gone in Barcelona and you would have never noticed. Still, the Catalans were big on Christmas, at least the ones you knew were. Everyone had been talking about their holiday plans, much of it involved big dinners surrounded by family and/or drinking until you passed out, but you thought about the vacation you would be taking somewhere warm. Mexico perhaps, the Maldives, or back to good ol’ Ibiza.
So when Ona invited you to come back to Vilassar de Mar to spend Christmas with her and her family, you had an important decision to make. You knew how it looked, but things were far from how they appeared between you. After that game away, you had found it easier to confide in Ona about things; little things, big things, it didn’t matter, Ona was always there to listen. In return, you lent her your ears and maybe a shoulder to lean on. You had almost become something like friends.
Ona’s childhood home was no grand castle, but it was warm and loving. Her parents and brother greeted you like you were family right from the moment you stepped through the door, taking your suitcase and jacket from you. Her father, claiming to be a big fan of yours, asked for your autograph and you could only happily indulge him.
“Please, our home is yours,” her mother said, leading you inside.
“Told you they could be a lot,” Ona murmured with a grin.
“What do you mean? I’m being treated like royalty! I’m not complaining,” you smirked and she rolled her eyes.
Her mother led you and Ona to her childhood bedroom, a small room littered with posters and trophies sitting on a shelf at the foot of her bed.
Just then, her mother gasped quietly as if remembering something, and spoke to Ona in Spanish. She stuttered for a few seconds, then turned to you. “My mom’s saying you could take this room and I’ll sleep in Joan’s. He’ll take the couch if that’s—”
“Oh, no, no, please. I feel bad enough that you guys are hosting me, I can’t just kick your brother out of his room.” You shook your head quickly. “I could sleep here if that’s okay.”
Ona nodded gingerly and relayed the message to her mother, who was fully understanding and left you both to unpack.
The door clicked shut, and you looked over to Ona, who had lifted the corner of her mouth looking back at you.
Aitana came to visit on the 23rd, claiming it was always a treat to hang at the Batlles because she always leaves well-fed. You could attest to that, as the dinners they served you were mouth-watering, and you found yourself thinking about the next one the moment you opened your eyes in the morning.
You had helped Ona’s mom with juicing some lemonade to bring out to everyone relaxing in the backyard or—in Ona and Aitana’s case—passing a football around. Quickly setting the lemonade down on the table—much to Mrs. Batlle’s dismay—you sprinted towards the girls and took the ball from Ona’s feet.
She stuck her tongue out at you and walked towards the table, taking a glass of lemonade for herself.
“Would it be so hard to admit to what you’re both denying yourself?”
You chuckled quietly at Aitana’s words. “It feels more like deprivation than denial.”
“Ona loves you, Y/N.” She said, watching Ona on the other side of the yard conversing with her brother.
“Did she tell you that?”
“I’ve known the girl ever since we were 15,” she shrugged. “And yes, she cried to me last year about you.”
You chuckled. “Well, the feeling is definitely mutual.”
“But . . . ?”
You glanced at her and sent a wordless smile, plopping your sunglasses back on before joining the Batlles for their daily lemonade. Aitana watched you to the table, picking up on Ona quickly handing you a glass, and brushing hair out of your eyes as you drank. Idiots, she thought, the both of them.
Looking back, there was not a single moment during your time in Vilassar de Mar that you weren’t holding your breath every time you were in the same room as Ona. It made you seek out her mom, and hang with her more than you did with Ona. You were also able to pick up some more Spanish, as it was the only way you could effectively communicate with her. You didn’t want to toot your own horn, but her mom did call you an aprendiz rápida, a fast learner.
“Your parents have outdone themselves once again,” you said, leaning against the window. “I wish I grew up with the stuff you guys eat here. Christmas would be so much more fun.”
“Did you like the caga tío too?” Ona grinned and took a seat on the edge of the bed.
“Best thing ever. It poops nougat!” You said excitedly and shook your head.
As your laughter died down, you could hear slurred singing and laughing outside the window somewhere down the street.
“I can’t remember the last time I was this happy,” you said, a ghost of a smile remaining on your lips.
Ona looked out the window, smiling too. “It’s why I always go home whenever I feel down. If I can’t go home, I’ll bring my family to me.” She was sitting next to you now, her arms folded and propped on her thighs. “You’re always welcome to visit. I’m sure they love you more than they love me now.”
“Well, I’d be surprised if they could resist my charm,” you grinned and pushed her shoulder. “I envy you, Ona. Your family’s fantastic.”
“You’ve never told me about your family before,” she said.
“Because there’s nothing to tell,” you shrugged. “Mom and Dad never really cared about me anyway. The only good thing they did for me was sign me up for football and let me leave home to go to my youth club.
They used to go to my games because they were obligated to. The moment I turned 18, they never felt the need. Sometimes I just want to win a game, then look into the stands and see them wearing my shirt, cheering me on, be proud of me.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N,” Ona offered, bumping her knee against your own.
“Don’t be. If they’re not, you shouldn’t be,” you smiled sadly.
Your gaze shifted to her face, seeing the way she studied you, just like that day in the tunnel. Ona was an observer, and it was apparent whenever she was. It was why she was so good at the game; she absorbed like a sponge and repeated what she learned like it was nothing.
Her eyes darted back and forth between your own, and you smiled, watching her nuzzle into her arm, yet leaning in ever so gently.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing."
“Is this wise?” You raised an eyebrow at her, grinning.
“No,” her voice came out as barely a whisper, “but I know it’s not wrong.”
She was right. It shouldn’t be wrong to feel the way you did. From the beginning, it’s always been her.
You were depriving yourself of the one missing piece in your life, but you were afraid of getting hurt again. But you wanted to be loved so badly, and you didn’t want anyone else.

without you || Ona Batlle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
warnings : angst w/ happy ending, i promise. mentions of illness and death. based on the poem above. enjoy :)
last night you were in my dreams
looked me in the eye
god
it felt so real
her side of the bed’s empty. there’s no note left for you in her pretty writing. her car is gone from its place next to yours in the driveway. her pillow smells so much like her, it’s almost like she’s still here. the tears. you hate the tears. they fall without your permission. they wet your pillow, “I’m sorry,” you whisper, the lump in your throat made it hard to swallow.
you roll over to her side of the bed, the cold sheets solidify your loneliness. Ona’s gone. she left this morning, bags seemingly packed for such a long time that there was a little dust bunny at the back of the closet from where she hid the duffle bags.
the sun shines into your room just a little, the window left open from the night before. you had shared a glass of wine there, laughing so loud that the old man who lived across from you yelled for you two to go to bed. his wife scolded him and apologized for his behavior, blowing you a kiss and a promise of fresh pastries she would send you the next morning.
you opened the front door and there they were, neatly packed in a little basket. they were Miguelitos, Ona’s favorite. tears filled your eyes again, picking up the pretty basket with an unsteady hand. the old lady calls from across the road and you force a smile, voice breaking when you yell a thank you in a terrible attempt at Spanish. she smiles and nods anyway, watching as you tread back into the house and she sees you wiping a tear away.
they’re still warm so you leave them on the kitchen uncovered. you call Jonatan and tell him you feel like, faking a sniffle that he doesn’t buy but he gives you the day off anyway. suspiciously, Ona calls him not three minutes later with the same excuse. normally you’d call and tell him you were both under the weather but separate calls raise flags in his mind.
you crawl back into bed and begin to sob, hot tears staining your cheeks and pillow. you pull her pillow close to your chest and try to calm yourself, knowing it was no use when all you wanted was your girlfriend to hold you close and tell you everything was going to be alright.
she had done this two times before. Ona was a perfectionist, a master of her craft. every pass, tackle, dribble, and kick had to be perfect. one loose ball that was her fault meant another hour on the pitch perfecting the pass till her toes hurt from kicking the ball. the first time you had to physically throw her over your shoulder and drag her home, having a strict conversation with Alexia as she cleaned up. you made her promise to take her health seriously or Alexia would wait for the green light from you to be benched until she bucked up.
the message got to her head for about six months until a badly timed tackle earned her a second yellow of the game and the send-off. she ran off the pitch in anger, lashing out at Vicky who was comforting her as she walked off. you were on the bench with a little ankle sprain and waddled after her with Alexia, Mapi, and Pina in tow. you were ready to give her an earful when you heard muffled sobbing in the changing room. you told the others you would handle it and they backed off, faces full of concern for their friend.
“Ona?” you called, walking into the room slowly. she wiped her tears away, trying to look like she wasn’t crying. she refused to raise her head, eyes fixed on her muddy cleats.
“Amor, it’s just me,” you comfort, sitting beside her and rubbing her back. she flinches but leans into your shoulder, crying into your pressed shirt. you rock her a little and let her cry it out, gripping your coat tight as she shook in your arms.
“shh, it was just badly timed princesa. it happens.”
“I’ve let the team down, they need me…” she cried harder, snot running down her face. you reach into your pocket and pull out some tissues, reminding yourself to ask the girls which one of them stuffed it into your pocket. you wipe her face and kiss her nose.
“the girls are fine, we’re five goals up with ten minutes to go. we’ve got this game in the bag.”
“but the next games…”
“should give you a chance to rest and regroup. you’ve been working yourself to the bone again.”
“I’ve been sloppy at training, I can’t afford to make mistakes!” she yelled standing up and storming into the showers.
you lean back and decide to give her some space to breathe, hearing the loud chattering of girls high off another win and a clean sheet. you smile and congratulate them, not wanting them to worry about their teammate. Ona comes out from the showers second to last, hair wet and cheek rosy from the hot water. you sit in her cubby patiently waiting and she kisses you.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you,” she apologizes, fiddling with her fingers. you nod and smile at her, standing up gingerly since your legs have gone numb. she changes and you notice that she’s got one of your ratty t-shirts on and your training sweats. you shake your head and walk out the door, yelling that you’d have the car warmed up for in the front in five.
she scrambles into the car and relaxes into the seat, muscles visibly melting into the warm upholstery. you drive leisurely back home, the Barcelona sunset to your left. Ona snores in the passenger seat softly, not even waking up when the scent of the Chinese takeout you pick up fills the car.
she rouses when you park in front of your house, feeling the familiar cobblestone that you have to drive over just before bringing the car into park. she smacks her lips and feels your lips press a soft kiss on her cheek.
“We’re home, my love.”
she smiles and stretches her arms, climbing out of the car sleepily. you’ve brought all the bags into the house, already cleaning out her kit bag. she rummages through the bags of food and smiles when she smells her favorite. maybe taking a break wasn’t such a bad idea.
it was as if you were here again
deep down inside me feel
Ona locks herself in her room. the sheets feel foreign, itching her skin. you always had the softest sheets, catering to her sensitive skin. the bonus was that they always smelled like you and she made sure to take deep breaths when you changed the sheets every week.
the room smelled stale too. an expected circumstance since she was rarely over here anyway. your house was closer to the pitch and she already had half the closet to herself, why make the trip every time?
there was a knock on the door about twenty minutes after she got home. she knew it was Aitana with a billion questions but all she wanted was to be alone. really she wanted to be with you but she’d fucked that up. she didn’t even know why she ran, the pressure of performing was becoming too much and she didn’t want to be a burden. she couldn’t bear to see that look of disappointment she saw glimmer over your face when she got her first red card with Barça.
the banging on her bedroom door was what woke her up hours later. Aitana mentioned breakfast in the oven and coffee in the coffee pot before the front door slammed shut. she checked her phone and there was radio silence, half hoping that you had left an angry voicemail telling her to come home. instead, she was met with her wallpaper of you holding Coco over the summer at her parent’s house.
tears pool in her eyes as she scrolls through her camera roll, swiping through all the silly photos you made her take that night. she threw her phone on the bed and screamed into the mattress, hoping deep down inside she was braver in another lifetime.
and when the light came to wake me,
and you slowly starting to fade away,
my soul was longing for you to take me,
Ona walked onto the pitch three days later, heart aching to see you. she stepped onto the pitch and spotted you talking to the girls, Ingrid slapping you on the back laughing at a joke Mapi told the group. she decides to avoid you, too cowardly to face the music. you notice her and smile but she turns away quickly, busying herself with her laces. you decide to try and corner her at the end of practice you do, needing the help of the girls to keep her from running to her car the moment Jonatan blows his whistle.
“why did you run away like that, Oni?” you ask her quietly, the rest of the team filtering out when Alexia begins to shepherd them outside.
“it’s none of your business,” she growls, tears flowing down her cheeks as she packs her kit bag. you grab her shoulder and she turns around with anger seething in her eyes. you’ve never seen hatred in her eyes before, it was unlike her; unlike your cheerful, noisy, playful but shy girlfriend.
“Ona? what’s gotten into you?” you ask, feeling tired of all the secrets she’s been harboring. for weeks you’ve been concerned about her odd behavior. she’s been making frequent visits to the medics, getting off practice earlier and staying longer sometimes, random trips to the ‘store’ for hours on end. you thought that she was planning something since your anniversary was coming up and she liked to make a big thing about it but when she left that morning it hit you that she was probably preparing to leave. this time though, it was for good.
it's her third round of dialysis this week. Ona sat in the lumpy chair of her dialysis center when her doctor walks in.
“how does it look, doctor?”
“it’s fourth-stage renal failure, Ona. you need a transplant or else you’re never playing football again. frankly, I don’t know how you’ve kept playing this long.”
“Jonatan knows.”
“I see,” he says and sits. “does your girlfriend know?”
“she’s not my girlfriend anymore.”
“did you decide that for her, or did she have any say?”
Ona looks up at him in shock. she tries not to jostle the machine as she sits up.
“How did you know?”
“you looked like you didn’t want to believe it when you said it.”
“she deserves better than,” she gestures to the machine, “this.”
“she deserves you,” he says and stands. as he walks away and Ona is about to cry, he turns and clears his throat. “she’s donated blood here before, she’s a perfect donor match.”
Ona tries to cry into her palm quietly, the weight of her decision bearing down on her shoulders.
but instead,
i must live without you,
for another day.
you wake up feeling groggy, and the sound of steady heartbeats fills the room. there’s another heartbeat that deep down sounds familiar and it puts a smile on your face.
a chilling call from Jonatan put you in this hospital bed. he explained that Ona needed a transplant and that you were a perfect match. you cried in his office, body shaking with anger at yourself more than at Ona. you knew that it ran in her family and that her age was when the onset was. the extra visits to the doctor and ‘shop’ trips all made sense now. you punched a wall on your way out dramatically, crying like a baby all the way home. you barged into her house, Aitana following behind you like a puppy.
“so you were just going to run and wait for you to die?” you yelled at her, body shaking in fury. she just stared at her fingers, fiddling with the end of the throw blanket in her lap.
“answer me!”
“you don’t deserve this!” she screamed back, tears running down her face. “you don’t deserve someone who is dying to be your girlfriend!”
tears flood down your cheeks and you hear her door click closed, Aitana in front of it.
“you had no right to decide that for me, Oni!”
“I couldn’t put you through this. if I don’t get a kidney soon, first it’ll be football then it’ll be me!”
“I know I’m a match.”
her head whips up to look at you so fast, you’re sure she’s gone and given herself another ailment.
“no.”
“I’m a perfect match, Onita.”
“I could never ask you to do that!”
“you’re not asking if I’ve already asked them to make sure it goes to you.”
“Bebé, I–”
“no, you would do the same for me. I love you too much to see you like this,” you kneel in front of her as she sits on the bed, feeling overwhelmed. “Please, Oni,” you beg with your head in her lap, “Please let me help you.”
Ona wakes up and looks over at you, sighing in relief that the surgery was a success. the nurses have pushed your beds close enough together that you stretch your arm out and she does the same, fingers laced together with an unspoken promise to face every challenge that comes your way the only way you knew was right; together.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: childhood bestfriend to lovers to strangers
Warning: just toxic bestfriend, jealousy issues to many spelling mistakes for me too care for at this point in life
You and Lucy had always been together 24/7 has you both grew-up together like the childhood friends you're. Never letting go of one another. Always following each other, most people would think that you both were together.
"You've always felt attracted to lucy. Because of the way she treats you, always taking care of you getting the stuff she knows you'll need and most of all dealing with your massive sassy princess attitude.
Back in 2020 where she played for Manchester city around the covid out-break. You both decided to moving in together, always needing each other's company. After a while of living with lucy she finally confessed her feelings which you felt the same way.
Making you both finally official has most of your friends have been anticipating the moment.
You and lucy relationship had been going amazing. a little fights here and there but nothing to serious that would go way too far. Until she announced that she'll be leaving to play for Barcelona meaning you'll both have to do long distance until she comes for break or international duties.
Which you were okay with until now you've both been arguing way more recently all you ever wanted was for her to make more time on her busy schedule but she couldn't has they've been having game after game. Making you upset which would start random yelling match from the phone's.
"Another yelling match". said ona
lucy and ona had gotten really close for the past months. that she been playing for barca has she was found by her in the locker room crying from one of your arguments. Since then they've both gotten really close
"Yeah it just getting way worse and I don't think I know what to do".lucy said
"lucia I think we both know what you need to do" replied ona.
"but ona you know I can't I love her too much to do that she's been through everything with me all I want is to is too fix the holes in our relationship but nothing seems to work".
"I know but you can't keep pushing it like that do what best for both of you". ona told her while holding her hands.
That night you got a call from lucy which you weren't expecting.
cause it would have been really late for lucy which meant she was definitely up thinking about something but what she told you honestly couldn't comprehend.
She was breaking up with you over the phone from 1,137.96 kilometers away from each other that night you cried your heart out from the heavy feelings to now feeling empty.
You lost the love of your life the person that made you smile gave you whatever you needed that assisted you without asking you lost her.
And now feeling broken pices that no one could ever pick up again you hated this banging pain.
It been months since you're break up with lucy some people could've seen it from a distance but other's likewise.
it came shocking to both families who were sure that you both would have worked it out and get married in the future.
But they were wrong cause now she was with ona.
Ona is a pure soul nothing compare to you. you've tried hating her but couldn't the girl was way to nice for her own sake everyone around her loved her which you couldn't get that much what was so special about her but not you.
The last time you saw Lucy was around her vist back to england but instead of as lover you both we're now mere strangers who were once deeply inlove.
A/n : this has honestly sleeping in my drafts for the longest of time and I just got it done there's probably a lot of mistakes cause it wasn't proof read yet but other than that hope y'all enjoy this and don't forget that my request are open

but even after this, you’re still everything to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: im not hugely keen on this but thought i’d post it anyway! i hate this luna fic drought we’re all in so much so here’s my contribution hehe! i’ve also only roughly read it through so please ignore any mistakes.
word count: 7.4k
but even after this, you’re still everything to me.
Everything was a constant reminder of her; the matching toothbrush that shared a home beside her own, the golden smiley face necklace that she had given her as a present because it reminded her of her smile, the excessive amount of half empty condiments still in the fridge, the little westie she saw every day after training and whom still got excited to see her.
Lucy was gone, but the memory of her was far from that.
It had been a grand total of six months since the defender had transferred to her new club. Six months since Ona had felt truly happy. She felt silly really, their relationship had started off as long distance and it was overly common to have to deal with it at some point being a sportsperson.
However, after living the dream life with Lucy for an entire season and becoming so accustomed to having her by her side day and night it utterly broke her when she left. It broke them.
She didn’t blame Lucy, she couldn’t. The defender had wanted to extend her contract with Barça but unfortunately wasn’t offered a renewal. The pair had cried many tears together when they learnt the news, less than ready to face being apart yet again. They spent evenings upon evenings going through offers that Lucy had received and weighing out the pros and cons.
In the end, Lucy settled on Bayern. She had offers worldwide, everyone unsurprisingly jumping at the chance to sign the talented right-back. However, Germany was the closest she could be to Ona and although swearing she would always put her career first, Ona was now her priority.
The day the older woman had left, the last time she closed the door to what had been their shared apartment, she had taken off with a promise. She promised Ona that they would be okay, that she would visit whenever she could and that she would never give up on them.
She kept that promise. Messaging and facetiming Ona at every opportunity, finding as many gaps in her schedule as she could just to fly over to see her, but Ona wasn’t strong enough. The younger woman couldn’t cope with the distance, she’d had a taste of a life with Lucy and having it ripped from underneath her sent her into self sabotage.
Lucy wasn’t stupid, she knew Ona like the back of her hand and so the change in her demeanour was picked up by her instantly.
“Is everything okay?”
Ona looked at her through the screen, the beautiful eyes she loved more than anything filled with nothing but concern. She went to nod, pretend that everything was fine, but it wasn’t and Lucy knew it too.
“I can’t do this anymore.”
The break up was filled with tears. None of the breakups the spaniard had been through had been pleasant, but this was so different. They were both still so deeply in love with the other, they wanted it to work but had both come to the conclusion that they were putting one another through more harm than good.
Lucy was the woman that Ona wanted to spend the rest of her life with. She knew that from day one, but for some reason the clouded thoughts in her brain persuaded her that it would be easier to give it all up rather than fight for it. It was completely out of character for Ona to just give up this easily, but she had never experienced a love like this and love makes you do crazy things.
She spent the rest of the night crying in bed, using Coco as a source of comfort. She didn’t think she could possibly feel anymore shitty until her phone pinged with a message, her heart physically breaking at its contents.
I promise this is the last time i will contact you, but i just had to say this before i let you go.The two years i got to call you mine were easily the best years of my life. I’ll never find another like you Ona Batlle and i hope more than anything that one day we find our way back to eachother. Thank you for everything. I love you, always.
Your Lucia.
They hadn’t spoken since.
Everyone told her it would get better after that, or somewhat easier. It never did. It had been months since the breakup and although she was able to force a smile onto her face at training, the facade instantly slipped as soon as she got a minute alone.
The team were at dinner together after being away for international break. Ona being forcefully dragged out by Mariona against her will after insisting she wanted to stay home. She loved being around her teammates, but the thought of socialising with anyone now aside from her dog felt utterly challenging.
She was sat beside Keira throughout the meal, not missing the concerned glances the ginger would give her every now and again. The spaniard envied Keira in a way, her being the only one on the team who got to see Lucy somewhat regularly. Tossing around a piece of chicken on her fork, she couldn’t help but allow temptation to get the better of her and ask the question on the front of her mind.
“How is she?”
Keira turned to face Ona, her eyes immediately softening as she took in her broken expression.
“She asked me the same question.”
The ginger smiled sadly, not forgetting the same sad look that was on Lucy’s face when she too asked how Ona was doing.
“Her and Georgia are thick as thieves now they play on the same team, but you should really message her yourself. I know it would make her smile from ear to ear because she’s missing you an awful lot.”
Ona hated the way her heart picked up upon hearing that last part. She thought she should be moving on, but it was impossible.
The midfielder didn’t miss the hopeful glint in her eye upon hearing how much Lucy missed her. Some may say it was odd how much care Keira had for her ex girlfriend and her ex girlfriends ex, but she couldn’t deny they were perfect for one another. Herself and Lucy had ended on the best terms possible and she and Ona had made her feel more than comfortable when they all played on the same team, actually forming a genuine friendship that they all valued.
“Long distance is hard, but it really is worth it if you love them enough. I wish more than anything that i got to see Laura everyday but everytime i do get to see her i’m reminded of why i do it.”
The spaniard let out a sigh, grateful for Keira’s kindness but also filled with the thoughts that she wasn’t strong enough to cope with it. She didn’t want to be the reason that her and Lucy both always felt an emptiness when they were apart.
“Thank you, Keira. She would be worth it, of course she would, but i’m just not as strong as you are.”
Keira wanted to argue it, convince Ona that she was indeed strong enough and that the heart ache would never actually go away if she just gave up. However, she also knew that Ona didn’t need to hear that right now, opting to just squeeze her shoulder and offer her a sad smile.
So, for the remainder of the football season Ona did her best to push her sadness to the back of her mind. There was no way she was going to be getting back into the dating scene, that wouldn’t be fair on her or a potential partner. Instead, she focused on finding things that made her happy again and partook in less moping around. She busied herself with old and new hobbies that she found she enjoyed and worked on her ever awful baking skills all the way up until the final match.
Her teammates noticed the change in her, and although the tinge of sadness never quite left, they were overjoyed to get a slice of their happy friend back. The euros were also fast approaching, and having played her last game of the 24/25 season Ona was feeling as ready as ever to play for her country.
The tournament was being held in Switzerland, and having visited a few times already Ona was excited to return to the beautiful country. Amongst the excitement of it all, the spaniard hadn’t even thought twice about the fact that Spain obviously weren’t going to be the only country in attendance. It wasn’t until she was sat on the plane next to one of her best friends, Salma, that the realisation hit her like a ton of bricks.
“You think you’re going to be okay, Oni?”
Ona had given her a questioning look, taking out an airpod to try and gauge what she was referring to.
“Seeing Lucy again and everything.”
That’s when it hit her.
She’d tried to force herself to stop thinking about Lucy as much. She attempted the classic out of sight, out of mind approach and although it hadn’t worked and she still thought about her every single damn minute, she hadn’t actually taken into consideration the fact they were going to be more than likely less than five minutes down the road from one another for the next few weeks.
They hadn’t ended on bad terms at all, the last message Ona received from the english woman being nothing but adorable. However, that didn’t prevent the nervous feeling growing in her tummy at the idea of seeing the woman she loved so dearly after so many months.
“I hadn’t actually thought about it.”
Salma noticed the way her friend was nervously picking at her nails now, placing her hand atop to offer some comfort.
“It will be fine, you don’t need to worry. It’s not like it’s going to be awkward between you or anything.”
For the remaining duration of the flight, Ona couldn’t help but allow her mind to spiral about what seeing Lucy again would be like. She was excited in a way, she missed the older woman more than she ever knew it was possible to miss a human, but she also was filled with nerves.
Herself and Lucy had always struggled to stay away from one another. They were like magnets from the day they met, drawn to one another instantly when in close enough proximity. It was one of the things that made Ona realise just how deep her love for her was, never before being a very physical person.
The spaniard allowed her mind to wander all the way up until she reached her hotel room. The girls all got their own rooms now, which she appreciated for the privacy but also missed the company.
Ona collapsed straight onto the white sheets and as soon as she unlocked her phone, almost immediately found herself mindlessly scrolling through Lucy’s instagram, something she definitely didn’t do on the regular, and smiling to herself at the pictures. Lucy was the most beautiful woman on the planet in her eyes and she couldn’t help but want to appreciate that.
As she scrolled down a little further, she came across her favourite collections of photos. During their relationship they both had agreed to keep it private, but not a secret. So, something they both had enjoyed doing frequently was complying pictures for a photo dump that gave the teeniest subtle hints of the other.
They resembled school girls whenever they’d hit the post button, giggling away to each other about the hidden meanings behind each photo they had chosen.
As she refreshed the page, scrolling back up to the top, she came across a new photo she hadn’t seen before. It had been posted only twenty seconds ago and showed Lucy, grinning widely at the camera as she stepped off a plane. Ona missed that smile more than anything, not being able to stop herself from zooming in to get a closer look at her favourite eyes. She missed looking into them without the preventative barrier of a screen more than anything. However, what she definitely didn’t intend to do at all was like the photo.
As soon as the red heart splayed across the screen, she froze.
“Mierda!”
She muttered to herself, shutting off her phone instantly. It really wasn’t that big of a deal. All she’d done was press the like button, but knowing it was  after only twenty seconds of being posted made her internally cringe.
She wasn’t a huge instagram user at the best of times, only really going on there to promote games or post a few photos herself. She rarely ever liked posts and Lucy knew that. It had become a weird sort of game for them both, Lucy knowing that if she ever received a like from Ona it meant that the spaniard had really, really enjoyed the photo.
After a few minutes of cursing herself, face buried into her hands, she felt her phone buzzing multiple times from underneath the pillow she had shoved on top of it.
Lucy Bronze liked your post.
Lucy Bronze liked your post.
Lucy Bronze liked your post.
She knows she shouldn’t but Ona couldn’t help the smug smile that wiped across her face. She’d been in the same country as Lucy for approximately an hour and already she couldn’t keep away.
She stared at the collection of notifications, knowing Lucy knew exactly what she was doing and contemplated messaging her. She was weighing up the pros and cons in her head before she finally came to the conclusion of…fuck it.
Stalker.
She kept it short and a reply came almost instantly.
If i remember correctly it was you who liked my post first, within a minute of it being posted may i also add.
You looked nice.
She was feeling brave, eagerly anticipating Lucy's response and not being disappointed when it came through.
So did you.
The spaniard hovered her fingers over the keys, preparing what she wanted to say next when her phone began to ring with a facetime request. She knew who it was before even reading the ‘Lucia’ followed by a pink heart, that flashed up. Ona knew it was a bad idea to answer the call, but it was a bad idea to send her a message in the first place, so to hell with it.
As the screen filled with Lucy, she opened her mouth to speak but was immediately silenced by the sight. The defender had her hair down and splaying across her shoulders, her glasses resting perfectly on the bridge of her nose, a content smile on her lips. She must’ve noticed Ona’s trance as what was a smile turned into a smirk and she took the words right out of her mouth.
“I’ve missed seeing your face.”
Ona blushed at that, mirroring the smirk that Lucy was giving her.
“You are in Switzerland now, too?”
Lucy nodded, “We arrived a couple hours ago. How have you been?”
The pair spoke for hours, but it felt like minutes. Everything always felt so easy with Lucy, and Ona had missed the lighthearted conversations they would share. It was nice to talk to someone and not feel like she was pretending for once. Lucy could tell just by the younger girls' mannerisms that she wasn’t totally herself and she too wasn’t totally herself either. Neither woman had been since the day they had broken up.
Lucy had craved seeing Onas smile for months, but the fact it didn’t quite reach her eyes anymore didn’t go unnoticed by her. She kept pressing her on whether she was really doing okay, and upon being met with an unconvincing nod for the third time she asked her to see her tomorrow.
Ona was sceptical at first, knowing that she would likely break down at some point if she was to see Lucy. However, the opportunity was unlikely to become available again anytime soon so she had to grab it with both hands. She chose to ignore how impossibly further back that would set her on her attempts at moving on, and she honestly couldn’t bring herself to care.
“You’re really up for meeting tomorrow, yeah?”
Lucy questioned, a little taken aback that Ona had actually agreed.
“Si, i would really like to.”
After saying goodnight to Lucy, Ona couldn’t quite comprehend the fact that she would be seeing her tomorrow. She tossed and turned in the hotel bed, thinking about how long it had been and what she was actually going to say to her.
When realisation had hit her on the plane earlier that day that they’d be in the same place, she didn’t think for even a second that tomorrow she’d be willingly meeting up with her. Just the two of them.
The thought of being next to her and not being able to call her love, rest her head in the crook of her neck, trace the outline of her wrist tattoo the way she loved, kiss her senseless seemed impossible. She and Lucy had been drawn to each other from day one, never ever being just friends and always being one hundred times more than that. However, she would have been a fool to turn down her offer after craving just her presence for so many months.
It’s safe to say she went to sleep with Lucy, and Lucy only on her mind that night.
Ona was convinced she had never gotten up and ready faster in her life the next morning. Herself and Lucy had agreed to grab coffee and just go for a stroll around a local park, close to both of their hotels. It was crazy to think that they actually used to do this most days together, and it was now that Ona realised how much she took the most simple of things for granted.
She didn’t plan on telling anyone that she was going to meet Lucy, not wanting to answer any unwanted questions. However, the ridiculously wide smile for only eight in the morning didn’t go unmissed by Mariona.
“What’s got you so smiley chica?”
Ona turned to give her a small shrug.
“Just excited for tomorrow’s game.”
Mariona narrowed her eyes, not believing a single word.
“I know that smile. That’s your Lucy smile, have you seen her?”
The brunettes eyes widened. She loved how close she was with her teammates, but the fact they could analyse her moods this in depth and with such little information made her wish they didn’t know her quite so well.
“How did you kn-“
Mariona cut her off.
“You’ve been a lot happier these past few weeks Oni, but we can all tell it’s a little false. You haven’t looked as happy as you do this morning since Lucy left Barça. Now you’re in the same country and suddenly you’re like the gato de Cheshire!”
Ona sighed in defeat, there was no way she could argue with that.
“Okay fine, you got me. But i haven’t seen her yet. I’m meeting her after breakfast and it’s just as friends, sadly.”
The forwards grin widened even more, impressed with her ability to guess correctly and also happy that two of her best friends would be reuniting again.
“Do you think it’s a bad idea though? I want to see her so badly but i’m…scared.”
Mariona met her with a sympathetic smile, grasping her hand that was nervously picking at her t-shirt.
“There’s no need to be nervous, guapa. I know, we all know, how much you have been missing her and this is the greatest opportunity. Besides, you and Lucy will get back together one day. I know everything, remember.”
Ona let out a huff of a laugh, shaking her head as she got up to scrape the remnants of her breakfast into the bin.
“Gracias, Mario.”
“Don’t have too much fun, Oni. Oh and when you’re done with her tell her i’d like to see her too!”
Mariona called out after her as the spaniard made her way outside with a fond chuckle and a ‘si lo que sea.’
As Ona made her way outside, she stood by the fir tree tucked around the corner from the Spanish girls hotel. She and Lucy had agreed to meet there and so she busied herself with scrolling through her emails she had neglected whilst she waited. She had so many feelings. She was nervous and excited all at the same time, but thankfully the anticipation was cut short as a deep, familiar voice called out to her.
“Ona?”
Her head snapped up at the English accent, emails immediately forgotten.
As soon as she looked into those beautiful eyes properly for the first time again in too many months she felt as though she could turn into a human puddle.
“Hola, Lucia.”
Lucy smiled at the nickname, all the feelings she had been desperately trying to keep bottled up spilling out. She let out a deep sigh as she took in the woman in front of her.
“Wow, i- i can’t believe you’re here.”
Ona mirrored her smile, nodding her head in the direction of the park to begin their walk together.
They chatted non-stop about anything and everything, never once enduring any type of awkward silence and everything felt just like it had many months ago. Lucy brought them
both a coffee, ordering exactly what she knew Ona liked and ignoring the spaniards insistence on paying.
As they carried on, coffees in hand the pair reached a bench in a secluded area, opting to sit down for a while.
“So, how is it at Bayern?”
“It’s okay. The girls are lovely, it’s nice to have Georgia there as a familiar face, but i miss being in Barcelona a lot.”
“I bet you just miss the sun.”
Lucy let out a chuckle at that, knowing how much Ona used to tease her that she was more English than her as Lucy was always such a baby whenever the temperature dropped below twenty five degrees.
“Well that’s a big part of it, yeah. All it does is bloody rain in Germany, but I also miss the food, the views, Narla, the girls…you.”
Ona’s breath hitched a little. It felt as though she and Lucy had silently agreed not to divulge into their feelings, but knowing she missed her made her heart beat that little bit extra.
She looked her dead in the eye, her own eyes softening at the small expression on her face. The spaniard couldn’t help but reach her petite hand out and place it on Lucy's knee and as if by reflex, Lucy’s hand came to rest on top of Ona’s.
“I miss you too, Lucia.”
Ona swallowed deeply, looking down at their hands as Lucy began to rub small circles across her knuckles. It took every strength within her body to restrain herself from leaning forward and attaching their lips, so instead of doing that she tried to divert the conversation in a different direction.
“So, you don’t have a new girlfriend then?”
The Englishwoman let out a rumbly laugh at the question, deeming it as absolutely ridiculous.
“Don’t be stupid, course i don’t.”
“Well good, i was just checking.”
“Good? Why, what would you have done if i’d said yes?”
Lucy was smirking at her, the smirk that almost always had Ona on her knees.
“Tell her to, how you say? Back the fuck off.”
She knew she should tone down on the flirting, only setting herself up for more pain in the near future. But when Lucy was looking at her like that with that smirk on her face she simply couldn’t help herself.
“That’s hot” Lucy murmured.
Ona couldn’t wipe the grin off of her face, not missing the way Lucy was now trailing her fingertips up her arm. Until, all of a sudden reality came crashing down on her.
It was almost like for a split second she’d forgotten about the fact they weren’t actually together anymore, they’d fallen back into their usual ways the second they’d reunited and it was only now that Ona had to remind herself the woman beside her wasn’t hers anymore.
“Hey, you okay?”
Lucy asked, evidently concerned as the spaniards smile had faltered and her eyes had filled with sudden sadness.
Ona nodded, trying but failing to keep the thick hot tear that now trickled down her cheek at bay.
“Woah, woah what’s the matter?”
The defenders eyes widened, her hand immediately coming up to rest on the small of her back. The sudden change in Onas mood scared her beyond belief, there was nothing she hated more than seeing her in any sort of discomfort.
“It, it’s just-“
She began, stuttering her way through the answer.
“For a second it was like I completely forgot.”
“Forgot about what?”
Lucy questioned, her voice soft and hand never stopping it’s comforting movements across the small back.
“That we aren’t us anymore. I’ve only been with you for no more than an hour and it already feels like the old times again.”
Ona let out a long, shaky breath, desperately rubbing at her now reddened eyes to stop the tears. As she blinked her way through them, her vision becoming a tiny bit clearer, she focused on Lucy, and the way she was looking at her as if she was the only thing that mattered sent another fresh pang across her heart.
“Oh, sweetheart.”
The lioness pulled her into her chest, Ona not even trying to fight it and allowing her head to rest there. She sniffled into Lucy’s training shirt, relishing in the familiar smell of her perfume as she allowed herself to calm down in the embrace.
“It’s so hard, so fucking hard. You have no idea how much I miss you every single day.”
Lucy whispered as she stroked her hair, scratching at her scalp lightly in the way she knew always brought her comfort.
The two women made no attempt to move for a good few minutes, Ona’s sobs finally subsiding as she chose to fully focus on the way Lucy's fingers felt brushing through her hair. She lifted her head from the comfy spot on her chest, sitting back against the bench as Lucy’s eyes followed her with concern.
“Lo siento. I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“No, it’s good to talk about your feelings. You can’t bottle them up all the time, it’s not good for you.”
Ona looked at the ground, not being able to meet Lucy’s eyes again. Her willpower was declining and she knew that as soon she looked at her face again, she would be pressing her lips against said face.
“I need to go.”
“Already?”
Ona nodded, standing up from her spot and any glimmer of hope that Lucy had felt was immediately gone.
“Please don’t just walk away from this, we’re both hurting Ona and it’s not just going to go away.”
The broken tone in Lucy’s voice made her feel all different types of guilt. Deep down she knew she was being stupid. She could get back with Lucy and feel ten times happier, but there was something inside her convincing her she would just be putting them both through pain.
“I’m sorry but I think this was a mistake.”
She walked away without another look back, tears spilling down her cheeks as the sad look on the Englishwoman's face was etched into her mind. Nothing was ever a mistake with Lucy, the only thing being her own actions.
As soon as she entered her hotel, heading straight for the lift she was spotted by Mariona.
“Ay, Ona! Esperar!”
Her teammate called out, chasing after her with a grin on her face that quickly turned into confusion upon seeing her tear stained face.
“I messed it all up, it was going so well and then I just freaked.”
Ona was a blubbering mess as Mariona followed her into the lift. She pulled her into her embrace, rocking her side to side and tried to provide her with the reassurance she needed.
“Come on Oni, tell me what happened.”
Hours had passed and Ona was still trying to explain the internal battle that was going on in her head. Mariona was being so kind, carefully listening to the explanation and offering the best advice she could muster up.
“Do you really not think making it work long distance is an option? You both love each other chica, and that’s how you started this.”
“I know and I feel so stupid. So many people have to do it, you do it. I think i’m just craving the old life we had.”
Mariona nodded in understanding.
“I understand, but it is important to remember that it’s not forever. I miss Lia all the time, but I know that one day we will have the life together we always talk about.”
Ona smiled a little at that, suddenly feeling terrible for rambling on and not asking about her friend's life more often.
“How is Lia?”
“Buena. I’m glad i finally get to spend some time with her here, it makes it all worth it.”
Ona couldn’t help but remember back to her conversation with Keira a few months ago, the ginger saying the exact same thing. The two friends continued their conversation way into the night, both reminiscing on the time both Lia and Lucy had come to watch them play in the nations league final. The spaniard was so grateful to have friends as understanding as her team mates.
Spains first game was the next day and they absolutely flew through it, just like they did the whole tournament really. The euros went by so fast and before she knew it, Ona was preparing for the final game. The final game that was against none other than England. It was like des ja vu for the whole team, except this time around Ona wasn’t giddily messaging her girlfriend the morning before.
After her conversation with Mariona, she had decided not to message Lucy again during the tournament. She had wanted to, felt the need to apologise for the way she took off with barely an explanation. However, she also didn’t want to mess with her head during such a big competition, and figured it would be easier for both of them to have their full focus on getting a win for their country. She had decided she wanted to make a go of it though, nothing could be worse than the feeling she already felt every day. She just hoped and prayed that she wasn’t too late.
As soon as the Spanish team arrived at the stadium they were ushered out onto the pitch to perform their pitch inspection. The England team were already out there and before Ona could even search for Lucy she was being dragged into a hug by Ella.
“Ona! I’ve missed ya.”
The strong northern accent boomed, still never being able to pronounce her name correctly.
“Ah, Tooney. It has been too long.”
Ona replied as she felt herself being slowly lifted off of the ground by the girls strong hug. They caught up for a few minutes, Ona spending most of it in hysterics over whatever Ella was talking about. Until the inevitable question came up.
“You gonna go speak to Bronzey?”
Ona sighed, looking across the grass where she finally found the woman in question. She was chatting to Alexia and Laia, donning a wide smile that Ona wished she was the cause of.
“Si, i will actually. It was nice seeing you though and good luck tonight.”
Ella ruffled her hair before making her way over to Lucia, deciding it was time to pester her now and once she disappeared Ona looked back over at Lucy to find her now alone, scrolling on her phone.
She took a deep breath and made her way over, stopping right in front of her.
“Hola.”
Lucy looked up from her phone, swallowing deeply as she met her eye.
“Oh, hey.”
It was colder than Ona was used to, colder than it had been when she’d seen her only a few weeks ago.
“How are you?”
Lucy nodded, “Im fine. You?”
The spaniard couldn’t hide the hurt on her face now and just simply nodded. She had never been spoken to by Lucy this bluntly before and she instantly felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes.
“I missed you.”
She desperately tried, hoping Lucy would give her something back. She could see the slight break in her demeanour after that, her eyes somewhat softening if only a tiny bit.
“Good luck tonight.”
Was Lucy’s response and as she tried to make her way past her, Ona grabbed her hand. Lucy looked down at the grip Ona now had on her wrist, almost breaking at the way her thumb cascaded across it gently.
“Please, don’t be like this.”
“Like what, Ona? You’ve made it perfectly clear we can’t be together so I don't know how you want me to act?”
There were tears filling in the spaniards eyes now, unable to look anywhere but Lucy but feeling her heart break even more at the hushed way she was shouting at her.
“Im sorry that i ran off the other week. I was scared, Lucy and i didn’t want to hurt either of us anymore than i already have. I just want-“
She was cut off by the whistle, summoning both teams back inside.
“Please, just let me explain after the game.”
Lucy looked down at the way Ona still had a hold of her wrist and then back up to meet her eyes, nodding slowly before she had to walk away and rejoin her England team mates.
Ona let out a deep breath she hadn’t even realised she’d been holding as she walked her way back into the changing rooms. She didn’t really know what she expected, but it definitely wasn’t that. The younger girl couldn’t blame Lucy for being distant with her, but that didn’t make it hurt any less when the one thing she wanted more than anything in the world was Lucy.
When the teams lined up side by side in the tunnel, Ona couldn’t help but turn around to look at Lucy. Though when she turned and found her eyes already on her, she wished she hadn’t as how was she supposed to concentrate on the game now?
It was even worse when she made her way down the line to give hand shakes and high fives to the England team. When she got to Lucy, last as always, she couldn’t help but hold onto her hand for a second longer than what was probably deemed acceptable.
Lucy gave her hand a small squeeze, and there was evidence of a tiny smile growing at the corners of her mouth as she mouthed ‘im sorry.’ This was all the reassurance that Ona needed to go out and play this match.
Little did Ona know that Jordan had been silently observing their interaction during the pitch inspection. She had questioned Lucy on it as soon as they had taken their seats in the changing room.
“What was all that about?”
“What d’you mean?”
Lucy had responded nonchalantly.
“All that out there with you and Ona. Why are you giving her the cold shoulder?”
The defender shrugged, “I'm not.”
Jordan rolled her eyes, "I'm not as stupid as you think. You’ve been non-stop going on about her since the day you broke up, so why were you acting like that?”
“Because I love her Jord, okay? I love her and every time I think about her it bloody hurts.”
The Aston Villa players' face softened, remaining quiet so that Lucy could carry on.
“It hurt me so bad when I last saw her. I thought for a split second there might’ve been a chance but she made it perfectly clear there wasn’t when she upped and left. So, I thought that maybe this time if I was blunt with her, didn’t give her much conversation then I wouldn’t be opening myself up to feeling even more like shit when she inevitably walks away again.”
Jordan let out a sigh, wrapping her arm supportively around her shoulder.
“She seemed like she genuinely wanted to talk to you, Luce. I couldn’t hear what she was saying obviously but maybe she’s had some time to think and genuinely wants to give the long distance a go.”
“Yeah, maybe, I don’t know. I told her i’d speak to her after the game so I just need to focus on getting this win first.”
The game was a tough one to say the least. The world cup champions against the european champions was never going to be a walk in the park, but Ona found she thrived off the intensity. She was playing well, her whole team was playing well and were fuelled by the excitable crowd. However, a last minute goal by Lauren Hemp meant that England had done it for the second time.
The spaniard laid back on the grass, absolutely exhausted from the ninety six minutes she had just endured. She looked around at all of her team mates, noticing the defeat and sadness in their eyes as they hugged one another. As she looked in the other direction though, she caught sight of the England girls with a much different expression on their faces. They all looked so unbelievably happy, tears shed out of happiness rather than sadness which was a huge contrast to the world cup.
She immediately caught sight of Lucy, never failing to be impressed by her ability to always pick her out instantly no matter how many people she was mixed in with. She looked happy, so happy, as she lifted Alex into the air and Ona couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
She hauled herself up off of the pitch, deciding it was best if she went over to console her team mates who had taken the loss particularly hard. Ona was gutted of course, she was as competitive as they came and wanted to win everything she took part in. However, seeing the joy on Lucy’s face eased the disappointment a pretty large amount, which was a fact she would definitely not be sharing with her girls.
Once she’d done the rounds, giving pats on the back and assuring the team that they did their best she caught sight of a shirtless Lucy standing in front of her. It was safe to say her mouth fell visibly agape as her eyes couldn’t decide whether to fix on the woman’s eyes or her abs.
“Im sorry.”
It sounded like a double meaning apology. For the coldness Lucy presented her with earlier, and also for the fact that her team had just beaten Ona’s. She decided to focus on the last part though, if her mind could possibly focus on anything other than the abs staring her right in the face.
She shrugged, “it’s okay, you all deserved it.”
“So did all of you though, you’re a hard team to beat.”
Ona smiled a little, enjoying the sight of the well-deserved gold medal that hung proudly around Lucy’s neck.
“This is for you.”
Lucy said as she chucked her match worn shirt into Ona’s hands.
The spaniard couldn’t help the smug smile that wiped across her face. Ever since the world cup final, Ona had held a pretend grudge against Lucy at the fact she gave Mariona her shirt and not her. Mariona and Lucy thought it was hilarious and would tease her about it all the time, but Ona could not for the life of her understand how she wasn’t the one trading shirts with her own girlfriend.
“Oh, you don’t want me to get Mario? So you can trade with her instead?”
Lucy smirked at her, letting out a huff of a laugh, “well actually, now you come to mention it-“
“Don’t you even dare.”
Ona interrupted, lightly slapping her on the chest.
She took her own shirt off then, handing it to Lucy as she replaced the Spanish jersey on her body with an England one, adorned with ‘Bronze 2’ on the back.
The wide eyed look on Lucy's face and the way she scanned her body up and down certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Ona. Who took it upon herself to give a small twirl so she could see the name on the back.
“Suits me?”
Lucy had to bite down on her own lip to physically stop herself from drooling. She had just won back to back euros, yet she felt like she’d well and truly hit the jackpot seeing the pretty spaniard with her name on her back.
She nodded and lightly took a hold of Ona’s arm, discreetly pulling her away from the pitch and down the tunnel away from prying eyes and cameras. Ona didn’t know what was happening, so when she was dragged into an empty medical room she looked at with a confused expression.
“Im sorry for how I acted with you earlier.”
Lucy blurted it out fast, as if she was scared if she didn’t say it soon enough Ona would be ripped away from her again.
“It’s okay, I understand. I didn’t give you an explanation last time and I am sorry for that.”
Ona looked up at Lucy, delicately intertwining their hands that were dangling by their sides. When she felt Lucy grip on tighter she stepped forward, further into her embrace and reached her other hand up to tilt her chin down to look her in the eye.
“I want to make this work. I thought I was doing the right thing by letting you go, but it is completely impossible to move on from you.”
Lucy pulled her impossibly closer as Ona carried on.
“I get it if I'm too late and you don’t want this but-“
The older woman decided she couldn’t wait any longer. She pressed her lips against Ona’s before she could even finish her sentence, the younger girl sighing happily into her mouth.
Ona reached both her arms up to wrap them around Lucy’s neck, interlinking them at the back to pull their bodies even closer. She let out a deep moan as the older woman pushed her further back against the wall, her strong hand sneaking up the England jersey Ona wore to scratch dully at her abs.
Ona parted her lips only slightly at the sensation, giving Lucy enough access to slide her tongue into her mouth. The room was filled with heavy breaths and pants, both women’s hands not being able to stop exploring the other's body as they had been deprived for so long.
Lucy finally managed to pull away from Ona’s mouth, but only to attach her lips to the inviting skin on her neck. She trailed hot, open mouthed kisses all the way up to her favourite spot behind her ear.
“I want this.”
She whispered, taking a tiny nip.
“I want you.”
Another kiss.
As the Englishwoman made her way back down to Ona’s jaw they were startled by the door swinging open, forcing them both apart and none other than Mariona walking in.
“Mierda! ¡Lo siento, chicas!”
She hurriedly said, hands covering her eyes.
“You can open your eyes, Mario.”
Lucy said with a chuckle as the Spanish woman slowly blinked one eye open to check it was safe before removing both of her hands entirely.
“You see Oni, I told you I knew everything! Oh and congratulations Lucy, I'll come and see you once you’re done…here!”
Mariona said before winking at Ona and exiting the room.
Ona let out a huff of a laugh, wrapping her arms tightly around Lucy’s waist as she lay her head on her chest.
“What was she on about?”
Lucy questioned, stroking her hands through Ona’s hair as she felt her grin against her chest.
“Oh, nada.”
She pulled her head out of Lucy’s chest, looking up at her with a look that could only be described as utter adoration.
“We are going to alright, aren’t we Lucia?”
“As long as we’ve got each other we’ll be fine, princesa.”

y/n felt sick. Keira was staring her and Mapi down and the three were sat in silence as Bagheera finished the left overs of Mapi and y/n's food.
"I cannot believe this." Keira sighs, running a hand down over her hair.
"Look Keira I know." y/n sighs and Keira looks at her phone before shaking her head.
"I have got to get back." Keira sighs, checking her phone as she stands up. Mapi grabs the food and takes it to the kitchen, y/n following Keira to the door where they step outside.
y/n lets out a long sigh, placing her head in her hands and Keira brings her in for a hug, running her hand down y/n's back calmingly as the girl panicked.
"I can see how happy you are with her." Keira admits and y/n nods. "You've made a mess of it by lying but I understand why." Keira admits.
"I just love her Keira. So much." y/n admits and Keira sighs, not sure who y/n was talking about.
"I know kiddo. I know." Keira promises.
The two then pull away and Keira sends her a stern look, y/n nodding in understanding that she was going to have to tell Lucy over the next few days.
"You have to tell her. Before she finds out." Keira tells her and y/n nods.
Keira then kisses her cheek and sets on her way home, y/n walking back into the room, Mapi waiting awkwardly in the entryway as y/n finally gets back in.
"What are we going to do Maps?" y/n asks her as the blonde pulls her in for a tight hug.
"Have sex?" Mapi suggests. y/n sighs but can't help but laugh.
"Mapi!" y/n chides, shaking her head at her girlfriend's teen boy attitude.
"I'm serious. I think better after." Mapi states and y/n snorts shaking her head as she looks at the woman who grins. "We will figure it out mi amor, we always do." Mapi promises.
"Okay." y/n nods.
"We can have sex?" Mapi grins and y/n laughs, but she can see the turn in Mapi's eyes as the blonde happily grabs her head and guides their lips together.
The two meet in a tangle of breathy moans and invading tongues, Mapi's hands guiding themselves carefully around y/n's body, knowing exactly where to squeeze to draw out the groans she adored.
The two tumbled into the bedroom, Mapi's kisses pressing down y/n's neck, nipping at her collarbone which brings y/n's chest up for a moment as she gasps.
Mapi threw y/n's top over her shoulder, the blonde deciding to wrry about washing later, her lips instead tracing a patter down and toward y/n's nipples which had pebbled to attention.
Mapi's lips enclosed around the right nipple, sucking at it as her teeth supplied a small amount of pressure around the bud. y/n groaned and her hands buried into Mapi's hair.
Mapi's tongue flicked at y/n's nipple repeatedly, making sure that the sensitive gasps coming from y/n were frequent before switching to the left breast.
Mapi knee comes to meet the gap between y/n's thighs, y/n moans as Mapi places pressure against her, the Spaniard moving her knee to rub directly against y/n's clit.
A gasp falls from y/n's throat as Mapi pulls her pants and underwear from her, the blonde desperate to taste her lover which she wastes no time doing.
Mapi's tongue runs up between y/n's lips, tasting the wet arousal which coated her pussy and y/n lets out a moan as her head clouds over.
Mapi's mouth was always something y/n couldn't get over, her fingers, her tongue, she could make y/n feel things she never thought possible and make noises which were almost feral.
"Maps. Jesus." y/n groaned out as Mapi's tongue lapped at her seeping hole, the woman's hands gripping at her hips to keep her still.
It seemed laughable, how worried y/n was minutes ago about her sister finding out and the way the air was thick with sex now, the entire feel of the apartment had changed in moments.
y/n moaned out, Mapi's hands gripping harder as y/n's hands rested over Mapi's, the feeling of the woman's tongue between her walls making her gush as Mapi slowly pushed in and out with her tongue.
y/n whined the slowly developing knot in her stomach causing sweat to form on her forehead and rising chest. Mapi pulled her tongue from her, returning to circling her throbbing clit as she slid a hand from underneath y/n's.
Slowly Mapi continued her tongues strokes as a finger slowly poked in, pushing up between the spongey walls of y/n which practically sucked the digit inside.
Mapi moved her finger slowly, pushing a second one in, y/n moaning out as her head moved back. Mapi was slow with her movements, eyes watching y/n with dark arousal.
y/n moaned again, Mapi curing her fingers as she smiled against y/n's clit, letting her teeth graze the throbbing bud which caused y/n's chest to stutter.
Mapi continued her fingers slow, long stroking movements, and y/n's stomach spasmed, her orgasm washing over her before she could speak out.
No moans left her as her mouth remained open in shock, breaths escaping her as Mapi kept her fingers inside, knowing having them in her would help y/n as she worked her down.
Once y/n had regained a space of consciousness Mapi was next to her, watching her with a soft grin, lips red and plump as she stroked y/n's hair lovingly.
y/n leant up, pressing their lips together as her hand reached down towards Mapi's joggers, but the Spaniard stopped her with a gentle grip.
"No Mi Amor, just lay with me for now." Mapi said softly. y/n smiled leaning against Mapi's now bare shoulder, knowing the dirty blonde preferred bare skin on skin contact.
It was just another reason y/n loved her relationship with Mapi so much, they didn't both need to give and receive during sex, Mapi found eating her out just as satisfying as being eaten out.
y/n had never been with someone so attentive, so caring and someone who didn't need something in return for the pleasurable act she would commit.
"I love you Mapi." y/n said softly, hands linked together as she pressed a soft kiss against the tattoo on her neck.
"I love you too." Mapi promises her, before pressing a long kiss to her forehead.

The next day, Mapi and y/n arrived to their final training session before Athletico, Lucy was getting out of her car with Keira and did a double take when she saw y/n and Mapi get out of the same car.
y/n ignored her sister, instead hugging Ona who sent her and Mapi a wide eyed look of shock as the three walked in together, Keira winced as Lucy's eyes narrowed.
"What the... why is y/n getting a lift with Mapi?" Lucy asked and Keira sighed shrugging.
Lucy pushed from Keira, following after the trio but furrowed her brows when she saw Mapi talking with Alexia, and y/n and Ona giggling at the lockers.
"So, why did you arrive with Mapi?" Lucy asks y/n sliding next to her.
"Oh, she picked me up this morning." y/n shrugged and tried not to wince as Keira let out a sigh. "Can I talk to you later?" y/n asked Lucy who nodded, worry in her eyes.
"Yeah, of course squirt." Lucy says, pressing a kiss to y/n's forehead before going to change. Keira sends y/n a nod and the girl sighs running out to training.
y/n felt as if she could hardly focus the next two hours. Her passes were sloppy, her movements sudden and late, because the only thing which had filled her body was guilt.
Mapi had noticed and as everyone trudged to lunch y/n found herself pulled into an empty physio room with her girlfriend watching her concerned.
"¿Qué te pasa bebé?" Mapi asks, hands cupping y/n's face.
What is the matter baby?
"I can't even look at her Maps. God, I feel sick." y/n admits softly, eyes filling with tears which instantly Mapi bent down to kiss away.
Just as the blonde's lips touched y/n's in the hope to calm her guilt the two were ripped apart, a blur of brown hair pushing Mapi back, two people shouting to pull her back.
"The fuck Leon!" Lucy shouts and y/n's heart could have stopped in that moment. Bile rose in her throat and fear shook her bones.
"Lucy." y/n tries, looking back at Ona and Keira who were trying to pull her away.
Lucy however pulled away from them and jumped at Mapi, anger clear on her face as she shoved the blonde harshly into the wall behind her.
Mapi tried to push back, though it was weakly done and y/n jumped in front of the blonde, fear gripping her as Lucy stopped her actions, shoulders tensed and jaw twitching.
"y/n move." Lucy ordered but y/n's head shook. "Move." Lucy demanded again.
"Luce, it wasn't what it looked like." y/n began and Lucy scoffed, Keira moving next to her.
"It looked like Leon was putting moves on my baby sister." Lucy huffs and y/n bites at her lip.
"Well, I'm her girlfriend so I think that's allowed." y/n says, biting the bullet as Lucy pauses, looking between the two.
"No." Lucy says and y/n pauses furrowing her brows.
"You can't just say no." y/n denies as Mapi comes to stand next to her.
"Yes I can." Lucy nods. "She's 28." Lucy adds.
"Same difference as you and Kei." y/n says and Lucy shakes her head.
"It's not the same." Lucy denies and y/n scoffs and she looks at Mapi. "So, you're with my sister, my baby sister? She's 22 fucking years old." Lucy rants at her.
"I have loved her the second I met her Lucia." Mapi denies and Lucy scoffs, throwing her hands up.
"How long have these hookups been happening?" Lucy demands angrily.
"We've been together nine months." y/n tells her calmly and Lucy's eyes widen.
"9 months?" She asks softly.
"Lucy. Look at how you reacted, how could I tell you?" y/n asks her.
Lucy however was looking at her hands, before looking over at Ona who clearly was not shocked, and she scoffed shaking her head as she turned on her heel.
"Luce." y/n tries but Lucy shakes her head.
"Don't." Lucy denies. "Just don't." She sighs but y/n follows her into the corridor.
"We have to talk about this Lucy." y/n tries and Lucy shakes her head.
"She's too old for you." Lucy says angrily.
"No I am not." Mapi denies.
"Stay out of this!" Lucy snaps at her. "You lied, you have hardly ever lied to me like this." Lucy says to her sister. "How can we talk about this?" She asks.
"Because I need you to understand." y/n tries.
"But I don't!" Lucy yells. "You're my baby sister and now all I know is that you have lied to me for what? For a series of hookups that won't last?" Lucy asks her sister.
"Lucia." Mapi warns, anger in her voice.
"She's fucking 22!" Lucy yells.
"Old enough to make her own decisions!" Mapi defends back.
"But I won't let her make the same mistakes!" Lucy shouts back and y/n can feel her heart hammering.
"But I haven't, not with Mapi." y/n promises her but Lucy just scoffs.
"Even so, you then lied about it." Lucy practically spits at her sister who lets out a small sob, tears in her eyes as she always hated fighting with Lucy. "Don't you dare cry." Lucy denies.
"Lucy please." y/n tries, though her voice had cracked.
"No you want to be an adult, you be one, you don't cry and look me in the eyes and tell me the 9 months worth of lies were worth it. That our trust was worth this." Lucy hisses.
y/n gulped, because it wasn't, nothing would ever be worth Lucy to her, but this Lucy, the overprotective and cruel angry Lucy, yes, Mapi was worth that.
"Yes, it was worth it." y/n says, eyes meeting Lucy's with a stone filled security that made Mapi take her hand and Lucy scoffs.
"You make me sick." Lucy denies and Keira sighs.
"Lucy." She chides just as Alexia rounds the corner, confusion in her eyes before she sees the current predicament and pauses.
"Are we all okay?" Alexia asks as Lucy scoffs and grabs her bag and walks toward the door. "Lucia?" Alexia asks.
But Lucy doesn't answer, she just leaves the front doors and everyone can hear her car drive off and y/n turns from Alexia, trying to get her breathing together.
"The worst part is over chica." Alexia says softly but y/n shakes her head.
"Oh no Alexia. It has only just begun." y/n warns her before she walks away, needing to cry in peace, because her sister had just left training half-way through because y/n had been selfish enough to break their relationship.
Though as she looked down at the doodle of biro from Mapi which had been yet to wash off from last night, she didn't regret it, only the outcome.
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
The changing room of Barcelona was tense, everyone could feel it. The Bronze sister's hadn't looked at each other, Lucy had hardly spoke and they sat as far apart as possible.
The anger that Lucy had was clear and Alexia was stood next to y/n awkwardly, she had not realised the true extent of Lucy's anger when y/n had warned her.
Lucy had blanked her sister when she walked in, Mapi too for that matter. She kept her head down and when y/n tried to speak to her, Lucy simply moved past her.
Mapi and Ona were sharing worried looks, they had never seen y/n so tired and broken, her hands were shaking, her eyes were red. But as they moved into the tunnel to walk out after a warm up, both Spanish girls noticed the sisters.
They both rolled their shoulders back and Ingrid let out a small gasp of shock as they ignored their usual good-luck ritualistic handshake - this being the first time any of the Barcelona girls or Keira could remember they hadn't done it.
But both sister's looked dead on at the front and ignored their superstition of things going wrong if they didn't do it. They walked out, they shook hands, they got ready.
Lucy looked back at her younger sister, for just a moment, but as she saw her sunken sister anger overtook her when she noticed Mapi standing closer than necessary.
The whistle blew and everyone set off, Barcelona taking the lead minutes in due to Salma. Only a few more minutes in did y/n make her mark, slamming the ball into the back of the net.
Keira cheered wrapping her in a hug as the team surrounded her, patting her back, Lucy stayed away, not caring about the confused noises coming from the crowd at the lack of sisterly reaction.
Mapi grinned at y/n, patting her lower back as she ran back with a wink, for a second y/n forgot her fight with Lucy, just Mapi's smile making her grin, but as she turned her eyes caught Lucy's and her smile dropped.
The game continued for more minutes, half-time creeping up on them until it was only minutes away. That is when y/n heard the feared call of her name from Lucy.
The next thing she knew was that a hand had her ponytail bunched up, and she was being pulled to the ground. y/n let out a shout of shock as a force came down on her head.
The man over her was pushing himself closer, apologising for his rough hands in Spanish as he tried to beg her to love him. y/n shouted in fear as she pushed against him, his hand coming to slap her.
y/n's body sags unconscious as Mapi is the first over, everything happening so quickly as the Spaniard pulls the man off of her lover and shoves him violently away.
The guards finally do their job and manage to push the man down as Mapi and the Barcelona girls form a circle around y/n. Mapi has her on her own lap, running a hand through her hair as she whispers in Spanish.
Lucy pauses, a sick feeling in her stomach as the medics arrive, y/n only just coming too but refusing to let go of Mapi. Alexia tries to help but Mapi just warns her off with an angry glare.
"Don't leave me." y/n whispers to Mapi and the blonde presses a kiss to her forehead - not caring about who would see and if Lucy would care.
"I won't. I promise." Mapi says to her, y/n closing her eyes as the light hurt her head. Mapi followed the medics, Jonatan trying for a moment to keep her on but the blonde ignored him and just walked off, dealing with the consequences later in her mind.
Lucy's eyes followed her sister's body and Mapi until they were out of sight, Alexia sighed and placed a hand on Lucy's shoulder as the referee called for a five minute drinks break to settle the emotions.
"She'll be okay." Alexia promises Lucy.
"She asked for Mapi." Lucy says sadly. "And Mapi was already there." She adds.
"As far as she knows, you're not talking to her." Alexia tells Lucy who sighs and nods.
"I wasn't. And now I feel terrible." Lucy sighs as she takes a swig of her drink.
"After the game, just see her, that will make her happier." Alexia promises Lucy who nods. "She was frightened of telling you Lucia, because she loves you so much she didn't want to hurt you." Alexia explains.
"I know. I just can't believe she hid it for nine months." Lucy sighs.
"But you need to ask why did she hide it for nine months?" Alexia explains and Lucy pauses before sighing and rubbing a hand over her face.
"This is too deep for me, my head hurts." She sighs and Alexia chuckles as they are called back on pitch, but Lucy can't help but look back at the tunnel, worry in her heart.

amnesia - part 2 (ona batlle x reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're released from hospital in the hopes that returning home will help some of your memories return. Part 1 here!
warnings: angst, hospitals, memory loss
a/n: sorry to everyone who just wanted a happy ending... you're not getting it just yet x
-----------
You stayed in the hospital for a week after waking up. Every day, Ona and Alexia would be there. Sometimes other teammates would join - teammates whose names and faces you couldn’t recall, but when you’d hear their voice you suddenly remembered their favourite food, without knowing who they were.
Things like that gave Ona hope. Hope that you would remember your life together before the accident.
Every day she arrived with bright eyes, eager to see if you remembered anything, remembered her, but every day you greeted her with a friendly but somewhat vacant smile, like you weren’t sure what to make of her yet. And you weren’t. You couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, that there was something she wasn’t telling you. She seemed way too concerned about you to just be your best friend, but why would she lie?
Alexia asked her the same thing.
“You should tell her the truth,” the captain said, arms folded. “It’s not fair to her.”
“I don’t want to overwhelm her,” Ona protested. Part of her was hoping desperately that you would remember her, that she wouldn’t have to tell you, that your relationship was important enough to break through the amnesia clouding your mind.
She was also desperately hoping she wouldn’t have to tell you that she was the reason you had been in the accident at all.
“I think you should tell her.”
“Yes, I’ve understood that, thank you,” Ona snapped, and left Alexia standing outside your room without a second glance.
Alexia sighed. She didn’t want to overstep. It was something she’d been careful about since you arrived in Barcelona. She’d been quick to push down any feelings she had towards you, reminding herself time and time again that she couldn’t act on them, it wasn’t right, she was your captain. And when you and Ona started dating a little over 6 months ago, well, she was even more determined to squash any feelings she had for you.
Fixing her face into a smile, she walked into your room. Ona barely glanced at her as she came in, focused on you.
“Did you remember anything new?” Ona asked you.
“Not really, no,” you said, shaking your head. “Some stuff about my parents.”
“Ah,” she winced. You didn’t have a big family, you were an only child, so it was just you and your parents. You didn’t have a good relationship with them, you never had. They didn’t care about your football, and there were countless times that you’d been driven to and from training by your friends’ parents, or even by your coaches. It made sense that they hadn’t bothered coming to Barcelona after your accident.
“Yeah,” you shrugged.
“What about football?” Alexia asked. Talking about football seemed to help, and it at least made you smile.
“I remember more about playing!” you said, sitting up excitedly. “I remember being on the pitch, how it feels to kick the ball. I miss it.”
All three of you looked at your right leg. It had been operated on when you were still in a coma, but the doctors had put a cast on it for the time being, and you had strict orders not to put any weight on it for at least 2 weeks. It wasn’t just your leg that was the problem - being in a coma for 15 days had made your body weak, weaker than you would have thought. Playing football was out of the question, at least for the foreseeable future.
“Oh, they said I can go home on Friday, by the way,” you told them. “They said something about memories coming back, I think? The doctor couldn’t think of the word in English, but I think she was saying that there’s a good chance a lot of my memories will come back when I’m in a familiar environment. But if that doesn’t happen it’s okay too.”
“Excelente!” Alexia beamed. “We will be here to pick you up.”
You were trying not to get your hopes up too much, but you really, really hoped that going home would help bring back some of your memories. You didn’t even know what ‘home’ was, what it looked like, where it was. The girls had shown you some pictures, also hoping to trigger some locked away memory, but none of it helped. Nothing felt familiar.
On Friday, Alexia and Ona spoke to the doctor in rapid Spanish. You’d been told that you had been learning it before the accident, that you’d started when you moved to Barcelona over a year and a half ago, but now you couldn’t remember any of it.
As they wheeled you out of the hospital, crutches on your lap, Ona explained what the doctor had said.
“For now you have to rest, and next Friday you have an appointment to take the cast off. After that you’ll have physiotherapy four times a week, and occupational therapy twice a week. The hospital also recommended you see a psychiatrist to deal with the trauma of the accident and losing your memories,” she said with a slight wince.
You nodded. “That makes sense.”
The drive home was quiet. You spent it looking out of the window, feeling as though you were seeing everything for the first time, but also with a strange sense of déjà vu. You didn’t like the combination. It felt wrong.
When the car approached an apartment building and slowed to a halt, you expected some kind of familiarity, for your memories to come flooding back, but nothing happened. The building was unremarkable, nothing about it said ‘home’ to you.
The two women watched your reaction, first hopefully, then subdued as they realised you didn’t recognise it.
“Come on,” Alexia said, opening the car door. “Let’s go inside. Maybe that’ll be better.”
You studied your apartment door for a moment before unlocking it, waiting to see if it triggered anything. When nothing happened, you pushed the door open, taking a deep breath. The hallway of your apartment was light and airy, tidier than you’d been expecting, for some reason.
“Am I usually this tidy?” you asked, turning to look at Ona.
She snorted. “No, not really. But you don’t spend that much time here, you’re usually at m- um, at training, or at somebody’s house.”
A crease formed between her eyebrows as she frowned slightly, but it vanished almost as quickly as it had appeared. You hobbled inside, taking in the pictures and trinkets on the walls of the living room. There was a corkboard full of photos and memorabilia, and next to it was a framed jersey with your name on it.
“I remember that!” you exclaimed, your mind flooded with images and emotions. “That’s from my first international game! That’s when I made my debut! I remember walking onto the pitch and feeling so proud, and so nervous, and so, so excited.”
Alexia and Ona grinned in unison at your outburst, elated that you’d remembered something else and that being home amongst your things was working, at least a little.
You leant in closer to look at the corkboard, taking in all of the pictures. There was one of the whole Barcelona team, a couple selfies you’d taken with some of your teammates, photos of a group of you on a boat somewhere. There were some photos of you and Alexia, and some of you, Alexia and Ona. And there were a lot of pictures of just you and Ona. In fact, around half of them were of you and Ona - selfies, pictures other people had taken of you, pictures of just Ona where you had the distinct feeling that you’d taken them, though you didn’t know why.
Examining them closer, you realised that in a lot of them, the two of you were close, closer than you’d been expecting of someone who was just your best friend. Pictures of the two of you cuddled into each other, your head buried in her neck, pictures where her hand was on your thigh or your arm was wrapped tightly around her waist.
Pictures of the two of you kissing.
“What are these pictures?” you asked, turning to look at Ona. Her eyes were wide, lips parted, and you pushed down the sudden urge to kiss her. “Ona? What’s going on?”

façade - ona batlle x reader
genre: comfort, period pain, angst? fluff? idk
warnings: none
(requested)
____________________________________________
what was intended to be a leisurely morning sleep-in for you, was abruptly interrupted by the sound of soft sniffling beside you. ona lay curled up, facing away, silent sobs escaping her.
you were instantly washed with overwhelming surge of concern. ona wasn’t one to cry often, but when she did, it tugged at the string of your heart making it ache.
“ona, sweet, what’s wrong?” you reached out, brushing your fingers over your girlfriends bare shoulder, in an attempt to comfort her. she flinched slightly at the sound of your voice. “talk to me, baby.”
ona was startled by the fact you were awake, hastily using her hands to wipe away her cascading tears.
“it’s nothing, just a nightmare,” she muttered, her voice strained, indicating she had been crying for a while, “i’m fine, go back to sleep, cariño.”
“oh ona, do you want to talk about it?” you gently suggested, snuggling closer behind her to spoon her curled body.
“no, i told you it’s nothing, yn,” her voice was laced with frustration, pain and dejection.
when she shuffled away from your close proximity you knew something was amiss. ona didn’t usually act this way, especially towards you of all people. you could sense the façade, so you persisted.
“baby, you don’t have to pretend. what’s really going on? hmm?”
a heavy pause hung in the air before ona reluctantly begun to reply.
“i-“
before she could finish her sentence, her throat betrayed her, and she began to cry loudly. she turned around to face you, burying her face her your neck, arms desperately clinging onto you.
“shhh,” you whispered, carefully threading your fingers through her soft hair, “you’re okay, sweetheart. are you in any pain?”
you could feel her head move up and down in a nodding motion despite not looking at her face-on. in an act of worry, you pushed her off your body and held onto her shoulders. your eyes scanned ona’s tear-stained face for any source of the pain she agreed she had. but with a quick checking, from her face down to her arms and body, there was nothing displaying a visible injury. you cupped her warm cheeks and used the pads of your thumbs to smear the remnants of tears trickling from her eyes.
“where does it hurt, mi amor?”
the use of the spanish pet name made ona’s heart melt - the way you used her mother tongue to make her feel the slightest more comfortable in any way possible.
“i’m bleeding in my- i don’t- i forget what it’s called in english,” she winced apologetically at her attempt to explain in english, “it hurts more today.”
you chuckled softly at her spanglish accent and the way stopped to pause when trying to explain. but you let understanding dawn on to your face so she understood you weren’t making fun of her.
“your period?” you asked quietly, with a ‘oh yeah, mhm,’ you offered a comforting embrace, holding her close and pressing soft kisses to her neck.
“ona, you know don’t have to keep that to yourself, when you’re in pain i want you to tell me, okay?”
she looked at you, eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and vulnerability.
“i don’t like it when you see me like this. i don’t like being weak.”
“you’re not weak, ona,” you consoled, brushing the hair away from her face and tucking in behind her ears, “you’re not alone and you know i care about you, no matter what.”
ona, despite the reassurance, found it difficult to shake off the shame. she’d never experienced such intense menstrual pains, especially since being in a relationship with you.
“i hate feeling helpless and emotional. it makes me frustrated.”
“its okay to feel that way, baby,” you looked at her in the eyes to meet her gaze; her doe eyes staring directly into yours, “im here for you, ona. i love you.”
with a sweet, or you’d say slightly salty kiss to your lips, ona pulled away, “te queiro mucho, bebé.”
after retucking her into bed, placing a hot heat pack on her stomach and putting a glass of water on her side of the bedside table, you pressed a kiss to her forehead.
“comfy?” you asked, she nodded, “i’m going to call jona and let him know your not going to training today, okay?”
she nodded.
“cuddle?” she asked, smiling sheepishly.
“and then cuddles, of course.”

Love and War (Lucy Bronze x Ona Battle x Reader)
Tumblr media
Warning: Swearing, Angst, Fluff and Smut
Request: "PLEASE can we have a threesome with one batlle and lucy MF BRONZE. please omg I'm so done bad. Like poly relationship and shit "
"L/N on the ball, gets past Battle. Leon on their tail. GETS PAST BRONZE! L/N TO WIN!!! GOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLLL. REAL MADRID SCORE AT THE CAMP NOU WITH SECONDS LEFT"
Your heart was racing, you were running to the craized cheers of the Madrid faithful and jumped into the crowd. You let emotion take over you and celebrate. Kids, Men and Women all hearing your name as your found yourself being carried out and dog piddled by your teammates. Them praising you
*WHISTLE BLOWS*
"Unbelievable scenes here. 2-0 to Barcelona at halftime only for the super sub F/N L/N to score the Hat Trick and snap the unbeaten streak of Barcelona Femeni. The Barcelona players cleary upset with the loss but we can't underrate the fire that L/N and the Madrid gave in the second half.
As you stood up alongside Oroz who gave you a peck in the top of your head as you went to shake hands with your rivals, you saw Alexia walk up to you "Good game, we will make you pay next time" She ruffled your hair. She clearly was upset with the lost but you two had a good friendship going since you got together with Ona and Lucy. Speaking of which you see Lucy sitting on the ball as Ona talked to her clearly mad about the defeat. You approached the duo, you loved them but come on. You were gonna rub this in thier face later. You squat down next to them "Hey good game girls, you were tough as always" you say trying to lighten the mood. Ona looked at you with a concerned smile as Lucy kept her head down. "See you at home L/N" that's not good. She got up and walked off. "Get home safe amor" Ona said quietly before chasing Lucy.
You knew Lucy hated losing. The fact she called you by your last name hurt and pissed you off. She has beaten you before and you never reacted like that even if you mad as hell. You shook you head before walking towards Mapi Leon and embraced your long time frienemy.
Lucy was fuming, She lost, She was the last line of defence and still let the ball passed her. Lost at the Camp nou, Lost to Real Fucking Madrid. Of the teams that could of beat them it was them!. They Lost because of you!. The image if your face flashed in her mind as she made her way back to the locker room. Your beautiful face. She loved waking up to it in the morning and falling a sleeping staring into your eyes. But she can't help but want to punch you right now. She wouldn't but it was how she felt.
Ona was worried. Lucy was silent with a noticeable scowl on her face. The last time Lucy lost a game was the World Cup final and she didn't treat Ona like this. In fact the roles of you and Ona were swapped, Yours and Lucy's team lost and you didn't treat Ona like this, well she thought. She didnt know why this lost hurt lucy more then the finals. Sure Ona was fustrated but thats the game and all three of you were in a relationship you would think Lucy wouldnt be mad that her partner won a match. She'walked besides her as they entered the locker room hoping she cooled down.....
Much later that night back at Lucy's house, Lucy was still in the same mood. Ona had watched her pace back and forth. Ona was waiting for you to arrive as you promised the girls you have one or two drinks to celebrate. "Lucy, my love but please sit down, it's annoying when you pacing back and forth" Lucy with her hand on her hips sighed before sitting down on the couch. "Where are they?" Lucy said cleary irritated. "They should be-"
*Door key noises*
The duo turned to the door to see the handle pushed down and open to reveal you still in your Madrid top and for you to see them still in thiers. "Hola my lovlies" you say before shutting the door and making your way to Lucy and got ready to sit next to her. You though wrong as you went to sit down "Don't touch me" She got up with a annoyed face, as you stopped on the couch with one knee on it and standing with the other leg "Excuse me?"
"You heard me L/N" She said crossing her arms at you. You gave her a suprised lock before glaring. Again with the last name "What is your problem Bronze" Her annoyed face shifted as you said her last name. "You are my problem, you don't talk to us for 3 days and then come up to us and act like nothing is wrong?" You gave her a raised eyebrow "You do realise we are involved in the of the biggest rivalries in history right? We did the same thing last time aswell. We cut contact so we could focus. So I will ask again" You step infront of Lucy. You staring into her soul "What. Is. Your. Problem........Bronze" You said in a tone neither of the girls have heard before. Lucy kept a straight face but didnt want to admit her bitterness. Ona would stand in between as soon as you mention her last name again and feeling the tension "Ok OK that's enough. We all had a tiring day. Let's relax and getting some rest" She said trying to defuse the situation. You backed up as Ona turned to Lucy "Calm down ok?" She would ask the Lioness.
"Oh of course you would bloody check on her first" You threw you hands in the air as you turned and walked to the kitchen. This time it was Ona and Lucy's turned to have confused faces. The duo followed you "What do you mean by that?" Ona would say. "Oh come on, anytime something happens that involves me and Lucy, you go to her first and treat me like an after thought." Ona looked at Lucy before back at you. Lucy was trying to recount these supposed events you mentioned. "I love both of you Y/N, equally. I always try to get to both of you when some-"
You lifted a middle finger that caught both of them off, even Lucy eyebrows raised "One. When yours truly was kicked in the by Caldentey and was semi conscious, you two were two busy protesting rather to check on me." The duo looked down, that was at the start of the relationship and it was something they regretted and hoped that it didn't hurt you but you broke that hope. "Nope you were too busy trying to convince the ref it wasn't a foul"
You held up your index finger giving them the classic two fingers. "Two. Last week when you beat my team, did either of you come up to me and say anything or shake my hand" Ona sighed and Lucy was uncomfortable "Nope, you both celebrate shook a few hands and went out to celebrate. Ignoring my texts and calls and left me alone outside until I had to walk home an sleep worrying that you two didn't get home safe" Ona was now scratching her arm, she knew that the action of that would send you paranoid and she didn't want you to think like that. It was for that reason she gave you keys to her and Lucy's house. Lucy had her hands in her pockets, she felt horrible because she would always insist that you call or text her if you needed anything and the one time you did, she wasn't there. Feeling the remorse she approached you"F/N. I'm so so-"
"Three" you cut her off as you held up a third finger and taking a swig of the beer you had opened when you entered the kitchen. Your attention fully on Ona"Back in Australia. When we lost. When me and Lucy were down. Who did you go to?"
"Lucy" She said quietly, you nodded "of course I'm not saying Lucy didn't need the comfort but when did you come to me?" You said in a innocent voice. Guilt and a sick feeling built up in her gut.
"I didn't" You smiled " Thank you." You then looked at Lucy before taking a swig if beer "And you, you said you would be there for me" You slowly step towards her "I can forgive being excited about a win and getting caught up in the fun or getting caught up in the heat of the game." You said your voice now in a tone that could be described as you are regretting your actions and even though I am pissed, I'm loving it. You stepped again "When my world was shattered and I felt like shit feeling the world watch me cry. And countless teammates and Spaniards were trying to comfort me and I saw my two girlfriends smiling at each other." You stood nose to nose with Lucy. Who calm demeanor showed signs of breaking "When we stood shoulder to shoulder and watch Ona lift the cup. What did you say" Lucy felt nauseous, one of the biggest regres in her life was what she said to you. Ona was uncomfortable and scared at the thought of whag Lucy did "What"
"Did"
"You"
"Say"
"To"
"Me"
Lucy breathed in "I said"
"We would of won if Keira was on the pitch instead of you"
Ona jaw hung low at the confession. Lucy's tried to remain calm shook her head cleary disgusted with letting her anger get the best of you. You put your drink down.
"And you are telling me, That even though I can handle all that shit that has happened. That you can't handle one fucking loss to me?" Lucy looked ashamed before you looked towards Ona who looked at Lucy with shook before locking eyes with you. "Do you think I'm in the wrong for being pissed off" She looked down and shook her head.
You walked past the duo and headed out of the Kitchen but stopped "Anyone else would leave you two if they were me you know" the two looked at you with worry "But I love you two so much that, that if I did leave. It would hurt more then the 3 reasons I just stated, combined.
You headed to the bedroom Leaving the duo, you felt light headed. Was that the right thing to say. You let months of anger out on them even if you felt justified you still didn't like to see them hurt, you took off your trousers and threw them across the room then proceeded to look for a pair of shirts to put so you could sleep. You found a old pair of England shorts and put them on before going to bed, hoping the next day wouldn't be as bad. You layed battling the emotions that were making you tired, You expressed your feelings but it left a worrying thought that you may have hurt your partners deeply with you words and attitude.
Lucy felt Ona's eyes burning into her head. Not only did Ona have to listen to someone she loves became angry and hurt, a side of you she or Lucy have never seen before but she finds out what Lucy said to you. Lucy felt sick ever since she said that, as soon as those words left her mouth she wanted to apologise and hold you close but was Stubborn. In her anger and looking for someone to blame, you were the closest and the reason at the time. She knew that you were scared of replacing Keira not on the pitch as a partner. You worried about living up to Lucy's standards after she been in a long relationship with your teammate. Her knowing this she decided to use it as ammo in the moment and hit the target. She felt a growing sense of regret for her words and actions. She knew she had taken her anger out on you unfairly then and now. Her stubbornness in the heat of the moment had caused unnecessary pain. The thought of you leaving them had struck her hard and it was a wake up call to revaluate her behaviour.
Ona, who was caught in the middle of the fight, couldn't ignore the rift that had developed between you and Lucy. She loved both of you deeply and wanted nothing more than to see harmony in your relationship. The fact that you had revealed your hurt and frustration was both eye opening and heart breaking for her. She realized that she needed to step up her game in terms of being there for you. She loved you deeply and she couldn't bear to see you hurt, especially when it was because of her negligence. She knew she had to make an effort to be more attentive and supportive in the future.
Lucy sat down in the living room couch, leaning forward with her hands together. Ona was sat next to her resting her head on Lucy shoulder. "I'm such a fucking idiot" Lucy said in a broken voice "Out of all the things I should have said. I said that." Lucy spoke with great disappointment in herself, She felt Ona rub her arm "And tonight i hurt them again" She buried face in her hands. "You are right, we should of been there more. We should of been celebrating now, but we ruin F/N's moment with this Lucia" Ona said in a ashamed voice as Lucy began fight back emotions. "What if they want to leave? I don't know how i can fix this." Ona now sat up and hugged the Lionesses side.
"Listen to me, Y/N loves us deeply. They have shown that countless times. I don't think they want to leave. Like they said leaving us would hurt them more then anything." Ona cupped Lucy cheeks "Lucia, F/N is strong, but they are a human and humans can only take so much before snapping. We just need to be there for F/N when they are ready" Lucy looked into the women's eyes "Maybe its because there are three of us in a relationship, It means more commitment and love from each other. We expect more from each other. We should be supportive, especially when one of us succeeds, just as we comfort each other in defeat." Lucy held back her tears hearing Ona speak like this made her captivated before closing the distance and kissing Ona, who responded back before pulling apart and resting each others head against each other.
Lucy sighed "You're right, Ona. I need to apologize to Y/N and make things right." Ona smiled "We, We need to apologise" Lucy gave a sad smile. "We need to let Y/N know that we love them and we're here to support and understand each other, no matter what Lucia."
You open your eyes slowly feeling something run through your hair and something playing with your hand. As the blurring vision cleared you saw Ona laying next to you playing with you hand "Morning amor" You looked up to see Lucy playing with your hair "Hey sleepyhead" You felt so happy that your girls were still there but still felt sad you may have hurt them "How was your sleep?" Ona asked kissing your hand, you glance at the window. Still dark must be early in the morning"Honestly, Nice" You gave a blunt response making the duo know you were still hurt. You felt Lucy move beside you and cupped your cheeks "Y/N," she said, her voice filled with sincerity and remorse, "I'm so sorry for what I said and how I acted last night. It was unfair, and it was a terrible way to treat you after winning the game. And for what i said at the World Cup that was sick of me to say. Please forgive me. I love you, and I never want to hurt you like that again." For the first time you saw Lucy looking like a lost puppy. She looked distraught after speaking and was waiting for a reply from you.
You felt a hand on your shoulder "Y/N," Ona began, "I apologize as well for not being there when you needed me. You're right, I should have checked on you during the World Cup. I promise to be more attentive in the future." You heard the honesty in her voice. She said it with clear passion in her voice. You looked back at Lucy who looked like she was going to cry a storm. It was clear the aftermath of last night was a wake up call to the girls. Your heart ached with a mix of emotions as you couldn't bear it anymore. You one arm each of Lucy and Ona pulling them into embrace, Ona gladly accepting, Lucy accepting and holding you in a tight grip. "I love you two." You felt Lucy soften" And I forgive you" Lucy started to slowly cry into you shoulder as Ona rubbed her back and you place a hand on the back of your head. It felt like hours you guys sat there just holding one another.
As the embrace broke. Lucy wiped her eyes as you pushed the strands of her hair out of her face, You loved it when her hair was down. Ona rested her head on your shoulder. You noticed both still had there Barca shirts on. They clearly didn't change. "Y/N, you were absolutely incredible last night," Lucy beamed, her eyes filled with admiration. "I've never seen someone turn a game around like that. You're amazing." You smiled sheepishly as Ona chimed in "Yes, you were the hero of El Classico. You made us so proud amor. You couldn't help but blush at their compliments, feeling their love and support wash over you. It was moments like these that reminded you why you cherished your relationship with them so much.
You felt Lucy's fingers graze your your thigh, giving you slight shivers. Her eyes turned evil. "But i must say" She leaned in pecking you jaw line before whispering "You may be wearing a Madrid top but you are Barca property" She said as she started to peck you neck. You felt a shiver shoot up your spine. Lucy knew how to make you submit to her advances. You tried to respond but her pecks made you stammer Ona couldn't help but chuckle at the exchange. She knew how much Lucy's teasing affected you, and she enjoyed the playful banter between the two of you. She leaned in and whispered, "Lucy's right, you did look stunning in that jersey. But don't forget who owns you. okay?" Ona then decided you attack the over side of your neck sending you into euphoria. You breath was caught in your throat as the two made break as you gave a audible moan. Lucy smirked but notice Ona.
The Lionesses grip the back of Ona hair and pulled her away from you "Did i say to do that?" You bit your lip as your favourite side of Lucy came up. Ona whilst Lucy was holding her hair gave Lucy a smirk that screamed brat. You then felt Lucy grip your jaw and aggressively kiss you and you responded lucy didn't even have to try you let her tongue overpower you within seconds. You faintly hear Ona chuckle before Lucy stopped and let go of Ona and pushed you onto bed like a Lion finding its prey and used her teeth to mark you. The intensity made you gasp with pleasure as a wetness form between your legs. As you let Lucy clam your neck Ona layed next to you, She loved to Lucy make you hers. She was like a hyena, she would try and try to have a bite of Lucy's food and pick off the left overs.
"Papi" You moaned as Lucy responded by licking your neck and gripping you jaw making her stare at you "Say it pup" she growled you as you feel her hand roam under your shirt
"Say it"
*Smut Incoming*
"Fuck me Papi" you said in a submissive voice as Lucy's smirked with fire in her eyes.. She lifted your Madrid top over you head and held it against you wrists and held your wrists with one hand above your head. You couldn't see clearly through the sheet and excitement ran throughout your body. You loved being Lucy's plaything. You heard lips smacking, knowing Lucy she is marking Ona's neck. "Do it brat" You heard Lucy say calling Ona a brat. But all of a sudden you feel a wet sensation on your left nipple making you gasp and arch up. you legs rubbing against each other as you moaned. "Good Girl" you hear Lucy say through your moans. You couldn't concentrate feeling Ona tongue flick and make circle around your nipple as you felt her leg wrap around one of yours and feeling another body most likely Lucy layed on your right side holding you down copying Ona. You then screamed with pleasure feeling Lucy's mouth on your right nipple, licking and sucking like an animal.
These girls were sending you into a moaning mess, you were tortured by your girlfriends for what felt like hours. To be honest you didn't care you loved this feeling of being controlled by two Barcelona girls. You felt Lucy leave your nipple as you felt Ona roughly pulled off you. You shirt was pulled down you see Lucy smirking holding Ona by the back of her head, holding her head between your legs. "Time to eat brat" Lucy said to Ona before pushing her head down on you. Making you moan, feeling Ona's mouth, her licks, her kisses, treating you like a meal that has even kept from her all month. Lucy laugh would send electricity through you. Lucy push Ona harder and Ona pulled your legs towards her, showing she needed your taste on her tongue. You felt the texture of her tongue run up and down you as she chuckle. Starting to feel you body. "Papi" you said looking at Lucy, She smirked at you knowing you were close. "Yes Pup?" You shiver as she traces her fingers down your waist. "I i I go- ugh gonna cum" She smiled devious "Not yet pup, not till Papi says. You start to squirm with pleasure and excitement, hearing the slurps and licks from Ona makes you feel more alive.
"Say the magic word puppy" You bit your tongue and shook your head "N-no never" She gripped your jaw making you more close "Say it now" she growled. You couldn't, you can't break your loyalty. "If you don't say it" She gripped harder. But you felt it coming in the moment you said the words that Lucy didn't want you to say. As you the orgasm take over you arched up and during released said
"HALA MADRID!"
Dazed from the amazing orgasm, you couldn't see Lucy's furious face. How dare you say that in her house. Ona's was chuckling as she licked up every essence of yours. "You fucking pathetic bitch" you knew you fucked up but you didn't care you would never pledge love towards Barcelona. "BRAT!" Ona looked up deeply breathing "Hold them" Lucy said in a tone you both understood well. You gulped as Ona pounced on you, pulling you on her and wrapping her arms and around you. "You shouldn't have said that my pet" She said before placing her lips on yours and staring to make out with you. You both battle trying to over come.
"Fucking dumb bitch" You hear before a overwhelming force entered you, you eyes bulging and you screamed into Ona's mouth. You felt you hair pulled as Lucy made you look up into her eyes "You are going to pay for saying that word in my house, you pathetic galáctico" She said before thrusting again. Making you shake on her strap. You couldn't help but love when Lucy brought your team rivalry in it, it made things spicier.
You couldn't to jolt everytime you felt Lucy pound into you, the sounds of slapping skin, Ona licking your nipples in a teasing matter. You hear Lucy groan and grunt as she found a rhythm. You knew she had a vibrator behind her strap. You feel her push your head down and without hesitation you start to make out with Ona. You moan and scream as you are being pounded into a weakened state. You feel Lucy body weight onto you making you stop kissing and gasp more as she picks speed "Who do you belong to" Lucy said as you feel her hot breathe on the back of your neck. "Who do you belong Pet" Ona said in a seductive tone. "Y-ah ah uh Y-"
"Wrong answer pet" You feel Ona bite the right side of your neck and start to mark. Lucy now growling in you ear as she thrusted harder and place her hand of the back of Ona's head and pulled her into your neck"Who do you belong too puppy" she slowly liked your ear before biting town on your left side neck and Ona holding Lucy's head
"AHHH MY OWN-ERS I BELONG TO YOU, I BELONG TO YOU" You repeat and repeat you couldn't take it, you squirmed as you release at the same time as does, making her bite down enough to draw blood. You collapsed as Ona and Lucy continue to mark your neck for another minute. You don't move you just let it happen. The two girls making sure you and others who see your neck, that you are property of Lucia Roberta Tough Bronze and Ona Batlle Pascual.
Lucy sighs and falls off you as you then fall off Ona. As you lay there mind broken, you glanced to the side, seeing Ona wasting no time as she climbed on a spent Lucy and began to ride her. You stared at the two girls you loved, you couldn't imagine not having them in your life. It was heaven. Lucy now regaining her composure started to move ger hands up and down Ona and thrusting upwards. You slowly scooted towards Lucy and draped your arm across her chest. She looked at you. "You did good puppy, stay by my side and rest" She pecked your head as you slowly fell into slumber letting the two others finish.
*Smut End*
You woke up groggily. You felt arms around you, you opened your eyes to see Lucy sleeping in front of you. you felt arms behind you, you knowing it was Ona spooning you. Thought still all naked, the covers were dropped over all three of you. This is what you needed, what you always looked forward too. Being sandwiched by the two most important and beautiful beings in the universe.
You feel back asleep, knowing you were protected in the arms of Ona Batlle and Lucy Bronze
The end
Holy shit, my first smut. I hoped it worked if not I apologise. I don't write smut so let me know how I did,it would REALLY help me knownif I did a good one or not .

You are not mine
Pairings ~ Alessia Russo x batlle! reader
Genre~ angst
Warnings ~ infidelity, angst no happy ending, short.
"I love you, Victor but you are not mine"
Tumblr media
All your fight was gone. The anger faded, and the sadness stepped in. Your reality was cruel, but it's one you would have to live with.
You sat cushioned on the off-white carpet surrounded by happy memories in now broken picture frames and the shredded pieces of the wine soaked wedding dress. You nursed the last bit of the grape wine and allow yourself to fall into a trance of what use to be.
Your mind travelled until the realization of when everything began to collapse set in. Ignorance allows you to turn a blind eye on the tensed touches, fake smiles, and shifty eyes when both of you were in public and canstant change in fragrance all after the ring was put on your finger.
Looking at said glistening ring, you chuckled at yourself the clear fool for ignoring the obvious warning signs all because you didn't want to be alone. The irony of it all is that you stand to be alone regardless.
°•°•°•°•°•°
An angry gasp wakes you from where you slept on the floor, disgruntled you sat up and allowed the flickering shadow like figure to become whole. This is probably the only time in a very long one that you saw pure emotion from the older woman, even if it's raw unwarranted anger.
"Before you attempt to release your unjust anger, remind yourself if it's fair."
Alessia has never felt this cold even in England's gloomy weather, but when your emotionless voice hits her ear, chills tickle her spine, and she knows she's about to suffer a great loss.
Lost in the blist under another woman's sheets, she didn't consider the repercussions of her actions, but the light had already brought out the secrets hidden in the dark and there was no amount of fixing that she could do.
Alessia gets confirmation that you're aware of her infidelity when you pass your phone to her weakly, and she reads the chat between you and her team's vice captain. Staring at her, the screenshots of erotic photos and text with the other woman.
Taking a deep breath, the young striker is formulating words sweeter than honey in hopes that she could convince (deceive) you into staying with her. You pay no mind standing on your shakey feet stretching away the days misery.
"I'm not interested in your explanations. There's absolutely no justification for what you did to me, I honestly don't believe I gave you a reason to step foot out of this relationship. I did all I could so you can swallow all your deceitful words. I'm no longer the fool that believes you."
The weight of the cold silver ring feels heavier than it actually was in her hand. The realization of what could have happily been reflected in the palm of her hands.
"Ona is coming to get me, and I'm going back to spain. There is no need to worry about hiding anymore."
"Wait, no, this isn't what I wanted."
"But it's what you deserve. As sad as it is, you have to realize this is your doing, and I unfortunately won't stick around to be second best. It's not fair."
Alessia selfishly wanted to erase what you knew to change her ways, to return faithfully to you, but she knew the gut-wrenching truth ends with her losing you.
You knew she didn't deserve tenderness, but she was all part of you knew. Gently placing both palms and her wet cheek, your attempt to whip away her guilty tears fruitless as they're quickly replaced by fresh ones. You gaze into the ocean blue one last and place a kiss at the corner of her lips.
"Te amo alessia pero no eres mia."

—MY DEAREST FRIEND AND ENEMY. (2/5)
Tumblr media
pairing: ona batlle x fem!reader
synopsis: you and ona become much closer, but in the wrong way; an offer on the horizon threatens to tear you apart.
word count: 3.7k
warnings: description of collision in football
PART I, PART III, PART IV, PART V
Tumblr media
Sports Illustrated: USWNT International Y/N Y/L/N Scores in First Game Back From Injury “Y/N Y/L/N will not stop scoring. The Man City star returns to action with a stunning header in a home game against Everton since picking up an injury this summer in the CONCACAF final against Canada. Though the U.S. emerged victorious thanks to Alex Morgan’s penalty kick, Y/L/N was forced off in the 68th minute with a torn hamstring. She was expected to be sidelined for 3 months. […]”
You skimmed through the article, waiting for your coffee to brew. It has been an arduous few months as you focused on rehabilitation. You were supposed to be match-fit at the start of the season, but the physios determined you needed at least a few more weeks before you could play. Your thigh still felt a bit tight every time you stretched them. Nonetheless, you were back to playing, that was all that mattered.
It was early November, and the winds were picking up in Manchester, and yet you were warm.
“Morning,” you said, smiling at the figure waddling into the living room.
Bratwurst was wagging his tail by her side, no doubt looking for more food as if you hadn’t fed him half an hour ago.
“Good morning,” Ona said, rubbing her eyes.
“Coffee?” You nodded towards the machine.
“No, I have to get to training. Thanks, though.”
“In my shirt?” You smirked at looked down at her top. Sure enough, it was the old T-shirt you lent her after you were done last night.
“Hah hah.” She mocked you, but then took off the shirt, leaving her top half completely bare, and threw it at your face. “Obviously not.”
You let your eyes travel freely, as she went back into your room and returned wearing the clothes she came in last night.
“Looks like you’re back to being your insufferable self.” She walked to where you sat, putting on her necklace. “Can’t even go on social media without seeing people praising your goal.”
“All in a day’s work,” you said, grinning.
Ona rolled her eyes and put on her shoes. “I’m glad you’re back, but I won’t go easy on you.”
You stood up and pecked her lips.
“I never asked you to,” you leaned closer, ducking your face into her neck. “Maybe when we’re alone.”
She snickered quietly and patted your cheek. “Try not to miss me too much. Bye-bye, Bratwurst.”
The pup sat by the door as he watched her close it behind her. Ever since she started spending time at your apartment, it felt like he liked her more, always following her around and snuggling with her as she gave him pets.
Ona had been coming over since the kiss at the end of last season with the premise of meaningless sex. You both had an arrangement, and you were committed to keeping to it. You were surprised when she suggested it, thinking her not to be the type, but Ona continues to surprise you.
You had only meant to meet up over dinner to talk about what happened, but the night ended with her hands tangled in your hair and your legs tangled in her sheets. The ups and downs these past few months never deterred you from seeing each other. In fact, Spain losing out in the Euros prompted her to come over and forget about it for a night. In a way, you both had each other.
Your teammates at Man City were especially amused whenever you’d forget to cover up and come to practice with marks on your neck.
“Who’s the unlucky gal this time, Y/N?”
“Have you been busy while you were injured?”
Every time, you would just shake your head with a grin because you’d never kiss and tell. Also, because Leila and Laia would flip out if they knew you’d been screwing their teammate on the national team.
Your arrangement worked for a while, both of you still too young and too committed to football to think about anything else. While a lot of your colleagues would disagree, it was the excuse you told yourself to fully admit that what you felt for Ona was beyond just carnal desires.
You were treading on dangerous waters, your feelings bubbling to the surface every time you saw the girl. It was much more challenging to keep them under wraps, especially when you had to play against her every couple of months. From what people knew about you two, you were rivals, and that was your relationship. Rumors of a romance surfaced too, amongst younger fans, but it was the result of baseless shipping. If only they knew.
Ona wasn’t an incredibly affectionate person, not by a mile. The only times you would catch her lowering her guard by the tiniest of margins were when she was tired, maybe then she’d let you cuddle her after sex. But you remembered when Spain was knocked out of the Euros way too soon, and she was crying on the phone to you. You had just won the CONCACAF with the US across the Atlantic, and yet all you wanted was to hold her.
And so that was what you did. Two days later, after you were dismissed from your international duties, you flew back to Manchester and waited for her. Ona liked to be the little spoon whenever she was sad, and you were very happy to oblige. If she was feeling generous, she would even thank you for it. As much as you wanted to, you never teased her about it, because you knew what you had was fragile, and a slight mention of it could topple everything to the ground.
That was how it was with your Spanish beauty.
“Wooooooow . . . You’ve got a handful,” said your teammate, Chloe, as she stood in your kitchen, eating your chips.
“Yup,” you pressed your lips thinly, grabbing some seasoning from the cupboard. “That’s my life right now.”
You proceeded to tell Chloe everything one day, omitting a few saucy details, of course.
“Have you tried talking to her about it?”
“That’s the thing, though. There’s nothing to talk about. I can’t just walk up to her and demand something that wasn’t part of the arrangement to begin with.”
“I know, but it’s clearly affecting you. You like her, don’t you?”
“No.” A few seconds of silence followed, and Chloe was looking at you with a glare. “Okay, I think she’s cute, like, really cute.”
“I think you should talk to her, Y/N,” Chloe said. “Worst case scenario, you lot stop whatever you’re doing with each other behind all of our backs. Best case scenario, you date her.”
You smirked, but nothing no usual quippy or smug remark came out. “I should try,” you spoke quietly.
Chloe nodded expectantly and continued eating her chips, now. “I can’t believe it. You tricked all of us! It was Batlle all this time!”
Tumblr media
“I didn’t think you’d come tonight,” you whispered quietly into the room, sitting by the edge of your bed.
Ona was under the covers, on her phone. “Why? ‘Cause we played against each other?”
You nodded bashfully.
“I’m here, aren’t I?” she set her phone down. “Or did you not want me to come?”
“It’s a little too late for that, don’t you think?” You said, gesturing at the clothes strewn on the floor.
You let her study you for a moment, finding the ruffled sheets much more interesting instead.
“What’s wrong?” She said.
“Nothing.”
“You’re too quiet.” Her voice was low and calming. She reached out and caressed your hand. You wanted to bury your face in her neck and be done with the conversation instead.
“I was just wondering . . . would you like to come over a bit earlier from now on?”
Your question made her look at you with a puzzled expression. “Have I been staying too late?”
“No, no. I mean—you can stay as late as you want, but come a bit earlier. I can cook for us, and then we can just sit and . . . talk.”
You fumbled with your fingers, your eyes drifting up to her, seeing the realization dawn on her. She exhaled. “Okay, that sounds nice . . . but as friends, right?”
“Um . . . no?”
“Y/N,” Ona breathed. Her silence was killing you. Finally, she looked up. “That wasn’t our arrangement, and I’d like for it to stay as we’ve agreed. You’re okay with that, right?”
“Yeah,” you lied, caressing her arm and flashing a smile. “It’s for the best.”
She nodded but watched you closely. “Come here,” she whispered.
You obliged, letting her pull you into her embrace. A searing kiss followed, leaving you to straddle her bare waist.
A short gasp left your lips. “Fuck me, Ona.” You pleaded quietly, hoping she’d fuck you until you forget the conversation ever happened. But you also hoped she’d go slow and make love to you, proving that she’d finally reciprocated your feelings.
You’ve decided that you wanted both. Maybe then, you’d finally get what you wanted.
You didn’t know that Ona was scared to let you in too, so she settled for sleeping with you.
You had been an obsession of hers for three years, a game she played besides having to focus on the actual game she was paid to play. But now, here she was—sleeping with someone who could possibly be her mortal enemy. She didn’t know when, but suddenly, she couldn’t bring herself to see you harmed.
She wanted you, but that was the selfish part of her speaking.
In the morning, you had expected her to be there, but your bedside was empty.
Ona moved through her days like a ghost. She didn’t expect it to be this hard three years ago when she first set foot in Manchester. She didn’t expect a forward to make her life this hard, or that she would fall in love with you. Every minute she spent tangled up in bed with you were minutes where nothing else outside that bedroom mattered, and it scared her.
It scared her that only you could make her feel that way, that something she had spent so hard working towards for herself, you did so easily for her.
She thinks of the nights after the Euros when she practically stayed over all day, and how you took care of her. She thinks of the cheeky winks you would send her way whenever she played against you, and the not-so-innocent brushes that you sneak in whenever she defended you. She think of your face when she shut you down, and how quickly your walls came back up.
She thinks of you the entire time she was on the Zoom call with her agent.
“You need to decide soon, Ona,” her agent had told her. “Barcelona doesn’t wait for anyone.”
It was a no-brainer, but she thinks of you all the time.
Tumblr media
The referee blew the whistle and the 90 minutes were over. You collapsed on your knees as the Etihad erupted into cheers. Man City had reached the semifinals of the Women’s Champions League for the first time ever in the history of the women’s club. You would be playing Wolfsburg next, but you couldn’t care less about that right then. You just wanted to celebrate with your teammates.
You wished that you could celebrate with Ona too.
You sent her a text much later in the night, but she didn’t respond. Thinking it to be too late for her to come over, you went to bed, soaking in your victory.
But then, she didn’t respond the next day, then the day after that. A week later, she still hadn’t responded. Then the first leg of the semifinal came, and City drew 2-2 to Wolfsburg. You had given her space to deal with whatever she didn’t want you to know and knew double-texting made you look desperate, but you have had enough of the silence.
A vote of confidence would have been nice Sent 4:29pm
Nothing.
You weren’t going to put your life on hold for her. You wouldn’t give her that satisfaction.
The week of the return leg, you had almost forgotten all about Ona from the amount of training you were doing.
“Okay, ladies. Gather around,” said Chris, the assistant coach. “This will be our last practice session before the Champions League game. We’re gonna do some passing to start with, then a set-piece practice, and we’ll close off with a 5v5 scrimmage. That sound good?”
You were starting to feel more confident than jittery. Your movements were sure and steady, so were your finishes. Big games never deterred you, but it was the added fact of Ona not responding to your text that caused you to check your phone every time you were able to.
“No phones, Y/N,” Chris said, and raised an eyebrow.
“Sorry, Coach. Just checking news from family,” you lied. He extended his hand anyway, and you begrudgingly handed your phone over.
“I can’t have you distracted, Y/N. The match is tomorrow.”
“I know, I know. I’ve been good, though, haven’t I?” You grinned, taking a swig of water.
Practice ended later than scheduled, but you didn’t mind. You needed the extra preparation, and you were glad to have done that with your teammates. Chris finally gave you your phone back, like a naughty student, and you quickly checked your messages. Still nothing. It wasn’t like this was the biggest game of your life or anything.
Going to the news, flipping through articles upon articles on politics, your eyes landed on one about sports.
The Busby Babe: Ona Batlle Set For Barcelona Return “Manchester United and Spain star right back Ona Batlle is reportedly on the verge of completing a move back to Catalonia, rejoining Barcelona Femeni at the end of her contract with the Red Devils. […]”
Tumblr media
The match of your life started. You were on the left wing as you always were, playing inverted so Laia would be running the flank. You scored one, but Wolfsburg got one back towards the end of the first half.
“Make those runs, ladies. If you see them coming at you, call out to your teammates. Use the third man to break free of the defense.” Gareth pointed at the board, showing hypothetical scenarios that the team could exploit for an opening.
“Hey,” Chloe sat next to you, her forehead glistening. “You alright?”
You uttered a small ‘yeah’ and closed your hand over her sweat-clad one over your knee. You couldn’t be distracted. You owed it to Chloe and everyone else on this team.
You were slamming your fist on the door, but you didn’t care. Your jaw clenched as you swayed on your feet waiting for her to open up.
“What the fuck, Y/N?!”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” You stepped into her apartment.
Her face went pale. “How did you know?”
You let out a laugh. “You’re pathetic. You’re a coward for not even saying a single word.”
The ball was sent over long from deep aiming towards you. You called for Filippa for a one-two, but once you dribbled, you were tackled inside the box. You put your hand up at the referee but huffed in disbelief when she only shook her head and granted a corner.
Slapping your hand on the grass, you sprung up with a grunt. It must have looked like you were throwing a tantrum, but you couldn’t care less, you wanted to win.
“I didn’t know how to tell you.”
“So you were just not gonna say anything at all?! You owe me that much to—”
“I don’t owe you anything, Y/N.” She snapped. She had never snapped at you before, not while off the pitch. “You know what we have is just sex. That’s all we ever had and that’s all we will ever have.”
Tears formed in your eyes. You felt like a kid again, being scolded and taken for granted. “Please, don’t do this.”
“I’m sorry, Y/N, but this isn’t some fantasyland,” Ona said firmly. “I told you what I wanted, and I thought you agreed.”
There was a period of struggle over the ball soon after, mostly in midfield. You were growing increasingly frustrated as passes continued being cut off just before they reached the attacking third.
“Come on, guys! Let’s finish this!” You called out to your teammates in an attempt to hype them up before a throw-in.
Your irritation mounted, but you told yourself to quickly snap out of it. I need to stay calm, my team needs me. It proved quite difficult when Lena Oberdorf slithered up from behind to mark you. She dug an elbow into your back to keep you at bay, and when you moved, she moved. So you pushed back, much harder than you anticipated. It set her off. Good, stay off me.
Soon, you heard the ref’s hurried whistle, as Lena shoved you back. “The fuck are you pushing for?!” Your opponent seethed, getting all up in your face to challenge you.
You were feeling bold, so you smirked at her. “Come closer, see what I’ll do. Or do you just want a piece of this, huh?”
It wasn’t your best quality, you admitted it, but you liked it when you set off an opponent. You didn’t care when Lena was hurling insults at you in German as she was being led away. What mattered was that you had gotten in her head, and it would be much easier to break her defense from now on. The referee blew her whistle again, and a few teammates of yours attempted to separate you from Lena.
“Sei ruhig, Mann. Bleib’ da drüben.” Be quiet, man. Stay over there. Waving at her dismissively, you saw the way her eyes looked like they would pop out of her sockets in fury, knowing she didn’t expect you to know German. You couldn’t help but feel a sick sense of satisfaction.
“Last warning, Y/L/N.” The referee warned before continuing the match.
There would always be one player that completely drove the opposition crazy, and you would gladly be that asshole, so your teammates wouldn’t have to. You wanted to win.
“You kissed me first. I thought . . .”
“Please, don’t make this any harder than it already is,” Ona said quietly.
“I thought we had something, Ona,” you tried to steady your voice. You knew you sounded pathetic, but you never believed Ona could betray you in such a way.
She only pressed her lips thin. “We don’t. The only thing we have is our arrangement and however you feel about me on the pitch.”
Bunny scored in the 75th minute, and that would be the last goal for City in this match. The game went to extra time, and you could feel your teammates getting tired and sloppy in possession. You were tired too, but you wanted to keep fighting, anything to keep the thought of Ona out of your head.
You were so focused on the ball that you didn’t see a defender coming up beside you, her body colliding with yours in an attempt to redirect the ball. You fell to the ground with a thud, the stinging impact beginning to spread across your back. You felt the wind getting knocked out of you, your vision beginning to fade until all you could see were the lights atop the stadium, until those faded too.
The next thing you knew, you were on your side. Then the uncomfortable pain in your gut started to become more apparent, and you felt like you couldn’t breathe anymore. You gasped for air, just as a couple of your teammates knelt beside you.
“Y/N, can you hear me? Medic!” You heard a voice almost like Demi’s call out.
You didn’t know who knocked into you, you didn’t care anymore, because you had the overwhelming urge to throw up whilst still struggling to breathe.
“Can’t . . . breathe,” you wheezed out, tears starting to fill your eyes. You wanted to go home.
One of the medics shone a flashlight in your eyes. “Pupils are PEARL,” she said. “Okay, I need you to try and take deep breaths for me, alright, darling?”
You drew a shaky breath. There was a wheezing noise, in and out. In and out. The more you did, the easier it got. Your head was dizzy when you stood up, just as you heard applause ringing throughout the stadium.
Chloe appeared in front of you and offered her arm while a medic took your other as you walked toward the sideline.
“You’re alright, love,” she flashed you a warm smile and wiped away the stray tear that lingered on your cheek.
It was much too unfortunate, because you still had a lot more to give, but you were done for the night. Gareth knew it too, so he sent Hempo in to take your place.
You finally let the tears fall freely when the final whistle came.
“When do you leave?”
“In two weeks.”
A scornful laugh escaped you that you didn’t even bother to hide. “You didn’t even have the decency to tell me, not as your booty call, but as your friend.”
But you were kidding yourself. You knew Ona and you were never friends, never quite lovers either. Only two people floating around in a sexual limbo who were too scared to admit to themselves what was right in front of them. Now she was leaving, and you would never get the chance.
It didn’t matter anymore, any of it. You had a Champions League semifinal to play.

Trigger warning : Angst, car accident, hospitals.
PART 2 (Ona's POV) IS HERE
______________________________________________________________
Celebrating a new victory for FC Barcelona, you find yourself with almost all of your teammates in an establishment which has been privatized just for you. It's now 2 o'clock in the morning and you saw Mapi and Ingrid slip away more or less discreetly already one hour ago. You think you were the only one to see them go and you couldn’t help but wink at Ingrid when your eyes crossed. She blushed slightly before raising both eyebrows in your direction.
Well maybe you weren’t in the best position to tease her, Ona was sitting on your lap with her drink in her hand while talking with Alexia. Even though you’ve only been together for a one year and some more, you can’t deny that you’re already totally crazy about the spaniard. You met the summer she came back from Manchester.
You had already met her several times on the football fields, already noticing her beauty, but when you got to know her more it was like love at first sight. And by a real miracle, it seems that the feelings are shared. You still wonder every morning when you wake up next to her how a woman like Ona Batlle could focus her attention on you.
Lost in your thoughts, you come back to earth only when you feel her lips gently land in your neck.
"Dance with me?" she asks and you smile lightly.
"You know that I'm a terrible dancer"
It was true. You're a forward and you have good dribbling skills, but when it comes to coordinating your moves on a dance floor, we’re not far from disaster.
Ona pouts and you roll your eyes. That’s enough for her to jump on both legs with a big smile, understanding that you just gave up.
"So smitten"
You hear Alexia teasing and make her a grimace over your shoulder as Ona drags you to the dance floor, making her grin in return. Alexia is your bestfriend and you know she's in really very happy you found someone to be happy with. And the Someone being Ona Batlle, she didn't understand why she never thought to introduce you before.
You have to admit that you have fun with Ona on the dance floor. You weren't really dancing, more goofing around, laughing and swaying when the music go soft.
That's actually where you are, your arms keeping your girlfriend very close to your body. Her hands are around your neck and you kind of got lost in her beautiful eyes. She kisses you and you happily kiss her back for some minutes. You're maybe not out for the rest of the world, but your friends and family know about you two.
"Shall we go home?" you ask a little after.
Ona nods and after taking the time to say goodbye to the girls who have not left yet, you find the fresh air of the Barcelona nights. As you are just next to your appartment, you choose to crash here for the night. Ona being a little smaller than you are, she would wear one of your shirt for the night.
You smile when the spaniard grabs your hand to walk, arching an eyebrow.
"I’m not sure being like this gonna keep people from suspecting that something is happening between the two of us, Love."
Ona shrugs, looking at you from the corner of her eye.
"Well maybe that way people will stop imagining that you’re dating that B team guy."
She pretends to throw up and you can’t help but laugh. That was like two weeks ago for a gala, you posed with this boy for a simple photo and Twitter practically caught fire. So did your secret girlfriend’s jealousy. Your parents are conservative, so you’ve never talked openly about your sexuality. That probably played a big part in this case.
"You know you have no reason to be jealous"
"Yes. Still."
You smile once more and kiss her cheek before crossing the road. From that moment on, everything seemed to be idling. The headlights of a car approaching too fast, the squeaks of the tires and the terrified cry of Ona after the impact. You just had time to take her in your arms and push her out of the way of the car. That's the last things you can remember.
******************
When you wake up, you can't feel anything, but in a good way. You can't open your eyes either, but you feel like you're floating. Remembering a conversation you had with Ona while looking at the stars on her balcony, you make the decision that you are simply lying on a cloud. As the time pass, you begin asking yourself what you are doing on this comfy cloud. That's when the memories came back and first you wonder if Ona is safe. You heard her scream before going numb but it wasn't a cry of pain, physical at least.
And then, you wonder if you are dead. But if that means you saved Ona’s life, is there a better way to die? Probably not.
You feel something a little bit after, that surprises you, even makes you panic a little. Something touches your hand and you feel your heart racing. Strange, for someone dead right?
"What's happening?"
Man this voice, you could recognize it between a thousand, even distorted by anxiety like now. It's Ona's voice.
"Looks like she’s reacting to your touch. That’s pretty good."
You don't know this one, but if she can make feel Ona better, you like her already. The tonality make you imagine an old lady, with grey hair and glasses. Ona stay silence after but you can feel her fingers gently caressing your hand.
"I don't know where I can touch you without hurting you more" she mumble, making you wonder what you look like.
******************
You get bored and wonder what would happend if you just let yourself fly higher. If you let go. So you let yourself go and you start to feel lighter and lighter.
Until you were punched in the chest, brought back to your cloud.
The force of the blow cuts your breathing briefly and a new voice, which you also know very well, sounds in your ears.
"Oh no, don't you dare do that. Not now that I finally managed to convince your girlfriend to come home, shower and change."
Well excuse yourself Miss Putellas but what the hell are you doing on my fluffy lovely cloud? That said, the firmness of her voice changes you a little bit from the sweetness of the one Ona is talking to you with. So you stay on your cloud until your lady comes back. She does a little later, after a door slammed.
"What the hell happened?"
You feel her hands touching your face as Alexia’s voice explains in the background what happened, explaining that everything is fine now.
******************
Time fly again and you wake up in a middle of a conversation. Ona is here once again and you realise that she's talking with her mom.
"I'm so mad at her" you hear Ona say.
"I understand. But I'm more grateful. She saved your life."
You can perfectly picture the scene, Ona in her mother's arms while she gently rocks her. Ona's mother as always been affectionate, even with you. You were at first surprised by the welcome hugs, but it's kind of nice. Your parents aren't really fond of the life you choose, being gay and a football player, so you don't really catch with them a lot. But it's ok like this for you.
"What am I gonna do if she doesn’t wake up Mama? I can’t live without her"
Ona’s voice is choked, meaning she must be crying. And it makes you want to do it too, or at least make her understand that you are still there and that you can hear her. But you don’t know how to do it, even opening your eyes seems impossible. Thanks god, her mom is here.
"She will wake up, Ona. Your story isn't finish now."
A silence passe only interrupted by Ona’s sniffs.
"Your brother is here"
"But I told him not to come" Ona frowns.
"As if he was going to listen to you. He knows you need him and you are as stubborn as each other."
A new silence comes, smaller this one.
"Will her parents come?" Ona's mother ask.
"No. They said they’d come when she woke up. Not sure I’ll let them in though."
While Ona seems angry with this information, you're not really surprised. Like you said before, your parents aren't really supportive of you. Their only daughter did not really meet the expectations they had. You haven’t seen them since Christmas two years ago, last year you spent it with Ona and her family. As for the summer holidays, you preferred to fly away to rest in the sun with your friends and Ona. In any case, they themselves did not mention a possible meeting.
******************
Time has continued to stretch, but you have no idea how long you have been there, floating on your cloud. What you do know is you’d like to know how to get back to your people. You have daily visits, Alexia, Ona’s parents and brother, your teammates and obviously Ona who seems to camp by your side.
Ona talks to you often, makes you listen to music or keeps you informed of your condition. You apparently have bruises all over the place, four broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. With serious head trauma, but contrary to the doctors' fears, you have no cracks in your skull. You were relieved to learn that you had nothing on your legs. That way you will return to the fields easier.
Alexia tell you about Ona, usually being there when your girlfriend leaves your bedside to take care of herself. Alexia encourages you to come back to Ona, explaining how much she needs you. She sometimes adds that she also wouldn't mind to have her bestfriend back.
Others, like Ingrid, Aitana or Lucy, stay here in silence, but their presence are great too. Some of them take your hand too, usually Ingrid. You hate being alone but you have to admit that you really rarely are. Even Laia flew back from Manchester for some days, wanting to be here for Ona.
******************
"Today is our birthday"
Ona's voice is sweet as always but the information startle you a little. The day of the accident, you still had two weeks to think about a memorable day for your girl. You already had the gift, but not the rest. You had not imagined that so much time had passed since.
"I found the necklace, I didn't mean to but I was looking for one of your hoodie and the box just fell on the floor."
She speaks quickly, as if she expected you to wake up and scold her. Once again you can easily imagine the expressions on her face, the way she would look her shoes and the slight reddening on her cheeks. Instead, you feel your heart swell with love for her a little more. And the bip of the monitoring - that you’ve been hearing for some time now - seem to want to transmit the information to Ona by accelerating a little.
She's closer now, you can smell her shampoo as she gently strokes your hair. When she talk again, her voice is a whisper.
"The necklace is beautiful, but I promise you’ll never have to give me anything again if you wake up today. I want nothing but your presence by my side. I miss you so much."
You miss her too, you have to admit. You miss hugging her, kissing her or watching her like the creep you are while she's sleeping.
So this time, you try to open your eyes, with all that you have. It take some time, Ona keeps talking, but you can’t focus on what she’s saying and the efforts you’re making at the same time.
It takes you some time, but you eventually succeed.
Everything is too bright suddenly and you close your eyes immediately. The hum of Ona’s monologue stops instantly and you hear the sound of a chair rattling the floor. But you try again, this time long enough to allow your eyes to get a little better at the ambient light. You feel the mattress sag at your waist, before your eyes can finally focus on the one thing that really matters. Ona’s face.
She looks at you too, looking too stunned to speak.
"Nice necklace" you mumbling, your voice hoarse and broken from not being used for two weeks.
Ona kind of broke down, bursting into tears and lying half on you, her face buried in your neck. You slowly raise your arm - your muscles all seem numb - to caress her hair.
"You're awake"
You hear Ona repeat this phrase several times, before she gets up to look at you again.
"You're awake" she says again, this time while looking at you.
"I love you" you prefer answering, focusing of what matter for you. Not being able to say it back for so long was kind of frustrating.
She smiles between her tears and kiss you with all the love and tenderness she have. You reciproque the kiss as well as you can, and just when Ona pulls back you hear the door of your room being open.
"They didn’t have the coffee you like anymore, I hope it fits you. They’re all filthy in this hospital anyway" Alexia grumbles without looking in your direction.
"Well hello to you too Miss Putellas" you said.
Alexia turns in your direction so quickly that you wouldn't be surprised to learn that she have a stiff neck. The surprise made her drop the cup of coffee she was holding in her hand and it took her a few more seconds to rush to the two of you.
And for the first time since you are here, you hear Ona’s laughter ringing in the room.

The object that stood in the way of a World Cup
Hi. So this is going to be a 2 part (maybe 3 part) story that I've had floating in my head for a while now.
It's angsty - I do want it to end with a fluffy end, but it's getting a little too long to be 1 thing ahahaha. Anyways.
Ona Batlle x Reader
TW: Angst, no direct mention of bad mental health, but it's clear R ain't ok.
Word count: 3.3k
Part 1 : Part 2 : Part 3 : Part 4 : Part 5 : Epilogue
Flashbacks are written in Italics; for anyone not aware of the British school system GCSEs you take at 16 (you have 3 or 4 choice subjects and 5 or 6 compulsory subjects) and A-levels you take at 18 (you choose 3 or 4 subjects)
Description: R sees Ona again for the first time since their breakup
Tumblr media
This is what you had been waiting for. All summer. All year. Hell, probably all your life. The World Cup Final. And the thought absolutely terrified you.
Your first thought after the final whistle wasn’t one of joy or happiness. You weren’t elated like Lessi or Tooney who barrelled into you and squeezed you so tight it hurt. You weren’t jumping for joy like Gee, Kiera and Lucy who manhandled you into the middle of their huddle. You weren’t screaming so loud your voice went hoarse like Hempo and Es. You weren’t standing in disbelief like Mearps and Millie.
Your first thought was of your ex- girlfriend, friend-with-benefits, situationship, Ona. Your first thought was of Ona. Spain had won against Sweden yesterday. And now you had won against Australia. The last time you had seen her was not a fun experience for you. Screaming. Tears. Spiteful words she didn’t mean. But that was the last time you spoke to her. It had been a long 8 months without her.
You weren’t quite sure what you were to each other when you were both at United. You had met on her first day. You were meant to be her buddy. The management had asked around during pre-season if anyone spoke any Spanish. You had done it at A-level, so you stuck your hand up. Barcelona was The Dream for you, so you had tailored your studies at school as much as you could to help you achieve it – taking Spanish at GCSE and A-level and continuing to watch Spanish shows and reading books to help you maintain it. You weren’t fluent but you knew enough that it would help Ona feel more comfortable. And you clearly had.
After winning the first derby of the season, the team had gone for drinks. Alcohol flowed, inhibitions were lost, and boundaries were blurred as Ona ended up in your bed. You had thought it would be a one-time thing. A drunken mistake that wasn’t much of a mistake to you. And it was … until it wasn’t. The next time it happened was at your birthday. And then her birthday. And then the end of the season. And then alcohol wasn’t a factor in taking you both to bed. She was suddenly all around you. Her jumpers were in your wardrobe. Her football boots were by the door. Her stuff was in the shower. Her snacks were in the cupboard. You had never spoken about what you were, but you drove her to training, she cooked you her mother's dishes, you snuggled into her side when watch your show, she slept in your bed every night.
And then it all came crashing down.
November 2022
You knew you needed to tell her as soon as possible. You wanted to tell her the news that had you pouncing on her the moment she stepped through the door. You were happy and giddy and so, so excited. You hadn’t thought that she wouldn’t be all of those things for you. You had made no secret that Barcelona was your dream. Everyone know that if Barcelona came knocking you would be gone without a doubt in your mind. You had received a phone call from your manager that afternoon.
“Hey, Y/N. Are you free to talk? There’s an offer for you.” Paul said down the phone. He sounded composed but happy, it intrigued you.
“Yeh, I’m free. What’s the offer? It’s mid-season though and I’m out of contract in the summer, why are they wanting to talk now?” You were questioning but not closed off. You knew joining a team mid-season would be hard but not impossible.
“Well… it’s Barca. They’ve but in an offer for you.” You were in complete shock. Barca wanted you. You were going to play for Barcelona. That’s all you’ve ever wanted. You screamed. It was the only thing you could think of. “I’ll take that as a yes, then?” Paul laughed. He knew Barca was the dream. He’d already written up the acceptance email.
“Oh my god! Of course it’s a bloody yes. I’m gonna play for Barcelona” You shouted.
“They want you to sign on the first day of the January signing window. It’ll be announced just after El Clásico. Is that ok with you? It gives you a couple of months to get everything sorted. And since United haven’t played in the Champions League, you aren’t cup tied or anything.”
You were floating on a cloud of happiness when the door clicked open. Ona was back from having a ‘Spanish Day’ with all the Spaniards living in Manchester. She had barely made it into the living room when you jumped her. Lips trailing everywhere you could reach. She laughed that gorgeous sound as you shoved her gently to the bedroom, her coat slipping off as you went.
You lay with your head against the pillows, hair fanned out to the side. You were sweaty and out of breath in the best way. Ona collapsed down next to you, her arms quickly wrapping around your waist.
“I had a phone call today.” You said nonchalantly. “From Paul,” you added as you tucked the duvet around the both of you. “There’s been an offer for me in the January window”. She looked at you expectantly. “Oni, Voy a jugar para el Barcelona” you breathed out. She stiffened in your arms.
“Qué quieres decir, amor?” She choked out after a few moments of silence, sitting up and moving away from you. You knew she wanted to go back to Spain, go back to Barca … but this was not the reaction you were expecting.
“Paul phoned. They’ve put in an offer for me for the January window. I’m signing on the 1st with it being announced after El Clásico.” You stated the facts. The simple outline of the facts that made you feel so, so happy.
“Are we not going to talk about this? You can’t leave in the middle of the season. United need you. We need you…. I need you, amor” She started off loud, angry, and upset, but by the end of the sentence it was barely a whisper. You had never seen Ona so… you could describe the look on her face. The way her body seemed slumped over in sadness.
“Hey… hey. No, don’t think like that. I’m here until the break. We’ve got a month or so. Everything will be fine, Oni. You are well aware that Barcelona is only a few hours on a plane. Everything will be fine!” She seemed to accept your comforting words.
But everything wasn’t fine.
There was a shift in the relationship arrangement whatever this was. Fewer jumpers were in your wardrobe. When she ran out of body wash, she didn’t replace it with a new bottle. Less of her snacks were added to your weekly shopping list. You still drove her to training but her music no longer blasted out of the speakers. She still cooked for you but there were never leftovers for the next day. She still slept in your bed, but she held onto your arm rather than curling up on top of you.
And then it was the Christmas break. Your last day at United. You weren’t sad to be leaving the club. But you were sad to be leaving the people. Of course, you knew you would see some of them during the international windows and whenever you came home but it wasn’t the same. Once again, the alcohol in your system led you to be on top of Ona. The first time you had done anything since you told her about your move. Something felt different this time. She was leaving to go back to Spain the following morning and you wouldn’t see her again before you left.
You woke up with a slight headache, but that wasn’t what pulled you from your sleep. Catalan came drifting across the flat. Ona was awake, and by the temperature of the bed, she had been for a while.
“Hey. Qué ocurre? Qué pasó?” She was pacing the living room, muttering away to herself. “Oni? Hey, estás bien?” She wasn’t paying any attention to you. “Ona”. Your hands rested on her shoulders, halting her scattered movements.
“Don’t touch me,” she snapped. You jumped at the harshness in her tone.
“What’s wrong, Oni?” You asked again.
“I can’t do this.” She answered back. Her tone just as sharp. You knew what she was implying but you hoped you were wrong.
“This being…?” You trailed off.
“Us.” She stated simply. You waited a heartbeat, hoping she would realise you would do anything for her.
“It’s not like there was really an ‘us’ to begin with!” She spat at you. You felt your heart begin to splitter into a thousand pieces. Ona was looking for an argument. She was terrified you’d leave her behind at Manchester without a second look. Ona was hopelessly in love with you. She had been for some time. It wasn’t fast or scary. It was subtle and peaceful. One day she had woken up next to you and she knew it was you. It would always be you. But she didn’t know if she was yours. You were never a tactile person but with Ona, you always had some form of body contact. She thought it little of it. She was Spanish after all, touching your friends was fairly normal – she didn’t realise that you didn’t hug Lessi or Tooney unless they forced themselves at you. She didn’t consider how you were quick to shake off Mary or Maya’s arms. To you, and to everyone else but Ona, it was really obvious that she was yours and you were hers. You just hadn’t had the ‘what are we’ conversation yet. She was also jealous. Barca wanted you. Her home wanted you. Not her. Never mind that her agents had mentioned that Barca wanted her in the summer when she was out of contract. Barca offered money for you. Barca wanted you so badly that they offered a record-breaking fee in the middle of a season. She was scared, angry and jealous. How was she to know that you rarely argued back with someone? How was she to know that your easy-going nature was a result of growing up in a household where shouting was the norm? How was she to know that your mild-mannered temperament was due to your habit of placating your family to stop the noise? You had never told her that particular part of your childhood.
So, she hit you where she knew it would hurt the most, hoping to get a reaction out of you. “Eres sólo un polvo rápido. Fácil. Nada mas para mi. Something to pass the time. I don’t even know why Barca want you, honestly. No eres lo suficientemente buena.” She waited for a reply, but none came. She waited for you to lash out at her. Snap. Do something to make this … breakup? … easier. She wanted to be able to hate you in the same way she was trying to make you hate her. She did the second most painful thing she could think of. She spun on her heels and marched out the door.
You knew she was lying… you think. You hoped she was lying. You knew Ona could get mean when she was upset or scared. You had witnessed it after a particularly bad game – her harshness, her biting words. But she had said those words with such conviction, and you couldn’t think of a reason as to why she would be scared or upset. It had been a wonderful night. Laughter, soft touches exactly where you needed them, and love. You could feel the love between the two of you. Every lingering touch, every passionate kiss, ever whispered word. Everything was done with love, for the pure enjoyment of the other. Everything was perfect.
You're just a quick fuck. Easy. Nothing more to me. Was that all you were to her? Did the late nights mean nothing to her? Did the secrets you whispered into her hair mean anything? Were all the promises she made you lies? Was everything she ever said to you just so she could get her regular fix? Did she really think you weren’t good enough for Barcelona? She knew her opinion of you and your football meant a lot to you. Was every reassurance that you were good enough for the starting XI mean nothing? Was every calming word when you were waiting for Sarina’s call false? Did she genuinely think that you weren’t good enough?
You were in a daze all throughout Christmas. Seeing you family was fun, but you couldn’t shake the clouds in your mind. When you met with the some of the Lionesses in Manchester in between Christmas and New Year, everyone could tell something was wrong. You were normally on the quieter side, preferring to listen rather than speak. But you didn’t really do either. You were just there; not contributing to conversations or laughing along like you usually would. Something was wrong but no one knew what. And then you were on a plane, staring out the window as you watched Spain get closer and closer. You had never been to Spain outside of camps and tournaments. Ona had promised to take you there, to show you Barcelona, to show you her home. But you had to make it your home without her by your side.
And now you were about to play Ona in a World Cup Final.
Lucy knew something was eating at you in the days leading up to the final. She had phoned Leah to come to the hotel to cheer the whole team up and boost morale. It had worked for the other girls but not you. Kiera phoned Alexia as well. But the comforting words had washed straight over you. Everyone thought that it was because you were facing the Barca girls. No one in Barcelona knew of your history with Ona beyond that of teammates at United. If she was ever in town for a quick break, you always, miraculously, had other plans you couldn’t get out of. They didn’t know you lied and hid yourself away in your flat – moving your car a few streets along and leaving your phone off so the location couldn’t be tracked. You’d even gone so far as to phone up Hayley Raso in Madrid to ask if you could come visit her when you found out Ona would be at a team bonding event due to her free schedule coinciding with game-less weekend for Barca. Hayley was a little confused, but you were close enough friends from your time at Manchester that she didn’t question it.
Ona’s words had stayed with you. Every time you failed gave the ball away, passed a too-wide cross, or missed a shot on goal, her words echoed in your mind. You’re not good enough. The venom lacing her tone permeated your brain. You pushed yourself hard then ever before. You went for runs before training to improve your stamina, stayed late to practice free kicks and penalties. You lifted heavier weights and broke your old PBs in the gym. You were eating correctly and always seemed cheery enough, so no one really questioned it. Slowly the muscles started to grow. You were always on the stockier side, the muscles you had slowly built up helping you with your defence. But now you were really built. Your muscles were obvious, even under looser fitting clothes. Not that you really wore loose clothes anymore. At first, it was because everyone on the team, everyone in Barcelona, looked good. Their styles were just rubbing off on you, you had justified to yourself. But eventually, the tops became tighter and shorter. The trousers became low rise, and the hemlines became higher. The Barca Glow Up (and Lotte had coined it) was definitely real. You told yourself it was for you. The clothes you were wearing, the muscles you liked to show off, was because you were proud of them. Which you were. But you couldn’t lie to yourself for long. The Barca media frequently posted game day fits. You knew Ona followed Barca. You knew you would appear on her timeline. Yes, you were a little more tired than you used to be. But that was fine. You didn’t tell anyone the words that rattled around in your head when you were alone. You were fine. Everything was fine. You were playing the best football of your life at Barca. You were a key part of their defence, making your way into the Starting XI quickly and constantly proving your worth in every game.
You were fine. Ok, you hadn’t had sex, or even looked at another girl, since Ona arriving in Spain. Ok, you had to have some form of noise constantly in the background because every time there was silence your thoughts drifted back to Manchester. Ok, you couldn’t be around Ingrid and Mapi or anyone else in a relationship for too long otherwise you might start crying. Ok, you were still very much broken hearted. But you were fine. You weren’t necessarily good, but you were fine
The morning of the final, you were quiet. But everyone was, even Tooney. The buzz of anticipation. The air of expectation. Everyone was doing their own pre-match routine. You had followed yours to the letter. A gentle walk alone this morning followed by breakfast. A full bottle of water on the coach to the stadium. Pitch inspection with Less and Tooney. Warm up with Lucy and Millie. Hair slicked into a bun. A spray of perfume and into the tunnel to walk out.
She was standing just a head of you. Perfect. Breath-taking. Even with her game face on and her concentration as Irene spoke to her, you could see the usual kindness in her features. Those soft warm eyes that you had been lost in far too often. The freckles that littered her skin that you had traced and played dot-to-dot with as you laughed sleepless nights away. The braid that you used to tug on to get her attention before a match that always made her smile and break her focus. You knew you were still desperately in love with her. You shook your head. You couldn’t let her get to you. Not now. Your walls went back up as you pushed all thoughts from her mind. She wasn’t your Oni – even though you knew in your heart she would always be that to you –, she was the object that stood in your way of a World Cup. As Jess and Alex pulled your attention away from the Spanish players, you missed her looking at you.
She knew you had more muscle than before but seeing you in the flesh was something else. Your eyes that have the ability to truly look at a person, looked a little more tired than she was used to. The genuine smiled that was a defining feature for you was replaced with a hard line and a smirk every now and again. She thinks you have had a haircut since being in Barca – your bun wasn’t as big as it used to be in Manchester. She wanted nothing more than to trace her fingers gently over the new scar just above your eyebrow. She knew exactly how you got it. She watched every game of yours, live if she could – on repeat if she couldn’t. You had collided with a player during Chelsea Champions League match. She had been so terrified she almost picked up the phone to call you several times. She did play a little more brutally the next time she faced Chelsea. She had been carded after she left a particularly nasty tackle on the girl that had hurt you. She didn’t know that you also watched all of her games. She didn’t know that you also wanted to phone her after that match but was so scared of her rejection. But right now, you weren’t her Amor – even though you would always be that to her –, you were the object that stood in her way of a World Cup.
Part 2 will probably be out fairly quickly as a lot of it is already written but yeh

I hate the way I can’t hate you.
Ona Batlle x Reader.
Warnings: Angst, swearing, verbal arguments.
******
When you played for Levante, you met a girl. The most perfect girl in the world, to you, at least. Ona Batlle. She was kind, caring, considerate; her eyes were brown and reminded you of quiet fall nights. Her jaw was sharp and her mousy brown hair was always tied back in a plait.
Her personality was one of the best you had ever seen. She had the ability to care so fiercely for others while also keeping a level head, she was always soft spoken and polite but also charismatic and humorous. She was possibly the most humble person you had ever met, too.
You may have been young, but you were sure as hell in love.
And you don't think you've been able to love quite right ever since she broke your heart.
You started out at Levante together, you played football together, studied for school together. You trained together, lived together, ate together, went to the gym together. You were attached at the hip. So when her departure to Manchester United was announced, it was saddening. But you made your peace with it.
You had both decided you were going to make it work. You had too.
Ona, for a long time, was the only constant in your life. Your family and home life had never been particularly stable or good. You hadn't come from riches or fame. You had to work hard to get where you were today. And you continued to.
When you first went pro, you promised yourself you weren't going to let relationships get in the way of your career, but somehow Ona managed to break down your walls and your tough facade. Simply by being her.
She was a part of your heart. So when she suddenly ended things half way into her first season at United, a part of your heart died.
She did it over text.
Text.
To say you were heartbroken was an understatement. It felt as though a piece of you had fallen away, crumbled as you read those words. The words you had hoped to never hear. The words you never thought you would hear.
And so you needed to get away, from everything Ona. From anything that reminded you of her. And that meant leaving the only other constant in your life, Levante.
Plenty of things have changed recently, you thought, what's one more?
And it was difficult, but eventually you settled into Real Madrid. Content with only seeing her at Champions League matches, or in national friendlies where you would have to play alongside her.
You were content, but never quite happy.
You had had many failed talking stages and one night stands, often random women from bars. You always left before they even got the chance to stirr awake, leaving their bed cold and empty. Although you always felt guilty after, you continued with it. It was what worked.
You didn't fall in love, you weren't sure you could. And leaving before they could wake was the best way to get away from the situation, preventing yourself from catching even the slightest hint of feeling for them. Wether it was because you were still holding out some hope she'd come back, or because you simply didn't want a relationship; you weren't sure.
You couldn't truly love anyone again. You couldn't let yourself truly love anyone again. Ona had broken you, and wether it was for the better or the worse you didn't know. But you had a strong feeling it wasn't for the better.
A piece of you left with Ona the day she broke things off. You were confused, young and alone at the time. In a way you still were, you hadn't quite shed yourself of your previous naïvety.
But you were content at Real now.
Until Ona's transfer to Barcelona was announced.
It was something Ona had always dreamed about, going back to Barcelona. She’d tell you, “That club made me. They’re my home. And I promise you one day I’ll go back, with you,”
She'd say it with a smirk so charming and sweet you couldn't resist but to play into her fantasies. You would stay up all night talking to each other about everything you would do at Barcelona, how you would revolutionise the defending line.
Obviously that fell through. You went to Real Madrid instead, and you had always told yourself it was out of the need to leave; but you're fairly convinced you did it out of spite.
You felt your newly constructed life crumble around you the day you saw the news on instagram. You knew she was going to come back to Spain eventually, just like she had always planned. But you didn't think it would be this soon. She seemed happy at United.
Just your luck though, right?
Although the feelings you experienced when you saw the news alone at home was nothing compared to what you felt when you shook hands with her and met those beautiful brown eyes you thought were in your past again.
The same soft hands that had held you after harsh losses or great wins at Levante.
You never thought you'd hear her voice again. See her more often than you had to.
That match you kept your head down and did your job. And it paid off, Madrid won 3-2. Immediately after, you left for the locker rooms. But you heard the clacking of studs behind you and immediately knew who it was.
Ona. The love of your life Ona. The one who broke up with you without an explanation and over text Ona. The girl who you met when you were just a naïve young adult and had fallen in love with, was there. Stood before you, her big brown eyes glistening with unshed tears while yours were already streaming down your cheeks.
"Y/N." Her voice cracked. You winced and more tears fell, it took everything in you to not turn into a fit of sobs and cries right there and then.
"Batlle." You replied. Your voice was harsh and cold, albeit a little shaky and a tear fell down her cheek and her lip quivered as she sniffed. You fought back the urge to reach out and wipe her tears away.
"Y/N I need to explain myself, por favor." She pleaded. You felt like a giant dick for what you said next, but you said it anyway.
"Not a fucking chance. You broke me the day you left me, Ona. And to make matters worse? You did it over text with no fucking explanation," you paused, tears streaming faster, your voice trembling. You studied her face, searching for any sign of guilt or remorse, instead you were met with the sight of her looking to the ground.
"I need an explanation. Why, Ona? Why?" You said, your voice probably sounding needy now but you couldn't care less. Your mean facade had faded now and you shakily exhaled.
"I didn't want to hold you back," She said, her voice quiet and timid, her shoulders shaking ever so slightly as she held back her sobs.
"You didn't want to hold me back?" You repeat, she nods. Your sadness was replaced with a fiery hot rage that had been burning deep within you ever since that fateful day.
"You weren't fucking holding me back Ona! You never were! We had a system! We were fine!" You yelled, she flinched but you couldn't bring yourself to care. Too overcome with rage and anger to feel anything else.
"Y/N, please trust me when I say I didn't want to, but I knew I was holding you back, you were holding out for an offer from United, or Barca. I could tell-" you cut her off
"Did you ever fucking consider I was just happy at Levante?! I was captain for fucks sakes, Ona! I didn't want to leave that! I left because of you, I needed to get away from everything you!" You yelled, tears streaming down your face as Ona tilted her head back, wiping at her eyes.
"Y/N, I was right to do what I did. I mean, look at you! You're a star player for Madrid.." her voice broke again as she gestured to your grass stained Real kit.
"Right to do what you did?!" you screamed, she tilted her head to the side and shut her eyes, her lip quivering and her breathing shaky.
"I loved you, Ona! I still fucking do! I think I always will! Could you not have at least spoken to me first? Asked me if I needed space? Rather than breaking my heart and leaving me confused and trying to pick up the pieces for years?!" your anger had faded, the rage inside you simmering down now. Your upset and disappointment replacing the fury.
"Y/N-" she was cut off by you again.
"I hated you, you know?" you got out through gritted teeth, meeting her eyes as they widen and she stifled a choked sob, "Sometimes I think I still do. I hated the way everything reminded me of you. I hate the way I can't view fall the same as I used to anymore because it reminds me of your fucking eyes. But most of all, Ona?"
She looks at you, her brows furrowed and her lips tightly pressed together as they trembled while her shoulders shook ever so subtly as she suppressed her sobs.
"I hate the way I can't ever truly hate you."
And that was all it took, she broke down, mumbling apologies. But it was too late. You had retreated into your locker room, leaving Ona's Barcelona teammates to collect her.
You needed to heal. And now you had an explanation and closure, you finally could.
And the first step in that is letting go of the thing that hurt you the most. And for you, that just so happened to be the love of your goddamn life.
But it didn't matter. You would get through it.
