I’m curious, why is this fan base so antsy wen it comes to huntlow? I thought it was bc hunter is the conventionally attractive bad but sad boi everyone wants to themselves and seeing him be shipped with a character he might actually be compatible with is considered a threat (???) but then i see him shipped with the blight twins and everyone is cool with it, but then, i see fans ummm “passionately” hc him as aroace, same with willow and also aggressively shipping her with boscha. I find it funny how ppl are like “lesbian ace willow” “gay ace hunter” “both of them are aroace” wenever huntlow breathes like jfc, bi, pan and demisexual exists yk? (Side note: willow give pan vibes imo while hunter gives bi or doesn’t go by labels, he loves who he loves but tht’s my opinion lol).

Idk I’ve noticed tht a lot of side ships where the popular conventionally attractive character (most likely a boy) tht has a lot of trauma and emotional baggage is shipped w/ a character they have the most chemistry with and a dynamic tht works if they were a irl relationship gets the most hate or the most disliked and said popular character is shipped with someone who either barely interacted or doesn’t seem to have romantic chemistry (and is also conventionally hot) is the most popular/ accepted, which kind of says a lot on how majority of the audience view relationships.

Plus the fact tht most of the time, they know tht ship doesn’t have potential and is a crack ship (or looks hot). I think huntlow was seen as a crack ship too but then asias showed tht there might be growing potential between the two, and either ppl support it or ppl are bitching abt it and i have to see tht shit wenever i look in the huntlow tags and the comments in fan art from a popular fan artist like mark.

Tbh i think in the end, it’ll probably get the dipcifica treatment, heavily implied, but wont be confirmed, sadly. Hopefully I’m wrong and this post ages poorly who knows.

Plus hypothetically, lets just say huntlow does become canon, i don’t think they’ll be bf/gf like how lumity became gfs. I mean, obv lol and lumity didn’t become instant gfs, it was built up earlier and had enough time to flesh out into a relationship (???) meanwhile, hunter has a LOT of healing to do (esp after hollow mind) and while willow is a lot more confident than in s1, there are times where she falls back into doubting herself (same), so I don’t think they’ll be bf/gf, more like they’ll admit to e/o tht they feel something, but are not ready and would take it slow. Yeah look I mean I’ve shared my HS experiences before but I often get new followers so let’s go again. I was VERY gay and VERY closeted in high school. I was ~gayer~ in middle school because I didn’t know I was right so like I fully had a crush on a girl and was obsessed with her and I didn’t call it that in my head because I didn’t know I was gay and I had like a little love interest who was probably gay too who used to try hold my hand in school and I didn’t let her but I’d let her do it when we had sleepovers and we’d cuddle and stuff but she wasn’t allowed to tell my crush/“friend” we even had the sleepover because I was a weird kid and sometimes I start saying this stuff and I’m like maybe I *am* poly lol and maybe that’s something I need to figure out but ANYWAY.

Then Thirteen came out as bi on my TV and the penny dropped and I was like “fuckkkkkkkk” and I knew.

But I wasn’t about to like become a pariah, so I overcompensated to the point where I had Thirteen/Olivia as my desktop background and a friend laughed about it and I was like “lmfao I love House dude what’s wrong with u” and I then proceeded to pretend to have a crush on Hugh Laurie for THE REST OF FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL. My HS ex wasn’t sure about asking me out because he thought I was into old dudes. Like MY ENTIRE PERSONALITY WAS HUGH LAURIE (and SNL so that part was at least authentic).

No one in my school knew I was even vaguely gay. No one was surprised when they eventually found out but they fully thought I had daddy issues and was into old dudes and then I was in a power couple vibe with a boy so not much to think about there.

There were two girls in my grade who were the hot slutty messy bitches - I’d call them popular because I bitched about them as the popular bitches back then but I don’t know how many friends they actually had like mostly we whined about them and dudes fucked them - who were ALL OVER EACH OTHER. Like they made out at parties, they claimed to do other stuff with each other in front of boys or ask boys what they wanted to see them do, they used to be OBNOXIOUS. They were also - and are still - EXTREMELY homophobic like it was fully for dudes.

I Kissed A Girl was big at that point and their party trick was to make out and be all over each other for that song while dudes whooped.

Fun anecdote of being a baby gay: I remember one time we were at a party at this senior boy’s house and he asked me to dance and I was shy and insecure and awkward af at this stage and didn’t think I was even marginally pretty so it felt like a bad joke to me and THAT song came on and they started doing that and I got so caught up watching them and he was like “hey is everything fine” and I was like “I’m so sorry” and I like RAN outside and felt like a huge freak.

Now both those girls are… straight lol. They were just messy bitches. Anyway.

Then there was another girl in our grade who was a butch masc lesbian - and closeted af. Like we could see she was gay yk because of her gender presentation and vibe and just… besties this girl is like Kinsey 10… but she fully dated boys and made out with them especially very publicly and AFTER SCHOOL was briefly engaged to a guy and didn’t go through with it and came out as a lesbian and everyone was like “FUCKING FINALLY!!!” and good for her.

Then there were all my friends who made the regular MySpace type jokes.

And then we had one girl in our circle who was absolutely obsessed with boys but… a bit too into the jokes. The guys used to joke she should hook up with the two exhibitionists and she used to like giggle and be into it and be like “hahahaha AND WHAT IF I DID????” I’m still friendly with her and like AS AN ADULT - not in uni when the Kinsey 6 girl and I came out, like recently - she’s softly come out bi.

I would absolutely not be shocked if Tay has that type of thing going on. Like that girl is currently with a dude and will most likely endgame with a dude but no the girl stuff wasn’t for attention and she isn’t straight she’s just… a lil bit fruity and good for her.

a wip intro ; 

~i have once again posted an intro with a working title~

genre: new adult, literary (?) 

pov: third person present tense, potentially split pov 

premise: early adulthood is challenging. tomas’ trauma creeps up on him. junie doesn’t know who she is. kristen feels trapped. manon can’t keep up with herself. and selkie wants to know everything about them.

literal logline: couple of disaster kids in shitty student housing try to figure out who they are 

the vibes: mist, secret spaces in the woods, empty streets at night, libraries at 3am, going to the big supermarket at 10pm, house parties you shouldn’t be at, being lost and embracing it 

deals with: lgbtqia+ identity, bad family dynamics, mental health, girlhood and sisterhood, friendship, found family 

so whats going on here?

this novel feels both old and new. some of these characters i’ve had for years, some are new - but these are characters that are dear to my heart and the old ones i feel like have grown up with me. the past two years at uni have been the most formative of my life - i feel like i’ve always been an emotional person, but the highs and lows i’ve experienced these past two years? nobody prepared me.and it’s felt like a rollercoaster that never stops, even when nothing is happening, and i wanted to write something that honours that. i also want to give love to the new adult genre because the publishing industry won’t >:(  at first this felt v coming of age, but then i realised that it’s really not that. it’s the years after, where you think you have everything figured out, quickly realise you don’t, and then find a weird peace in not having everything figured out. i have zero intentions to ever publish this and it’d take a lot to change that. this is going to be “comfort writing” at it’s finest; it’s also something i want to help keep the hobby element of writing as writing transitions to part of my degree + work. i also have never managed to write a full novel, so i want to give myself that challenge and see how well i get along with longer works.  i’m 100% writing the book that 19 year old me wishes she had, and 20 year old me wishes she could have now. i’m always attached to my pieces but this one truly feels part of me and i feel like the writing experience will end up pretty cathartic. 

the setting ; 

this is set in sheffield, uk. this is actually where i attend university and spend half the year! i was apprehensive about a) making a piece set there and b) sharing that, but as i brainstormed this idea it kept being more and more heavily inspired by the city i know, and since the novel pretty much honours this last two years of my life, why not set it there? i also think sheffield is a v interesting city and could be utilised way more as a setting @ uk lit :(  when i think of sheffield, i think of the nightlife, the student crowd, the skyline from the top floor library room, the graffiti, the global street food events, the vegan markets, the christmas markets, the botanical gardens (where the photo is from!), the hills that kill your legs, the gay quarter, the overpriced vintage stores, the languages, the way you can see the hills and fog from the city centre, the peak district being a bus journey away, the way there’s little distinction between urban and rural, the way it amazed and terrified me coming from a small town in the country. these things are just the start of what i want to capture i’m also heavily inspired by the train journey between sheffield and manchester; its less than an hour and v quickly becomes fields, mountains and tiny railway/mountain towns. i wanted to play with that and try to encapsulate both that atmosphere and that of the city

right now? a lot of playing around and brainstorming. making moodboards. imagining characters in scenarios. since i don’t outline my work before i write them i’m taking this very slow and also don’t know how consistently i’ll even work on it. what you see here is very much the bare bones of a story, something that i used to be afraid of, but now i’m embracing! i literally only know the opening chapter and a handful of scenes. part of me is nervous to post about this when it’s at such an early form, but also what’s the fun in waiting for it to be polished? also this is me holding myself accountable to not drop this piece lmao  

i won’t be starting a taglist for this, not yet. i want to get comfortable w the work and figure out how i want to go about it first. i also have no idea when the next update will be and how it’ll look, but when church mud goes more into the research/revision stage, you’ll probably hear a lot about this piece (and in probably a lot of detail since i have zero plans to publish. exciting!).

so first session; i went through the pyre(something i forgot the full name sob) forest/sprout mole village/sweetheart’s castle in one go and let me TELL YOU. DOING THAT WAS FUCKING INSANE I WENT NUTS holy shit.

so anyway.

pyre forest!!!! the lil race against the big spider coming after u for disturbing the smaller spiders mechanic was very fun i had a lot of fun figuring out the best routes to take. i know normally mechanics like that lead to ppl getting frustrated cause u have to keep retrying but i had a lot of fun!!!! sum annoyance but good natured type, th kind that just makes u try harder u know? i just enjoyed it JKFN;FN; candles in the foggy forest....now That is an aesthetic

the rare bear scared the fuckin shit out of me i remember it didn’t attack me straight away so i was like “aw (:” but then when i press x on him it takes me to a BATTLE SCREEN AND SUDDEN THAT MF IS TERRIFYING I WAS LIKE WHWHWHWHWKJDNJ. very funny i honestly wished i recorded my reaction

- Sexuality: I see him as like, defensively straight. He’s actually bi curious BUT you cannot tell that to anyone. “I just sucked yo dick? Well, no homo then.”

When he is in front of a girl he likes (Miss Pauling), he will most definitely show off. Whether that being shooting someone’s brains out, or just runnin’ fast.

Loves trying out really stupid things with Demoman and sometimes Engineer. Bottle with an explosive in it? HIT HIM UP.

Is very picky on textures. Especially when it comes to food.

He probably had a rough childhood. He also probably sees the TF2 crew as his family and treats him as such. Maybe not in what we normally think on how we would treat family, but in his own fucked up way.

You see a sliver of pink out of the corner of your eye as you try not to actually Look. Oh god. It’s her. God can’t help us now.

The place actually happened to be like, right on the edge of Little Homeworld. Outside had full glass windows, tall, that reached the ceiling. Inside the lighting was dim, and a bit smokey. You figured it looked alright enough to head in, and gave the bouncer your ID. He nodded and you walked in. It smelt of cigars, and of cinnamon, and it wasn’t entirely unpleasant. A pretty woman in a low-cut red dress was playing the piano on the stage, and it was some contemporary jazz piece. The low murmur of people talking filled the air in between the swells of music, and the place actually seemed busy with people and even gems enjoying themselves. You liked the vibe. It was.. comfortable. At ease. You looked over at the bar, rather than any of the tables, and saw a spot near the end. Perfect. Right by the bathroom. You headed over and plopped down on the stool. There were three empty at the end, so you took the one in the middle, which had the best view of the stage from back here.

While waiting for the bartender to come back down this side, you took the chance to look  at the people around you. A couple familiar faces.. small town you know? And some new ones. New gems too. You can see Mr. Fryman sitting at a table with Kofi and Nanefua, and they look like they’re playing poker. You try not to snicker since Kofi looks absolutely blasted, and Mr. Fryman is cursing up a storm because Nanefua is clearly winning. You see her wink at Mr. Fryman. You suspect a rigged game.

Your phone chimes a couple times. You pull it out of your bag, and check to see who’s bothering you. Ah. The group chat.

After we finished Little Homeworld, I had to find something else to focus on in my down time.” She explains while grabbing your drink from the fridge under her side of the bar, and opens it. “So tell me,” She sits the drink in front of you and leans on the counter. “What brings you out here today?”

You take a rather long sip from your drink before meeting the large gems eyes. On the stage, a tall, beardy man replaces the woman that just finished her piece. He immediately starts this jaunty, irish tune. He’s singing loudly, and it’s not bad. A couple of people are clapping to the tune.

“I just really needed to get out.” You replied, taking another sip from your drink. “I was kinda hoping I’d meet someone new, maybe get another friend to hang out with, since my friends wanted to ditch me this summer.” As you’re saying this, more people join the clapping. It’s getting a bit rowdy. “Or maybe at least get drunk enough to forget how lonely I feel.” You add, shrugging. 

“Well, I can supply the drinks, and at least a bit of company.” Bismuth winks, and turns to the patron 6 seats up waving her over.

You put your phone down before seeing whatever Alex attempts to reply back with. It sounds like the current boisterous song is coming to a close, and really, most of the people here are clapping along with this guy. It’s fun. And despite the playful ribbing from your shit-talking friends, you’re starting to have a nice time. You finish your drink, and nod over to Bismuth who catches your eye and nods back. You look over onto the stage, the man having cleared the piano, and see Lapis wiping down the piano and seat. Guess he spilled his drink while playing. Lapis, unlike Bismuth, actually dressed up a bit for the job. Her hair was pulled in a cute, small bun, and she was wearing what looks like a tailored tux with no jacket. The vest fit her quite well. She seemed.. happy. Good for her.

No one had taken up the stage again yet, but the place was still lively with chatter. You see someone out of the corner of your eye move towards the stage, but Bismuth comes over again so you tear your gaze away. 

“Another cider? Or do you want something else this time, Y/N? She asks, cleaning a glass with a rag, and moves on to the next one. 

“Ehh, yeah, give me another cider.” You say as you pull out your phone again. Bismuth sets down the drink in front of you.

    Harper: what a goddamn disaster. she got that from me i think

    Alex: no, youre both disasters separately

    Y/N: Fuck you guys. Give me a break.

You hear the piano start to play again, and someone pulling the mic forward. You look up to see pink hair.. And someone kind of familiar. She’s wearing black slacks, a white collared shirt, and suspenders. The shirt is partially open, and you see part of a pink gem showing through on her chest. It looks like she’s got mascara running down her face. 

And then.. she starts to sing. 

It’s lovely. It’s slow and a bit sad, but she seems to be enjoying herself. She’s definitely done this before. Quite a few of the people around quiet down some, so you can hear her pretty clearly. You drink some, and text your friends.

    Y/N: Guys, I lied. There’s a cute gem here who can sing.

    Alex: holy fuk

    Alex: what

    Y/N: She looks kind of familiar though? I can’t quite place it though.

    Harper: dude theres like near 100 gems now in little homeworld lol

    Harper: you’ve probs seen most in passing? :P

    Alex: are you serious Y/N? cant flirt with human women so u turn to aliens? lmfao

    Y/N: Ohhhhh my god. Die.

The gem on stage sings the chorus with gusto - man she’s really getting into this. You’re kind of taken a bit with her performance. It just pulls you. But also.. She really seems familiar now and it’s bothering you.

    Y/N: No I’m serious she seems really familiar and not in that In Passing kind of way.

    Harper: what does she look like?

    Alex: yeah a description would be nice 

    Harper: TAKE A PIC

    Alex: holy shit YES 

    Y/N: I can’t take a pic. She’s too far away, it’ll be blurry.

    Alex: literally just zoom in lord almighty

    Y/N: Okay. Hold on a sec.

You turn on your camera app, and face the stage. Looks like the gem is actually finishing up her song. Perfect, you’ll snap a pic once she stands up. She finishes, and most of the people are clapping for her. You zoom in, and it’s grainy, but decent enough to make out most of her. You snap the pic.

The flash was on.

A couple people turn to look at you, and you try turning away quickly, horrified, and see the gem looking in your direction before walking off into the crowd of people. You cannot imagine a worse scenario. 

    Y/N: FUCK FUCCCCKKKKKK.

    Y/N: (image sent)

    Y/N: I GOT YOUR FUCKING PIC BUT THE FLASH IS ON.

    Y/N: I’M PRETTY SURE SHE SAW THAT IT WAS ME THAT TOOK THE PIC.

With shaking hands, you take another sip of your drink and wait for a reply. Why is life like this.

    Harper: uh.

    Harper: ummm.

    Alex: wait

    Alex: one fucking second

    Y/N: WHY ARE NONE OF YOU CARING ABOUT MY PLIGHT. 

    Y/N: I’M TRYING NOT TO COMBUST ON THE SPOT HERE.

    Alex: shut up for one second

    Alex: harper isnt that

    Harper: uhh. yeah i think so.

    Y/N: WHAT!? WHO IS IT. WHY DOES THAT MATTER AT THIS POINT.

As you’re typing back a reply, someone pulls the stool out next to you and takes a seat. You see a sliver of pink out of the corner of your eye as you try not to actually Look. Oh god. It’s her. God can’t help us now.

wes was my roommate before we were best friends, i met them thru facebook actually lmao. they posted their “hi i’m looking for a roommate pls someone--” post in our university fb group and they listed a bunch of shows they were into and one of them was. v-slur. which i was like. obsessed with (i still.............kind of am but only fanon but that’s not important rn) so i messaged them REAL FUCKIN QUICK and we hit it off SUPER WELL and now look!!! here we are!!!! who else is going to get lost in the woods with me on the first seventy degree day we have??? who else is gonna keep the dorm constantly supplied w chocolate??????? who is going to be the pastel roommate to my emo???????? anyway i could keep going but they are wonderful i love them

nicole became my best friend via a scenario straight out of a fuckin. social media au. we had the same english class fall semester of freshman year but didn’t realize it for like. two fucking weeks. there was an event at the campus lgbt+ center that i didn’t go to, but wes did, and they came back and they were like “hey there’s this person who ids the exact same way u do!!!” which at the time was bi ace and i was like “oh shit???” so i got their snapchat and i made a fuckign. v-slur reference on my snap story. it was a stupid joke abt lance and they were like “OH?” and i was like “OH?” and then we started talking and one night we had some. bullshit reading assignment for class and were bitching about it and then were like “hey wait........wait we’re in the same fucking class--” and anyway ya now we just. torture each other w our writing. angst gang rise up

nh is like. he intimidated me when i first met him bc he was like. one of those quiet kids??? but one of the really smart kids?????? and he was my DM before he was my friend bc he was getting a group together and sent cola to collect players and so i’m like??? who is this fuckin kid in his stupid green golf hat??? turns out he’s a very cool human to be around and we actually!! share some interests!!!! and his writing is fucking GOOD what the fuck. we finally convinced him to take an english minor. anyway he’s cool and he can do math i’d kill for his brain

if i was on campus, “home” means my dorm, and if it’s the middle of the night i’m probably going to grab food at the union or to dick around in someone’s dorm, or if it’s finals maybe hit up whichever dining hall is running on a late night schedule 

if i was at “home” like my hometown aka my parents’ house.......idfk there’s nothing to do here. probably taking my dog for a midnight pee

my ideal home has like. a more modern design. it’s not a mansion but it’s not small and i live there with my closest friends and all of our pets and we have a pool in the backyard and a big patio and a nice shady tree and green grass and a garden and maybe a trellis arch that leads to the backyard n it’s just. it’s nice it’s big but it never feels like it’s too much, it’s cozy and it’s home
