Found along Orion's sword just north of the bright Orion Nebula complex, these reflection nebulae are also associated with Orion's giant molecular cloud about 1,500 light-years away, but are dominated by the characteristic blue color of interstellar dust reflecting light from hot young stars.

In a new release on October 02, 2023 - James Webb Telescope Unveils Stunning Images of Orion Nebula's Red Fingers. Full article here
Tumblr media
Dive into the depths of space with us as we uncover the mesmerizing secrets of the Orion Nebula. The new James Webb Space Telescope has gifted us an awe-inspiring glimpse of the cosmos, and it's nothing short of breathtaking!
📸 Behold the Image: "The 'Fingers' of the Orion Nebula"
These striking 'fingers,' captured in a short-wavelength mosaic behind the Trapezium Cluster and the visible Orion Nebula, are racing away from a celestial explosion that occurred half a millennium to a millennium ago. They appear radiant in red due to their composition of shocked molecular hydrogen, and the green tips are a result of ionized iron.
Join us on this cosmic journey and learn about the forces that shape our universe. See the universe through the lens of the James Webb Space Telescope and let your imagination take flight.

✨🗡️🌌ORION NEBULA🌌🗡️✨ The great night sky warrior This an important image and work in general for me, I'm all about doing night photography in general but astro and more specifically Deepsky is a new area that I want to explore much more, it's a fascinating part of what surrounds us, there is so much out there that we can't see but our cameras can...that is the magic of astro photography. I totally know that this ain't even close to what you can achieve with the Orion nebula, there is much more gas and details in there but considering the gear I used, did it from my rooftop and I'm not even close to use the tracker in it's full potential i think it turned out nice. Btw this was big since it was the first time I did a fully calibrated sessions, meaning i did light frames and all calibration frames for this sesh. Stacked and Tracked Exif: 200 lights - 6sec - f6.3 - iso10000 at 300mm, 50 darks, 70 bias, 25 flats. Stacked in DSS, edited in PS. Things I have: a7iii+nice lenses+startracker+small accessories+a bunch of passion, love for the cosmos and art in general Things I want: a modded astro camera, have my first telescope, more astro adventures. The one thing I miss in my life right now: that juicy h-alpha emission, I'm like 🍎😭😋 I need you spicy reddish magenta gas of love, lol😂, i went overboard there but you astro folks out there will understand. #astrophotography #deepsky #astrolover #lapazbolivia #orionnebula #nebulosadeorion #noctisastroaventuras #gonlasernavisualartist #stars #nebula #astrobros #bolivianastro #astrofotografia #cieloprofundo (at La Paz, Bolivia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeekAdaJBh7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope captures stunning images of the Orion Nebula
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has captured stunning images of the Orion Nebula, one of the brightest nebulae in the sky. The images reveal new details about the nebula's structure and composition, including previously unseen clouds of gas and dust.
The Orion Nebula is a star-forming region located about 1,350 light-years from Earth. It is one of the most popular targets for amateur astronomers, as it is visible to the naked eye on a clear night.
The James Webb Space Telescope is the most powerful telescope ever built, and it is able to see objects in the infrared spectrum that are invisible to other telescopes. The infrared images of the Orion Nebula reveal new details about the nebula's structure and composition, including previously unseen clouds of gas and dust.
The images also show the nebula's "Pillars of Creation," which are towering columns of gas and dust where stars are forming. The Pillars of Creation are one of the most iconic images in astronomy, and the James Webb Space Telescope's images are the most detailed ever taken.
The James Webb Space Telescope's images of the Orion Nebula are a testament to the power of the telescope and its potential to revolutionize our understanding of the universe.

1st attempt at capturing #orionnebula on its own. More grey skies with rain and snow equals more opportunity to re-visit old astro-data. In this case, M 42 | Great Orion Nebula & NGC 1977 | Running Man Nebula, captured 4-Dec-21. I've learned some new processing steps and have new software tools at hand, as well. This version of the Orion Nebula explodes with the red of excited hydrogen molecules. The use of a special nebula "booster" filter -- and much processing -- helps bring out the details. For those that might ask, I added no color to the image. In fact, I reduced the saturation so that it looked less like the evidence of a crime scene! (No aliens were harmed in the production of this image!) The Orion Nebula. Certainly the darling of amateur astrophotographers, but, isn’t it beautiful? The Orion Nebula is the brightest nebula in the sky. It is readily visible via binoculars in the constellation of Orion. On a galactic scale it is close-by at 1,500 light years. However keep this distance in perspective: a radio message to the moon takes about 1-2 seconds. To the nearby planets: several minutes. To the Orion Nebula a message takes about 1,500 years. I photographed the Orion Nebula from my balcony in Strasbourg France on a rare clear night in December 2022. #orionnebula #m42 #messier42 #messierobjects #astrophotography #astrophotographiefrance #blurxterminator #noisexterminator (at Strasbourg, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmhIBBUs4bo/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

New #JWST image dropped and it slipped right by me! Welcome to the image gallery, The Orion Nebula!! From PDRs4All.org: This is a composite image from several filters that represents emission from ionized gas, hydrocarbons, molecular gas, dust and scattered starlight. Most prominent is the Orion Bar, a wall of dense gas and dust that runs from the top left to the bottom right in this image, and that contains the bright star θ2 Orionis A. The scene is illuminated by a group of hot, young massive stars (known as the Trapezium Cluster) which is located just off the top right of the image. The strong and harsh ultraviolet radiation of the Trapezium cluster creates a hot, ionized environment in the upper right, and slowly erodes the Orion Bar away. Molecules and dust can survive longer in the shielded environment offered by the dense Bar, but the surge of stellar energy sculpts a region that displays an incredible richness of filaments, globules, young stars with disks and cavities.
