A little (more like HUGE) pet peeve of mine when it comes to fandom and fanfics is that many US fans make everything US centric.
If the story is set in US of the characters are form there, of course it makes sense. But when that's not the case please RESPECT the characters and their original setting. As an European it irks me to no end whan I see the huge amount of fandom content completely misreading os misinterpreating characters just because some US fans are unable to think there are different cultures around the World.
There's no need to make a whole research about how the country the characters are from, but at least don't make Tanaka-san (random name) from Hokkaido make tradicional US things and go to Target as if he was some random guy called Joe from Michigan

Wintery Fic Rec/Self Rec
I got tagged by @smblmn @a-noble-dragon @legalgal421 and @jamilas-pen tagged me in versions of this. So I decided to put them all together
My winter fics are only ever written for frozen-over-fest, because I live in a place where it doesn't snow and it's hot for Christmas. And even though one wasn't published in a fest, I definitely started it for that fest, but ran out of time. That one is
Christmas Drinks- I mean, getting snowed in with a stranger at Christmas? C'mon, who doesn't love that trope?
Then I wrote Santa Baby because David interacting with Children is a hoot! And my first ever Xmas fic was Merry Christmas, Patrick Brewer not to be confused with the other four fics of the same name that were published in the same fest (lolz)
But probably my favourite ever Wintery fic not written by me is Bon Hiver by Sweetsirius aka @wordthieve
It's the cutest take on 'the holiday' and I have read it many many times. So completely adorbs. I'm a sucker for a Christmas fic.
I really want to wish you all a very merry holiday season wherever and however you celebrate.
Here's a picture of David and Patrick Kissing because...

tagged by @frstcorinthians, @malarkgirlypop and @sweetxvanixlla 💞
Favourite nickname you’ve ever been given?
probably Jeska because that's been given to me on high school but and other than that my grandfather always comes up with a new nickname, if he likes how it sounds and think it's funny then that's my new nickname, this week's nickname is: axolotinha (after the axolotl, tinha= diminutive word in portuguese but it's a term of endearment)
Where are you located?
Brazil
What season is it where you are now?
summer and I hate it so much
Favourite tradition this time of year?
The obcene amounts of good food and alcohol, at xmas eve my grandfather will put on some 70's and 80's music in the background and we'll have a dinner with the closest ones, but in the next day.... oh my!! he always does this big big big barbecue thing (we call it churrasco here) and we invite all of our neighbors to celebrate, it's a madness and I'm his right hand for this operation
Favourite holiday food?
Okay so here its a bit different so I would say garlic bread, home made mayonnaise (it's more like a potato salad idk), panettone, churrasco, some pudding.
Mulled wine, eggnog or hot apple cider?
I would burnst into flames of I had a hot drink, around here beer is the way
Turkey, ham or nut roast (Or Tofurkey?)?
I guess Turkey??? I'm not a big fan of either one tbqh
Would you rather spend the december holidays in: a cabin in the woods surrounded by snow, or a house on the beach with sun and sand?
give me peace and snow I'm so tired of sun and I hate beaches because it's to hot and noisy, I had enough of beach for at lease 3 lifetimes
Are you pro-snow or anti-snow?
I wish I could shove my head on snow right now
Have you ever built a snowman?
no *sad noises while sad bossa nova plays in the background*
Skiing or snowboarding?
snowboarding seems cooler and I know how to skateboard so I guess I would do just fine
Do you decorate for the holidays?
My grandmother loved it but now we don't even get the xmas tree out of the attic lmao
Favourite holiday movie?
Does Bridget Jones's Diary counts as a holiday movie? I love The Polar Express and Home Alone and I know its not holiday related but my personal tradition is Mamma Mia!
Favourite holiday fanfic?
I can't really remember any if someone has some recs send it on my way please
If you were to star in a hallmark movie, who would be your love interest?
YOUNG HARRISON FORD!!!!!!!!!!! the finest male specimen or Cillian Murphy*barks barks barks*

Can we talk about the Jewish erasure in all of this Christian focus in NuWho? The Christmas specials, the shifting focus on this as "halfway out of the dark" like Christmas is the source of hope when this show was literally made by Jewish people (Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman). It's not just the Xmas specials themselves, it's the way they are used as a focus throughout the seasons. It just feels so disrespectful, like we're ignoring the show's roots.
Doctor Who was invented, created, and made by Jewish people. Why can't we have specials on Jewish holidays, or at least acknowledgments of Jewish holidays in the episodes? I've seen people praising Chibs for the new years specials instead of the Xmas ones, and I would like to take the opportunity to remind those people that the 1st of January is not when Jewish people celebrate the New Year, so it still feels like we're being ignored.
I would also like to add that some of our favourite classic who companions were Jewish. Carole Ann Ford (Susan) was Jewish, as is Tegan (not sure if her actress is Jewish, but her character is). We've also had some Jewish storylines in the books, audios, and comics.
Here are some interesting articles on the subject.

https://jweekly.com/2020/02/13/doctor-who-loves-its-nazi-storylines-but-where-are-the-jews/
Tldr; Jews made this show. Why are we still being left out of it?

For that ask thing you just reblogged. All of them. Answer all the questions from 1 to 30+
Well! Didn't expect that lol, but will do.
what’s your Christmas aesthetic? Somwhere between "Tacky" Christmas (think 90s/early 00s look) and Nature took over inside and you're expecting a reindeer to somehow walk out into the livingroom.
good or naughty? Eh, Good for the most part.
what fictional character would you want to find under the mistletoe? There's a COUPLE but most likely Aizawa from BNHA, or Jason Todd from DC. I am fully aware of my type and know I have no chances lol
reindeers or polar bears? Reindeer, for sure!
opening the presents: Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Counter! Midnight! We used to always open presents at midnight between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, our parents would send us to bed around 8, of course we didn't sleep, and we'd be woken up around midnight, and then all 20-ish of us (more if people could travel) would go one by one and open presents all at once. We still keep the tradition going as much as we can, but we don't mind picking a day or doing both days and seeing the same people twice. Both sides of the family (dad and mom) would both come, my parents go lucky that the in-laws loved each other, and we all get together/visit one another whenever we want. it pays that all of us live in the same city.
what’s your favourite Christmas movie? I'm actually a sucker for those old school stop-motion movies like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Year without a Santa Clause, etc. I also love How the Grinch Stole Christmas (both versions, not with Benedict Cumbersalad) too! But one I haven't seen in FOREVER is The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause (2000s version), been a hot minute since I watched that on Disney Channel.
favourite Brooklyn Nine-Nine Christmas episode? I sadly never got into Brooklyn Nine-Nine :(((
what’s your favourite holiday/winter fics tropé? I think Snowed in alone together is a nice one, so long as no one creates angst there >.>
playing in the snow or drinking hot cocoa by the fire? Drinking Hot Cocoa by the fire! I have a fireplace in the den and whenever I can, I like to sit by it and just vibe.
who do you relate to the most, the Grinch or Buddy the Elf? Buddy the Elf, but make me go to the mall and the Grinch shall appear. I get all my shopping done in October.
knitted sweater or knitted scarf? Knitted Sweater! I can't do scarfs too much because i end up getting bugged by them, but I love sweaters!
what’s your favourite Holiday song? "My Grown Up Christmas Wish" sung by Kelly Clarkson. Always manages to make me cry but I do love it.
fairy lights or neon signs? Fairy Lights.
do you have any particular Holiday tradition in your family? Mostly that midnight one I mentioned in the earlier questions. Oh! And my Maternal Grandmother has an old baby Jesus doll from Mexico (actually 2, but we use the bigger one). We place the doll (made out of clay or ceramic i think, but I can't recall, it's painted over) gently on a blanket, lift it up, and we sing him to sleep as we gently rock the blanket back and forth. Once he's "rocked to sleep" each of us will kiss his forehead to wish him a good night, before he's placed in the 'manger'.
hot cocoa or hot cider? Hot Cocoa!
Michael Bublé or Mariah Carrey? Imma have to go with Michael, I'm happy Mariah got her bag but c'MON, It's too much by now.
do you celebrate Christmas? I do! I'm no longer a practicing Catholic and honor more Yuletide events instead, but I love to celebrate Christmas too, it's what i've known for a long time.
snowed in with your crush: yay or nay? Yay, but I currently don't have any haha, wish me luck in the wilds that are dating apps!
Christmas rom-coms or Christmas children movies? Christmas Children Movies, Rom-coms can be over done and too cheesy for my tastes, and I have a couple Xmas hallmark movies I like.
you’ve been visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas future. What did you find out? I found out that I can't allow my fear of the unknown to hold me back, it's sadly a truth i learned late in life. But I am learning.
spending Christmas with the whole family or just with your so? (hint: it can be your pet) With my family, again, not dating ATM, but I am getting some cute catches.
what’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you think about Christmas? The scent of pine. I love that smell and can get VERY addicted to wearing all those candles to nubs just to enjoy it.
Gingerbread or cookies? Gingerbread, they can have a bit of a bite to them and that's honestly very appealing to me. I can't handle too much sweet.
what’s a good book to read during the holidays? Whatever you like, honestly! I'm looking up my old Jr. High books from almost (oooof) fifteen years ago! I really loved "The Goblin Wood" though! It's by Hilari Bell.
Skiing or Ice-skating? Neither, my ass is not balanced enough to not eat snow/ice. I WILL break something.
where and would you spend the winter ideally? Ideally it would be in the UK, honestly, I'm planning go next year! But only for the beginning of December. I can't imagine a Christmas without my family, no matter how chaotic and loud we all get. (I'll have to answer the rest after I post this!)

End of Year Travels: Part One…ooooooh
December 14th, 2007
Hello and other festive greetings, I trust this blog finds everyone eating mince pies or at least contemplating the eating of mince pies. We managed to witness the xmas build up in Canada, North America and Japan so my brain is now riddled with carols and Cliff Richard songs.
The last two and a half weeks was a lovely finale to a extremely surreal year, we witnessed sunshine, frost bite inducing snow [has anyone else heard that apparently when you get frostbite your fingers feel like warmed marshmallows, ie, crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside??? Ellen informed me of this a couple of days into our trip and I think that lovely image is definitely worth sharing with as many people as possible] and Gareth wearing little blue pants and a knitted mask at dinner. ( He had clothes on under the pants, which in a way makes him a bit like a freaky superman) (Pictures to follow)
The plane ride to LA was rather touching for us all as we were able to watch the masterpiece that is Ratatouille, which made some of our more sensitive members nearly cry, perhaps because of the parallels between the morals in the story and our own lives. The take home message is that “Anyone can cook,” and I like to apply this to myself as “anyone can make music.” Apart from that awful brother/sister duo on The X Factor. They really should be stopped.
We started out our adventure in LA which was a sprawling hubbub of confusing juxtaposition. There was poverty combined with the promotion of celebrity glamour (e.g people begging outside the kodak theatre where the Oscars take place) and a lot of Scientology related buildings. It’s WEIRD how seriously they all take it - there was the L Ron Hubbard Celebrity Community Centre (which we were assured did a lovely brunch), the L Ron Hubbard Christmas display, the L Ron Hubbard life exhibition and the various L Ron Hubbard workers trying to convince you to do “personality tests.” It apparently is the religion of now and in La would go perfectly with your Hermes bag and small obligatory dog. But LA did contain Ameoba records, which has everything. No, honestly, everything.
We also made a video out there, which sounds far more glamourous than it actually was because it was filmed in a recording studio so it could have been anywhere. But it was nice to sit around in the sunshine. I can’t say too much about the video before it is aired to the five people who will watch it, but it does involve small furry things which meow. I may have said too much. There is also a starring role from our lovely sound technician/tour manager Todge, which is maybe not Oscar worthy but should be given a nod from the Baftas. [Actually it’s up on youtube now so CHECK IT. And don’t worry, although it’s hard to believe given the skill of our acting, we are all alive and well. Although I have pulled a tendon in my knee. But that has nothing to do with the video.
There was also an afternoon spent in Melrose in the hopes of celebrity spotting (unsuccessful) which saw us discovering some ‘interesting’ Necromance shops featuring human bones, posters of how to perform surgery, books with titles like “the most fashionable clothes for mourning”, and my personal favourite– black toilet paper.] We did some shows also in LA, San Fran, New York, Boston, Ottowa, Toronoto and Montreal. San Francisco seemed to be where the crazies liked to hang out and generally talk to themselves, while we were having cocktails I witnessed a man continuously lifting a plastic bag up and down for an hour at what we thought was a bus stop. It turned out to a lamp post. He wasn’t waiting for a bus. He was just slightly eccentric.
New York was particularly fun as we got to play with our friends Johnny Foreigner again who were there recording their debut album, it also meant we got to go to Whole foods again which is perhaps the most magical food store in New York. [or the world] There was also a good two hours where is seemed Bright Eyes might come to our show, which where perhaps the most nervous of my life, I turned down cake because I was so nervous. He couldn’t make it, my dreams were dashed. [and you missed out on cake]
Boston was where we first witnessed lots of snow leading to cold feet and constant giddy excitement from Neil, who really likes snow. [aaaaaaand they gave us freshly baked WARM cookies when we arrived at the hotel. Pretty sweet.] In Ottowa we got apples in the hotel and some people received free champagne on their arrival. It was also where we got our bags throughly searched at the airport, with Gareth getting his toothbrush and ipod (!) swabbed for drugs. How cliched do they really think we are, we are strickly a // injected into the eyeball sort of band.
It was also where seven shots of a mysterious substance turned up on the right hand side of the stage [the crowd did try to help us solve the mystery by calling out that the drinks were called ‘Tracksuits’ …which didn’t really help]. We all accepted it politely and drank some (apart from Neil because he just isn’t cool) and luckily it wasn’t Rohypnol. It was alcoholic Irun Bru.
Toronto was where we were reunited with one of our favourite places, and caught up with some lovely people from Arts and Crafts including our favorite driver Aaron, who we convinced to come to Montreal with us the next day and miss work. His constant farting in the car made this journey rather difficult. [The drive was so loooooooooooong– why can’t they just build cities closer together??? It’s just open space in between…it SO wouldn’t make a difference. But luckily we were entertained on the way by our new driver Sam and his stories of how as a wee lad he excitedly volunteered to do a presentation on Toxic Shock Syndrome thinking it sounded really cool…until he realised it was to do with tampons. Gutted.]
We had heard so much about Montreal and were all rather excited about getting to see this lovely European style town where the fact they spoke French and they weren’t IN FRANCE was a huge novelty. I attribute that statement to myself, novelty for me is of course normal life for the Montrealians.
The thing about being in a band and that is places you want to see…you wont, you will see the street you are on between sound check and performance, which means you will see the restaurant/ Tim Hortons you eat in.
We supported Broken Social Scene, and the venue was rather beautiful but the fact wehad to get up at half five in the morning really really sucked… …to be continued…
As this blog has turned super long we thought we’d give you lovely readers a break. That is if anyone persevered to get to this bit. Also it gives us something to do when we inevitably get bored next week. So stay tuned – Part 2 to come. Lots of love, Ellen and Aleks x
