And for a second, just a second, he felt his magic slip as he wanted to turn around and take Rylan in his arms and cry, cry for how much he missed him. But he knew, he knew Lucas was not Rylan. He took a shaky breath and left go of his magic, his eyes and hands going back to normal. The man became free and he staggered back, falling down. River didn't help him up, glaring furiously at him.

River: This is not a pedigree shop. You didn't come here to buy a cat, you came here to adopt one. If you want a pet of a specific breed, you buy it, not demand it at a shelter that's usually full of unpaid volunteers who are here because they love animals. Even if you go to a pet store to buy a cat, there's no guarantee you'll get a cat the way you want it. It's an animal, not a car you get to choose what color the seat's inner lining is. So there have been a couple of posts joking about if FR used mendelian genetics and having to go back through the whole pedegree to make sure there's no crackle hiding in your breeding project pair.

What we haven't talked about is the possibility of staff then releasing recessive genes that can't be applied to a dragon directly. You have to apply two scrolls to two parents and then breed it out.

Why are you ethically against dog breeds? This isn't meant to be a baity discourse ask, I just genuinely don't get it and im curious about your perspective. Show-breeding culture is pretty fucked up and evil bc of how extreme and unhealthy it gets but like, there is purpose to things like working-line dog breeds

dont listen to me i dont know what im talking about but i dont like the idea of paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars/euros whatever for a pure dog breed who is probably gonna have some congenital problem, i am against breeding breeds that are unhealthy and bla bla bla like im not saying all dog breeders are bad or they dont love their dogs but in the bigger picture the obsession with breeding dog with a perfect pedegree is unhealthy. also you can breed working line dogs without them being a pure breed

He gently ushered them to some protest into their cages, sneaking closer to the entrance, seeing a little girl and their parents. He felt silly as he pulled back, ending up sitting by the door to the Familiars, as he was pretty sure River would not take them there. Perhaps the little girl was too young, but he couldn't risk it.. not already, it would fill the shelter with hopeful people, and it would be bad for both cats and dogs.  He wrapped his arms around his legs, finding himself wishing he hadn't taken this silly contract. Maybe he could have found this place earlier, worked here, been a nobody...

River: Is there any particular personality you are looking for?

The man quickly stepped forward. He seems to be somewhat posh and it sets River instantly off, as they seem like the type that are hoping to get something more for the status than the actual care.

Man: We wanted a Persian cat.

River actually frowned at the man and crossed his arms. 

River: This is a shelter, not a pedigree pet store.

The woman cut in, pushing her husband aside.
