Abstract - The user can release an energy feather and once it reaches a person and enters their soul, the user can communicate with them in the form of simple instructions. Once communication is established the user can abstract the form of the affected person into a monstrous creature. The user can give instructions to the monster, but the monster does not have to follow them. The user can choose to withdraw the energy feather on undo the Abstraction and leave it inside the person's soul for later reactivation.

Maelstrom - The user can release an energy ball from their fan and target an organism capable of retaining memories. Once the energy ball hits its target their memories will be erased. Whether only a few minutes, days or months are erased is up to the user. Maelstrom acts as a form of amnesia. The target can still retain general knowledge.

Pennon - The user can grow and retract a pair of black swan wings somewhere on their body at will.

You’ve seen angel wings before but never this close. Never when they were near enough to touch. Truth be told, you weren’t sure you’d ever get the chance, and you imagine the quiet angel can hear your heart racing.

But he’s smiling at the way you stare. Seemingly amused by your fascination and wide eyes as you watch the cream-colored feathers flutter against the wind.

“They’re…beautiful,” you admit softly, attention following the curves and dips of each row expanding from his back. “Are they heavy?”

“Not normally, no,” he tells you. “Only in times of great sorrow.”

Confused, you raise a curious brow.

His grin grows. “Each feather symbolizes that of someone I’ve watched over. And when they move on, a piece of their soul stays with me. It lives and it breathes, and it is.”

He steps closer and you feel your breath catch, awestruck by the way the large pennons begin to curl around his frame.

Flag of the United Provinces of Markland

This is the flag of the United Provinces of Markland. It comes from a world in which the Norse colonization of North America was more successful. The Norse expanded into mainland North America. Most of the settlements were founded by Christians. However, some pagans also established colonies in hopes of escaping persecution in the Old World. Unfortunately, Christians had a numeric advantage, and forced the Pagans further into the interior of North America. Still, the Pagans made the best of things, and there was some trade between pagan and Christian settlements. Christian settlements tended to be based around agriculture and fishing, while Pagan settlements placed emphasis on fur trapping and hunting.

Knowledge of the Americas eventually spread to the rest of Europe, and other nations began to send their own expeditions. The indigenous peoples were exposed Old World diseases, but managed to recover their numbers by the time Europeans arrived in earnest. There are several independent indigenous nations, such as the Haudenosaunee and Lenape nations. Both nations are close allies of Markland. Christian Marklanders traditionally had a tense relationship with the indigenous peoples. By contrast, Pagan Marklanders were generally on more amicable terms with the Native Marklanders, and intermarriage wasn’t uncommon. This lead to a creation of a new culture of mixed race Marklanders. We might consider them akin to the Métis of our world. In time, Markland began to view itself as separate from Scandinavia. This ultimately culminated in a war of independence. The Markland War of Independence saw Christians and Pagans fighting side-by-side to defend their homeland. This caused Christians and Pagans to view each other not as separate cultures, but as a single people sharing in a common destiny. The United Provinces of Markland includes most of what would have been the eastern provinces of Canada, as well as the New England states, Long Island, and New York City. The United Province of Markland is governed by a bicameral legislature known as the Althing. The head of state known as the Speaker of the Althing. The Speaker is voted on by the people and serves a term of six years, and can be re-elected for only one more term afterward. The Constitution of Markland places emphasis on protecting the rights of minorities, such a pagans. All provinces can declare an official religion, but they cannot penalize other religions, or lack there of. However, Pagan majority provinces are granted more leeway with what they are allowed to do, in accordance with the Constitution. Some conservative Marklanders grumble about this. They feel that pagans wield a disproportionate amount of influence in the Althing; especially given that Pagans only comprise about twenty percent of Markland’s population. However, most Christian Marklanders are perfectly willing to give small concessions to the Pagans. Marklander Christianity is highly syncretic. Pagan Marklanders might bless a field by pulling a wagon with a statue of Freyr or Thor around it. Christian Marklanders would preform pretty much the exact same ritual, but with a statue of St. Olaf instead. The raven, rather than the dove, is consider the symbol of the Holy Spirit in Marklander Christianity. This symbolism extends to the flag. The flag is based upon the famous Raven Banner. It is a grey triangle pennon with two ravens. The ravens represent both Christians and Pagans, and symbolize how Markland is the product of both cultures. Some conservative Christians, however, note that two raven could also symbolize Huginn and Muninn, the ravens of Odin. Conservative Christians have tried, unsuccessfully, to get the flag changed to include only a single raven. However, most Christin Marklanders are perfectly happy with the flag just the way it is, and think it look very nice.

On April 29th 1429 Joan of Arc arrived to relieve the Siege of Orléans.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” This ancient saying has been invoked many times throughout history, but one of the most successful examples of this logic was the Auld Alliance between France and Scotland, but what of the connections between Joan and us Scots?

Well, it is said that Joan of Arc arrived at Orléans as part of a relief force. She was accompanied by 100 men-at-arms and 400 Scottish archers. Legend has it that she marched into the city to the sound of Scottish bagpipes playing “Hey Tuttie Tatie”

There is also a train of thought Joan may have trained in Scotland, in a remote stretch of Argyll, a romantic story, but I doubt it very much.

Anyway apparently Joan “hand selected Scottish bodyguards from the Stuart, Kennedy and Hay Clans, [and] in 1429 [Joan] asked Hamish Power, (French name: Heuves Polnoir), a Scotsman living in Tours, France, to design her standard. and pennon.” More, “The Scots wore the Fleur-de-Lys on their left breast to show their allegiance to France.”

Saints of the Sword (v1-1)

(I am going to very BLUNT with this statement, even though it seems like it... THIS IS NOT an everyone betrays Jaune fic. There is much more going on including Jaune's own low sense of self-worth.)

Word of a team of Huntsmen and Huntresses set to arrive today had the school in a buzz. There had been stories of the exploits of the group, officially known as the Chevaliers, but more often not referred to as the Saints of the Sword. The stories of their inception were as varied as the very often; larger than life tales associated with them. But regardless, it was still big news, and a worthy excuse by the younger years to hang out in Beacon’s courtyard for pretty much the whole morning.

They watched as several bullheads arrived and left, but from none of them did a group of nearly legendary huntsmen and huntresses disembark. It was pushing close to midday and the cafeteria was just starting to serve lunch, when an out-of-place sound started to reach people's ears. Those teams and students that had yet to abandon the vigil waited as the creaking and clinking of metal grew in volume.

“No way!” Ruby shouted as she watched the first of a group of heavily armored figures on equally heavily armored horses climb over the low rise that was the marked, the rarely used road that connected Beacon to Vale.

“That’s them, see” Jade held up his scroll showing the image of a stylized skull impaled on a sword. The very same image emblazoned on the pennon the third rider was holding aloft upon a flagstaff.

RWBY and JNPR waited as more of the riders crested the end of the road. They all moved at a steady giant, and moved in an orderly formation. Every one of them wearing road dust covered plate and chain mail armor. Their horses wearing similarly layered barding. All except for one wore visorless closed faced helmets. The outlier’s head and face hidden with the hood of a travelling cloak.

“We should go meet them.” Nora spoke up, taking a step forward as the group of ten figures began to dismount.

“Wait.” Ren took hold of Nora’s wrist, preventing her from going any further, as he saw Professor Goodwitch approaching. “I don't think this is a good time…”

So the two teams stayed put, as did the few others, who also continued to wait longer than some of their peers. They watched as two of the figures move towards Professor Goodwitch, as two others helped the hooded one off their horse. With the remainder busying themselves gathering reigns or removing saddlebags and bedrolls.

“You’re several hours past due.” Professor Goodwitch commented as she stopped before the two figures that approached her. “Was there trouble?”

“You could say that.” replied the first one as he removed his helmet, revealing sweat slicked burnt orange hair, and stern indigo eyes. “That settlement you asked us to check on.”

“Cardin?” was the combined puzzled comment that sounded out among all those who had remained to watch the arrival of the Saints of the Sword.

“I do recall sending that request.” Goodwitch replied, knowing full well who she was speaking with.

“It wasn’t a settlement,” the other figure spoke, removing her helmet to reveal short sweat drenched strawberry blond hair, blue eyes, and fox ears. “Or it looked like one, and tried to function like one…”

“I’m not following. Our records distinctly make mention and show the founding documentation of a settlement in that area.”

“It may have been at first,” Cardin commented, “But it wasn’t when we got there.”

“What was it then?”

“Slavers.” Cardin replied. “They’ve been dealt with, we escorted all the victims here, and have handed all the recovered records to the authorities.”

“I shudder to ask what happened to the perpetrators.”

“Then don’t.” the fox faunus replied. “I’m Jeanne Denois, by the way, Professor.”
