I think my current opinion on the whole 2017 tonys discourse is that the 2016-17 season was absolutely bonkers good in terms of new musicals and none of them should have swept, they all deserved like two or three wins each. this is an anti-sweep blog, I believe in awards show communism. to each according to their needs etc etc.

#I really like the “We're the bad guys' enemy” line. For someone I generally despise Dazai has all my favourite lines in this show… #Idk I can't really vibe with the unbalance that there is between s/kk. #Like when push comes to shove‚ Dazai has the power to keep Chuuya alive or let him die. #I understand why they make a compelling dynamic in their complexity‚ but it just doesn't do it for me. #I'm a little sad my opinion on them hasn't really changed since I watched the anime for the first time... #Also; I really can't vibe with Chuuya allowing Dazai to kill Q. Yes I know Chuuya cares about his comrades deeply. #Yes I know it can be interpreted as Chuuya seeing himself in Q as a living weapon and being disgusted by it #(though I honestly don't think that was intentional of the author). #Yes I know Chuuya is a mafioso and kills people. No I don't think your personal issues justify you being a dick to other people I'm sorry. #Back to my main annoyance with the episode: I must have already talked about this but I hate hate hate the narrative #“the mafia works for the city” “the mafia deeply loves the city too” it's so so sickening and insulting please stop I'm begging. #Please visit any actual city with a rooted mafia presence for once in your life (signed: someone whose hometown was destroyed by the mafia. #The writers really don't know what they're talking about and‚ politely‚ it's offensive.) #Also b/sd keeping being extremely nationalist with Mori (who's largely depicted unsimphatetically for the first part of the episode)– #bringing up western thinkers and subtly mocking Fukuzawa for not knowing them– #and Fukuzawa (the righteous man. the noble spirit and just soul in this episode and Mori's antithesis)– #stepping forward to say that he knows strategists from the east (because who else would he need?) #I don't know if it's meant to symbolize the conflict with an hostile and invading foreign power (the Guild). #But it does come across as. A very isolationist way of thinking. #I know it's subtle but it's really evident for me. And I didn't want to talk about this any further… #But by bringing actual examples of this I hope I can better explain why I think that b/sd holds nationalist views– #and that I'm not just making it up out of nowhere. ive been rereading yugami kun yearly since i first read it in 2020 so this is already my 4th time reading it and when im not busy losing my mind about the passage of time i keep thinking, like, the series ends with yugami & chihiro graduating and then there is an epilogue chapter and the more times i read the series the more i wish there was a yugami kun 2 where we get to see yugami's adult life in as much detail as these two years of high school, it would be so fun seeing yugami interacting with stuff like going to college, living in a dorm, getting a job, having to deal with those classic family comments like when will you get married i want grandchildren etc etc, already his interactions with fellow students and his teachers are funny and bizarre imagine how fun it would be to apply that to a workplace, the series is absolutely amazing as it is but maybe the feeling i have is like im missing out on so much more good shit that happens after the end, MAYBE IM MOSTLY JUST SALTY WE NEVER GET TO SEE HOW YUGAMI WOULD TALK TO HIS BOSS AT WORK GDBSGFJ

what the heck have i just read,,,

guys, there are a lot of similarities between all the members of the party. they all are outcasts of some kind, they all share some general traits (hence why they became friends in the first place), and they're all going through similar experiences as a result of their involvement with the upside down and all that.

but they're all unique individuals who all have their own struggles and character arcs and none of them exist purely to give depth to the other -_- parallels exist to add layers to certain aspects of the character's stories and the overall narrative, not to reduce an entire character's journey to those similarities and then proceed to ignore everything else about them. that is such a shallow way to consume the source material we all enjoy :|

it's okei to like certain characters more, and it's okei to point out all the little hints the duffs have left woven throughout the entire show to hint towards what's going to happen next with certain individuals and plot lines,,,

just don't reduce the entirety of one main character's existence to some very specific moments and traits in order to justify or enrich someone else's arc >:\

I totally get all those who are wanting Robin or Steve and Nancy together (because Robin is suddenly her gal pal SUPER fast and the show seems set on having EVERYONE try to force Steve back to her, which wth?! but yeah it's there, even if I hate it) but I just can't, like, I NEED Joncy. I waited until the S4 binge to watch S3 and coming off of my first time of S3 which really deepened their relationship so soon like... nah, y'all can't take them away from me.

Shared trauma. Matching scars on their palms and matching scars in their hearts because they both had to kill their former bosses to survive, yes they were possessed by a monster and it was self defense but they still murdered people. They didn't know if it was possible to save them. And then after, when the blob went towards Nancy, Jonathan screaming desperately to get its attention to him instead. That S3 episode gave me chills, more trauma that only they can understand with each other.

Jonathan always wanting the best for her even if it kills him. Telling her that Steve asked him to take her home after the party in S2, trying to cheer her up even if it meant making Steve look better when others might have seized that opportunity to gain her favor. Him making an honest attempt to connect with Samantha at the party like Nancy suggested and maybe there could have been something there but then Nancy needed him. Not wanting to tell her he was going to a different school because he didn't want to pressure her to give up on her dreams for him. Jonathan has had to grow up long before he should have and has spent years putting his loved ones first over himself working and taking care of Will. He doesn't want even a fraction of that disappointment and deep-seated resentment for her. But his and Nancy's interests still align even if their paths are not the same so that they could still have a life together.

Nancy says in S2 she waited for him after S1, and he scoffs it was only "like a month". A month he was trying to put his family back together after they had a FUNERAL for Will. He wasn't ready for the relationship even though he had feelings for her. She learns that over time. They fight about Jonathan's needing a job and her not understanding her privilege, and they come together again stronger, the end of S3 with that hug and that talk before he left. They are two people who have been through so much together and continue to learn to understand each other and come together again better after every hurdle.

So let's do it again this time too. I need Joncy, please I like Steve no hate to him but let's leave that where it is please, I want Byler and Steddie and Robin with a girlfriend too but not Nancy, I need Joncy to survive 🥺
