The morning started out as usual, with her grumbling when Frankie’s alarm went off and him planting an affectionate kiss on her shoulder as he headed into the shower. After a few more minutes cursing the fact that she had to get out of their warm, comfy bed, she meandered into the kitchen to make coffee and breakfast.
It was her day off, so she whipped up some eggs and was working on the bacon, sipping her coffee when her freshly-laundered husband joined her in the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and kissed her cheek, warming her from the inside out.
“Morning, querida,” he said, nuzzling her neck. That was when she noticed something…different about the way he smelled. With a deep inhale, she pulled his scent into her lungs. He smelled like his shampoo and clean clothes, but there was something deeper to it. New. Sensual. Spicy. Woody.
“Are you sniffing me?” he asked, stepping back so she could turn to face him.
“Yeah,” she said, “Come here.” She flicked the burner off and leaned toward him, but he leaned back out of her reach. She leaned again and he stepped away, so she grabbed a fistful of his shirt and pulled him toward her. He obliged and muttered something about ‘can’t get enough of me,’ under his breath.
“You smell different.”
“Bad different?” he asked.
“No, I like it. What is it?”
She hadn’t noticed any bottles of cologne in the bathroom and Frankie hadn’t changed shampoos or body wash since before they had met. In fact, Frankie was a very low-maintenance man when it came to toiletries — his showers were quick, efficient, utilitarian. She always figured that was a lingering remnant of his Army days.
He ran a hand over the scruff along his jawline, “You mentioned some beard burn along your inner thighs, so I got some stuff to soften it up.”
Now that he’d pointed it out, she could see a faint sheen along the hairs. A large grin broke on her face. The beard burn hadn’t been bad at all, but she noticed the red marks in the shower and only brought them up to tease him about his enthusiasm for going down on her.
“How thoughtful of you,” she demurred.
He winked at her and went to pour himself coffee in his beat-up travel mug, “What will I think of next, hmm?”
Moving toward him, she pulled his face toward hers and ran her nose along his jaw, taking in the delicious scent of the beard balm. The woody spiciness mixed with his natural warm Frankie smell made for a heady combination, and she planted her lips onto his in a searing kiss. He put his hands on her waist and like a cat she pressed herself against the broad expanse of his body, whining when he pushed her away.
“Much as I’d love to continue, I’m gonna be late for work,” he said, apology lacing his words. She pouted and he chuckled, leaning over to kiss her cheek. “You keep thinkin’ what you’re thinkin’ though. I’ll see you tonight.”
With another stolen kiss and whiff of his new scent, she let him go. She got back to making breakfast for herself to the sound of his old truck starting.
The scent of him lingered, even after she’d taken her own shower. She found the beard balm in his basket of toiletries while she was applying her skin care. It was a black glass jar with a twist-off lid. The label, also black, said ‘Black Oud Beard Balm’ in a minimalist font. The brand logo was etched onto the lid, but wasn’t one she recognized. She opened the jar and sniffed it, almost immediately regretting the decision.
Fuck, it smelled so good. So seductive and earthy and intriguing, leathery and woody and so sensual she could practically feel Frankie’s hands running all over her. The thought sent shivers down her spine and she closed the jar, putting it back where she’d found it before she got too turned on to go about her day.
The scent, however, seemed to have branded itself into her nostrils, distracting her while she ran errands and took care of some day-off chores. Every inhale, there it was. The intoxicating scent and the promise it carried — a softer beard, more time with his face between her legs doing what he did best.
By early afternoon, enough was enough. She went upstairs, grabbed her clit stimulator from the nightstand, and laid down on the bed. It wasn’t ideal, but it would at least tide her over until Frankie got home.
An hour later, she was hornier than when she’d started and the toy was in the bathroom sink, having run out of battery.
She glared at the jar, choosing to blame her dissatisfaction on it rather than on her own forgetfulness when it came to charging their sex toys.
All that was left to do was finish up the chores and wait. She returned to the living room and focused on folding the rest of the laundry while she caught up on episodes of her hate-watch reality dating show.
Still, the edges of the scent haunted her.
Frankie couldn’t get home fast enough.
No sooner had he stepped through the door and put down his things than she was on him, kissing his face and neck and guiding him blindly through the house toward their bedroom. The way his weight landed on top of her on their bed. The way he smelled — that fucking beard balm plus a hard day’s work and his irresistible Frankieness — had utterly ruined her panties.
“What’s gotten into you, huh?” he asked as he rose onto his knees to yank his shirt off, noting the dark spot on her panties. He hooked a finger under them and pulled them down her legs, a smile rising on his lips. “So wet already, I haven’t even touched you yet.”
“I know,” she replied, “Been thinking about you all day. Need you.”
“I’m right here, darlin’,” he said, lowering his face and teasing her folds with light licks and kisses that made her keen. He always started out by teasing her like this, his hands holding her legs open and stroking along her thighs.
“Please, Frankie,” she moaned, “Been smelling you all day, I need you. Please!”
His head popped up and he looked at her, an eyebrow raising as he asked, “Smelling me?”
She nodded, “That new beard stuff. The smell lingered around me all day. Left me kinda horny.”
“I can see that,” he smirked, his dimple appearing as he dipped a finger into her folds.
She moaned at the contact, “Would you eat me out already?”
“Your wish is my command, amor,” he purred, knowing how much the Spanish terms of endearment turned her on, before dragging his tongue through her sex.
She loved this. Frankie always ate her out like it was his goddamn job, so much so that she thought he enjoyed it more than she did. Each stroke of his tongue made her legs tremble, even more so when he latched himself to her clit and teased her opening with his fingers, slowly sliding two fingers into her and finding the spot within her that made her see stars.
He expertly played with her, leading her toward the edge and back a few times before all but shoving her over it. She came with an ear-splitting, shuddering cry that left her hoarse. During the aftershocks, he kept flicking her clit with his tongue — drawing out her pleasure for as long as possible, sending fireworks through her veins until she whimpered and pushed his face away from her.
Frankie kissed the skin of her inner thigh, looking up at her with eyes full of love and a smug smirk on his cum-soaked lips.
“So,” he said, “keep the new beard stuff?”
Exhaustedly, she replied, “Oh yeah.”

Concerned citizen's sermon
A short fic inspired by @just-eyris-things post! Hope you'll like it!
1328 AE - Divinity's Reach - Evergreen Manor
Tumblr media
Anwen closed the gazette with a huff. The rasp in her breath came a little too loud because Trahearne's eyes lifted from his own reading to set on her.
"Is something bothering you?"
"It's nothing. Just... you know... Mundane nonsense."
"Did we make it to the scandal page yet again?", he asked amused, and reached for the pamphlet before Anwen could stop him.
His smile faded, a darkness veiling his gaze.
'Essay on Magics of Tyria: Why Necromancy Should Be Forbidden Everywhere, by Laura Nicharovaya'
"I wish I could say that's new... Necromancy has always been a very misunderstood discipline, met with repulsion from the uninitiated..."
"I'm sorry, I didn't want you to see that..."
"Anwen...", he stared pointedly. "Dearheart, you needn't constantly stand between me and the world."
"Should the world be cruel to you? Yes, I do."
She stood and slithered behind him to lay a kiss on his leaves.
"And I always will."
The Firstborn leaned in her touch with a smile, before turning his attention to the gazette again.
"The author does point interesting arguments. Most ancient Orrian tombs and some proto Krytian tombs — those dating back to Mazdak's rule — were carved with seals and runes, protecting the departed against necromancy. A precaution born of practicality rather than superstition — Mazdak almost never ascended to the throne because a zealous vizir concerned with keeping his rank and status rose the king from the dead and kept the late monarch as a minion for years! Those spells did not preserve the interred from Zaithan's corruption, unfortunately... But the Decree of 1222 is merely a natural continuation to..."
Anwen listened intently, enamoured with the way his features enlightened with a warm honeyed glow the deeper he went in lore, the farther he traced back in time...
But she could not shake that bitter feeling, a sense of foreboding as the black letters on yellowed paper of the pamphlet stared right back at her.
The world was changing.
The dragons were not stars in the sky. One day, they would kill the last of them. Only then would Tyria be safe.
But such is the nature of people... They would seek new battles to fight, new enemies to fell, new wars to lose.
A line from an old play Faren had practised for, eons ago it seemed, came to her loud and clear despite the years long passed. The story of a bard, in a city fallen prey to prejudice and persecution.
They come after the necromancers, then all magicians, and then everyone, everything they deem different.
So, eventually, no artist is safe...

More important than the election, in my opinion.
More important than the election, in my opinion.
The appointment of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court, in my opinion, is more important than the election of a President of the United States. I am posting this article from the Washington Post for your review.
A gun rights decision provides a preview of the justice Amy Coney Barrett might be, both liberals and conservatives agree
Judge Amy Coney Barrett acknowledges that the decision she considers most significant in her relatively short time as a judge “sounds kind of radical”: She doesn’t believe the Constitution gives government the authority to ban all felons from owning guns.
One gun law expert calls the opinion an “audition tape” for the Supreme Court nomination she received, and Democrats plan to argue at Barrett’s confirmation hearings beginning Monday that it puts her far outside the mainstream. Even, they say, to the right of her conservative former boss, the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
“She is extreme on this issue,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “She would go much farther than her mentor Scalia did in striking down common sense measures.”
[Amy Coney Barrett, disciple of Scalia, is poised to move Supreme Court to right]
Supporters are enthusiastic about Barrett’s 37-page dissent in Kanter v. Barr, in which she argues only those shown to be dangerous may be stripped of their Second Amendment rights to guns, and that simply being convicted of a felony is not enough.
The opinion “shows that she takes the Constitution’s text and history seriously,” said Ilya Shapiro of the libertarian Cato Institute, and is committed to “holding the government’s feet to the fire” when individual rights are at stake.
The opinion — even some liberals who worry about its implications praise its craftsmanship — provides a preview of the kind of Supreme Court justice the 48-year-old former Notre Dame law professor would make.
For one, it shows a deep commitment to “originalist” interpretation of the Constitution, the method used by Justices Clarence Thomas and President Trump’s other Supreme Court choices, Neil M. Gorsuch and Brett M. Kavanaugh, to most often reach conservative outcomes.
Certainly it indicates that, if confirmed, Barrett would likely cement a majority more open to reexamining gun control laws that states and cities say are necessary for public safety and that critics contend crimp constitutional rights. Conservative justices have been itching to take on one of the court’s most controversial topics.
[Supreme Court passes up challenges to gun laws]
And Barrett’s Kanter dissent shows boldness and a propensity for casting off established readings of the law.
She had been on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit less than a year when the case arrived before her. But she used it to sharply question federal and state laws that have been in place for decades.
She rejected the arguments of the Trump administration’s Justice Department and broke with the views of two fellow Republican-nominated judges on the appellate panel who brought a combined 72 years of experience.
Barrett looked at Scalia’s important caveat in the 2008 landmark decision establishing an individual right to gun ownership — “nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill” — and saw daylight.
The court’s 5-to-4 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller only offered that up as part of a list of “presumptively” lawful measures, Barrett noted.
“The constitutionality of felon dispossession was not before the court in Heller, and because it explicitly deferred analysis of this issue, the scope of its assertion is unclear,” she wrote.
© Kevin Clark/The Washington Post Dick Heller after winning his case at the Supreme Court in 2008.
So she and her clerks set out to do their own analysis, she told a group of students at conservative Hillsdale College last year.
“I had to do a pretty deep dive into the history of the Second Amendment,” she said. Founding-era legislatures were concerned with keeping weapons from those considered dangerous, she concluded, but just being convicted of a certain level of crime was not enough.
“That sounds kind of radical, to say felons can have firearms,” Barrett told the students, but she said her examination found “no blanket authority just to take guns” without showing the person was dangerous.
At the same time, she said, government may take away certain civic rights, such as voting or the ability to serve on a jury, upon being convicted of a crime.
Her position on the felon dispossession issue is at odds with nearly all other federal appeals court decisions on the issue.
Barrett’s elevation to the Supreme Court would pose a “real risk that the court has a majority making decisions to overturn hugely popular laws that save lives. We have an epidemic of gun violence in this country and this kind of reasoning ignores that,” said Kris Brown, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, noting Barrett listed the dissent first among her 10 most significant cases in her Senate questionnaire.
But Alan Morrison, a George Washington University law professor who was among the lawyers who defended the District of Columbia’s strict handgun ban that the Supreme Court struck down in Heller, thinks Barrett may be right.
“I agree with her conclusion that if you have a Second Amendment right — and I still have my doubts about it — then surely you ought to worry about people who are going to do dangerous things with guns,” Morrison said.
The plaintiff in the case “may be a crook, but there is no evidence that he is going to be dangerous,” Morrison said.
Rickey Kanter, from Mequon, Wis., pleaded guilty in 2011 to a single count of mail fraud for selling therapeutic shoe inserts that he misrepresented as Medicare-approved through his “Dr. Comfort” business. He was sentenced to a year and one day in prison, ordered to pay $50,000 and to reimburse Medicare over $27 million in a related civil settlement.
After Kanter served his time and paid the penalties, he challenged state and federal laws that prevented him as a felon from ever owning a gun.
It was a case gun-control groups worried about. “There was a real concern in the gun safety community that challengers were identifying very sympathetic plaintiffs in an effort to chip away at the effectiveness of the felon regime,” said Washington lawyer Deepak Gupta, who filed an amicus brief in the case for the group Everytown for Gun Safety.
Felon possession bans “are at the heart of background-check systems, concealed-carry licensing schemes, and many arrests and prosecutions for firearms offenses,” the brief said. “Kanter’s arguments would fatally undermine these systems.”
Judges Joel Flaum and Kenneth Francis Ripple, nominated to the 7th Circuit by President Ronald Reagan, ruled for the government. They said the federal and Wisconsin laws banning felons were sufficiently related to the government’s goal of keeping guns out of the hands of those convicted of serious crimes.
The government had justified the restrictions with studies showing higher recidivism rates among those convicted of even nonviolent felonies, they said. Moreover, courts are not equipped to predict which nonviolent felons pose a risk and which do not, they wrote.
“The highly individualized approach Kanter proposes raises serious institutional and administrative concerns,” Flaum wrote, noting Congress told the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to abandon a program in which nonviolent felons could seek to have their gun rights restored as too time consuming and costly.
Barrett had a different take, after a six-month and exhaustive historical review. It touches on early state constitutions, founding-era documents and dictionaries and ancient law, such as the 1328 Statute of Northampton — the ancient English statute regulating the carrying of weapons.
She also quotes the colorful line from a law review written by UCLA professor Adam Winkler: “It is hard to imagine how banning Martha Stewart or Enron’s Andrew Fastow from possessing a gun furthers public safety.”
Winkler, the author of the book “Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America” and the one who compared Barrett’s dissent to an audition tape, agrees with the judge’s conclusion.
But he said it arguably envisions broader Second Amendment protections than provided by Scalia, who characterized the individual right to own a gun as belonging to “law-abiding, responsible citizens.”
Barrett’s reliance on historical precedent, Winkler said, could jeopardize modern-era policies like “red flag” laws that allow law enforcement officials to remove guns from people at risk of harming themselves or others, and bans on machine guns first passed in the 1980s.
“I don’t think Justice Barrett is going to say you have a constitutional right to machine guns, but this is the question raised by her approach,” Winkler said. “It cuts off innovative reforms and calls into question certain laws.”
Clark Neily of Cato, one of the lawyers who challenged the D.C. law in Heller, said Barrett’s detailed opinion suggests the view: “I know this is a high profile case that will get a lot of attention, and I’m going to walk you through my precise thought pattern, so you won’t have to guess why I came to this conclusion.”
Without Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Neily added, “there’s no doubt that on balance the court can be expected to be more favorable to cases presenting Second Amendment claims.” But he said he would not expect the court to move quickly.
In its last term, though, several of the court’s conservative justices expressed frustration that the court has provided no guidance on Second Amendment issues for a decade; Thomas frequently complains gun rights receive less attention from his colleagues than abortion rights.
Still, the court refused to take up nearly a dozen cases in which gun rights groups claimed restrictions violated Second Amendment rights.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. is thought not to be excited about the prospect of more gun cases. He is the only conservative justice who at one point or another has not publicly disagreed with the court’s decision not to accept a gun-control case.
But Barrett could change the math, and conservatives would no longer need the chief to count to five votes.

State of my Tyria
What happened to Nightmare court (post 1328 AE)
After Mordy died, what basically happened was a power vacuum. Faolain was killed, Cadeyrn is MIA, most of the high ranking Courtiers have fallen into mordremhood, leaving the weak legions alone in Tyria.
The few barons and counts and countesses and baronesses and such have fought over the position of Grand Duke/Duchess, and as such, have split into many, many smaller camps of tiny nightmares.
The organised camps you see in Tyria are still present, but they do not communicate with one another, and see their neighbours as enemies, to be exterminated, and do not hesitate to wipe their camps and take their prisoners to convert them to their idea of Nightmare.
Since that has happened, the threat of the court has lessened AND greatened (is that a word?) at the same time. They didn’t have enough manpower to attack the Grove, but as such, they have to settle for buying slaves, kidnapping sylvari from smaller villages, the Soundless have gotten even MORE endangered now, and the raids are more prevalent than before, as the camps are desperately trying to restock on manpower.
Since that has been happening, one of the Commanders, Akura, has decided he will start funding more protection and make sure all villages are either relocated to a more safer location or are properly protected by trained Wardens, instead of the volunteers with makeshift weapons and armour.
He wanted to make sure all that shizz was really happening, so he left most of the commandeering to his partner in crime, Chaton, the other Commander, until they call for him for all the major events (PoF, Joko -which was a real shitshow lemme tell ya- , Kralkatorrik and now the whole Jormag shishkabang)
When he wasn’t busy with that, however, he had hundreds of sylvari being taught how to defend themselves and relocated them around the whole eastern maguuma, to every sylvari village, and if that village was basically undefendable, he told the residents to relocate.
That (obviously) was met with disdain and grumpy shouts of “Hey, we wanna stay in our original home!” to which the answer was “Do you wanna die by their hand, or do you wanna live somewhere where it’s safe?”, but he made sure they were properly supported and helped to get their bussiness back up and running (since Akura has money he mostly never uses, he just shoved it all into that).
Of course, as that was happening, there was a big danger of the moving residents being attacked, kidnapped, and enslaved, and in the beginning stages there wasn’t enough manpower to go around, so such things did come to pass. In one such accident, Eiladhur, a Warden that guarded a recluse village in Caledon, where his lover resided, was met with grief as he saw first hand how cruel desperate courtiers can be. Almost the whole party was decimated, the weakest kidnapped, and Eiladhur’s lover killed, leaving him and few survivors be met with the harsh reality of when help comes too late.  As their support has arrived just one day after the attack.
While these accidents weren’t common, they made enough people dislike Akura, just for the fact his actions caused their loved ones and families to be kidnapped and/or killed. His reputation of a hero and a saviour was tarnished, but he didn’t mind as long as most were safe. Because when he was sure that villagers weren’t in danger, he moved the best warriors (and those who volunteered after they got sufficient training) to go and erase the courtier camps off the maps, even taking part in some of the raids.
As that was happening, the Courtiers now have realized that if they don’t do something, the Commander is going to kill every single nightmare courtier and he won’t stop at nothing, and so
Their answer to Akura’s action is that they are starting to band together, it’s not a democratic voting, oh no, only the strongest among them will get to the top, and they will have a bunch of revenge drooling bastards by their side, ready to take on the Commander and pay back what they owe.
Until I get news of how NC is doing, I’ll keep making shit like this up, soooo

Am I writing a happy mothers day post to myself? Hell yeah I am.
When I was in high school, I did not think I was going to have kids. They were loud they were obnoxious, they always smelled weird and they were ALWAYS sticky. No idea how, but they always managed to be sticky. Even when Ryder and I got married, I let him know that we would be the couple that jet set. We’d go on vacations, we would maybe be the cool aunt and uncle, but we would never hear the words ‘mommy’ or ‘daddy’.
Then I got pregnant.
I realized, almost twenty four years ago now, that I was feeling sick, my period was late, I was hoping I had some rare weird deadly virus and I did, eight months later we named it Kylie. But as soon as I saw that second line on the pregnancy test I knew that I was wrong. I knew that I was meant to be a mom. I knew that I would love this baby with all my heart and soul. I would never love anything or anyone more.
I was wrong.
Turns out there is room for four (five) in my heart.
Becoming a mom was the best thing to ever happen to me.

Lost
An Ant-Man and the Wasp fic. It contains spoilers for the movie, so I’ll put it under the break. Be careful reading on if you haven’t seen the movie!
So, that post-credits scene, huh? The movie was awesome and it lulled me into this false sense of security. I had completely forgotten about "The Snap" and then, BAM! It reared its ugly head. I saw quite a few fics take place immediately after the movie, but none for after the post-credits scene and I felt, in all my wisdom (har-har) that we needed to face it head on! I hope you like this! Only a little less than a year till Avengers 4! If it helps, just think about all the tearful reunions that we're going to get in that movie (Scott and Hope finally seeing eachother again after all that time? Sign me UP)!
Day 1327
Or was that 1326? Did it matter? Are there even days in the quantum zone? Why wasn’t he growing a beard? Cassie would like it if he grew a beard he was pretty sure. How did Janet manage to have fantastic eyeshadow after 30 years down here?
Currently, these were the questions that Scott was humoring himself with while sitting and waiting by a globby piece of geometry. Certainly, there was plenty to do, none of which he could really make sense of, let alone explain. He was a mechanical engineer after all, not a quantum physicist like… Hope. He liked to focus on eyeshadow and beards and Cassie and magic quantum healing juice and all the other crazy stuff he’s seen precisely because he didn’t want to think of Hope. Thinking of Janet was a little too close for comfort as it was but, dammit, that smoky eye was incredible.
He learned early on that tugging on that particular thread would do him no good. After he realized he was stranded, he had spent at least a month trying to figure out exactly what had happened. He had been talking to Hank, and everything had been excellent and then... it wasn’t.
Initially, Scott had thought it was just a simple mess-up. Ant-thony Hopkins accidentally tripped the generator, or Gr-Ant Imahara had gotten excited and snipped the chord to the radio, but that idea slipped away as the hours piled up and turned into days.
As the days turned into weeks his thoughts turned darker, try as he might to stop himself. Maybe Jimmy Woo had busted them? Scott might’ve gotten lucky with fooling Woo while he was under house arrest, but he knew the FBI agent was not to be underestimated. But even Woo would’ve let them finish extracting Scott. Even if he had been stubborn about it, Hope would’ve worn him down after a day or two of constant requests. Hank might’ve thought it was funny, but even he would’ve insisted after a week. Maybe two.
Well, maybe there had been an earthquake? The parking garage they were situated on wasn’t exactly new and probably wasn’t up to code. Perhaps the tunnel had been crushed in the van? How quickly could they rebuild it? It hadn’t been easy to put together it in the first place, especially now that their options in component dealers had been shaved. Maybe Hope or Hank or Janet had gotten hurt in the aftershock or maybe even…
No, Scott wouldn’t consider that possibility. His grip on reality was already tenuous enough, to consider something like that would push him too far. So he didn’t think about it. He had long ago come to the conclusion that he wasn’t going to be able to solve why he was stuck in this itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny slice of… something witty. He had run out of jokes in the middle of the second year. Even in prison, he had had Luis and the others to joke with.
So, Scott thought about beards and eyeshadow and Cassie. Especially Cassie. Peanut kept him grounded and sane even if he wasn’t 100 percent sure he was going to make it out of here. Even after 1328 days, he could still see her with perfect clarity. He hadn’t lied to Hope when he had told her that he could’ve been in jail for a hundred years and never forgotten her face.
And there was that name again. If thinking of Peanut kept Scott together, thinking of Hope threatened to break him apart. Scott knew from experience that thinking of her would just drive him mad with want and desire, not only to feel her body against his again but to also know what had happened to her, to help her if he could, and the crushing reality of being stuck in the quantum realm would just come down that much harder. Thinking of her smile, or the smell of her hair fresh out of the shower, or the bruise she could put on him during a sparring session, would definitely be enough to drive him insane.
Maybe that’s why he was sitting where he was at this particular moment? And why he had been keeping track of the patterns of the various time warps he had seen in his 1325 days in the quantum realm? He had had Hope on the mind a lot lately.
Janet might have told him to stay away from the time warps because they wouldn’t be able to bring him out, but they obviously weren’t there to bring him out anyways. Maybe he’d get lucky and pop out a day or so after he first got trapped here? Or better yet, a day or so before. He could help then, with whatever it was that had kept them from getting him out in the first place.
Just on cue, the time warp phased into existence. Giant and wobbly and unknowable and threatening. He hadn’t given them a close look before, he’d been too afraid of them. But he was ready to do something. He couldn’t be down here for another 27 years, waiting for Cassie to grow up and become a brilliant quantum scientist just to come searching for him.
So it was with the thought of the two most important ladies in his life that Scott got up and rocketed himself toward the unknown, whatever and whenever that might be.

Exploring the outer boroughs of Munich by foot
Munich, Germany has just too much to see for one blog post, so we split it into two. There is one for the historic center and this one covers the rest of the city. Make sure to read up on both to get the most of your time in Munich.
Guide to the Outer Boroughs of Munich
Top Attractions in Greater Munich
Englischer Garten
If it is sunny and warm day, especially during the late spring or summer, spend some time exploring and walking through the English Garden. As one of Europe’s largest urban public parks, there are endless walking paths and green areas to rest or picnic. Within the gardens, there are several spots not to be missed:
Chinese Tower: The Chinese Towerwas designed to resemble a traditional Chinese pagoda. Surrounding the tower is the second largest bier garden in Munich. Enjoy a cold beer and some delicious bavarian foods in the warm sun.
Monopteros: Walking further south is the Monopteros, a small greek style temple built atop a small hill. From the hill you can get great panoramic views of the skyline of Munich.
Eisbach: Right at the southern tip of the Englischer Garten is the man-made Eisbach river flowing through the park. At its entrance to the park is a standing wave, a popular spot for surfers. It is quite interesting to see surfers in wet suits in the middle of a green park at the center of a city!
Viktualienmarkt
Whether or not you are looking for fresh food, head on over to the Viktualienmarkt. This open air market is full of endless rows of fruits and vegetable vendors.
Augustiner Brewery
The Augustiner Brewery is Munich’s oldest independent brewery, established back to 1328 inside a monastery. Head on over to their traditional Bavarian restaurant for a more local atmosphere and prices!
Augustiner Brewery is also one of the staple tents at Oktoberfest, not to be missed if that is your reason for visiting Munich.
Theresienwiese
The name Theresienwiese might not sound familiar, but Oktoberfest should! Theresienwiese is the location of this famous beer festival and many other festivals throughout the year. When we were in Berlin it was the middle of Frühlingsfest, a spring festival similar, but smaller than the one in October.
Deutsches Museum
If you are a lover of museums, science or just having fun, there is something for everyone at the Deutsches Museum. It is the largest museum of science and technology in the whole world! There are so many exhibits to see that you can spend the entire day there.
Tickets are €11 for adults and the museum is open daily from 9AM to 5PM.  Make sure to set aside most of a day to visit or take advantage of a rainy day in Munich.
BMW Plant Tour
If you are a fan or fanatic about cars, your visit to Munich will not be complete without a tour of the BMW Plant. Head inside the famed factory for a behind the scene look at how the automobiles are built from the ground up.
Tickets are €9 per person. Reservations are required for the tour as they sell out well in advance. Make sure to get your reservation done online as soon as you know the dates you will be visiting Munich. There are many dates the tour does not run throughout the year, so check out their website for the most up to date information.
If you are not interested in cars, skip the tour to spend more time exploring all that Munich has to offer.
Olympic Park
The tragic events of the 1972 Munich Olympics will go down in history. However, the olympic park has rebuilt itself as a modern destination. Across the massive park there are many different places to see and tour. For just €7 per person, you can head up the Olympic Tower for panoramic views of the city as far out as the Alps on a clear day!
Allianz Arena
For those who want to witness the home of the FC Bayern, head on over to the Allianz Arena to tour the facilities. Take a guided tour of one of the most modern stadiums in all of Europe and immerse yourself into the history of the greatest team in Germany.
Remember to check out the historic center of Munich guide for a complete experience for your trip!

Healing I
*Was written July 27… many things have changed since then.
Lately I’ve taken some time to do a social media detox which has been very eye opening for me. It is easy to get caught up in scrolling through fake news, advertisements, and seeing others around you posting about their “happiness”. Some of these values are called “junk values” thanks to the author Johann Hari, who uses the term to explain that it contributes to making us “mentally sick”.
Here is a short clip on “junk values”:
youtube
As a student and researcher, I was constantly on my phone scrolling through the unlimited amount of information, which became an addiction. I knew it was getting out of hand when I started being in denial about the amount of time spent on my device. I watched a podcast of Joe Rogan and Whitney Cummings (#1328), and Cummings suggests changing the settings on your devices to black and white because when your phone has the original colour settings on your display, the colours are addictive to look at and it keeps you “hooked”. I attempted this for about four days and noticed a huge decline in the usage of my device.
I became deeply depressed on where I was in life. My job ended in April, and when I attempted to start a new one, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. I went to numerous job interviews but nothing was reaching my interest or contributed to a “meaningful” cause.
School became my number one priority, which was not entirely a good thing. I would constantly be ruminating over having lower marks, I could barely type essays (and the ones that I did type, good lord they were horrible), and I was walking around with “brain fog”, I could barely comprehend what was going on.
I met someone and I started living on what I call “autopilot”. I wasn’t myself at all, and I started to become more open to criticism, accepting any type of critique but not putting my foot down and saying “no”. I stopped eating because I wanted to look more “fit” at the gym. I also stopped sleeping consistently because of not eating and being hungry at night, and I would wake up in the middle of the night depressed. I lost who I was entirely, and this was because my core confidence was beaten down so low. I started having suicidal thoughts, contributed to writing my suicide letter (after numerous revisions), and would walk around pondering what the best method was to end everything.
Nobody is perfect, which is a hard concept to grasp as a perfectionist. I constantly strive to do things properly, go above and beyond, and work the hardest that I can. This is in every aspect of my life regarding work, school, and relationships. But once you put all of your energy into everything and everyone else, it leaves you empty. How was I supposed to become a potential counsellor if I could barely take care of myself? How was I supposed to take care of others if I couldn’t take care of myself?
I was very empty. My core confidence was gone, and I wasn’t the woman I once was. I could see it in my face when I looked in the mirror. When other people would tell me I looked great, I would start to tear up because I felt the exact opposite. I even started crying when I would go to the gym because I would ruminate over how much better my body could be.
I started to realize how necessary it is to be selfish with your own time and with what you want to do. I started to realize that when I was more confident and believed in myself, I started getting somewhere and things started happening in a positive way for me. When I was depressed, it seemed like everything would go wrong.
Healing is a very personal journey. Healing for me involves grief – mostly grief over losing the person I once was. I am slowly starting to bounce back. I cried for three days straight. I started forcing myself to eat, even if I did not want to. I started trying out a sleep schedule to get my system back on track. I even ended up deactivating Facebook and Instagram and have felt amazing about this choice. At first it was a difficult decision to make, but after about three days I have never felt better because I don’t have the pressure of comparing myself and my success to others.
I also started to realize my self-worth. The right people find you once you accept and love yourself fully. When I started focusing on “me” again, saying no, and recognizing that I had completely been led around by what I would call a “narcissist”, who would constantly leave me questioning my self worth.
This person would lead me on and then disappear. They would make comments about other women to make me jealous, and once I did become more insecure from this… I was to blame for being jealous. They also did not take any interest in my hobbies, music, writing, or friend groups. They claimed I wouldn’t open up… yet they would not ask any questions that implied that they were interested. They were not there for me as a friend… or when I needed someone the most. To make a long story short… once I was separated from them I realized the control they tried to impede on me to make themselves feel better. Once they left, I started feeling better by not having them around.
The underlying lesson I learned was from one of my favorite life coaches Matthew Hussey. Unrequited love is a turn off. Why do we romanticize when someone treats us like shit?
Build your own castle. Others can help you build this castle too. However, if someone isn’t there building a castle with you... it’s like having a contractor that doesn’t show up for work. They aren’t putting the effort in and it doesn’t lead to a solid foundation.

Relief for Immigrants, Attempts to Deter Foreign Election Interference and Failed Resolutions to Condemn Foreign Arms Sales
Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act, 2019 (HR 3401) – This legislation provides $4.5 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations to federal departments and agencies for humanitarian assistance and security to respond to migrants attempting to enter the United States at the southern border for the rest of the fiscal year. This funding is available for appropriations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Health and Human Services for the Administration for Children and Families. The bill also includes requirements and restrictions for how the funds may be used. It was introduced on June 21 by Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) and was signed into law by the president on July 1.
Northern Mariana Islands Long-Term Legal Residents Relief Act (HR 559) – This bill grants resident status to certain aliens who have resided continuously and lawfully in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands since Nov. 28, 2009. The bill was introduced by Gregorio Sablan (D-Representative for the CNMI) on Jan. 25 and signed into law by the president on June 25.
A bill to amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to clarify the obligation to report acts of foreign election influence and require implementation of compliance and reporting systems by presidential campaigns to detect and report such acts. (S 2242) – This bill was introduced on July 23 by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA). It is in the first stage of the legislative process and will be considered by committee before possibly being sent to the Senate for a vote.
A bill to protect elections for public office by providing financial support and enhanced security for the infrastructure used to carry out such elections, and for other purposes (S 2238) – This bill was introduced on July 23 by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). It is in the first stage of the legislative process and will be considered by committee before possibly being sent to the Senate for a vote.
DETER Act (S 1328) – Introduced by Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) on May 6, this bill is designed to block any foreign persons from entering the United States whose intent is to interfere in a United States election. The bill passed in the Senate on June 3 and is currently with the House for consideration.
Joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval of the proposed transfer and/or export of … certain defense articles and services (SJ 36, 37, 38) – Three joint resolutions were introduced by Rep. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on June 5 designed to condemn the presidential administration for initiating the sale of arms to various countries, including the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Two of the three bills passed in both branches (one was not put up for vote in the Senate) in late June. However, all three were vetoed by the president on July 24. No override attempt is expected.
Protecting Affordable Mortgages for Veterans Act of 2019 (S 1749) – On July 25, the president signed a bill into law that enables veteran homebuyers to borrow above the current cap of $484,350 (for most counties) without a down payment. The legislation was introduced on June 5 by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and was passed by both houses in Congress within four days.

White asparagus, to you peasants
After five days floating up the Danube River from Vienna aboard the Avalon Impression river boat, our final two days in Munich seemed anti-climactic. (Part #1 and Part #2.)
Our Vicki McKenna/Fox Travel tour was off the water and in a big city hotel, albeit the upper echelon Munich Sofitel, right next door to the downtown train station. But the change of venue gave us a chance to experience the local restaurant and unique beer hall scene. We had taken all but one of our meals the previous five days aboard ship. (Excellent, though they were.) Now we could eat and drink with the natives and the many other tourists.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
German food is part of my DNA and Blaska is German-Bohemian for “beer.” Munich (München as the natives call it) is famous for its Oktoberfest and our tour bus took us past the vast grounds that host this event.
Hitler first made his name with his failed beer hall putsch here in 1923 at the Bürgerbräukeller, which was pulled down in 1979. (Not because of any PC-correctness but because the place was ramshackle.) Imprisoned at nearby Landsberg Prison, he wrote Mein Kampf.
Six major brands are brewed in Munich: Löwenbräu, Paulaner, Hacker Pschorr, Spaten, Hofbräuhaus, and the beer our guide suggested was the local favorite, Augustiner — first brewed by Augustinian monks in 1328.
All German beer is subject to what has been called the world’s first pure food and drug regulation: the Reinheitsgebot, first promulgated  It demands only four ingredients: water, grain (barley and or wheat), hops and yeast. (Not rice!)
The best beer is cold, fresh and never bottled. Save the fruit for dessert.
Before even checking in, we took lunch at Munchner Stubn, conveniently located right across Bayerstrasse from the hotel. Of course, with beer! Their brand: Paulaner. Of the many varieties, we decided to specialize in Dunkels so as to compare the various brands. Dunkel is a malty, dark beer like Guinness with a foamy head — lighter tasting than it looks.
The meal, best I can recall, consisted of several wursts, red cabbage, sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), and Spätzle (a kind of pasta). We were told that hamburgers are growing in popularity, spawned by the Mickie D’s and Burger King franchises but with the typical Germanic attention to detail. Wish we had tried one of the local variants.
A dozen blocks due east of the Sofitel directly on Bayerstrasse lies Munich’s Old Town, a warren of twisty streets and almost non-existent sidewalks and, seemingly, churches and beer halls. We witnessed the jousting knights of the Glockenspiel on the so-called new town hall built in 1908 but looking centuries older on the Marienplatz (Mary’s plaza).
The top half of the Glockenspiel tells the story of the marriage of Duke Wilhelm V who (according to Wikipedia) founded the nearby Hofbräuhaus in 1589.
Our tour took us through the latter establishment, huge, rambling, and noisy like Madison’s Kollege Klub on old State Street but many times larger. Almost a Grand Central Station of beer mugs. But Squire Blaska has aged out of that scene. (Our tour also took us to the Nymphenburg Palace and it was starting to discover that the noble family still lives in it. To their credit, the Wittlesbachs — once kings of Bavaria — opposed Hitler and spent time in Dachau for their troubles.)
Weather the next day was much improved and we took off on foot to visit the Old Town at our own pace.
We spent unhurried time at St. Peter’s Cathedral, dating to 1368. Delightfully, its organ was playing as your raconteur soaked in the scene from the baroque altar to the painting of St. Peter’s crucifixion on the ceiling. I dropped a 2 Euro coin into the box. Could heaven be as beautiful?
But this post is about food. The lovely Lisa remembered seeing a more intimate beer hall not far from the Hofbrauhaus. After some hunting and pecking, we found it: the Augustiner am Platzl. Its name suggested its beer. As with all (or most, far as I know) beer halls and gardens in Munich, it specializes in one brand. The Augustiner on Platzl street is a cozy place with the familiar fluted ceiling-support columns like the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s student union copy, the Rathskeller. We loved the ambience and service was always attentive. True everywhere we ate.
We also stopped at a Hacker-Pschorr beer hall and that was wonderful as well.
We ventured into the Viktualienmarkt, an open-air market of over 100 tents and small sheds selling fresh fruit, cheese, and SPARGEL! Spears of asparagus thick as a weight-lifter’s thumb— not green but off-white.
Spargelzeit! It’s a delicacy here in Bavaria, available from mid-April to mid-June. It’s almost a cult! Tough to grow; machines need not apply. A labor of love; mounded up with earth to prevent chlorophyl and picked by hand.
Also across Bayerstrasse from our hotel was another restaurant with the nonGermanic name of Fleming’s. Modern and quiet, the German food was nonetheless impeccable. But what caught our attention was its special, seasonal menu devoted to SPARGEL!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Your Squire ordered the Spargel with salmon; the Lovely Lisa had hers with wiener schnitzel. Both plates were adorned with flavorful young potatoes, garnished with parsley. If not dressed in bearnaise, your Spargel will be just as happy topped with butter, salt and peppered. We put several of our tour party onto Fleming’s and they thanked us for it afterward. (The definitive Spargel screed here.)
A welcome surprise upon returning home: asparagus! The Experimental Work Farm’s asparagus patch had not given out as I had thought but was just a little late. Nonetheless, that 38-year-old patch is now augmented with new growth.
No, it’s not Spargel. But next year …. ?
In quest for Spargel and Dunkel beer in Munich, Germany White asparagus, to you peasants After five days floating up the Danube River from Vienna aboard the Avalon Impression river boat, our final two days in Munich seemed anti-climactic.

THWK Guild Lore Canon
Assumptions, machinations, etc, that are otherwise regarded as fact for the sake of coherency in role play in the Guild. These may change or be added onto. ★ This post may contain spoilers to the expansion Heart of Thorns and Living World Season 3. Many links to information on the wiki DO contain spoilers. ★
General
The costs of items & services is drastically less than the in-game mechanic suggests. Gold and gold coins are considered high value, not commonly used in day-to-day trade. Many very basic items are sold for coppers while fresh food and services may cost a handful of silver pieces.
Consider generalizing 1 silver piece to 1-2 dollars/notes.

The Heart of Maguuma
The war in the Heart of the Maguuma lasted longer than the narrative of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns suggest, drawn out over the course of the year from late-Zephyr 1328 (fall of the Pact Fleet) to mid-Scion 1328.
As such, Mordremoth died late in the Season of the Scion, 1328.
Standard Mordrem remained indentured and active maliciously to Mordremoth post-death (as observed with Risen & Zhaitan). Mordrem left behind are disorganized and chaotic and still extremely unpredictable and dangerous.
For the most part, this narrative excludes the Mordrem Guard to allow members to retain that choice of character-creativity for themselves if they wish.
As of 1330 (2017), Mordrem numbers are significantly thinned but accurate numbers are still a mystery.
The Hollow
The Gilded Hollow’s “link” between it and the rest of Tarir has been effectively severed. Unlike most of the outposts surrounding the city and much of the city itself, the Exalted simply can’t reach or use it through their usual methods of quick-travel.
This severance is due both to the literal sinking of the older section of the city and the strain Mordremoth executed on Tarir during its assault.
The Guild Portal exists in-character. It is the creation of Ambassador Kosh and gift to the members of [THWK] in the hopes of collaboration in future endeavors.
The guild portal is able to connect to and pull from the asuran Waypoint Network. It does not maintain a constant, stable connection. Rather, it connects at the user’s discretion and disconnects shortly after use.
The guild portal is a construct utilizing the magic of the Exalted with the knowledge gained from working alongside the asura of Rata Novus.
Exalted portal stones are items which are magically tuned to different frequencies. Portal Stones are used as individual tuning devices to allow the user access to areas not linked directly to the Waypoint Network and asura gates. These currently provide the only method of reaching the Gilded Hollow without traveling on foot.
Each guild member has their own portal stone which is synced to the Guild Portal. Affiliates of the guild are allowed to borrow extras which must be checked out and returned regularly.
As of early Zephyr 1330, a Waypoint system does not exist in the Hollow.
