National Egg Day
National Egg Day on June 3 finds eggs finally breaking out of their shell.
Eggs had some tough years as health experts fretted about the high cholesterol content. But after a revision of the American Heart Association’s guidelines in 2000, the health benefits of eggs seemed to outweigh the concerns. The AHA says healthy adults can enjoy an egg per day and easily remain within the daily cholesterol limit.
Also, a single egg has only 75 calories, which is great for those looking to lose weight. And the seven grams of protein in an average egg almost makes this a superfood with a great calorie-to-protein ratio. So those of us who are big fans of poached, scrambled, over easy, hard-boiled, fried, sunny-side-up, or soft-boiled eggs can feel free to use National Egg Day to utter that timeless phrase, “How do you want your eggs?” And it doesn’t matter if it’s 7am, 7pm, or somewhere in between.
Eggs are great to eat anytime … or any day, for that matter.
National Egg Day timeline
Neolithic AgeWhich Came First?
Archaeological evidence for egg consumption dates back to this period.
1400 B.C.Earliest Records
Fowl lay eggs for human consumption as early as 1400 B.C., according to records from Egypt and China.
300 B.C.What an Idea!
Chicken farmers start incubating chicken eggs in warm clay ovens.
1920sPrimitive Methods
Eggs are still mostly farmed in backyards.
National Egg Day Activities
Try eating a non-chicken egg
Try a new recipe with eggs
Emphasize eggs in your day’s activities
Although Americans primarily eat chicken eggs, that’s not the case in all cultures. Pheasant, quail, goose, gull, and turkey eggs are all popular to eat around the world, offering a slightly different taste from chicken eggs. Consider trying duck eggs, which have more of an orange and blue tint to them. Do you need more food at breakfast? An emu egg is equal to about 12 chicken eggs, while an ostrich egg is equal to about 24 chicken eggs.
Don’t let National Egg Day slip away without cooking a new egg recipe. Consider trying an egg recipe from another culture, such as huevos Mexicana, oyakodon (from Japan), or the French "omelet au boudin de Nancy." (Every French recipe just naturally sounds great.)
Eggs aren’t just for eating on this day. Consider visiting the local zoo and see if you can learn more about birds and eggs in nature. Build a birdhouse with a transparent plastic back so you can see the eggs and the hatchlings as they develop. And because it’s June, consider playing Mythbusters at home and testing whether it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.
Why We Love National Egg Day
Arts & eggs
They can be prepared so many ways
They're good for the brain
Although most people crack the egg shell over the frying pan and don’t think any further about it, uncracked eggshells are great for crafts. Of course, at Easter time, many people paint and decorate hard-boiled eggs. But you can use eggs in arts and crafts at other times too. Hollowed out eggs of all sizes — from ostriches to robins — are used in home crafts and decorations. Just make sure you hollow out the egg first.
We feel pretty confident in saying that, no matter how much you love eating egg dishes, you haven’t tried every possible way to cook eggs. (And if you’re sure you have, you should apply to be the permanent CEO of National Egg Day.) Eggs can be cooked alone or placed in other dishes. Because nearly every culture incorporates eggs into its cuisine, the number of worldwide egg recipes is almost endless.
Nutritionists have not only found that the nutritional value of eggs outweighs their cholesterol level, but that eggs have a positive effect on brain development and on memory enhancement. The nutrient, choline, which is similar to the family of B- vitamins, plays a part in the process of developing signaling molecules in the brain. This means moms should hide the sugary breakfast cereal when it's test day at school for the kids; go with eggs instead!

Traditional New Year Ramen has been consumed. Alarmingly high alcohol content local beer is being consumed, champagne is being chilled. Crazy to think in a few days we're off to Sweden to finish buying our new house, and starting a life out in the northern mountains.

So our lovely (not) Swedish state minister Ulf Kristersson was just caught having a bit of a Freudian slip while saying:
"Sverige och EU står enat i att Israel har rätt till folk- till försvar inom ramen för folkrätten"
Which translates to: "Sweden and the EU are united in that Israel has the right to people- the right to self-defense in the frameworks of international law"
now you may be wondering what's wrong with saying the word people and why did he switch up the sentence?
Well unfortunately the Swedish word for genocide is "folkmord" (people murder literally translated) which as you might've noticed also has the same beginning word "folk" (people) as the word he later used; "folkrätten" (international law or people right literally translated).
So a lot of people have been saying that he was about to say folkrätten and not folkmord (genocide) but stopped because "har rätt till folkrätt" is kind of an awkward sentence.
Personally I would not be surprised if he was about to say "folkmord" (genocide), although I don't know if he was about to say that because he really believes israel has that right or if he was about to say that because he believes it to be a genocide or just for some other reason.
Regardless he is still saying they have a right to "defend" themselves which I do not agree with for many reasons.

本日のお客様は一昨日来てくださった、スウェーデンからお越しのカップル。先日の完璧な晴れから一転、今日は久々の冬型のお山。結構景色にも感動してくれるお二人なんで景色を見せたいなと思ってたんですけどね〜。
Today's guests are a couple from Sweden who came the day before yesterday. After the perfect sunny weather the other day, today's mountain weather was winter for the first time in a long time. They are quite impressed by the scenery, so I wanted to show them the view.

We finished a little early, so We went to eat ramen. Even though it was a weekday, all the restaurants were so crowded that I almost became a refugee from lunch, as they say. The ramen I finally ate was delicious.
Thank you for your hard work for two days!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Stockholm Week 3: Travel Preps!
Hej! I can’t believe it’s already February. Time flew by as I made more unforgettable memories in Stockholm :)
I am definitely getting more used to school and living like a local (we went through so much recycling in the past three weeks).
But for now, I'll dive right into my third week:
1/29 Mon: Freedom in Gamla Stan
During lunchtime, my friends and I visited Matchaya to get bubble tea and lunch. It was only a 10/15 minute walk from the DIS building! Very convenient. The bubble teas were AMAZING and the ramen was good too :)
Tumblr media
My first bubble tea (Mango passion fruit) in Stockholm was a huge success <3 They put chunks of real mango in the drink too!!
I’ve always wanted to go back to Gamla Stan to go into some specific stores that I passed by when I was with my friends, hence I went to Gamla Stan again. Granted that I have been there multiple times now, I didn’t need Google Maps to use the metro or get to the stores. In a small souvenir shop, I found the perfect key chain for my housing key!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a tiny little fuzzy Viking friend!
As I walked in the warm sunshine and the occasional breezes, I could feel the definition of peace of mind. It was exactly what I came to study abroad for and I was suddenly on the verge of tears due to pure happiness. It was an inexplicable moment :)
1/30 Tue: Searching for the One
I had never imagined that finding a cream-colored puffer in XS size would be this hard.
There was this white jacket that I saw in UNIQLO during my arrival shopping, and it had been living in my head rent-free since then. I have visited other stores to look for jackets with similar properties but I never succeeded. Moreover, UNIQLO was out of the size I was looking for both online and offline. When I went to the website and applied the filters it said “VERY LOW STOCK” in the mall. I had no option other than to go to the Mall of Scandinavia to look for the exact jacket. I had to try!
I took the astonishingly smooth commuter train for the first time, and it only took 25 minutes in total. Much to my joy, I was able to snatch the last one at the mall!
1/31 Wed: Let’s Book Everything
I didn’t have any field trips today, so I had a great time waking up late in the morning (afternoon to be exact).
Tumblr media
I appreciate the sun so much more than I did back in the States
My roommate and I had a conversation the day before about going to Austria, Vienna together as a weekend trip. We searched through Ryanair (at 1 am) and found the best flight that perfectly suits our class schedules. It gets better: it was $65 per person for a round trip to Vienna! That’s what I call a deal.
Next, I called my dear college friends back home. They have been talking about going to London ever since my study abroad in Sweden was confirmed. My friend and I scheduled a time on Wednesday with Google Calendar (this is what we need to do when we each have 10 billion events going on in our lives) to finalize the trip. Again, Ryanair did its trick and I got my flights booked in an hour.
** Ryanair is recommended if you are on a tight budget AND don’t have a lot of stuff! I’m only bringing my backpack since these are all weekend trips :)
My roommate and I also had a fabulous dinner, ramen.
Tumblr media
As you can see from the photo, we had a feast
2/1 Thu: Self-Care Day
My morning film class was canceled today, so I had the pleasure of turning off all the alarms. For once I had plenty of time to make breakfast.
Tumblr media
*・+:*。・ Golden French toast *。・:*+*
When I was done with my late afternoon three-hour core course, I really didn’t feel like doing anything. So I didn’t!
Tumblr media
The view from the DIS building
We just cooked together following an Instagram recipe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(could have used thinner meat)
and watched Memento together. It played with my mind too many times… I highly recommend it + a video essay that unfolds the movie from a different perspective!
2/2 Fri: Banksy!
To make up for the work I didn’t do last night, I woke up at 5 am to finish my homework.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunrise view at 7:30 am
After class, I briefly ate lunch and headed to The Mystery of Banksy.
I had no prior background knowledge about Banksy, which allowed the museum trip to be a fun learning experience. There was a lot more political and social criticism than I imagined in Banksy’s artworks. The pop-up ends on February 4th, so if you are interested check out the Banksy website!
Here are the pictures we took:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My roomie even brought her camera!!! I was so jealous
2/3 Sat: Fika with Friends
Of course, I went to Gamla Stan again. I was invited for a fika brunch and there was no reason to say no.
We walked around until there were seats available at Fika and Wine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The food and the desserts were all flavorful.
After devouring everything, we strolled around the city to digest. All four of us took pictures of each other at the same time and the conversations we had were too funny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So much laughter <3
I started turning around and around while my friend was taking pictures of me - it resulted in me getting a new nickname of rotisserie chicken.
Tumblr media
The picture depicts a chicken in the midst of rotating
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your answer better be YES to this question!
Maybe it was the turns that led me to lose my transportation card. That’s right, I lost my 90-day SL card. Thankfully, I registered for the replacement guarantee during the first week because I knew it was bound to happen at some point (but not this early ;-; ). I went to the SL Customer Service Center in Central Station, near the T-Centralen metro station, and got my 90-day plan transferred into a new card for $2.
Sending love to my roomie who stayed with me until the problem got fixed. Couldn’t have done it without you <3
2/4 Sun: More Planning (Hopefully the Last)
I finally finalized all the details for my Spain trip during the Exploration Travel Week Break! I got the flight and the hotel in Barcelona, and I am extremely excited for this trip. Going to Spain has been on my bucket list for a while now, and I can’t describe how THRILLED I am. I will write more about it when the time comes :)
My plans for the rest of today are doing more homework and maybe getting dinner with my friends at a Ghanaian restaurant.
I hope you enjoyed my relaxing but vibrant third week! The past three weeks in Stockholm have been exactly what I came to study abroad for, and I wouldn’t change this experience with anything.
I hope to share more of my everlasting memories with you!

Questions for your birthday celebration before I go edit the next Jas and Jake blurb for you to enjoy. Let's pretend Taylor didn't help me pick some of these, okay? Okay.
Five books you wish you could read for the first time again?
Favorite food?
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Besides Glen, who's your celebrity crush?
Who was your first celebrity crush?
Who would win should Sweden and Denmark go to war (yet again)?
Do you love me?
How did you come up with the idea for Let Me Drown?
Why do you insist on breaking my heart with Let Me Drown?
What does it feel like to officially be entering your late twenties?
Now for this banner thingy. I know my entire blog is light blue, but I like dark bottle green for myself and with the quote "you can't save someone by loving them, but you can love them while they save themselves." Love you, Fe!
Shh, I'll pretend I don't know! Love ya! Here's a banner for you <3
Tumblr media
The Book Thief. Pride and Prejudice. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. A Game of Thrones.
Tumblr media
Sushi. Ramen. Any kind of pasta. Steak. I could go on but we’d be here forever.
Tumblr media
Shapeshifting, invisibility and just generally being an enhanced superhuman.
Tumblr media
Oh, I’d say Robert Pattinson, Idris Elba and Miles Teller.
Tumblr media
Robert Pattinson. I saw Edward Cullen and fell in love. Then I kind of forgot about him until The Batman hit theatre and BAM, he was back in the game!
Tumblr media
No one. The countries would wipe each other out and no one would be the winner. (You and I are fleeing to Australia.)
Tumblr media
How is that even a question? I love you an insane amount.
Tumblr media
I honestly don’t remember exactly how it came to be but I’m pretty sure it was inspired by @writercole’s ‘exile.’ And then I shared this lil thought in the discord:
Bob watched as Hangman opened the door to his truck and helped Zoe into the passenger seat, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. She smiled at him, that sunshine smile she always had when she was a kid and Bob would come home from school and sit with her at the kitchen table. “He’ll hurt her. It’s what he always does.” Rooster comes up behind him, stopping only when they’re shoulder to shoulder. “I’m not thrilled it’s Hangman. But I have to trust her. So if she wants to date Hangman, that’s what’s going to happen. And you’ve got a lot of nerve.” Bob keeps his eyes on the couple by the car, watching as Jake gets into the truck and reverses out of the parking lot. “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Rooster snarls, taking a step back. “It means that she told me. About last summer. It means that I know what you did. I know you don’t like Hangman. But right now, he hasn’t hurt her and you have.”
It has obviously grown since that, but I’m pretty sure this is where it all started. Thea wasn’t even Thea at the start but I remember not really vibing with Zoe either. It was just a placeholder.
Tumblr media
I don’t know. The angst just comes naturally to me. And if it makes you feel better, I’m breaking my own heart. And I can’t tell you how pleased I am that you’re feeling this way. Your emotional response is the highest praise.
Tumblr media
GOOD. I am excited. I don’t know what it will bring but I’m looking forward to them. I don't know why people are so worried!

Ten People You’d Like To Get To Know Better
Thank you for the tag @chaotictarlos & @hoko-onchi-writes ♥️
Relationship Status: technically single. I’ve lived with the same person for over 10 years and that’s basically fine for me.
Song stuck in my head: it has to be Francesca by Hozier, that altered my brain chemistry when it dropped.
Last song I listened to: I’ve been very busy recently doing some life shit and the last time I listened for music was walking between appointments and the last song was The Captain by Biffy Clyro which is a banger.
Three favourite foods: oooh god this is hard! Probably…. Chorizo and everything you can put it in, I love Indian food so can I cheat and say Indian food and Japanese ramen, usually tonkotsu ramen especially.
Last thing I googled: the name of my interviewer so I could smooth them over with their academic specialist subject 😂
Dream Trip: Scandinavia for sure, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, I love cold countries as well so I would love to go during the winter. I’m eyeing up a birthday trip to Germany as well.
Anything I want right now: yeah, but it’s kinda sad so I’m going to not verbalise it. Just send your positive vibes in my direction.
If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?: big fan of any animal that can hibernate for half a year. Except I’d do it through the summer. Or I would be a little cat that can nap in patches of sunlight and have no worries in the world.
Would you rather have the power to read minds or fly?: flying sounds like so much effort, I am intrinsically lazy so probably read minds. I have an anxiety disorder so it might be good to hear that I’m not annoying everyone with everything tbh. I’m also quite nosey 👀
Everyone has probably done this already, I’ve been absent for a day or so but in case they haven’t: @mooshkat @cowlos-reyes @wandering-night19 @detective-giggles @just-inside-her @heartstringsduet @lightningboltreader @jesuisici33 @paperstorm @spikewritesstuff

Note
where do you think the boys are??? they are making me thing they are not coming back
Rob’s in Sweden, Bondy’s in Newcastle, and it looks like Benji’s back in LA. His fiancé posted a story just yesterday. They were eating ramen or something, I forgot. No clue about Van and Larry though!
Rumor has it that Van’s in his cave still following social distancing orders and doing his part in keeping Covid numbers low. How kind and considerate of him, bless him. 😂
Tumblr media
NO BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE VAN AND LARRY ARE?! Should we report a missing person?! I dispatched the blimp for Larry but no one responded. 😩

A thousand thanks to @transfenris-truther for tagging me for this! 🥰💕
Tag 10 people you want to get to know better!
relationship status: Seeing no one. Romance has eluded me quite efficiently for some time.
favourite colour: Purple! All shades of purple, violet, lilac, plum, lavender, orchid, amethyst, magenta ... it was my favorite color when I was three and it will be when I’m ninety-nine! 💜
favourite food: Ramen, crunchy roll sushi, red thai curry, pizza and pasta with gorgonzola and spinach! Oh, and “Reiberdatschi” which is a sort of potatoe pancake in Bavarian/Austrian/Alpine cuisine! 🤤😋
song stuck in your head: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
last thing you googled: “watermelon” as me and my sisters wanted to know whether they grow like gourds/pumpkins or on trees/shrubs. My sister’s guess was right! They DO grow like gourds and are only annual plants! 🤯
dream trip: Norway and Sweden
time: 11:25 am
last book you read: Memoirs of a Geisha
last book you enjoyed reading: Aristotle and Dante dive into the Waters of the World (read it the first time) and Memoirs of a Geisha (read it for the second time) and The Song of Achilles (read it for the hundredth time)
last book you hated reading: Cinderella is Dead. Sadly, it was a really disappointing read for me. I usually quit reading a book right away if it don’t like it but I only listened to the audiobook so I made myself stick to it right to the end. Still extremely disappointed.
Bonus:
favourite thing to cook/bake: I LOVE baking christmas cookies (”Plätzchen”) and apple strudles and cakes in general! I also really like cooking pasta and Japanese soups but I like cooking in general.
favourite craft to do in your spare time: Um, it’s not really a craft but apart from writing I like to do belly dancing. Hence the song stuck in my head, I’m trying to create a fan veil choreo for Christmas. I also play the violin (badly).
most niche dislike: I dislike strawberries. Does this count? 🤣
opinion on circus(es) now and in history: I admire the distinguished artists and weep for the animals. But most circuses around here keep very few animals and those they have are in very good condition.
do you have a sense of direction and if not what is the worst way you ever got lost: I actually DO have a very good sense of direction which I only discovered at the age of 18 in Barcelone (Spain). Nevertheless, I got lost in the Sahara desert at night during my trip through Morocco which was an altogether terryfiying experience what with the hours (?) of wandering between the dunes and going through all stages of panic imaginable. But hey, I survived (!) and found my way back in the end! It was a scary experience but it’s also a great story for parties 😅😆
tagging @cleverblackcat @aidanthecryptid @kourvo @rakshadow @bluewren @prplhawke @lethendralis-paints @varricmancer @kcbb01 and @roguelioness 💞
No pressure, just FUN! 😊
