(G)I-DLE Miyeon, “Someday is a proud work piece." [Weekly OST Interview]

Miyeon, a member of the girl group (G)I-DLE, added ‘Someday’ to their solo singing list. It is the eighth OST of the KBS2 drama When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon and its official song was released on various music sites on the 8th.

When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon is a fusion historical drama about Nam-young (Yoo Seung-ho), a principled detective trying to crack down moonshiners, and Kang-ro (Lee Hye-ri), a woman who tries to change her life by brewing alcohol in an era where it was once strongly prohibited.

In a written interview with Edaily after the release of the song, Miyeon expressed her feelings that it was meaningful to sing the OST of a historical drama for the first time since her debut.

"Since childhood, I have vaguely thought that 'someday I really want to sing an OST of a historical drama.' Thankfully, I was happy and excited to sing the OST of When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon as a good opportunity. I had a lot of fun recording, and I’m thankful for the careful [vocal] directing"

"Deep in My Heart / In My Desired Heart / Will My Love Come Back - ♪" and "Someday" are songs about longing for a distant lover. The affectionate lyrics of the song, the calm piano melody, and the light yet appealing voice were harmonized.

Miyeon expressed satisfaction with the song, saying, "As soon as I heard the song, I felt it was so good," adding, "I used to listen to the demo version of the song before recording. The lyrics and melody with affectionate and longing touched my heart in particular” she said. "I tried to express my feelings in a more mature way, so I think it would be good if you could focus and listen to it."

Miyeon, main vocalist of (G)I-DLE, has sung the OST Tale of the Nine Tailed (My Destiny), Replay (Dreaming About You), and Adult Trainee (Imagine Love) alone.

Miyeon said, "I especially take more responsibility when I sing an OST as my voice is joined in an important scene of the drama" In addition, she said, "I was happy that the members gave feedback and the fans liked it after the release of this song," adding, "Someday will remain a proud work for me."

Miyeon appeared in web dramas Adult Trainee and Delivery last year to show her acting talent and is currently an MC for Mnet's music show program M Countdown. She is expanding her field of activity by participating in various fields.

Miyeon, who has been steadily receiving love calls for OSTs, said, "Please give a lot of love for the drama When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon and my OST song ‘Someday’. I hope you watch (G)I-DLE and my activities. We will show you more new and cool performances this year," she said.

Do the ROs listen to other people’s advice, or do they prefer figuring things out by themselves?

good question! hm, let me think about it.

aine is super, super stubborn. it’s a byproduct of being solitary so long, but when it’s really just you and your thoughts, it’s easy to slip into patterns once they become ingrained. they’re definitely on the extreme side of the scale. as in “i will figure everything out ALONE and will never talk about my problems ever”

in kaj’s case, you don’t get as high of a position in leadership without having a good sense of initiative. they’re talented at weighing their options and taking others into consideration, so they’re somewhere in the middle of “does things on their own” and “takes advice.”

miyeon is a wild card. she does what she wants when she wants, but that doesn’t mean that she completely tunes everyone out. she just takes it at face value, or files it away. the only times she really revisits advice is when she’s in deep shit. and mostly just because she doesn’t want to hear “i told you so.” leans more towards the “figures things out alone” side.

james is the best at taking advice and listening to others, but this is conditional on how much he likes the person in question. and the big, glaring exception is when he becomes dead (ha) set on something — he can get as bad as aine does about it.

What are the RO's love languages?

oh god this is about to get really long. breakdowns are under the cut! (and warning for mild spoilers)

aine is physical touch

kaj is quality time

miyeon is words of affirmation

james is acts of service

love languages are so much fun to think about about as a framework, since all the characters have multi-faceted methods with how they approach relationships with people they love. (james would like you to know he is FLUENT at ALL OF THEM.)

i agonized over assigning them one over the other because i thought it through with the mindset of: "holy crap how would they approach showing affection to the MC?" so in the end these are their primary Relationship Love Languages i settled on. (some of these were close. like, really, really close.)

aine was a tossup – i first went for quality time because it seemed obvious. if aine is spending time around you when they could be spending time alone, it's a big thing. they're very attached to their solitude. ultimately i went back and looked at all my writing, and i came to the quick realization how much they have a tendency for physical affection (hand placed over yours, arm over the shoulders, leaning on someone) and went Oh, Oh I See.

i wouldn't say they long for touch, because that kind of insinuates that they've gotten over the vehement denial stage. it's unconscious in how they gravitate towards physical touch as an anchor. touch is an important way for them to express their feelings because sometimes they find themself at a loss for words, and hugs and such are a good way for them to get the emotion out.

kaj was an easy one to assign! they're busy, they're closed off, and they're very, very dedicated to their role. while they're good at speaking and good at being thoughtful, they desperately need time from their day to be away from people and just relax. they have a draining, demanding job, and the fact that they choose to spend time with you means that they find you comforting.

it's something they genuinely want to do, and it's a display of trust and affection that they can put down their guards and just Be In The Moment.

miyeon "talking about my emotions? funny joke, haha" lee ended up surprising me the most (incredibly) by being words of affirmation. she's very mercurial. long-term stability just isn't her thing, so i figured that like kaj, sticking around was a display of love. but i was super wrong.

she's not afraid to express her opinions on a topic and is especially never one to shy away from insults, but talking about her own feelings is something she avoids like the plague. she associates it with vulnerability, and that's [redacted] for [redacted] reasons. it means a lot if you're on the receiving end of her pure, unfiltered honesty. she's essentially baring her heart to you.

james was hard, because he embodies most (if not all) of the love languages. he's physically affectionate, he loves giving compliments, he loves spending time with people, and he loves giving things to people. initially i leaned towards giving/receiving gifts, because he spoils people frequently. even when he was a kid he'd save up allowance and gift money just to shower his mom in presents during the holidays. james was the one guy who just carried around a pack of gum to hand out to his buddies.

but it ended up being acts of service. james is impulsive, yes, but it's the same impulse that leads him to want to do things. like help tend to houseplants, make sure the curtains and blinds are shut if they have a headache, find nice music for them to unwind to, etc. he's very loud with his love, but it's the little, quiet acts of consideration that really shows you how much he cares.

how old is the MC? and how old are the ROs?

mc doesn't really have a specific age. beyond being over 21, everything else is up to reader choice/headcanon.

for the ROs, aine is nearing a thousand, kaj is a couple centuries years old, miyeon looks like she's in her mid-to-late twenties, and james is approximately three years older than the mc.
