This bay mare is endowed with an abundance of charm - so much so that she can literally stand in the middle of a ring and hold many onlookers' attention while a class is being worked. However, she need not depend solely upon her personality for she can and does work with the best of them.

She was truly sensational in winning the five-gaited stake at India in 1948; and she came back in 1949 to give a comparable performance to again win the stake and the open class at Indio, and the mare class plus the stake at Imperial. The mare has that uncanny, oily way of covering ground at the rack which is difficult to describe but a great pleasure to watch, and when her smooth, effortless movement is supplemented by those shapely ears and sparkling eyes, there is small wonder that applause follows her around the ring.

Considerable credit is due Bud Bohall, manager and trainer at Bethany Farm, for the splendid job he has done in bringing this mare along and for the level-headed ride he gives her in the show ring. It is noteworthy that he never lets the speed-crazy riders cause him to rate the mare out of form. Bud Bohall is up in this picture. 

Horse show devotees of the Pacific Coast will have the pleasure of seeing this mare during the 1949 season, as it is Mr. and Mrs. Cuddihy's plan to campaign her, and other members of the Bethany Farm contingent on the major show circuit.

This is interesting. Im out of the horse show loop completely, but I do wonder what this means for the fate of the saddlebred show horse. Ive never even heard of the Equine Sports Council. Is USEF cracking down on "unsavory" show horse practices that are quite standard for saddlebred show horses? I wonder what the ESC will permit at WCHS that USEF will not permit any longer.

Finally going through (and cleaning) the tack I was given by my trainer who passed last October.

The official count of items:

2 saddles (one not pictured it’s being returned to the family)

5 pairs of stirrups

1 lonely stirrup iron

1 pair of stirrup leathers

1 full bridle

2 training bridles

7 girths

1 German martingale

1 draw rein

1 running martingale

3 saddle pads (also not pictured they’re being washed)

2 fleece coolers

And 1 English Bulldog who can’t use his own bed (bed is in fact pictured)

Also this is a to each their own thing like do what  you want its your life im not mad about it lol but it stresses me out so hard when i see people riding without a helmet. i dont care how good your horse is slips happen sometimes man.

With another clean cloth, wipe a small amount of a very mild detergent onto the seat. my mom used to ride saddleseat and even owned a saddlebred when i was a baby. but because i was a surprise baby she continued riding up until her mid second trimester when she found out she was gonna have me. i think it’s the sweetest thing ever to know my days in utero were spent on horseback

#that’s probably why im so messed up XD #when i was trying several years ago i looked it up and i think it was around 12 weeks when you shouldn’t ride anymore

How do you boost your confidence?

Favorite Subject: The short answer is almost everything except math and gym… And that’s only because I’m terrible at both. I was wildly in love with the Sciences, Psychology, Art, & Literature, among others.

Weird Fact: I rode horseback for 10 years, competing Western & English Pleasure, Dressage, Saddleseat (my fave), Driving, Trail, and Drill (even better fave). I’ve worked livestock exactly 1 time and have a state medal in IHOR (In-Hand Obstacle Relay, a very hilarious event pronounced exactly as it looks), which I did with the grumpiest, pudgiest miniature pony you can possibly imagine.

Confidence Boost: I’m not the best at this. But I AM pretty good at seeing myself as a learner (very freeing). For anything that doesn’t cover, I go back to being seven years old jumping off the diving board…. I forcibly stop thinking and just go for it. Mixed reviews on that method xD

I'm sure this is a controversial take so let me just make myself 100% clear:

I am in no way a supporter of padded performance for Tennessee walking horses. I think heavy padding is excessive, and pointless, and I have reason to belive it can put serious strain on horses knees to be flicking that weight around every step. I don't like how the horses are putted in giant shanked bits, and I absolutely hate the practice of tail setting in saddleseat and twh showing.

But with all that said I really wish people would put the soring thing to rest... like it's already illegal and enforced. Every horse entering the padded performance division at the twh celebration is checked for chemical burns and is thermographed. Like there are other things to not like about padded performance. There are things that could change, but people rely way too much on the same footage from 20 years ago of that one trainer who was already punished and banned from owning horses to try to push it. Like if you want to fight something at least actually be educated on the subject.

I've been thinking this for a while but what really set me off was the Humane Society of the US posting about soring in their most recent tiktok video. Like way to be 20 years behind. That issue has already been taken care of. The HSUS relies on so much of their funding coming from the uneducated and for what? The HSUS suffers the same issues as every other large scale not for profit. Using money for corperate gain instead of actually using it for the cause they stand for, denying assistance to thousands of groups who need it, trying to monopolize on the suffering of others, spreading misinformation to "rally the troups".

Support a local and reputable animal charity not the HSUS. And please for the love of good REALLY read up on topics and ask questions before you make a final judgment

BSD characters headcannons, what discipline in horse riding would they ride in?

a/n: I’ve wanted to do this for so long omg 😭

Pm:

chuuya- barrel racing 100%, if you don’t know it’s basically racing a pattern of barrels which you go around in a tight circle (just Google it nvm) but I think he’d like the adrenaline. Akutagawa- dressage, I think that he’d probably like it somehow, it’s kinda simple and basically (my trainer describes it as ballet for horses) fancy stuff. Hirotsu- In this AU, he was probably a western pleasure rider once or a reigning rider, now he’s one of the old men on western pleasure horses that need to fix their posture cause they literally sit like they’re about to die. He probably is a professional western judge too. Gin- hunters, just hunters, not jumpers, hunters, 2ft, 3ft, yeah. Tachihara-Hunters, and reigning probably. Higuchi- I don’t know but she gives off showjumping to me

kyu/yumeno- they’re probably the lesson kid that’s terrifying. Probably rides a small pony, and does measures classes and once went to pony finals with Elise. (a/n: my dream fr)

Elise- hunter kid that’s actually pretty good, same as Kyu, just less terrifying, rides an automatic pony though. (A/n: Automatic pony is what me and my friends call champion winner ponies that kind of just do all the work for the kid lol)

Mori- ugly ass saddleseat judge

Kouyou- Dressage, grand prix dressage, she has a black friesian mare, and a bay Arabian.
