Plant of the Day
Tuesday 12 September 2023
This garden dry stone wall hosts a number of Sedum species including the grey foliaged Sedum spathulifolium 'Cape Blanco' (spoon-leaved stonecrop). The fleshy rosettes are silver-grey in winter becoming blue-grey in summer, overlaid with a white bloom which intensifies with drought.

Sedum spathulifolium (Colorado stonecrop var. ‘Cape Blanco’)
The West coast of North America is home to a number of sedums and this particular one, Colorado stonecrop, is growing in my rockery. I find it’s pale leaves particularly attractive although they turn red and orange at the end of summer.

tumblr, meet my little green lovelies~ little green lovelies, meet tumblr~ we've got, from left to right: Sunsparkler Cherry Tart (yes really), Coppertone (scientific name Sedum nussbaumeranium), Topsy Turvy Echeveria (scientific name Echeveria runyonii), and Cape Blanco Pacific Stonecrop (scientific name Sedum spathulifolium) so far the only one I've named is the Stonecrop, which I call Pike (for what should be obvious reasons, namely that she is beautiful and strong and I love her) the Sunsparkler goes a beautiful dark red wine colour in full sun, though I think the green is rly pretty too. he's also supposed to be a trailing plant, but he's been a little unstable since I repotted him, so I gave him the glass ball for support the two in the middle pot (the Coppertone and the Echeveria) are butter yellow and pale periwinkle respectively in full sun, and I really hope I get enough in the next couple months to see it, cause they look beautiful! Pike, meanwhile, is perfect just as she is and I will protect her with my life

Diamond Jubilee Floral Crown
-Alternanthera lehmannii Gold-Green. -Alternanthera lehmannii Bright Red. -Alternanthera lehmannii Dark Purple. -Alternanthera lehmannii Yellow-Green. -Echeveria elegans. -Echeveria glauca.   -Helichrysum ambiguum Korma. -Sedum pachyclados. -Sedum spathulifolium Cape Blanco. -Sempervivum Standard Green.   -Sempervivum tectorum Rubin.

Sedum spathulifolium 'Cape Blanco' I bought a few days ago, working on repotting it :)
It’s so hard to repot these sedums when they’re in the wrong soil, getting rid of all the bad old soil is hard and it breaks up how bushy it all is. Then it’s hard to repot it back all in a bush!
