“City Will Burn Squatter Shacks,” Vancouver Province. April 27, 1942. Page 13. ---- Seven of the city's shacktown's most comfortable retreats will disappear in smoke and flames within a few days under arrangements made by the special Civic committee which has been carrying on a continuous program against squatter settlements. 

Six of the doomed abodes are houseboats on the old trestle of Great Northern Railway Co. at the head of False Creek. The seventh is under Burrard bridge. 

Destruction of the shacks, which have been abandoned, will be carried out by the fire department under direction cf Assistant Chief E. L. Erratt. 

Dozens of squatters' homes on False Creek, Burrard Inlet and the North Arm of the Fraser River have been destroyed under the committee's order in the last two years, declared there were no houses of prostitution.

At some point after Coco’s death, Héctor brings her to visit his friends in Shantytown.

He hasn’t forgotten about them, of course. He still visits them, and they’re all happy for him, that at least one of them got to be remembered and reunited with his family.

So Héctor shows up with Coco, and they’re all very excited to meet the famous Coco they’ve all heard so much about, the cause of Héctor’s crazy attempts to get over the bridge long after anyone else would have given up.

Everyone introduces themselves to her, and tells her a few stories about funny shenanigans Héctor got up to in the past, and it all goes swimmingly well, with everyone having a great time, even accounting for that one moment someone started to make an inappropriate joke and Héctor automatically clapped his hands over Coco’s ears (or, well, since she’s a skeleton, the place where her ears would be) and admonished everyone over the head of the elderly woman older than most of them lived to be that “there are children present!”
