Just wanted to say that I LOVE where you comic is going so far. I know people love your Bruno (of course) and Chel (who wouldn't?) But I especially love your original design of the character 'Ascensión.' Even though we know nothing about her so far other than being a ballerina (which I love.)

Thank you! ✨ Ascensión (Sión) was such an unexpected development as I was writing the story. It took such a unique turn and I'm excited to reveal in later chapters. FOR HER CHARACTER: I wanted a 'movie starlet' type character visiting back in her hometown. Much like stars who have since moved to Hollywood, her clothing/style is reflective of where she currently lives (In this case it would be Paris) Despite these visual differences, she was in-fact born and raised in the Encanto just like everyone else. The 'famous / eccentric aunt' who comes home to spoil their nieces and nephews is definitely a popular story trope. This is my take on it. FOR HER DESIGN: Ascensión is a former Ballet Dancer (Prima Ballerina) so I wanted there to be an element of broadened shoulders within a tall/statuesque and elegant build gained from years of athletic movement. She is also only a few years younger than the Madrigal triplets. This was paramount to me because one of her inspirations is Madame Adelaide Bonfamille from The Aristocats who was a former Opera Singer. What I adored most about that character was that she didn't need to be young to be beautiful. She was just a beautiful woman at any age. (Like Pepa and Julieta)

finally finished the savage detectives and i'm very normal about it. don't understand anything but half formulated stream of consciousness under the cut

i keep trying to contextualize the poem of sión in the sense of the chapter which details "everything that starts as a comedy ends as..." the first like being the comedy that everything begins as and the last jagged storm being where you end up. it's very interesting that this specific chapter is largely narrated by successful characters, since it implies that chaotic late stage can be a good one. it just isn't for our main cast specifically.

and that's because their entire quest is quixotic, paradoxic; they're the last remaining visceral realists but they never really write poems and certainly never publish them. visceral realism really is dead. never was alive. it's all a farce but it also means something to the people that take part, like the duel, like tilting at windmills. there is no great significance to this literary movement, except for their entire lives.

i need a greater understanding of south american history to appreciate this more, maybe i just need to be mexican to understand it all, which is not a possibility so i'll sit here with my half sane thoughts about the futility of chasing things and the joy in it all the same and how everything starts so easy and gets so hard until you reach the point of amadeo salvatierra wishing they made los suicidas mezcal and your poetry movement was still alive and the kids in front of you had any idea what they were doing instead of sailing forward into their own contradictory storm saying símonel and trying to find meaning beyond the inherent meaning of life is life is life.

Now that Hallowen is near, I have decided to share an interesting book I have been reading in these weeks, its title is Toledo: La Ciudad de los Muertos (Toledo: The City of the Dead), writen by Ventura Leblic García. The topic is to divulge about the stories and death rites of people of the several cultures and religions which have inhabitated the city throughout history.
