The Deuteronomy Brothers~

Deut would have these pictures in his wallet, if he had one. They are all just barely into adulthood in these pics. Some more mature than others. And boy, these cat lads can fit so much trauma inside! Have that under the cut :)

So they’re basically just barely adults in these pictures. Think 18-ish in human terms.

Mac used to be proud of being the biggest and oldest brother. He held both Munk and Tugger not too long after they were born. He loved to show off his magic, creating the smallest flames for his brothers to warm themselves. He would use his magic in play wrestling too, which Munk unfortunately got the brunt of. He ever so slowly started to learn he felt more powerful the more he hurt the ones around him. And so he continued. At first it was unintentional, which slowly turned into deliberate set-ups to get as much of a reaction out of the others as he could. The frustration and hurt of others, it was… addicting. He could sometimes even manipulate cats to do something for him, whether they wanted to or not. His brothers were the easiest targets, especially Munk.

And everlasting, Munk grew to distrust his brother with a passion. He saw Mac taking kitten Tugger with him often. They were too fast for him to follow. When they would come back, Tugger would be upset and Munk was there to offer comfort. That cycle repeated for quite some years. Until Mac figured out the mind control. The buzzing, nauseating, static-y feeling was one he would never forget. He hoped one day he’d be able to snap out of it by himself. Tugger didn’t seem to mind or understand, but he was still so young, how could he?

And why did Old Deuteronomy never do anything about it? Surely he was a cat with more magical experience than everyone of them combined? Munk had once asked him this, after Mac had just been banished. He was met with silence. Better to never speak of it, then. Act as if nothing ever happened to him. Or his brother. Or the rest of the tribe.

The day Mac was banished there was a thunderstorm. No rain, just lightning and booming thunder, indicating the storm was close. Every time he had seen Mac over the last couple weeks, his eyes had been glowing. With what, he wasn’t sure. Old Deuteronomy had invited Mac into his den to talk. Munk and Tugger were in the kitten’s den, being watched dutifully by Jellylorum. In between the thunder, Munk could hear screaming and hissing. Despite his instincts telling him to stay away, he left a sleeping Tugger and went to look for his older brother and father. When he crept into the den, he was met with a terrifying sight; Mac stood over his father’s body, hands outstretched, filled with blazing flames. He let out a yelp, which caused Mac to turn around with feral eyes and focus on him. He realized too late his father was calling out to him, as he already felt the static and nausea set in. And this time, he wasn’t sure if he would survive.

What happened exactly is never spoken about. Old Deuteronomy’s den went up in flames and Macavity disappeared into the night. Munkustrap wasn’t hurt too bad physically, but he vowed to never have to experience magic ever again. Tugger was woken by screaming, his father’s den aflame and both his brothers gone. Days later, he would find Munk curled up underneath a broken bedframe. Not knowing what to do, he just curled up with him, not missing the flinch Munk made when he opened his eyes for a second. He was young, true, but he wasn’t stupid.

They’re both theme songs for characters in a game I enjoy (Dislyte) and I think they do a perfect job of representing their respective characters, who happen to be siblings. Sky Sailor representing the older sister, Valeria, who’s cheerful and heroic, and Own Enemy representing the younger brother Liam, who is closed off and distrustful of others but would do anything for his sister. I just love them so much aaiquuqhefh and the songs go so hard honestly HAHAHA

Finally fleshing out monster hunter!Vickie! Have some headcanons and stuff

All four girls went to the same school. Vickie befriended Chrissy during middle school, but they drifted apart during freshman year while Chrissy was dealing with Robin’s unspecified “illness.”

She wanted to be friends with Robin, but Robin was dealing with stuff and didn’t let anyone close but Chrissy for the longest time. She has a vague inkling that Chrissy and Robin were never telling the full truth about Robin’s disease. They’re very bad liars.

They did however stay in contact a little as they would see each other at games when Chrissy was cheerleading and Vickie was in the band.

Vickie moved away for college and ended up losing contact with Chrissy. She had her first brush with the supernatural during sophomore year.

Said brush happened when Vickie was convinced by some friends to mess around with a summoning ritual and they actually might have summoned something, but all ran away before they could see.

Vickie came home for the summer and had another encounter, this time with a werewolf (Robin) that ran across the road as she was driving home. It stopped in front of her car and stared her down before it ran off.

Vickie has basically only just decided to become a monster hunter, mainly because she’s worried about the werewolf in town.

She very much distrusts magic after her experience in college.

She also had a little crush on Chrissy that she never acted on because Chrissy was dating Robin for so long. This crush may or may not still exist, she denies everything. Visiting the tattoo parlor every few days to see her old bestie is her business

Vickie and Nancy have always held a little rivalry though they’re not really sure why. This continues when they get stuck working together, especially because Nancy has been at this for years, but Vickie doesn’t know what she’s doing and is a little naive about the whole thing.

So I dragged @livingislands into making a Zombie Apocalypse/Walking dead AU with me. Warning- a lot of characters stop being alive and become zombies. There is also a LOT of character’s grieving because Angst angst angst

So basically the world is attacked by a huge zombie plague over the course of 24 hours and billions of people are zombified. Only about 30 people from fair city make it out initially- everyone else is taken.

This is a little bit in the future so Becky is about 13 and Tj is about 11

Every character in the group is dealing with different kinds of losses and they’re all struggling to cope. There’s about 15 villains, 15 civilians, and Wordgirl

Becky and Tj are awoken at midnight to the sounds of their parents struggling, and they go down to see what happened. They see the zombies closing in on them, and Sally and Tim say to run. Tj starts running, but Becky stays behind and is about to word-up before Sally harshly yells at her to get out of here. Becky is startled for a second after being yelled at like that (and not fully awake) and in her hesitation Sally and Tim are both bitten.

She freezes, not knowing what to do and not realizing what she just saw, until her brother screams, and she flies over to him and saves him

Tj is in shock with the everything going on, not only are his parents probably dead and theres zombies but his sister is flying.

Becky finds a group of people being ushered into DTB’s laboratory, and she and tj end up joining them, as some of the top villains are trying to organize everyone who’s left.

Butcher sees the new kids that came in and tries to help them. Tj just goes along with it, but Becky still wants to help so she sneaks off to find something to do. Honestly I think saving people and helping people would be like a safety blanket for her almost, it’s familiar and comfortable

Dtb ends up finding her and tells her to go to her parents and Becky snaps at him and says she would if she could. Dtb is like “Who is this sassy lost child”

I went on for way to long about this scene to livingislands but basically she kinda breaks down a bit and he slowly realizes that

a) this sobbing kid in pajamas is wordgirl

b) the local superhero is mentally out of commission oh god oh fuck

Long story short the group ends up gathering together in a survival-stake out thing. They look to Becky as their leader, because she reveals she’s wordgirl, and that just puts all the pressure on her that she can’t handle.

Over time the civilians and the villains faction off and start distrusting eachother, with the villains rallying behind DTB now that Granny May got zombied, and the civilians rallying behind Wordgirl who doesn’t want this

A big portion of this is the dynamic between dtb and becky because of course it is but I HAVE thought about other characters. But first im gonna talk about them ok

Blorbo section

You know how when you have one strong emotion about one thing then suddenly every other painful thing you’ve ever repressed comes pouring out? Yeah that’s what Becky’s going through right now. She’s stressed over being a leader, she’s stressed over taking care of her brother, and she’s fucking mourning her parents. Now on top of that she’s dealing with heightened tension between her and violet, AND seeing a little bit more of Steven in dtb every single day

Twobrains is kinda in serious mode. He can’t help but be a sarcastic doofus sometimes but he’s also suddenly in charge of a very serious situation and in like CONSTANT panic mode.

He and becky are kinda forced to interact because the villains all go to him for issues and the civilians all go to her. More and more often though she seems to be asking for his advice more then mutually discussing a problem. And he’s fully aware that his brain does not brain and is just like “Oh god dont fuck this up dont say the wrong thing” meanwhile Becky is so used to being on the top of most power dynamics with the villains, so being extra vulnerable and genuinely needing help from them sometimes is making her insecure

Dtb gets bitten

Okay so no he doesn’t die. But I mean the man has got two brains, he’s a prime target! He manages to get away at the last second, but squeaky is GONE. DONEZO. Mouse brain? No. Zombie mouse brain.

The zombie brain isn’t as smart as the mouse brain so DTB has more agency, but the zombie kill urges are still there. Constantly there.

The main survivor group

Villains

Twobrains- Already went over him mostly. Unofficial leader of the villains when the group starts factioning in half. Stressed out constantly. Half zombie.

The henchmen- Not really on either side. They just follow twobrain’s orders mostly and keep to themselves. Everyone notices Meatloaf is a lot quieter then before.

Nocan- Contraria was overrun so he came to fair city to try and find help. Once he sees Becky is “in charge” in charge he kinda acts like a big dumb guard dog for her, aggressively enforcing her rules, even when she’s not sure of them herself. He’s dealing with a lot of guilt from not being able to save anyone from his homeland.

Tobey- Dealing with his mother’s loss. He spends most of his days trying to create a robot version of her. It’s never enough. He gets into a fight with Becky at some point because she snaps and says he should be helping with his robots instead of staying alone all day. He snaps back hard, and they don’t speak to each other for a little while, until they’re in a situation where they’re forced to, and forced to reconcile

Butcher- he’s kinda the group morale guy, and he has his work cut out for him. He was one of the few trying to make peace between the villains and civilians, knowing that they’re safer in numbers. He hides his own grief and fear for the sake of the others. Really effective at distracting the zombies with meat

Chuck- His brother-jealousy issues go full throttle, he competes with Brent on almost every task around the camp. The brothers and their mom are all in Dtb’s attic together, so they are forced to confront their family dysfunction. He’s also refusing to acknowledge that Whammer is gone, filled with guilt that he never said enough to him or made up for all of their issues. He believes they’ll find him again.

Miss Question- (I just like her let me have this) One of the most aggressive towards the zombies, full-out looking for revenge for the entire villain school and coach

Leslie and Mr. Big- Mr Big provided all of the mattresses initially (his workplace got overrun by zombie unpaid interns) (he runs a worldwide money laundering mattress store monopoly and I will die on this hill) But since money means nothing now he can’t really help much. He’s never felt so inadequate and lashes out a lot, and Leslie is slowly losing her patience with him. She’s one of the main fighters meanwhile. They both love each other (platonic or romantic either way) and are struggling to accept that the power dynamic between them is shifting.

The Best Family- Victor didn’t make it out. Victoria is devastated, and she’s horrified that it doesn’t seem like her parents are too. She sees them trying to still be the best in every petty thing, even though the world is literally ending, and at first she joins them. But now that she’s forced to be in such close proximity with everyone else she finally sees that this isn’t normal. She starts siding with the civilians, away from her parents, and begins staying with Tobey in his room. Even though he’s closed off and strange and nerdy, He reminds her of her brother in some weird way. It’s nice.

Lady Redundant Woman- “Out of every damn person DAVE managed to survive god fucking damn it-“ And then they fall in love

No but seriously Beatrice is so incredibly sour because she can’t go see her copy machines, she has her clones help out (a lot of them have gotten bitten) but she rarely helps herself. When Dave mentions that he misses the copy shop they share a moment of solidarity. Over time Beatrice starts noticing that she feels strange, and realizes that whenever her copies get bitten- she inherits some of those zombie tendencies, uh oh

Invisibill- Big left hand guy proposed two days before the attack. He got bitten protecting Bill. That scene replays in his mind over and over. Angst angst angst edgy edgy edgy

Eileen- Has some sort of mental blockage that is just completely preventing her from processing this whole thing, she acts the same as ever and is REALLY getting on everyone’s nerves. Until the day her mom snaps at her, and her entire world crashes down around her. Eileen whiplashes into becoming incredibly timid, until Becky sits down and has a long conversation with her about their new reality. She breaks through to her a little bit.

Civilians

TJ- Does his best to help, but can only do so much. Spends most of his time with Johnson because Becky is always busy. Becky thinks that she shouldn’t talk to him about what happened, but at the same time is incredibly protective of Tj now, and Tj feels really invalidated by it even if she’s doing her best. He’s not fully over the death of his parents and finds himself looking for them subconsciously around the lair.

Johnson and his mom- They’re dealing with the loss of his dad. It feels like his mom’s pushing him away due to her grief sometimes, and he’s hurt a lot by this. Spends most of his time with Tj, trying to comfort each other and make up games to try and stay happy. It’s not all doom and gloom though, they get to explore a real villains lab, and talk to a bunch of them! Plus, even if she’s being a bit of an overprotective jerk right now, Becky is Wordgirl! Surely with her around, nothing bad will happen to them. Right?

Reginald- Scared of dirt yet forced to work, truly the greatest tragedy of them all

Violet and her uncle- Violet’s mom didn’t make it, but her uncle did, and that’s who she’s staying with. They host a lot of group meditations and mental health sessions, trying to keep everyone sane and do their best to heal themselves and everyone around them. They’ve helped so much, but it never feels like enough. They’re probably processing the situation the best of everyone, but it’s still horrific. Violet sometimes seems to be talking to no one like her mom is still there, whether or not Violet’s losing it or she really contacted her mom’s spirit isn’t something anyone is willing to debate.

Scoops passing hit Violet and Becky like a train. They both don’t know what to do now that their trio became a duo. They miss him a lot, and the tensions run high again. One time they got into a really heated fight, until Violet finds Scoops’ old notepad. The girls silently hold eachother as they read through it

Scoops’ father- coping with the loss of his son. Tries to look after all the other kids best he can

Exposition Guy- Missing his wife and city I don’t have the energy to write angst for him he does the same thing in the show. “Oh no! There are a hoard of zombies on 24th by the gas station on the east side headed this way! What will we do!!”

Brent- Everyone loves him, but he’s just really tired of people pleasing all day. Not to mention his brother is constantly angry at him and he doesn’t know why.

Chuck’s mom- Willfully ignorant of the issues between her sons. Trying to act like everything is normal, in denial

Ms. Champlain- (she’s the art teacher) Bonds with Violet quite a bit, in a few ways filling the void her mother left. She’s also close with Becky and tries to reach out to an unresponsive Tobey, as she feels responsible for all her students

Dave- He’s annoyingly positive but it’s only to mask the intense sadness because he thinks that if he’s negative for one second the world will explode. Pack it up Kenneth from 30 rock

Rose and her dad- i’m gonna be honest most of these civilians are added so I can have a somewhat equal amount of civilians and villains. These two are doing their best and are just as freaked out as everyone

Eileen’s mom- Tried to shield her baby from everything that’s happening but it just became too much.

Non-Zombie characters not in the main group

Rex/Kid math- Dealing with his own city apocalypse

Huggy- Stayed behind with Sally and Tim but made it out. Started his own pet-group of zombie fighters after he was unable to look for/ find Becky

Random things

Granny May refused to hide until she saved every villain or died trying

if DTB or Beatrice theoretically bite anyone and go through skin it will zombify them

You can tell who the zombies used to be. It makes taking them out harder. Yeah.

Ok so going back to the past d/s au, can we hear some ideas about the non sexual scenes you’d do with Pierre and Yuki? To gain their trust and maybe also to help them get into subspace in a healthy way? I love this au so much.

Of course!! I fucking love this AU so I’m more than happy to expand on it. I’m always excited to here things about this AU or to write some myself.

So firstly, I definitely think non-sexual scenes are the way to start off.

Ideally, you’d like to not actually Dom them for a good while, getting to know them as people first so that they can really learn to trust you.

But you can’t do that because they both need to be dommed so badly. Especially Pierre. Poor Pierre whose been trying to protect Yuki and always taking brunt of their past Dom’s punishments and has basically been living in permanent subdrop to prevent Yuki from getting it as bad as him.

They need to be dommed. Now. There isn’t time for you to have some coffee dates with them first.

So non sexual is the safest option. You’re not going near anything sexual until you’re 100% sure they will be honest with you about what they want and will actually use their safe words.

The most heartbreaking thing is how shocked Yuki when you hand him a pillow to kneel on. How he looks at the pillow in wonder because he can’t believe you care enough about his comfort to give him one.

Pierre doesn’t look at you in wonder though. He watches you with distrust, so certain that you’re just trying to lull them into a false sense of security and then pull the rug from under them.

But even so, the kneeling is good. You let them hold hands and praise them the entire time, thanking them for kneeling so beautifully and then letting them curl up together afterwards, cuddling close as aftercare.

From there, you try handfeeding. Which Yuki is overjoyed about and Pierre is once again uncertain.

But this is the scene where Pierre drops HARD into subspace because there’s something about being hand fed, kneeling a pillow with Yuki safe and happy next to him that just makes his body slip.

Yuki is as surprised as you are, but you quickly recover and praise them both, telling Yuki he needs to be an extra good boy so that you can keep an extra eye on Pierre. Yuki nods, determined to do so because he loves Pierre just as much as Pierre loves him.

Hand feeding becomes a stable for you. And slowly but surely, Pierre and Yuki start actually taking in between.

Yuki will complain about the gym session he had that morning while you feed Pierre and Pierre even starts telling you about his day or his plans while you feed Yuki.

You’d start having them walk around in only their underwear when it’s just you and them. Ideally, they would be naked for the true submission aspect to shine through. But you don’t want to push them too much.

Yuki is a little scared of this step, thinking about all the ways their past Dom abused their exposed skin. But actually it’s Pierre who reassures him? Because you’ve done nothing wrong up until this point. Maybe they should just try and see what happens.

The tipping point is one weekend where there’s no race and you take the two of them away. It’s just you and them, alone in a big house and you control everything they do, from what they eat to what they wear, when they shower, when they workout, when they sleep, everything.

Within an hour they’re both in subspace, and they spend the weekend like that, just floating in a light subspace and finally, finally feeling submission as they should have all along.

When you slowly bring them back up after that weekend, you know the worst is over.

Cellbit - Ballister, perfect because he goes through a similar thing with trying to earn the Federation’s trust, and trying to earn the islander’s trust in his traitor situation going on. And also Cucurucho would totally frame him for crimes LOLLLL. And also the situation with him being framed to kill King Abueloier is just a perfectly fitting situation and also getting his arm cut off. By a chainsaw. So he matches Richas now. I think instead of roier it would be abueloier who cuts his arm off I think, in a last ditch effort to stay alive, or maybe Roier deserves to cut off some arms idk. I think Ballister’s noble ideals really align with Cellbit’s, but also Cellbit would probably be a little more aggressive than Ballister is in the movie when stressed, I.e Fugo Impossivel Cellbit. ALSO HE ALREADY HAS THE DARK KNIGHT AESTHETIC IN QSMP

Roier - Ambrosius, perfect because Roier used to be really buddy buddy with the Federation and with Cucurucho but because of Bobby and Cellbit started to view them as more sinister. I think that both his arcs of trusting cellbit even through his traitor arc and distrusting cellbit because he murdered his grandpa are well-reflected in Ambrosius’ arc in the film. In this version of the movie Nimona (Bobby and Richas) and Ambrosius interact more because even though they’re little monsters the Bobby-Richas bond with Roier is too good. The only reason I was at first considering Roier for Ballister is because of the Ballister-Nimona bond but like Cellbit fits the role so much better.

Richas and Bobby - Both Nimona, somehow. Little dragon shapeshifters that cause trouble, constantly bicker, and just want to be loved. Bobby, of course, fits Nimona a little bit better with their temperaments but I feel the fatherly-son bond between Richas and Cellbit is too good to pass up. Also Richas is definitely capable of anarchy.

Idk, Tilin?? - Gloreth. Honestly any of the egg kids reskinned to just be regular children would work for this (Pomme? Tallulah?? Leo because Roier-Leo family relation?) , but I don’t think any of them would betray Bobby and Richas lol.

Jaiden - The squire. Because I feel she would accidentally witness a planned assassination and try to warn about it but fail and just be burdened with knowledge LOL. And, another change from the movie, during the kidnapping of Jaiden she bonds with Bobby and becomes part of the found family too.

Cucurucho - The Director. Because it hates Cellbit, likes to keep order, and wants to kill the eggs. Self explanatory!

The Institute - The Federation. Similar color schemes, similar control over the populace!

Abueloier - King/Queen + that jerk Todd guy. It’s perfect, he gets killed in the opening scene of the movie and you know Roier is like “how could you do this”. I feel that Abueloier and Cellbit had an ok dynamic at first that just worsened until Cellbit um. Killed him. So maybe that happens here too except this time Cellbit didn’t actually kill him and the royal sword was rigged by Cucurucho.

And Bobby actually dies at the end so there’s only Richas left. To keep it in canon. : ). Pain. He’s a hero though so. I Guess It’s Okay.

Interesting to me that Chad has never been ID’ed probably by the Feds. Does Jensen even know his true identity? I assume Jared does. Will this come up in the future?

Ah, asking about my beloved Chad, the way to my heart 🥰

Jared absolutely knows. He and Chad don't have any secrets and they shared everything that's important. Jensen knows the basics, Chad told him once when they were drunk. And he decided that he doesn't need to know more, because it wasn't very relevant because at that time they were already friends.

So Chad never having been ID’ed has very much to do with how he grew up. I think I only alluded to it, but my backstory for Chad… well, it’s a little whacky. But Chad’s whacky, so I needed something that would fit. Give him the skills and the paranoia and the need for family and a friend who loved him, but who’d also be his boss, you know. So Chad’s father belonged to one of these extremist, right-wing, separatist, living-off-the-grid, prepping-for-the-revolution nut jobs. So Chad was born on a compound which means there’s no birth certificate, no social security number etc. There’s no record of him. 

His mom eventually realized that living on a quasi para-military compound was not a lot of fun, and that her husband also cared more about training Chad for the revolution than about her (and they were also kind of a patriarchal misogynistic bunch unsurprisingly) and ran away with Chad, but she didn’t have any family for support ended up on the streets because she distrusted the government too much to get help. So Chad also grew up on the streets. He was probably around nine or ten then. He’d learned the basics of reading, writing and math on the compound, but the rest of his schooling was very indoctrinating. But on the streets, Chad learned pretty quickly that the whole racist, misogynistic, weird world order shit his father and his buddies were peddling was bullshit. Well, except for distrusting the authorities obviously, that stayed. His survival training was helpful though, Chad was good in a fight, and he was quick and stealthy enough to steal what he needed. Occasionally the cops would pick him up and put him in homes/foster care when he didn't give up his parent's names and no one reported him missing, but he had a habit of disappearing and he was in the system under different names. Eventually, as he got older, he got fake ids and fake driver’s licenses but yeah. (Fun fact, Chad Michael is actually his given name, Chad given to him by his father and Michael by his mom after her father, and Murray is his mom’s maiden name. He’s not close with her, I honestly don’t know if she’s still alive, but she did get him out of that compound.) There’s basically no paperwork on him and the police have no idea who his parents are. He’s now in the system as Chad Michael Murray, and the police obviously have his prints on file, but they have no idea what his background is. So they can’t id him properly, because Chad Michael Murray could be any name that he could have chosen for himself.

I don’t think that’s ever going to come up though. Chad’s surprisingly well adjusted, emotionally, for his background I think. A lot of that has to do with Sophia, she was really good for him, and then finding his place with Jared’s crew. There’s obviously his penchant for the criminal life and his need for superficial hookups for love while not being able to let any of them come close, but considering the circumstances, Chad’s resilient. I think that’s why he and Jared get along so well, they both hardened under difficult circumstances from a young age and they’re both survivors. But, erm yeah, that’s how I envision Chad’s very fucked up childhood. Probalby not at all realistic, but this is my sandbox and I get to torture them how I see fit 😅

And this got a lot longer than I thought it would, but I do love this Chad a lot. Thanks nonnie for giving me and opportunity to ramble about him!

HISTORY

words are just not coming to me atm so i will try to summarize this as quickly as i can and update it later

devon was raised by her single mother, teresa, in aspen, colorado until she was 10. her mother was an ex-convict who worked as a cook and singer before the outbreak. when the outbreak started, devon and her mother quickly abandoned their home and left for the austin QZ. they stayed there until civilian riots made it safer to leave

devon then lived on the outside from then on. They mainly bartered and traded with other survivors to meet their needs. they occasionally joined other survivor groups when they travelled, but always broke away when they got to their destination or had been with them for too long. her mother was too paranoid.

devon's mother was murdered when devon was 16 during a deal gone wrong. she had gone alone and while devon eventually went to look for her, she never found her mother or even her body. completely alone and unaccustomed to being around people, she joined a smuggling operation to meet her needs. she flitted between QZs and survived alone for a time.

years later, she came across a parent and child cornered by infected during a supply run. she was only able to save the child ( wc ) who told her about the community they had been with -- jackson

she took the child back to jackson, which at that point was more of a small group than a community. the community's leaders were wary of her — for good reason — but eventually she was allowed to pass through occasionally to trade and do business. she became close with the previous manager of casa del lirio during these trips, as they bonded over music and food.

similar to her mother's death, devon had been smuggling goods at a different QZ when the previous manager died. she didn't find out until weeks later when she finally returned to jackson. out of fear that the same thing could happen to the Kid, she decided to settle in jackson permanently.

the role as casa del lirio manager was basically thrust upon her because of her friendship with the previous manager.

PERSONALITY

her countenance is usually surly and discontent, and she can usually be found complaining with a scowl on her face

she's generally distrustful and pessimistic -- she's a practical person with a number of survival skills, but the reasons why she has those skills have left her quite negative and cynical

on that note, she's quite talented with all the skills one needs to survive. she can hunt, kill, provide first aid, build a shelter, and navigate through unknown environments. she's also very savvy when it comes to bartering because of her background

she is quite rude -- mostly because she just doesn't care to mince her words -- but she's not actually mean. if you only look at her actions, it's clear that she's actually an active member of the community and does a lot for the people in it.

she tends to remain closed off and distant to people because she has pretty severe abandonment issues and would prefer to avoid triggering them when possible

this, in turn, means that she is very protective of the people she cares about -- almost to an unhealthy degree. she's not obsessive but can be stubborn and controlling, though she doesn't mean to be

she's been in jackson for a long time so i would imagine most long-time inhabitants are used to her, but she's probably very off-putting if you're just meeting her

she loves music, mostly because her mother used to be a singer. devon knows how to play the guitar and her own is one of her most prized possessions. she frequently plays and sings at casa del lirio in tribute to her mother and the previous manager. she disappears almost immediately after because she finds the whole thing extremely intimate, which scares her, but she still feels compelled to do it.

WANTED CONNECTIONS

i'll update this later because i genuinely cannot think of any...

the Kid™ -- as described earlier, this is the child who she saved many years ago. they would be in their early twenties by now. devon and the Kid are very close, she sees them as a little sibling and cares about their safety above her own. i could see the Kid having a bit of a rebellious streak, sneaking out of jackson and doing dangerous things which put them at odds with devon a lot. i'm probably going to send this one to the main but if anyone wants to work it into their character's background, that would great too !

Tell me more about the selkie au 👀

Lol all you had to do was ask anon. So in those sketches I just posted, the first pic is their first official meeting. Ichigo finds Masaya in his seal form washed up on the shore, wrapped tightly in a fisherman’s net and unable to free himself. He also has something stuck around his neck so he’s struggling to breathe. He got separated from his mom while evading a predator and didn’t watch where he was going closely enough, so he managed to get himself stuck in that mess.

For that scene, I made it so that Ichigo is up in Hokkaido for a week during her spring break with her parents to visit her grandma because her grandfather recently passed away. Masaya and Ichigo are both about 7 years old. Her mom takes her by a beach so she can burn off some energy, and Ichigo wanders off, bored with waiting while her mom gets distracted talking to one of the locals. She finds Masaya while exploring and no one else is nearby. Initially, she’s excited to see a seal pup in the open but it quickly hits her how much he’s struggling and she’s overcome with sadness and worry.

Ichigo has always had a big heart and she can’t stand to see such a cute animal in trouble. She steels herself and gets to work trying to untangle the net from the seal. Masaya struggles half-heartedly at first but gives in since he’s too exhausted. He still watches her, waiting for a moment to flee if it arises, but when he sees the genuine look of innocent concern on Ichigo’s face, it makes him pause. He was always taught by his mom that humans are dangerous/can’t be trusted and to stay far away. However, as he studies her while she works, a teary but determined expression on her face, he’s confused since this human doesn’t seem so bad.

Ichigo finally succeeds in untangling Masaya from the net. Masaya braces himself, his pessimistic side thinking she’ll do something awful like try to carry him away, but Ichigo just watches him with a giddy smile, telling him he needs to find his mom now. Ichigo realizes that her mom is probably looking for her too so they’re basically in the same boat, and it makes her giggle. Masaya can’t quite understand her, but he’s moved by her selflessness. He returns to the sea and reunites with his mom.

Some other small details, that pic with kid Masaya with long hair is from a few days later. He watches from the water every day to see if Ichigo will come back because he wants to repay her for her kindness. She does come back and he sneaks closer to her and places a shell bracelet he made by her as thanks without her noticing him. She excitedly finds it and takes it home to Tokyo with her.

A year after those events, Masaya’s mother is killed by some fishermen illegally hunting seals. Masaya gets injured as well, but his mother is able to create an opportunity for him to swim away. He washes up badly injured on the shore, taking on his human form and passing out. When he wakes up, he’s in a hospital bed and doesn’t remember anything about himself.

The next events in the au involve Masaya being sent to an orphanage, learning to integrate with human society, and grappling with mysterious feelings of alienation/other-ness that he can’t explain. There’s also an underlying distrust and disgust with humans in general that he keeps under a carefully constructed mask of perfection. He feels an inexplicable pull to the sea and has dreams of being underwater, but he can’t make sense of it.

He’ll learn of a wealthy couple who lives near the ocean that are looking to adopt an heir and mold himself to their expectations to escape the orphanage he hates so much and to be closer to the sea. Once he gets adopted, he’ll go to the beach frequently to be alone with his thoughts. This is where he meets Ichigo again in the summer (she visits her grandma every year during her summer break) and thus their friendship will begin. Masaya will realize he feels differently around her compared to other humans, but he won’t know the reason why for a long time.

There’s a lot more, but this is all I’ll say for now. I mentioned in the tags of one of my posts that this au is slow burn. You basically get to see them grow up together and fall in love.

DIOGO

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?

He used to be a big crybaby and often got the sniffles over any little thing LOL but once again he changed and is "tougher" now. It's pretty hard to get him to cry these days, at least, in public anyways. Behind closed doors he tends to break down, or when he gets one of his infamous nightmares. (Which aren't the nightmares WE know cuz. robot but i won't get into that).

At heart he's still quite the crybaby to this day, even if he puts on a brave face.

☕️ HOT BEVERAGE - do they prefer hot or cold drinks? what is their favourite drink?

He gets SPECIAL robot rights and can actually consume food and drink but it’s not necessary KGNHKGH but he does prefer hot drinks! While it’s not rly needed he’s in a habit of making coffee for himself every morning or stopping by a coffee shop for it.

So yea I’d say his favorite drink is coffee made to his exact specifications.  Which is well.  Imagine a rly sweet and pretentious rich boy order and that’s his

Contrary to what he acts like, he’s genuinely happy to rly receive any gift- as long as it’s from someone he knows and actually likes.  Most of his apartment is decorated in this his partner brought back for him so HNGKHGH

However as for specifics, he really likes getting new crystals or geodes for his rock collection! Those make him very excited and you’ll probably get an accompanied ramble about the rock you gave him GKNHGKH Secondly he really likes plushes and soft things of that nature, little collectables, especially unicorn or cat themed ones.  (Whatever the squishmallow equivalent is in this universe, he loves it)  His bed is littered in them LOL

As for gift giving he’s really good at it! Very perceptive of what other people want/need and keeps it in mind when looking.  He doesn’t rly care about price as long as he’s sure the other person will love it, and spends a LOT of time picking out smth perfect.

OPAL

👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?

Opal doesn’t have any siblings, but their family is closely interconnected to his cousin’s Vivi! They basically grew up together cuz their families lived really close together but the two...never really got along.  Well, Vivi thought she did but it was more she kinda jokingly bullied Opal a lot in that kid kind of way w/o really realizing he didn’t think it was funny and he got rly tired of it.  They’re still in communication but Opal doesn’t really like it when she visits and often tries to avoid her as much as he can.  She’s just.  A lot.  They had their moments though and Opal DOES care about her and has gotten better at telling her to Not Do That, but she’s still...a lot.  And tiring.  And-

He doesn’t rly talk to his parents much anymore, they didn’t have the greatest relationship and they often passed him off to his aunt and uncle.  So a part of him was jealous Vivi’s parents were better than his, cuz his were...not great!  They were mostly just absent and didn’t really care to give him attention besides an idle sentence before going back to what they were doing.  Which made Opal a pretty lonely kid :[ So bc of that there’s not rly a relationship between them at all, Opal saved up his money and moved away and that was that.  He has no interest trying to communicate with them again.

💤 SLEEPING - do they fall asleep easily? what helps them sleep?

He has insomnia so it’s pretty hard for him to fall asleep, but usually once he is he’s like a rock.  Unless he gets a nightmare which then he’ll wake back up and not Want to go back to sleep.

Opal is on medication for it though! Since it’s smth that he’s struggled with for a long time, but he only got medicated fairly recently after an incident at his old workplace before he changed jobs.  Though outside of that, cuddling a plush or his partner helps a lot GKHNGKH or just being wrapped up tight in a blanket, just feeling comforted in some fashion helps him get to sleep.  Also playing soft music in the background to give his mind something to focus on besides his own thoughts.

🌱 SEEDLING - what is their most vivid memory from childhood?

When he changed his name! It was pretty big to him and it was when he was pretty young, only really realizing he can call himself WHATEVER he WANTED cuz his friend (Wally) did that sort of stuff and opened his eyes to it GKHNGKH

What rly sticks out is that he told his best friend Wally first abt his name, picking Opulence bc it’s a really pretty word in his mind and also what he DESERVES.  Granted they were rly young and Wally kind of struggled saying it and shorted it to Opal instead, giving Opal his current nickname that most tend to use.

It was one of the happiest moments for him in his childhood so he remembers it quite fondly.

There’s also a moment w/his cousin Vivi that he still gets nightmares abt and gave him a phobia of spiders. But he chooses not to think about that too much <3

📣 MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim?

Opal can be ... pretty loud honestly LOL Incredibly boastful and proud you’ll know when they’re around cuz they don’t really. Shut Up. KGNHGKH but as for speaking they use a pretty long-winded manner of speaking and ramble quite often, usually boasting or using some other theatrics in their speech.  Though they also don’t use contractions!  They think they sound more dignified that way.  Honestly they speak they way they do to sound smarter but they just sound Really Annoying.

As for voice claim, imagine RouxIs Kaard.  Whatever voice u have for him in ur head.  That’s Opal’s-

Astarion x Ace!Tav Reverse AU Rambles

Okay basic run down of this AU; Tav is the rich noble captured by Cazador and turned into a vampire and Astarion is the scrappy abandoned street kid

Astarion was abandoned by his parents at a very young age and grew up rough on the streets of Baldur's Gate, learning to pickpockets and kill to survive. He got taken in by the thieves guild, but never formed any particularly close bonds, taking a "fuck you got mine" philosophy early on. He also quickly discovered how his looks could be an asset. He has used sex to allow him access to wealthy estates steal any variety of things from jewels to incriminating letters. It's just another tool in his arsenal and one he can enjoy now and again.

Tav meanwhile was the child of a well to do family, providing them a loving home and a wealth of opportunities. They found a talent for music, one that was nurtured from a young age. Bards would be brought to their home, but Tav would sneak out to see them in action, performing in taverns and streets in order to fully appreciate the music. During one of these nights Tav was attacked and left for dead, only for Cazador to find them. In pain and afraid, they accepted his gift thinking he had saved them; oh Gods if they had only known then.

Tav was taught how to use their music to charm and enchant people, acting as a pied piper to lead victims to their master with the promise of a "private performance".

Sometimes a target would get pushy and then Tav would get on their knees or their back to provide them a "preview".

Please them, submit, don't cause waves, smile, compliment and if they demand more, give them more.

It's was this attitude that lead them to be one of Cazador's "favorites". He'd grant them unexpected mercies for being so obedient only to bring them more pain later at some imagined transgression.

They were so full of hope, it was satisfying to him every single time.

When they’re taken by the nautiloid Tav’s only goal is to get back to Baldur’s Gate as surely their master would be looking for them

And then they realize they can walk in the sun and a whole new world opens up to them

Astarion is not what you would call impressed by them upon first meeting

He takes one look at their fine clothes and wide eyed gaze and pegs them for a pretty little songbird plucked from their gilded cage

Their penchant for helping every soul they come across doesn’t help with his assessment and Tav keeps their history with Cazador close to the chest

It’s easy to divert attention as they are so practiced at being charming and pleasing to everyone

It’s only further into their travels that Astarion starts to notice little inconsistencies in his initial assessment

They’re oddly calm around blood and carnage

Once they start to open up, he catches onto their quick wit and often dark sense of humor

They let the little things like petty thievery slide

He takes a closer look at their clothes, and though fine, they are old and fraying at the edges

Then there are the string of dead mangled animals following where ever they go; Wyll seems to think it’s a vampire

It’s only after he catches Tav fangs deep in a boar are his new suspicions confirmed

Tav is fearful this means they're going to be kicked out from the group, or even killed, but after the initial shock wears off, nobody can voice any objections. They feed off on animals and have done nothing but try to help from the moment they all met.

It's Astarion's reaction that surprises them most

They expect hostility and immediate distrust. What they got was all too blase. So long as they keep their fangs far away from his neck, he doesn't mind them sticking around. Plenty of non-vampires drain the life of other living creatures without even the excuse of dietary restrictions. He's honestly more annoyed with himself for not realizing sooner.

This is also when they start to open up about Cazador and Astarion starts to re-examine his assumptions

Tav isn't trying to help everyone just because it's the right thing to do; they feel immense guilt about what they had to do under Cazador going so far as to say they remember every single one they brought to their master

They want to somehow make it right, to be the person they wished had come and saved them all those years ago

The sentiment leaves a bitter taste in Astarion's mouth

Two hundred years of torture without a single person lifting a finger to help them and they still believed somebody would eventually save them? And now their bending over backwards to prove themselves right? How disgustingly romantic. How painfully naive.

He knows he wouldn't have saved them. If he had met them, he would have saw them as the pretty little rich bard they appeared to be. He would have smiled and charmed his way into their bed none the wiser. They may have even tried to warn him, to protect him even after he used them with the full intent of slipping away in the morning. He wouldn't have been their savior and that… gnaws at him in a way he can't describe

He sees how the others flutter about them and that dark twisting knot pulls at his chest, because that's what Tav deserves. People that would have helped

Still they continue on their journey and Tav starts to push what they can do now that they're no longer under Cazador's rule

Astarion is the one who encourages them the most to embrace fully who they are

Yes, they are a creature of the night. Have fun with it. So what if you need to drink blood to survive? I've met far worse non-vampires than you. That bandit was going to kill us. Take a bite. Be stronger. Be better. You're not Cazador. You're incapable of it. I'm not afraid of you who why should you be afraid of yourself?

This culminates if Tav finally having their first taste of blood from a thinking being

They get to the Shadow cursed lands, food is scarce and they just keep putting off eating to the point that Astarion starts to notice. He doesn't know how anyone else is missing it, but he knows starvation when he sees it. He confronts Tav about it and they break down about their fears and Cazador's rule about drinking the blood of living beings.

It's then Astrion offers his neck, telling them it's time to break the rules

Tav is still afraid to hurt him and so forgoes the neck, taking his wrist instead for her first bite

There's pain at first, but Astarion can't help but watch in fascination as they feed, even running his free hand through their hair to encourage them to have their fill

Eventually they breaks away, a little embarrassed and mumbling their thanks

Astarion isn't sure if it's the bloodloss or just Tav, but they might be the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

They look happy, healthy in a way he hasn't seen in weeks. He gave that to them.

He encourages Tav to keep feeding off of him, pushing his own limits of how much he can give.

Tav is constantly checking in to see if it's alright, but he doesn't want them to stop. He wants them to take everything, to not be afraid of what they are. He wants to show them that he can handle it, that he might have not be their savior, but he can give them this.

He doesn't want her to hide from him

He confesses all of this one night, it's the closest he's ever come to saying "I love you" and meaning it

most of the time, he smells like soil with a vague hint of herbs, flowers, and dew. occasionally there’s a mix of oil and metal, but that’s only if he’s been playing around with a mechanical project.

2. What do your muse’s hands feel like?

quite soft. he’s got a couple callouses but they’re small and almost unnoticeable, oftentimes healing over because he gives them time to do so. his hands are his way of experiencing the world around him, so it’s important to him that nothing impedes that ability.

3. What does your muse usually eat in a day?

whatever's around the house. usually this is very basic, simple foods that are inexpensive and easy to prepare — a lot of sandwiches, soups, cereals, rice, that sort of thing. on occasion there's a splurge for something more interesting and more tasty, but that's largely based on whether the money is available or if there's something to celebrate, like someone's birthday or a holiday. other than that? a lot of coffee, at least 2-3 cups a day.

4. Does your muse have a good singing voice?

yes, actually, but it's rare for anyone but his plants to hear it. he's too shy to sing in front of people and really only does it when he gets wrapped up enough in his plant care that he forgets to worry that someone else might walk into the greenhouse and overhear him.

5. Does your muse have any bad habits or nervous ticks?

one could certainly argue that his coffee drinking has become a bad habit, with how many cups he has in a day. he also tends to slouch a bit. as far as nervous tics though, he has a lot of those. lots of fidgeting, especially playing with his sleeves, the end of his shirt, or any jewlery he might have on. he shifts his stance a lot, plays with his fingers, chews on his lip or the inside of his cheek, and, when it comes to conversation, he stammers, pauses often, and interjects with a lot of 'uhms.'

6. What does your muse usually look like / wear?

his hair is usually a bit ruffled and mildly unkempt, but otherwise he's very clean. his clothes are almost always a bit too big for him, but he takes comfort in that — especially in sweaters that are too large. his typical outfit consists of pants that are a size or two up, oftentimes jeans or sweatpants (but he'll wear anything that's comfortable), an oversized t-shirt of some sort, and a huge sweater on top of that — either a hoodie or a jumper. sometimes he'll opt for a long-sleeved shirt, but he prefers a good sweater. ultimately, his favourite clothing is based on comfort & softness, as well as how easily he can simply hide himself in it.

7. Is your muse affectionate? How much? How so?

yes, but with extreme selectivity. while he remains kind with most people unless given reason to not be, he has a great deal of distrust toward most. only those he trusts receive his genuine affection, and he has to trust them more or less implicitly. once someone holds his trust though, he is quite affectionate — how he displays it and how much he displays it depends a lot from person to person, however. by default with anyone he trusts, si-u takes no issue in touching, though he balances this on their preferences over his own. in most of these cases, he'll take their hand or grasp their arm when they're out walking, allowing them to lead the way, and easily engages in affectionate acts like hugging. with those he's especially close with, si-u can be almost clingy; he'll sit very close so as to feel their movements & take comfort in their presence, he'll hold onto them even if they're just sitting at home, he'll play with their fingers or the sleeves of their shirts, lean against them, hang off of them, etc. he's very touchy with those people he trusts with his life. another big show of affection of his that spans even to those who haven't fully gained his trust but are close to it comes in the form of gifts, usually that of plants. if he offers you one, whether you accept it or not, it means he likes you quite a bit.

8. What position does your muse sleep in?

fetal position, on his side with his arms and legs pulled toward his chest. he basically curls up into a ball. there's definitely an aspect of self-comforting that comes with this choice of sleeping position, and maybe it's simply because it's the way he's slept since he was very young, but it's the position he's most comfortable in.

9. Could you hear your muse in the hallway from another room?

no. si-u is very aware of the volume of his voice and actions and he's careful to ensure he's as quiet as possible while also being audible enough for those in the room to be able to hear him speak or, at the very least, know that he's there. he likes to be as unnoticeable as possible, but also hates to accidentally frighten those who enter the room without necessarily realizing he's there. much of this is habit from his younger years wherein being quieter meant he was less likely to be harrassed.

my take on Dani Masters!

She’s Danny from a different timeline instead of being a clone. In her world, the Fenton parents succeed in becoming world renowned scientists and hold a government funded lab. they were working on a portable ghost zone gun (saying portal gun just makes me think of Portal). In this timeline, jack and maddie are outright bad people, and used the portal gun on Dani. Vlad was her protector, her parents (and GiW) are after her.

Now back to Danny’s world. Vlad decided to kidnap a Danny from a different timeline, grabs Dani on accident. Instead of rejecting her, both parties are on board. Dani is quick to be spoiled by riches and power.

In school Dani is the opposite of Danny Fenton: she’s social, charming and fun to be around. Just as Danny is more confident and heroic in his phantom form, Dani is now the opposite in her’s. She’s closed off, distrustful, and downright angry at the world.

Basically, I wanted Dani to be the “what if Danny sided with Vlad?” scenario while still being in the shadow of Danny for being visually the same. While I like the Clone angle, the logical part of my brain can’t get over how Dani is like, 5 months old, so different timeline nonsense works for me instead.

There’s lots of comedy potential with Dani being around. Dani is the Cooler Danny.

Everyone in school is like “wow Dani is so cool” and Danny is like ??? me??? and they’re like. No. And then the gags get more specific, when Dani does cool shit like skateboards to class, pulls pranks, and Fenton gets into trouble. Dash says Dani is hot. Dani teases Danny that she’s going to date the jock. Danny decides right then that they’re mortal enemies.

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E131 (March 30, 2021)

Tonight’s guests are Liam O’Brien and Sam Riegel!

Brian points out that a lot of Caleb’s greatest fears have come to pass. Liam: “It’s funny, because he’d kind of believed for a while that those things weren’t going to happen. After a while, he got complacent.” He notes that it was extra wild because everything with Trent popped up again in the midst of that complacency. And how did it feel to be defiant toward Trent? “I think Trent successfully made Caleb question if Caleb really was in control“ at the dinner party. “I feel like anything that I do is part of his plans for me, or is that just gaslighting? I’m legitimately scared of that dude.” Sam: “Of Matt?” Liam: “Sure.” He highlights the disconnect between knowing that the M9 is mechanically powerful and could possibly defeat Trent in a dice-and-stats battle, versus fearing him in a story sense and being convinced he can do almost anything.

Sam, on Luc’s death: “That was brutal, man. Matt Mercer is a-- he hates children! Clearly. He actively sought to kill a child in the campaign in as brutal a way as possible. He hates children and wants them dead. Canon. No, but to RP, that was horrible.” He highlights that so much of Veth’s arc has been about trying to get back to her family. “We had to choose something and we thought we were making the right choice. It was all Veth’s fault, and it was pretty rotten. My heart was beating pretty fast, and I certainly didn’t want to have my son die live on the stream. I don’t know what Veth would have done. That’s the end, that’s over. It’s almost worse than when your own character would die. This is something that would also kill Veth.” After the episode was over: “just shaken. I also didn’t know what to do next! That felt like a turning-point moment for my character, weirdly so close to what we assume to be the end arc of this campaign. I texted Matt later that night and was like, that’s it, Veth’s out, I’m tapping out.”

There’s an interlude in which Sam discovers a new dream to record an episode of this show from his Peloton. Dani informs him that she will not be inviting him back.

On Astrid, Liam: “I literally don’t know what she’s doing. I know that she’s dangerous, she always was ambitious, and there’s not been a moment where Caleb let his guard down with her. He’s not trying to reestablish what they had. He cares for the both of them, for Astrid and Eodwulf. He thinks about it a lot, still. He can’t tell how much she buys into everything that she experienced and is now living as a full-grown adult. He suspects that she’s bought in and is not going to change things, because she believes in the system, as much as he’d like to peel her away. He does believe that they want what’s best for the Empire, and stopping whatever wants to come vomiting out of a hole in the frozen north is good for everyone. And they’re powerful. They’re not trustworthy, obviously. But there’s enough at stake to make it worth it. He could imagine a situation where they fight each other to the death.” He was convinced Astrid was going to stop them when they left the tower and was really shocked when she held back. Sam: “Not me! I’ve trusted Astrid since day one. She’s the greatest! I sent a letter to her, she’s very nice, I think you guys would be a nice couple. I believe every word she says.”

On having to decide on Veth deciding to go off and save the world after Luc’s death. “Like I said, I was ready to be done. And then I decided somewhere in there that that’s not very D&D. So I thought I’d leave it up to somebody else, so I asked Caduceus to decide for me, essentially. She knows she’s putting her other family in danger if she doesn’t go. It’s an impossible choice, you know?” Liam: “I love watching you grapple with it, because you’re a lovely father and love your kids.”

On the Sanatorium, Sam: “That was brutal, man. Matt lulls you into a sense of complacency. We’d forgotten that Caleb was a stone-cold killer! It had been a while since he went on a murder spree. Still got it!” Liam: “I never meant for this character to be perfect sunshine.” Brian: “You don’t say.” Liam: “He’s very not-perfect, and I think in his brain, he was going in with the impression that they needed to get in and get out as soon as possible. The place is crawling with people with magic ability, and I didn’t have faith that we wouldn’t be sussed out or something wasn’t going to blow an illusion.” Everything was about getting out of there as fast as possible.

Did the conversation with Yeza help with Veth’s decision? “First of all, every conversation with Yeza is a beautiful one. Every time she talks to Yeza, it makes her feel good. In some ways, she’s gotten to the point now where she knows Yeza’s going to be supportive, she knows he’s going to allow her to do what she wants, but maybe that’s too much. Maybe she needs to not listen to him, basically, and be like, no, you need to be selfish now, dude, you need to say ‘come home, I’m sick of you leaving’. At a certain point, being supportive can turn into being enabling.”

On Trent’s motivations for chasing Caleb: “I really don’t know. The simplest explanation is to just hammer down the nail that’s sticking up. It has crossed his mind that all high-level wizards are in danger of their own ambition and egos, so it’s occurred to him that Trent might have the same kind of ideas that Halas had in the past, and maybe Caleb was always meant to be another body to jump into. Maybe in some sick, disgusting, twisted way, he wants him to be his successor. I am thinking of the next campaign, without getting too deep in, trying to do something that is much more ride-along. Caleb is very, very specific, and I thought long and hard about all the different pieces on the chessboard for him. For campaign three, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.”

Dani: “Do I need to be keeping lore on your fucking ads?”

On the cursed dagger: “It was a tricky one, because in campaign one, one of the characters was under the influence of a cursed weapon, but it interacted with him and he knew what it was and what it did. And it affected his gameplay as a character. For me, Veth didn’t know what it was, ever. I as a player knew what it was doing, but Veth didn’t know at all. So it was kind of like my dirty, dark secret for many months. I knew this thing was coming perilously close to killing me, but my character didn’t know enough to bring it up to her friends. Nobody ever asked! So I was like, well, I guess this thing’s just going to kill me one day, and it’s kind of going to be a surprise.” Liam: “Sam, you love danger and self-destruction so much, you might as well be Mollymauk.”

On the fight in Yasha’s sequence, Sam: “You gotta put a character in your storm giant creature. It was so fun! It was so great of Matt to involve us in this encounter. It would’ve been fun just to watch, because Matt would have made it amazing and Ashley was sweating bullets, which is always fun to watch.” Sam notes he felt guilty, but Liam was going for the kill. Liam: “Matt’s gotta be careful about giving me that kind of story beat. I do not fucking care, I just fucking flip, I’m like, well, I’m going to destroy you, and I have no qualms about it. It’s too much fun!”

The Beau/Yasha tower date was in part inspired by not being able to give gifts as easily this last year. “This thing that we do together is a gift, but I love finding these moments, like the book for Jester and the tower for Yasha and for Beau. I really just wanted to give both of them a little magic for a night. I wanted them to leave this-- we’re trying to be as entertaining as possible, but shit is having an effect on all of us too, and I wanted them to have an escape, a great place to escape to.”

On choosing Essek over Trent, Liam: “It would have been so interesting and awful and great! Essek and Astrid and Eodwulf are everything that Bren used to be attracted to that are terrible for him. Essek, hopefully he can with time find a way out of the hole that he dug himself into, but it was only two months ago where he was found out and his ambitions came crashing down around him. Long-term, I have high hopes for him, but I think it’s going to be hard.” In contrast, Astrid and Eodwulf are still “deep in the shit. It would have been really hard to navigate, but fun to play at the table. We made the right choice with what we went with. Essek’s just getting started, and Caleb doesn’t trust him entirely, because he was burned so hard not too long ago. He’s still more trustworthy than the other three. So it’s the better choice. While Caleb has all these ties on the other side, they’re really fucking dangerous. So if you have to choose, you choose Essek. But fuck that die.” Sam: “Veth, much like Sam Riegel, makes instant decisions about whether to trust someone or not and sticks to it forever. Astrid, 100% trust. Eodwulf, 100% distrust. Essek, completely distrust. I still don’t think he’s a good guy. Ikithon? Trust. 100%. Because you know where he’s coming forward, you know what he wants. I still want him dead, but I trust him.”

On Veth’s post-adventuring plans: “Veth is probably still too in it right now to think about what comes next. I, Sam Riegel, have a good idea of what I want Veth to do post-campaign.” Brian: “Maybe you shouldn’t tell us. Save it for the show!” Sam: “All she knows is she can’t do this anymore. It’s very unhealthy to be battle-wounded every other day. It’s fun for a while, but college has to end at some point, and she’s gotta go home.”

On Frumpkin changing appearance and returning to the Feywild: “I don’t know what I’m going to do, but the way it feels now for Caleb is that he feels too enmeshed in everything that has happened, and too much good has happened, and too much needs to happened, that that really narcissistic, selfish goal has the risk of harming everything else, which is more important. And that’s how he looks at it now. So he’s gearing towards letting everything from the beginning of the campaign, and where he started, go, and trying to figure out what use he’s going to be now and what he’s going to do if they’re not all dead. If Matt throws that shit down, I don’t know what I will do, I think about it a lot. But turning Frumpkin white and saying you’re free either way is him preparing to let go of everything he’s been holding on to for a really long time. He’s addicted to that idea that he can fix himself, and we’ll see if that hard choice gets presented, what he might do. But where he stands now, he doesn’t think that’s going to be reality, and he sees a way that he can be of use that he never really anticipated before, so he’s slowly shifting gears towards living with the pain he was trying to remove.”

On the last request scene and confidence heading into Aeor, Sam: “I feel like that’s a good request. I think all of us realized that if we die, that probably bodes badly for the world. I feel like all of us are at a point now as characters and as friends, that the first order of business would be to take care of everybody else’s shit, although we probably have different ideas of how to do that.” Liam: “I want the Empire to be healed, Caleb has all these memories of his parents and what they wanted for the world, and he wants that too. It’s clearly not in place now, the system needs to be broken and replaced. That could be a part of Caleb’s sunset. I don’t want Caleb to die, so maybe he can work on that after. As everything starts to shake out and we start heading towards our destiny, Caleb’s just free-floating. He’s not even going after the same thing he started for. So he’s looking at Veth’s family, and Luc specifically, and seeing that’s me, that’s a little boy in the Empire.”
