percy as a baker/pastry chef percabeth au please :)
okayokay but here me out: percabeth au where they meet the same way you and pastry boy did 👀 (or any sort of percabeth college au you write is pure gold!!)
Sweet on America AUPart 1
“This is ridiculous.”
Piper glances up from her phone to throw Annabeth a look, half exasperated and half teasing. “It’s not ridiculous. It’ll work, trust me.”
“What if I don’t want it to work?” Annabeth says, tucking her feet up underneath herself on the couch and rolling her eyes.
“You do want it to work, or you would have ripped the phone out of my hands by now.”
Annabeth narrows her eyes. “Don’t tempt me.”
“Shut up and help me pick the last photo. What about this one?” Piper holds her phone up, showcasing a photo of Annabeth posing on the Golden Gate Bridge from the last time she visited her dad. “You look really cute in it. Look at that smile.”
Annabeth smiles now, wide and exaggerated and clearly sarcastic. “Sure. Whatever.”
“Jesus, Annabeth, can you at least pretend to be a little excited about this? We could be about to find your soulmate!” Piper exclaims, turning the phone around and getting back to constructing Annabeth’s profile.
“Ew, don’t.” Annabeth throws her head back, letting it sink into the soft cushions. “Just because you’re all loved up with Jason and want someone to go on double dates with -”
“That is not why we’re doing this,” Piper says without looking up.
“It is so why you’re doing this,” Annabeth counters.
Piper pauses her typing to look her in the eye. “We are doing this because it would be nice for you to meet someone new.”
“I don’t need to meet anyone new. My friend quota is already full, thanks.”
“But this isn’t for a friend, it’s for a -”
“If you say ‘lover’ I’m throwing your phone out the window.”
“- date. A date, Annabeth. Don’t hurt my phone.”
Annabeth frowns down at the photo and then sighs, rolling her eyes and lolling her head back dramatically. “Fine. That photo is fine.”
Piper beams and selects it. “Great.”
Five minutes later and she’s practically in Annabeth’s lap as they peruse all of the profiles on offer. And Annabeth will never admit it, but swiping through these photos is kind of fun.
Because that’s all they really are right now, just photos. She analyses their composition, the rule of thirds, the eye contact the guys are making with the camera. She and Piper come up with a list of guidelines: If it’s a shirtless mirror selfie, they’re out. If every photo is a group photo, they’re out. If their bio is empty, they’re out.
They’re still laughing at a ridiculous photo of a guy in a muscle shirt posing on the hood of his shitty car when the next potential match pops up, and the two of them immediately fall silent.
It’s a mirror selfie, but he’s wearing a remarkably well fitted Henley shirt that’s the same shade of blue as his eyes, and his smile is distractingly lovely. Annabeth’s eyes linger on it for longer than they have any of the other photos, but Piper’s gasp draws her attention further down the screen.
‘Percy, 25, Pastry Chef.’
“Pastry chef?!” they say in unison.
“Oh my god, yes, swipe right.” Annabeth reaches over her to swipe her approval.
Instantly, a new screen appears: ‘It’s a match!’
Annabeth’s eyes go wide. It’s not the first match she’s made, but it is the first one she’s actually, actively wanted.
“We have to message him!” Piper squeals, navigating to the ‘messages’ tab.
Annabeth’s stomach drops as she realises there might actually be some stakes here. “No, wait -”
“Oops, my finger slipped,” Piper says coyly, turning the screen just slightly too slowly to hide the barrage of multicoloured hearts that she’s sent floating up the screen and clogging the conversation window.
“Oh my god, Piper! He’s going to think I’m desperate!” Annabeth is embarrassed by how openly annoyed she is at that prospect.
Piper’s grin is far too knowing. “Don’t worry, I’ll fix it.”
She types quickly and presses send before Annabeth can approve the message; ‘Sorry, I’m still getting used to the app and didn’t realise the heart button would do that.’
“You’re making me look like an idiot,” Annabeth says, frowning.
As she’s watching the screen, a new message pops up; ‘Haha that’s all good.’
She takes a deep breath and settles. It’s just words on a screen, nothing to stress about it. Just a cute photo of a cute boy, nothing serious at all.
Piper smiles as she reads his reply. “See, everything’s fine.”
“Yeah,” Annabeth agrees. “Totally fine.”
Piper’s smile falls away as an alarm dings on her phone. “Oh, I’ve gotta go pick up Jason from training. I’ll send you all the messages you get!”
Annabeth watches her gather her things and walks her to the door. “Just keep the explicit ones to yourself, thanks.”
“Oh, I’m going to screenshot them and read them out at your engagement party.”
“You know that you’re the worst, right?”
“Absolutely. Love you!” Piper waves wildly as she runs down the stairs to her car.
Annabeth’s apartment is suddenly overwhelmingly quiet. With Piper gone, she’s left with nothing but the warm glow of the afternoon sun and an overwhelming craving for a croissant.
