Did you see the RWBY volume 9 epilogue?
I'm happy there was more to it than what we got from last year and that we actually got to see characters like Nora Oscar and Ren featured as important characters
I'm especially Happy Oscar actually got to be in it because to be honest he gets excluded so much I was actually shocked he had a part and we actually got to focus on him for once
This also gives me hope that they'll do something similar like they did with cinder ,with Oscar because I believe it was possibly said in a q&a or in a live stream
that originally they wanted to do cinders backstory and volume 4-5 when we thought she got killed off again but they kept having to push it back along with other things they wanted to do for certain characters
and since many think Oscar is possibly not going to make it through his merge and it will be just ozpin/Oz
when it's done maybe we'll actually get to see his past and maybe because Oscar is merging with Ozpin that means his memories are catching up with Oz's memories and will maybe get to see Oz's past too because that's something we've all wondered about as well
and maybe we'll get a hint at where the final relic is because I don't believe the writers are just going to wait tell the last minute to show us were it is I think they're going to hint at it
I don't Oscar part sense he my favorite along side ozpin
what do you think 🤔
Hiya Autumn o/ Thank you so much for your inbox and pardon the late reply.
To answer your first question, yes, I did see the full V9 Epilogue Animatic. TWICE and I plan on rewatching it many, many times because I haven’t recovered from it yet.
I know I’ve been relatively silent these days especially when it comes to this newly dropped animatic. But that’s mostly because I haven’t fully gathered my thoughts on it yet to form a consisive essay.
My head is still reeling from all that was revealed in that short space of animatic frames, particularly the bits about Oscar and what he’s currently going through. As a Pinehead, you just know that part got to me the most because BOI! WAS IT GOOD! Oscar-worthy, as I might say,
So if I may, and if you don’t mind m’fam, I am going to piggyback off of your inboxed message and use this as opportunity to get some of my main thoughts about Oscar’s side of the Epilogue off of my chest. So here I go.
According to the RWBY V9 full Epilogue Animatic…
Oscar’s story with the Merge with Oz has officially started with him isolating himself from his friends while he goes through it on his own, practically dooming him (and essentially Oz as well) to suffer in silence.
Tumblr media
But while that’s how things seem to be starting, if it doesn’t end with a scene where Oscar is going through the Merge but this time he’s surrounded by all of his friends all vowing to stay by side through it all and cherish him for who he is---Oscar---no matter who he becomes after the Merge.
If it doesn’t end with all of Oscar’s friends being there for him during the Merge (ESPECIALLY Ruby) then, like Jon Snow , I don't want it.
I don’t know how Oscar’s story will end.
The way I perceive it, Oscar’s story can end in many possible different ways.
In one way, Oscar’s story could end the way it was originally intended to, according to the natural progression of the narrative.---with Salem being defeated, Ozma finally moving on and Oscar being allowed to live the rest of his days as himself, Merge completely avoided.
Or like a Shamalan movie, it can end with a twist. Maybe Oscar isn’t so lucky and doesn’t avoid the Merge like his predecessors and is changed forever.
Maybe Oscar gets attack by Tyrian and “dies” forcing the Merge to happen as a way to save his life.
Maybe Oscar is taken to the Tree and gets to meet the Blacksmith who decides his final fate in the Merge.
Or who knows? Maybe the CRWBY Writers saw the recent 60th anniversary Doctor Who special and have the brilliance to put a new spin on the whole Ozma cycle where instead of Oscar merging with Oz, the two split apart with either wizards retaining their memories and single identities.
Tumblr media
Instead of Oscar of losing himself to the Merge, he is set free leaving Ozma to carry on his mission to the Gods as himself. So no more pairing him up with like-minded souls. Like Oscar, Ozma is now his own person with his own agency. So even if he died again, similar to Salem, Ozma was still immortal only now he would simply come back in his original body as opposed to the former latter of playing hot potato with his soul inhabiting another poor innocent man or young boy’s body. All this with the extra added bonus that now we have two great and powerful wizards for the price of one. Both Oscar and the newly reincarnated Ozma (who gets back his original form---the one that was married to Salem and equally as powerful as her) retained his combat-ready muscle memory and shared ability to use magic. So Ozma, naturally fights with his trademark Long Memory, while Oscar uses magic freehand without the need for the cane.
That last one’s a big stretch but like all of my past Pinehead headcanons that I’ve tossed aimlessly into the ether of the FNDM community, I’m keeping it on the table of possibilities since it’d make a sick Oscar the Sorceror’s Apprentice Pinehead headcanon AU. Definitely adding that one to the list.
---
Anyways, getting back on track. Through everything that Oscar has been put through in the story so far, the most I want from this whole Merge storyline is that he doesn’t have to go through it on his own and I don’t mean, he’s going through it with just Oz as his main company.
What I mean for that is, I don’t think the implications of what the Merge means has truly sunk in for the rest of the hero team. A part of me wishes to assume that part of the reason why the rest of the hero team seems so nonchalant about Oscar’s whole merge with Oz is because Oscar has never truly been honest with them about how he really feels about the merge.
Tumblr media
The last time Oscar spoke about the Merge with the team was back in V6 when he basically did it in such a “no biggie; don’t worry about me” sort of way that it came off as if he just said it to sound brave in the moment for the sake of the team and for the sake of keeping his own emotions in check.
I say this because as we’ve seen from the events of V7 through V8, Oscar is very anxious about the Merge. He doesn’t want it to happen which is why he and Oz are now fighting to keep it from happening even though it’s already long begun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bottom-line, I don’t think Oscar has been completely honest with anyone else outside of Oz about how he truly feels concerning the Merge. And now that it’s happening, he’s basically resolved himself to go through it alone. I don’t even think anyone else in the current group; not Nora, not Emerald, not even Ren (who literally has the ability to read someone’s thoughts and feelings through their emotions) knows about what he’s going through.
I wonder if Oscar puts on a brave face whenever he’s with the others and anytime he feels another “Merger episode” coming along, he quickly excuses himself (probably claiming that he needs to get back to his research in the Archives of Solitude) so the others don’t have to see him going through it.
Ren, in particular, because I’m sure if Ren saw Oscar’s pain from the Merge, he would blurt it out. Ren has now become the unsung singing canary of the hero team after his whole semblance upgrade.
Just like how he blurted out that Ozpin was back during the tunnel walk back in V8 following the rescue mission and escape from Monstro, Ren would definitely reveal that Oscar is going through the Merge if he knew he was going through it and having a painful grand ole time too.
Tumblr media
Ren’s inability to remain discrete when revealing another’s true emotions could probably explain why Oscar has been avoiding alone time with him.
If you look at it, Ren is on his own probably stretching himself between helping everyone. It’s also interesting to me that Oscar hasn’t asked anyone else to help look for stuff in the Shade Archives.
Even if Oscar is technically two people in one, that is still a big ass library of books and archives to sift through for even two people. And yet, as we saw from the epilogue, Oscar is ALONE most of the time and I highly doubt no one else offered to help him in the libraries.
I know the Atlesian refugees are a priority but, when you look closely, everyone else is basically sharing the work; helping each other out with something. Nora is supporting folks like SSSN and CVFY.
Same for Ren. Em as well (even though she’s mostly mentioned in notes in the scene in the animatic).
But when you look to Oscar. He is ALL BY HIMSELF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, he has Oz with him. But, that doesn’t count. Why hasn’t anyone else volunteered to help Oscar in the archives?
My assumption is because Oscar probably convinced the others to leave the archives to him (and Oz) and prioritize the refugees as a way of ensuring that he’s by himself at all times so no one would have to glimpse his pain from the Merge.
Again, each time a merger episode was highlighted in the epilogue animatic, Oscar was by himself. So my money is that no one knows what Oscar’s really going through.
No one else knows of his mental struggle or pain.
Tumblr media
And why I find this interesting is because it kind of parallels Ruby’s whole detachment period from the others in the Ever After before she went to the Tree and what happened at the Mad Tea Party.
Not saying Oscar will share a similar experience as Ruby. I’m just saying, he’s clearly removed himself from the others and acting alone.
As Ren pointed out, he’s not himself. He’s there but…not there at the same time.
This brings me back to my point. Personally, I do want Oscar pulling himself from the team to hide the fact that he’s going through the Merge to be proven canon.
And I want it to be canon so that the first person to pick up that something is clearly off about Oscar’s behaviour to be Ruby.
Maybe Ruby realizes that Oscar is acting weird and when she brings it up, Ren is probably definitely the first person to reveal that he’s been sensing something off for a while but after everything that’s happened, similar to how he’s currently giving Nora space to work things out on her own, Ren has been doing the same with Oscar.
Tumblr media
He’s been giving the little prince space when if anyone were to look closely at Ren’s expressions, they could probably see his frustration in being the one to know fully well that his friends aren’t entirely ok and despite wanting to help, he still feels helpless because Ren can’t force his friends to accept his help; no matter how much he offers, y’know what I mean?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like some of RWBYJ’s struggles in the After Ever and how they rose to triumph over them could be mirrored in what NOR is going through now back in Vacuo.
Overall, the point I’m trying to make here is that I just want a moment where Oscar is having another merger episode and he tries to go through it alone, believing that he has to, only to get the reassurance and support he needs from his friends.
I saw someone compare Oscar’s merger episodes to Penny’s battle with Watts’ virus back in V8.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while I didn’t enjoy the forced heavy focus on Penny during that season, I did sort of like how it culminated in everyone coming together to show their support of Penny and reminding her that she is a part of their team.
Tumblr media
That is a type of a moment I want for Oscar. Because unlike Penny, feeling like a part of the team as himself and not just a placeholder for Oz is something Oscar desires.
I want Oscar to push his friends away, believing that he needed to go through this Merge on his own, only to be reminded by his friends in the end that they have his back no matter what.
That he is still a part of their team. That he is still Oscar to them no matter who he becomes in the Merge.
I want a scene where Oscar loses it, possibly even abusing his magic to force walls between himself and his friends only for those said friends to break down those walls and be there for him.
(Maybe even have a moment where Oscar loses control of his magic while trying to fight the Merge and it ends up looking like a moment where everyone thinks it's another Grimm attack when it's actually Oscar whose feelings of the merge have manifested into some kind of monstrous form that Oscar practically cocooned himself inside of).
Y’know that moment in Steven Universe Future where Steven loses control and all of his friends---all the major people he has helped throughout the seasons---come together to help him for once.
Tumblr media
I want a moment where the whole team---Ruby, Nora, Ren, Jaune, Blake, Yang, Weiss and Emerald---all of Oscar’s people are there at his side showing him full support as he goes through the Merge; ensuring him that he doesn’t have to be scared of the Merge anymore because no matter who he becomes in the Merge, he will always be Oscar to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s not Ozpin. He’s not Ozma. He’s sure as hell ain’t Salem’s Ozma. He’s Oscar. Their Oscar
The small, cute farm boy from Mistral who showed up on their doorstep one random night in Mistral and has now cemented himself as one of the most important members of their little team that they will not stand to lose; not even to himself.
I want Oscar to be reminded by his friends that he will be cherished and supported no matter who he becomes in Merge.
Even if Oscar forgot his “old self” due to the Merge, they---his friends, will be there to remind him of who he was because they, as his friends, will never forgot Oscar because to them, he never left.
I just want a moment where everybody group hugs Oscar while he cries about SIX SEASONS worth of repressed tears after all the sh** he's been put through plot-wise. I want it dagnabbit!
Who knows? Maybe Oscar has another painful merger episode and it’s the worse one he’s had since it started and the love and support of his friends surrounding him is what helps to ease him out of it and back to his old farm boy Oscar self.
Just give me one scene like that. That’s all I want.
Don’t know if it will ever come to fruition given the current state of RT and the fate of RWBY as a whole. But hey, still wanted to get that off of my chest.

On the subject of the CRWBY Writers possibly showing more of Oscar's past in V10 as he's going through the Merge:
Honestly, at this point, m'fam, it's either now or never.
Now, as in during the events of V10, is the perfect time to give the audience more insight into Oscar's past and who he is. It is practically mandatory at this point that they show it as he is going into a storyline where he's being forced to lose that part of himself. They just have to do it!
Just as how V8 could pretty much be pretty much summed up as another Cinder-centric season similar to V4-V5, V10 could potentially be more Oscar-focused as he's going through the Merge. Like I said, it's the right time for them to do it.
And while I'm unsure of them telling Ozpin's story, maybe that too can be done and do something similar to what they did with Ren and Nora's backstory back in V4.
We got Ren and Nora's whole history in Kunoyuri in an episode that jumped back and forth between the past and the present.
Perhaps Oscar could have a potential episode in V10 where he's having another Merge episode and, as I theorized, he loses control of his magic while a) fighting the Merge again and b) running away/hiding from his friends so that they would've have to see him suffer through it.
So it's an episode that ping pongs between the present day where Oscar's friends are trying to get through to him while he's suffering through yet another painful Merger episode and the past which reveals more of Oscar's backstory leading up to the moment he met Oz and possibly showing other Oscar-centric moments that we, as the audience, never got to see like what happened with Oscar in Argus after his fall out with Jaune (remember we never got to see his side of things and it's something that still bothers me to this day)
Perhaps Ozpin's past is mixed in with it as well as you mentioned and the location of the final relic is actually revealed in Ozpin's memories in a flashback where he entrusted the location to someone. Maybe that person was Summer Rose. Since V9 revealed there is more to Summer Rose's story and that Raven actually knows more about that; perhaps Summer Rose's disappearance is connected to the final Relic or at least the final vault?
I dunno.
Overall, I definitely do like the idea of a potential episode of V10 fully dedicated to sharing bits of both Oscar's past as well as Ozpin's; specifically during his time as headmaster of Beacon when Team STRQ were still students since it could potentially reveal more on where Oz hid the location of the Vault of the Fall Maiden and the Relic of Choice. And if that episode is then followed up by an episode that shows the hero team---all of Oscar's friends actually helping him through an episode of the Merge then even better.
I think that would be pretty amazing. Hope that helps answer your questions m'fam. Let me know.

I love that it was confirmed that Oz was also fighting the merge just as hard as Oscar is, it really makes me happy that he cares and has cared about Oscar to the point where he is fighting a merge he knows he cant/has no chance of stopping, yet he’s still doing it, all for Oscar’s sake.
Same anon-chan, same. I mean it definitely makes sense that Oz would be fighting the Merge just as much as Oscar because he fully knows that the Merge is something that Oscar doesn’t want.
As you put perfectly, I also love the detail of Oz doing this all for Oscar’s sake since he genuinely does care about what Oscar wants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is for this reason why I’m kind of curious what the Merge was like during Ozpin’s experience.
Tumblr media
Was Oz also apprehensive of merging with his predecessor and ultimately gave up and accepted his fate? Or did Oz and his predecessor come to a sense of understanding and their merge wasn’t as daunting as Oscar’s since Ozpin had learnt to perfectly coexist with his predecessor and had made peace with the two becoming a part of one another.
Tumblr media
If we do get V10, it would be great to have a moment of Oscar possibly seeing the memories of previous Wizards in the Ozma Cycle and witnessing their experiences with the Merge and how they all handled it when their time came. Perhaps this could be a learning moment for him since I still would like to hold onto the possibility that the Merge may not be as bad as Oscar thinks it will be.
Tumblr media
Back in V5, Oz simply described the merging experience as “his soul being paired with another and he is changed, but his memories stay with him”.
It is for this reason why I don’t think the Merge may be so bad and that Oscar will still get to retain his own identity even after becoming one with Oz.
But that’s how I’m interpreting it. Then again, the CRWBY Writers have been known to abandon previously established ideas in the RWBY narrative so who really knows what Oscar’s fate will be in the end. For what it’s worth, I hope it’s something positive at least.

So squiggles....we saw our boy. But at what cost?
Ahahaaaa not only that Key m’boi. Not only did we get our BOI at a cost but we also got what is the closest thing to a “Rosegarden crumb” outta RWBY V9 in this episode at a cost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miles and Kiersi who co-wrote this episode can both kiss my chocolate-coated ass for this scene!
How dare you?!
I mean, Miles did hint once upon a time that Ruby’s bond with Oscar is still being defined.
The fact that this is the second time that Neo has used Oscar’s form to break Ruby is meaningful.
I find it most curious that Neo knows of Oscar’s connection to Ruby. She must’ve seen their little moment at Schnee Manor back in V7 and put 2+2 together.
Jokes aside, this moment, as dark as it was meant something in the grand scheme of things.
Of all the people that Neo could’ve shown Ruby causing the death of, I find it interesting that was Oscar’s.
She could’ve shown her Weiss or Blake or Yang or even Jaune. Heck she could’ve even shown her Penny.
But the fact that it was Oscar means something.
I mean yeah sure, it makes sense for it to be Oscar since Oz was there before and Oscar is Oz’s successor.
But the fact that Neo knows that Oscar is important enough to Ruby to use his form in such a manner to break her. That’s what got me about that scene.
And what’s more interesting that this isn’t the first time Neo used a hurt Oscar to get to Ruby. Remember she used her tortured and battered form while they were fighting in the Void before ended up in the Ever After.
Tumblr media
The point I’m trying to make is that this shows that Ruby values Oscar’s life. It highlights why she’s always been so protective of him in past seasons.
Oscar is another special person that Ruby has come to cherish. Someone who means a lot to her that she doesn’t want to lose.
Ruby doesn’t want to fail Oscar.
Oscar means something to Ruby and I feel like once the group returns to Remnant, the way Ruby looks at Oscar following her experience in the Ever After will be much different than before.
Not saying this will mean they’ll become lovers, making Rosegarden canon or anything like that.
I’m just saying, the dynamic between Ruby and Oscar could potentially change after this volume as a result of what Neo did to Ruby in the Ever After.
And let's not forget, we don't know what's going on in the Remnant right now. We don't know how much time has passed in Remnant while RWBYJ have been stuck in the Ever After.
We don't know how much time has passed between Oscar and the others learning that their allies probably died on the other side of the Portal.
Let me put something into perspective:
In the Ever After, Ruby saw Oscar die by her hands.
What if...back on Remnant, after Winter informs everyone of what happened in the Portal, Oscar blames himself for essentially causing Ruby's "death" since technically he was the one with the knowledge of the Staff and should've known better.
What if...Oscar ends up taking responsibility for all that happened to RWBYJ in the Portal and his feelings for Ruby will change as result of thinking he had lost her forever?
So it's a case where both Ruby and Oscar realize how much they mean to each other by believing for a period that had killed the other? If that makes sense?
Who knows? I could be very much wrong about this hunch. But that’s how I see it.

So miles did another cameo video about a week ago someone asked him what it would have been like if Oscar had gone to the ever after and Miles confirmed that if Oscar had been there with Ruby she wouldn't have gone through the conflict and trauma she was going through and volume nine if he had been there cuz Oscar would have been the one to notice it instantly unlike the others who didn't notice it till after she snapped at them
You can even see hints of it in the episode were they meet John again and they're at his house where Ruby sitting at the table and across from Ruby is an empty chair while Ruby sits there and look at Yang and Blake happily celebrating their new relationship Ruby sits there if so she's missing someone and that someone is Oscar I think
Hello anon-chan! Pardon the late answer to your inbox.
Do you mind linking me to this specific cameo you mentioned pretty please? Because I would honestly loved to listen to it.
Funnily enough, you’re the second person to bring up the theory that the empty seat across from Ruby at Jaune’s home in the Ever After during the scene before Jaune returns Crescent Rose to Ruby could’ve easily been filled by Oscar.
Tumblr media
It makes perfect sense that Oscar would’ve been the one to notice Ruby’s depression if he were there since he has been shown to be weary of that in previous seasons such as the infamous dojo scene. Oscar noticing Ruby’s change in demenour is what initially prompted him to push her to admit her true feelings about everything that happened during the Fall of Beacon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention that when Ruby was shown to be overwhelmed at the Cotta-Arc during the moment when Jaune exploded after JNR learned the truth about Oz and Salem, Oscar was the one to take notice of this and even did his best to help quell the situation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oscar has always been observant of Ruby’s feelings especially when she is at her lowest. It’s one of the reasons why I love their dynamic so much. Ruby has always been protective of Oscar since the moment he joined the team, looking out for him in her own way just as much as he looked out for her.
Oscar should’ve been there for Ruby in the Ever After just as how Ruby should’ve been the one to lead the charge to save him from Monstra instead of Jaune back in V8.
I absolutely hated the fact that Ruby was omitted from Oscar’s side of the story back then and this is one of the reasons why I didn’t enjoy that season.
The CRWBY showrunners spent the last few seasons continuously building up this shared sense of caring and protectiveness as the basis of the Rosegarden friendship and yet…there was no payoff?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They showed prior moments of Ruby protecting Oscar yet…she was completely absent during his most dire time of need---being a prisoner of Salem and brutally tortured by her and Hazel for hours. Ruby was not allowed to protect Oscar from that.
Tumblr media
They showed prior moments of Oscar being a voice of wisdom to encourage Ruby to open up and be honest with herself and those around her yet…he was absent during her darkest emotional moment yet---her literal breaking point where she committed the Ever After equivalent of suicide.
Tumblr media
You see the pattern?
Neither Ruby nor Oscar were present during each other’s worse moments.
They weren’t allowed to because the writers knew, canonically, these two would be each other’s true savior---their beacon in the darkness to get more metaphorical.
Because they needed the story to go a different way to get the ending that we actually got in V8 and V9, that’s how it had to go.
If Oscar has gone to the Ever After then Ruby would’ve never had her whole arc which…needed to happen. Although, some might argue that the whole point of Ruby’s journey in the Ever After was ultimately made pointless by her going from “no longer wanting to be Ruby Rose anymore” to “being Ruby Rose just as I am is enough. I’m Ruby-nough! I don’t need to change at all. I’m perfect just the way I am even with the flaws that I still possess that led me down this path in the first place”.
Sarcasm aside, I don’t dislike the fact that Ruby chose to be herself in the end. Being yourself and having yourself be enough is a good message. I just wished the showrunners had allowed this concept to cook more. While I’m aware they were pressed for time given the fact that no V10 was greenlit, nevertheless, I would’ve rather a twist where only Weiss, Blake, Yang and Jaune were able to return home while Ruby remained in the Ever After to complete her transformation.
We spent nearly an entire season building up to Ruby’s breakdown. It took 8 out of 10 episodes to have Ruby fall apart only to have her have her big revelation in the last episode. That makes the whole thing seem almost flat so I don't blame some fans for being disappointed with the conclusion to Ruby's Ever After story being concluded that way.
I dunno about you anon-chan but this just makes me disappointed that Oscar wasn’t present for the Ever After Arc because all cues prior to V9 hinted that he could’ve easily been added to this season and worked.
Oscar was the one who first introduced the audience to the fairytale of the Girl Who Fell Through the World.
Not to mention the whole theme of the Ever After being about embracing change---Oscar SHOULD’VE gone to the Ever After. Part of Oscar’s journey is about him coming to terms with the Merge with him either losing himself completely or becoming a new person entirely.
Seeing Oscar going through his own arc while trying to help Ruby with hers could've been great to see. But alas, that's not what we got.
I will give the showrunners this though---if Oscar had gone to the Ever After then we probably may not have gotten the clue that Ruby cares deeply for him.
Tumblr media
It is very evident after V9 that Oscar's life is precious to Ruby. Shipping and romantic implications asides, you can't deny the fact that Oscar's wellbeing is important to Ruby.
Much like characters such as Penny and Pyrrha, Oscar is someone who Ruby doesn't want to lose.
Better yet, he is someone precious to Ruby that she doesn't wish to lose as a result of her failure.
Tumblr media
Take a look at the deaths of Pyrhha and Penny. What do those deaths have in common?
Ruby failing to stop it from happening in the first place.
Ruby was present for Penny's first death but arrived too late to stop it from happening.
Tumblr media
Ruby was present for Pyrhha's death but arrived too late to stop it from happening.
Tumblr media
Ruby was present again for Penny's final death but got tossed into the Ever After before she could do anything to help stop it from happening.
Once again, Penny died and Ruby failed to stop it from happening. This is why the words of her illusion cut Ruby deeply during the Mad Tea Party fight.
Tumblr media
"...Just like you were too late to save me at the Vytal Festival. I died in Atlas too, didn't I? Could you imagine what that's like? To be completely and utterly failed time and again by someone who meant the world to you..."
Similar to Penny, Ruby is someone who Oscar has been shown to care deeply for and Ruby, in turn, cares a lot for him. The evidence of that has been shown sprinkled throughout the seasons. There is no denying that these two smaller, more honest souls care very much for each other.
Tumblr media
While there has yet to be any payoff to the development in their relationship as yet, one thing's for certain is that Oscar is a person of importance to Ruby.
He is someone she doesn't want to lose. He is someone she doesn't want to fail.
He is someone she can't stand to watch die because of her own inability to protect him.
Not again after she's failed others like him in the past.
Tumblr media
Overall, I guess the point I'm trying to make here is, while it would've been great to see Oscar in the Ever After with Ruby (since he definitely would've prevented her breakdown), at the same time, the showrunners did still found a way to use his presence as part of the narrative to signify something about his connection to Ruby.
Oscar needed to be absent in order to Ruby to have her arc yet ironically, he was the reason for Ruby's breakdown in the first place. While Little's death was the final straw that drove Ruby over the edge, before that moment, it was actually the imagery of Oscar's death caused by HER HANDS that drove Ruby to her final breaking point.
While it would've been nice to see Oscar there with Ruby, in a way, he was still there with her---being used by Neo to indicate to the audience that Oscar is a person of dear importance to Ruby.
Moving forward, I expect the events of V9 to have some kind of impact on Ruby's overall relationship with Oscar. I want to believe the events of the Ever After would make Ruby more overprotective of Oscar; possibly hinting at much deeper feelings. That's how I see it.

I'm not sure if you heard the news yet but rooster teeth is getting shut down by Warner Bros and Warner Bros is trying to sell RWBY off to another company at the moment
I hope that the people working at rooster teeth are able to get jobs or have jobs that they can help tie them over till they find new work for a while
And maybe if we're lucky when it comes to RWBY some company will maybe pick them up this year and will possibly get volume 10 by the end of next year or the year after that we'll just have to wait and see I'm not sure if they're still doing RWBY beyond that they were planning to do to cover some stuff that was happening with long and I but I hope the future for this franchise gets better and that this isn't the end
Hi there anon-chan. Yes, I have heard the news about RT shutting down. Heard it as soon as it came out yesterday. I just don’t have much to comment on the matter since I’m still pretty much processing it.
I mean, I’ve been hearing certain-certain Youtubers making bold statements about the end of RT for quite some time now; given all of its recent scandals. But even then, I still sorta wished to hold out on the belief that what they were saying wasn’t entirely true.
I mean, I know RT has definitely been under fire for a while but that was mainly due to the actions of some of the folks that were working in the company. And even then, I was of the opinion, that all the problematic people bringing the company down would just be removed, leaving RT itself to basically rebuild its reputation and get back in the good spirits of both its fans and potential investors; y’know what I mean?
Bottomline, I didn’t want to believe the possibility of RT shutting down since I thought they would’ve been able to make  a comeback somehow. At least when it comes to RWBY.
I’ll be frank with you m’fam. Outside of RWBY (and maybe Red Vs. Blue and Camp Camp; even though I haven’t caught up on those series since their earlier seasons), I have no other personal investment in RT.
I mainly followed RT for RWBY and the members of the CRWBY who worked on it. And even now, in light of the news of its upcoming shut down, I’m more concerned for what the future of RWBY will be beyond RT.
In respect to the CRWBY, I’m genuinely not that worried for them finding work since they’re all very talented creatives who are very, very good in their craft. So I definitely have high hopes for them scoring new work after RT. No doubts about that.
I have heard about WB trying to sell RWBY though; and this is where my main concern lies. I am worried about who RWBY will be sold to next or whether anyone will pick up the IP at all. I know some FNDM members like to hype up RWBY as this big deal series. However, the reality is, outside of the FNDM, RWBY honestly isn’t as well-known as some folks may think. Especially when you consider the fact that all the negatives of RWBY are talked about just as much; maybe even more so than the positives of it.
Tumblr media
In the realm of potential buyers for RWBY, I don’t have high hopes for this because, isn’t this not what happened to  GenLock? Who do we blame for the fall of that IP? RT or WB? Didn’t they not “sell” GenLock over to HBO and they ended up butchering the hell out of its second season?
Either way, I don’t want the same to happen to RWBY. It’s already butchered enough by the way RT and its showrunners have been handling it since V3.
My one saving grace is a tweet from Dillon Goo. Apparently, he’s an animator who formerly worked on RWBY back in the days of Monty. Yesterday on Twitter, he expressed interest in purchasing the rights to RWBY to continue the series along with his team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t know how serious he is about this but I have seen some of his work and it’s actually quite good. I would rather RWBY go to the hands of someone who worked on the show and seems  genuinely passionate about continuing the series and its story as opposed to it going to some mega-money corporate conglomerate who are only interested in making money off the franchise and don’t really give a rat’s ass about its story or appealing to its fanbase.
As a long time fan of RWBY, all I want is for the series to be given to someone who actually gives a shit about RWBY.
Not just as a franchise name but as a story with characters and a world they genuinely enjoyed and wished to continue and expand upon out of a genuine love for it.
Whether that’s continuing from where the original CRWBY Writers left off or rebooting the story from the ground up, I just want RWBY to be handled by creatives who care about it and want to tell a good story with it.
No senseless pandering that serve nothing for the story or appeasing the “woke crowd” or whatever!
Just telling a genuinely GOOD and CONSISTENT story with these characters and the world they live in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I rather RWBY be handed over to a fan whose got the money, time and most importantly, the drive to keep the story going rather than another who just wants to milk it for its “brand”.
Ironically, this is what RT has sadly been doing with RWBY for the past couple of years. Since the dawn of its existence, RWBY has spawned books, comics, manga, videogames (console as well as mobile), its own movie (albeit it’s a crossover) and even its own Japanese anime adapation. All these different novelties that were supposed to help expand the world of Remnant and look how far it got it?
Pretty much nowhere because we got all of this expanded material for RWBY and we’re still nowhere close to finishing the main core story from the OG 3D animated series.
Speaking of, regarding the fate of RWBY Beyond, I’m not sure myself anon-chan. I was of the naive notion that since RWBY returning to RT and the debut of RWBY Beyond were announced prior to the news of RT’s shutdown that the company would still move forward with this move and it would mark the official send off for not only RWBY but the company that made it as well. That’s what I was hoping for and what I’m still hoping for since I don’t recall their being an official date for RT’s shut down.
We know the company is dead, we just don’t know the date of the funeral, basically. So until that time comes, I’m gonna innocently hope we still get to see RWBY Beyond before RT shuts down.
I can live with RT shutting down and even RWBY ending if RWBY Beyond is treated as the official final chapter to the story. But that’s just me.

Imagined scenario while at work: Oscar when seeing Ruby return, runs up and hugs her tightly. He notices she's different and is hypersensitive to her emotions. WBY+J watching this realize how Intune Oscar is with Ruby and her emotions and feel all the more guilty for not noticing them more. The fact that Oscar can notice, understand and act towards her feelings even more than Yang feeds this in them all, and even moreso that Ruby will show them to Oscar and be honest with him.
Hiya Miki-chan! Thanks for the inbox as always. I hope you can pardon the very, very late response. I needed a bit of time with this one because the instant I read the scenario, my head just went into overdrive with just how much I could and wanted to say about it.
What I’ve written here is days of me attempting to accumulate my many, many thoughts on this subject matter and for what it’s worth, I hope actually managed to response accordingly to it. Y’know the usual spiel with yours truly XD
Okay, so without further delay, here’s what I gotta say:
First off, love the scenario. Your description of the moment is pretty much how I would envision the Rosegarden reunion following Ruby’s return would go, more or less.
To me, a big deal and a huge indicator of the Rosegarden dynamic potentially shifting into a romance would be if their respective ways of communicating compassion for one another were to suddenly reversed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite Ruby seeming to have resolved her insecurities about herself through the aid of the Blacksmith, I’d like to think that the memories of what triggered her to go to the tree in the first place would still be quite fresh on her mind.
Tumblr media
Therefore Ruby becoming anxious around reuniting with Oscar is fitting. The last time Ruby saw Oscar was him being cut down by her own weapon. While it may have been an illusion, the fact that the sight of such an apparition was enough to contribute to her breakdown is meaningful.
I’d like to think that upon returning to Remnant and reuniting with Oscar---the real Oscar---Ruby would suddenly be quite skittish around him. As a matter of fact, I kind of had this idea that Ruby’s new attitude towards Oscar would ping-pong between her being distant and avoidant of him while in Vacuo (since the memory of the illusion’s murder would still haunt her and could possibly be triggered by any contact they make with each other) to suddenly being very overprotective of him; more so than she's ever been in the past.
Tumblr media
Oscar has always been cautious type. As outspoken as Oscar is, throughout the series we have seen him be presented as someone who isn’t afraid to be vocal when it comes to expressing his honest feelings or opinion of something, sometimes to very blunt degrees.
Tumblr media
Oscar is deliberate when communicating. But at the same time, he has also been shown to be careful. Careful in what he says; always being sure to take a few seconds to ponder his approach before speaking up.
Tumblr media
When it comes to the Rosegarden friendship dynamic, Ruby has always been the one to initiate any sort of physical contact between herself and Oscar whether it be holding hands or just lightly touching his shoulder in comfort. Oscar, on the other hand, as I’ve noticed, mostly reaches out to Ruby with his words. Talking to her has always been his main way of communicating his feelings to her. And whenever Oscar speaks, specifically to Ruby, you can bet assure that his words are always going to come from a place of honesty and kindness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because, Oscar has mostly always been honest with Ruby even in moments when she challenges him on maintaining that (as evidenced during the events of V6 following Ozpin’s Intervention and Ruby’s Deceit towards General Ironwood during V7).
If Ruby isn’t being 100% honest with Oscar, their peers or even herself, Oscar will see right through that deceit and will even challenge her on it. That’s something I’ve always deeply appreciated about Oscar’s character when it came to his budding relationship with Ruby. He was always one to take notice of her moments of lying to herself/masking her insecurities with bravado for the sake of maintaining the mask of their “righteous team leader”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Oscar certainly trusts Ruby and is willing to give her the space that she needs to figure things out on her own. In the event that things become too much, he will confront her. Challenge her even.
Ruby has always been a voice of encouragement and support for her team. It’s one of the most endearing aspects of her character which, in my opinion, made her a fitting leader and an all round good friend in general.
All the more reason why it truly sucked that when she needed that kind of emotional support and understanding in return, everyone seemed to just overlook her. And what’s even more ironic is that for those of us who have been paying more attention to the dynamics within our hero group, this was to be expected.
Tumblr media
As sad as it will be to admit, Ruby’s teammates overlooking and dismissing her clear depression/frustration is…not new.
And what’s also not new is Ruby not being as open with her team about how she truly feels. I don’t know if we would ever get a moment of Yang, Weiss and/or Blake making the realization that Ruby is more open with Oscar than any of them. And it’s not even so much that Ruby is more open with Oscar because she has a stronger connection to him either.  To me, it’s more so of the fact that Oscar isn’t always complacent to blindly follow everything Ruby says or does or allow certain things he notices off about her slide.
Tumblr media
This is something that Oscar shares with Yang. Both care about Ruby and are willing to trust her but at the same time, aren’t afraid to confront her on her choice of actions.
To me, the perfect example of this behaviour is V7 after the whole lying to Ironwood ordeal.
The only two people shown to actively challenge Ruby’s stance to deceive the General and shared their concerns with her were Yang and Oscar.  Heck, Yang even prompted Ruby on what Oscar thought about the whole thing.
This is what made the writers’ decision to have Yang appear to take Blake’s side following Ruby’s outburst in V9 disappointing to me.
While I understand it may have been Yang’s way of redirecting Ruby’s anger away from Blake and onto her instead, it still bugs me til today that all Yang did for Ruby in that moment is appear to defend Blake alone.
Where was her sympathy and understanding for her little sister like before?
Tumblr media
We have seen Yang comfort Ruby in moments of emotional breakdown in prior seasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heck we even saw Yang provide comfort for Ruby at the start of V9 after she fainted from hearing the news about Penny's death.
Tumblr media
So why is it that in this particular moment did Yang not offer the same olive branch she’s always given Ruby before as the older sister?
Tumblr media
I could’ve accepted Yang suggesting for her and Ruby go off somewhere away from the rest of the group so that they can talk things out privately and having Ruby stubbornly refuse her sister’s attempt at helping her.
I would’ve rather had a scene like that as opposed to the a single, warning “Hey!” while shielding Blake and that be it.
I know other fans have defended this scene but I’m sorry, this squiggle meister will always dislike it. Say what you will, but I will always find that scene disheartening to look at because it just gave off the vibe that in one of Ruby’s lowest moments (the calm before the actual storm at the Mad Tea party), she had no one to turn to.
No one to understand her. No one to at least TRY to understand her.
Tumblr media
Everyone she’s legit helped with their problems and offered emotional support to in the past just turned their backs on her. Even her own big sister seemed more concerned with her new girlfriend’s feelings than hers and she’s her family!
Say what you will but…as an older sister as well as a team mate and supposed friend, Yang failed Ruby in that moment.
They all did; admittedly with Jaune being the worse offender, making Ruby's clear frustration all about him and his problems.
I like Jaune but this moment was one of his worst for me; right behind the time he took out his frustration for Ozpin on poor Oscar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why the concept of Oscar being the one to help Ruby if he had gone to the Ever After makes sense and why it also makes sense why the showrunners sought not to include him in this particular arc. Yang standing by while her own sister fell apart was enough of a stretch.
If Oscar Pine had gone to the Ever After, there is no way he would’ve ignored Ruby’s growing depression.
If Oscar had gone to the Ever After, my prediction would be that the two would’ve had a similar moment to what happened canonically between Ruby and Jaune--- meaning that our two smaller, more honest souls probably would’ve gotten into a very heated fight for the first time.
We've seen Ruby and Oscar support each other. We've seen them protect each other. We've even seen them disagree with one another only to eventually stand in solidarity side by side, on the same page. However, we have yet to see these two actually argue with each other which is what I think Oscar's presence in the Ever After would've led to.
Only in that instance, Oscar would’ve succeeded where Jaune (and by extension the rest of Team RWBY) didn’t. Instead of deflecting or making the entire moment about himself, my assumption is that, similar to their moment in the dojo scene from V5, Oscar would’ve gotten Ruby to confess what was truly bothering her.
Tumblr media
Oscar would’ve challenged Ruby to the point of breaking through her emotional walls in order to get to the real root of her problem; just as he did back in Mistral.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is no doubt in my mind that Oscar would’ve been the one to bring out Ruby’s deepest fears and insecurities about herself and get her to openly admit that to him, even if it was at the expense of making himself somewhat of an adversary in her eyes.
Similar to Jaune, Oscar would’ve definitely called Ruby out on her shit; just like he did in the dojo scene.
Tumblr media
Hoooooooooowevvvvver, unlike Jaune, who deviated and made Ruby’s obvious cry for help all about himself and his problems, Oscar would’ve remained true to Ruby and reminded her with sincerest affirmation of how much he cared deeply for her and since he visibly took notice of her struggles in the Ever After, Oscar would instinctively wish to do everything in his power to help Ruby.
Just as he’s always done during past interactions. And just as he promised he would do back in Argus during V6 bringing that moment from Chapter 9 full circle.
Tumblr media
“...I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be me but, I did some thinking and I do know that I want to do everything I can to help with whatever time I have left…”
If Oscar was in the Ever After, he would’ve asked Ruby the two most important questions that needed to be asked.
“What’s really going on with you?” and “What can I do to help you?”

Do you think ozpin and qrow could some how be friends again/ qrow trust ozpin again
Hello there anon-chan! Thank you for the inbox!
In all honesty m’fam, this was a subject matter I was hoping the series would’ve covered after V6. After that season, I was hoping that part of Qrow’s development moving forward would’ve had him reconsidering his entire relationship with Ozpin; touching base on things such as how they first met and really giving the audience a further deep dive in their history together. This would then ultimately leed up to Qrow realizing that he was wrong for how he treated Oz after the reveal, learning to forgive him again and the two would essentially reboot their friendship with deeper feelings of trust and understanding.
Judging from the events of V6, a lot of Qrow’s feelings about himself were synonymous with his ties with Oz. There was no doubt that Oz was someone Qrow revered and thought of highly.
Tumblr media
It’s as he told him back during that season. No one else in his life---not his clan, not even his own sister---ever believed in him due to his misfortune semblance. According to Qrow, he was cursed. But it was Oz who made him gain some confidence in his own self worth by making him believe in the good he could accomplish even with the type of semblance he had.
Words alone are not enough to surmise my disappointment in the fact that right after the writers teased the history and meaningful dynamic that Qrow and Oz shared together, they just dropped it after V6. Instead of making Qrow focus on his bond with Oz, they instead awkwardly did everything they could to have Qrow not discuss Oz.
Instead they had Qrow pining over his relationship with Clover for two seasons. Clover---a character he barely knew and just happened to develop a small kindred comradery for like a couple of months versus Ozpin who he has known FOR YEARS. Probably since he was even a student at Beacon and had remained loyal to well into middle age. Like seriously?
Don't get me wrong, I liked Clover as a character. However I honestly hated how he was the focus
Tumblr media
Qrow wasn’t even allowed to focus on his friendship with Winter since even their rivalry dating back to the events of V3 was pushed aside in favour of Clover who only first appeared in V7.
Tumblr media
Don’t get me wrong. I actually thought Clover was a decent character. However I really didn’t like how he suddenly became a person of massive importance to Qrow when the two barely knew each other.
If Clover shared the same past with Qrow or the two were actually good friends/rivals who knew each other dating way back to their academy days then I can get behind why Qrow cared that much about him after his death.
Tumblr media
But no. There were other characters that Qrow shared deeper bonds than Clover, like Oz, and yet, all Qrow focused on between V7 to V8 was this one dude. I will never understand why the Writers chose this route to go for Qrow. It just felt so off and misplaced; at least to me.
Shout-out to my fellow Snowbird shippers since we too were robbed of any potential further development between Qrow and Winter since that it seems their dynamic was replaced in favour of one brewing with Robyn Hill.
Tumblr media
So, in a nutshell anon-chan, I do think Qrow can trust Oz again and rekindle their friendship. However, it’s up to the CRWBY Writers to implement that into the story canon. Thus far, they haven’t done a good job on having Qrow focus on his ties to Oz. But who knows? Perhaps we’ll get something in that epilogue series that was recently announced by RT. RWBY Beyond.
Hopefully that series will drop some crumbs on the aftermath of Qrow and Oz’s relationship, finally giving closure to of us who were wondering about it.

Giiirrrrllllll, Miles just confirmed, on cameo, that Oscar's allusion is The Little Prince and I'm like 🥹😆😫🤩🥰. I mean, not that we didn't already see the signs but still - that confirmation is pure serotonin!
Hey there Heart! Yeeeep, I saw the whole clip over on my Twitter cause the Rosegardeners over there were going wild over this yesterday.
Y’know, it’s funny. Speaking for myself here, I’ve been talking about Oscar alluding to the Little Prince since as early as…what? V6? V5 maybe. I’ve spent YEARS sharing so many thoughts, comments and Pinehead headcanons on this very subject and now that it’s been confirmed by Miles, I feel….weird.
Not like in a bad way. Just…I don’t know what to do with this information (yet). It just feels so surreal. Like it’s too good to be true even though it came straight from the horse’s mouth.
All those theories and we were right!
All those folks telling us we were wrong when we were right!
And since Oscar is indeed the little prince of Remnant then you cannot convince me otherwise that Ruby ain’t the rose in his story. His true rose. There’s no denying it now.
Not unless there will be another young rose-themed female character introduced in Vacuo to play the role of the “other rose” to be a rival to Ruby to force Oscar to question his devotion (and love) to her.
A desert rose, as I'll dub her.
Tumblr media
To me, I like the concept of the other rose in Oscar’s story to be the final Maiden---the Summer Maiden---making them a magical being similar to Oscar. And technically the maidens are the envoys of Ozma’s magic so that would’ve been an interesting dynamic to explore. Having Oscar share a connection to a maiden, even if will be temporary in the end.
Anyways, that’s a thought and theory for another time.
Obviously I would love to talk more about it, like I do. However, for now, I’m still just taking it in.
Oscar, the little (golden) prince confirmed!

Hi Squiggles! Long time no talk/discuss. The main reason why Oscar barely spoke in the movie was because it was during the time Aaron had to be on vocal rest while it was in production.
He may have a slightly bigger role in the second part, but since they were working in both parts at the same time during his vocal rest it probably won’t be by much.
Hey Cora. Yep, it has been a while. Hope you've been good.
Not quite sure where you heard this news about Aaron but thanks for sharing it with me. Makes sense that Oscar didn't say much during the first part of the movie. Regarding the second part, it would be admittedly bummy if Oscar is featured in Part 2 and still doesn't say anything.
Tumblr media
But what can we do. For now, I'm just hoping we do get to see more of him in Part 2 whenever it debuts.

With the recent episode having been released many shippers are saying this was the proof that Nuts and Dolts was canonized. Via through Ruby’s actions towards Penny’s sword and her speech about her. What are your thoughts on it?
Personally I never saw their relationship as romantic. Their interactions to me have always been things that friends just do. Now if they acted like Blake and Yang I would be more convinced but I just don’t see the romance shippers claim is there with them.
But then again I am aroace so romance is lost on me sometimes, maybe I just don’t understand that aspect but I always valued their friendship more.
Hello there anon-chan.
Speaking for myself here--- while I’ve been fond of the close dynamic between Ruby and Penny in the past, I too share in your opinions of never once perceiving their relationship to be anything more than simply platonic.
Tumblr media
Similar to Whiterose, I’ve never one gotten romantic vibes from neither Penny nor Ruby. That’s just never been the nature of their relationship as portrayed in the show.
Tumblr media
Penny and Ruby are friends. Heck, I’ll even go as far as to say that Penny was more of a best friend to Ruby than Weiss who was supposed to fit that role.
There is no doubt that Ruby cared deeply about Penny. Ruby was literally the first friend that Penny ever made. Even Penny’s theme that was featured for the first time at the end of V8 was titled “Friend” and was clearly about her friendship with Ruby.
Tumblr media
Ruby and Penny are friends and always will be.
Ruby’s expression of her from today’s episode doesn’t change that; at least in my opinion. Penny was someone important to Ruby. Not as a lover or even a crush. Just a very dear friend she clearly loved and has now lost.
Tumblr media
And the reason why Penny’s death is deeply affecting Ruby right now in the story is because, for the second time, Penny has been killed while Ruby was far away completely powerless to prevent it from happening.
Tumblr media
We already saw how much Penny’s death deeply impacted Ruby the first time based off of what she told Oscar back in V5 and how the imagery of Penny’s murder at the Vytal Festival acted as a mental block to Ruby using her silver eyes on the Leviathan back in V6.
Tumblr media
Now it’s happened all over again and unlike the last time, Penny is gone for good this time.
Ruby failed to protect her friend AGAIN! So it’s no surprise that it would eat at her both emotionally and psychologically.
But like with everything else that has happened, Ruby will attempt to bottle her emotions up for the sake of not giving into her unhappiness. Her negative emotions.
What Ruby is feeling right now for Penny is grief. The pain of losing someone who meant something to you.
Yes, Ruby cared a lot for Penny. I’ll go as far as to say that Ruby may have even loved Penny. But that doesn’t signify that Ruby was ever in love with Penny and vice versa. There’s a difference.
Tumblr media
Basically what I’m saying in a nutshell is not all forms of love and incredibly deep connections are romantic only. Platonic love exists and that’s what I believe we’re seeing with Nuts and Dolts. Penny was one of Ruby’s most dearest friends so it makes sense for her death to hit her. Doesn’t mean there’s any romantic intentions behind it.
Anyone who thinks otherwise…well, that’s their opinion. And this is mine.
As someone who has become completely exasperated by the nonsensical nature of the shipping wars that go down in the RWBY community, I am sincerely not interested in digging up any dead horses and having debates/arguments with any shippers about the probability of their ship being canon or not. Despite being a romantic and have a gigantic shipping heart myself, I’m just so tired of shipping drama when it comes to RWBY. It’s not fun. It’s just so tiresome to listen to which is why I’ve disconnected myself from it entirely.
That being said, if the Nuts and Dolt shippers wish to claim today’s episode as a so-called “win” for their favourite pairing as they  attempt to cling to any tiny remnants of it, then let them have their fun, I guess.
Bottomline, I don’t see Ruby’s speech about Penny confirming anything. Once more, I think the shippers are merely overexaggerating things to help rationalize their push behind their favourite ship while completely ignoring the actual context of the scene in the show.
To me, Nuts and Dolts is, was and always will be just a really good FRIEND-ship that ended in tragedy.
Nothing was confirmed (except Penny being the catalyst to Ruby’s eventual emotional breakdown to come later in the season).
Tumblr media
Ruby and Penny’s “romance” isn’t canonized at all because their romance never existed to begin with.
Today’s episode does not change that. Ruby’s speech about Penny from today was not a proclamation of romantic love.
Just a girl clearly in pain sharing nothing but sincere words of admiration for her deceased friend while trying to keep things together and not crumble under the weight of how sad and angry she is about that.
It was like listening to Ruby give a eulogy for Penny at the funeral she never got to have rather than a love confession. What about that is romantic?
Tumblr media
At least that's how this squiggle meister sees it.
In order to change my stance on this, I would actually need to hear Ruby Rose say in the show that she loved Penny Polendina as more than just a friend and not like family either.
And that’s NOT what happened in today’s episode.
Those are my thoughts on that. Hope I answered your question anon-chan.

Do you think time flows differently in Remnant when one is in the Ever After? It looks like Jaune didn’t age much when he first met Alyx and Luis and when he met team RWBY. How do you think it could affect a potential reunion with RWBYJ with the others in Vacuo? Would also love to hear your thoughts on potential RG reunion and hugs. Thank you!
Hi there Slip!
That is actually something I have pondered about. Personally I would like it if there was some kind of time difference between Remnant and the Ever After since I’m not in favour of the time RWBYJ spent in the Ever After being rendered pointless by the time they return home in the sense that while they’ve been gone for what seemed like days or years in respect to Jaune, on the other side, it had only been more minutes since they were gone so the others didn’t get to really process their absence.
I would be genuinely disappointed if Oscar and the others barely had any time to process their comrade’s presumed deaths if RWBYJ simply returned at the exact moment in time when their friends all arrived in Vacuo.
I want the adventures in the Ever After to have an impact on the whole team including the ones who evaded falling into it. For me, I like the concept of a two to three year time skip between the rest of the hero team back in Remnant while RWBYJ have been in the Ever After.
Some fans and theorists have been hoping for that and this squiggle meister is all for it as well. I want this time skip to happen mainly because I’m curious to see what Ruby’s reaction would be if she were to return to Remnant to discover an older, more battle-hardened Oscar at age 17 who had basically assumed the role of leader in place of her and Jaune since both of them were lost to the Ever After.
I’m also curious what a 16 to 17-year-old Oscar Pine would look like and behave.
Tumblr media
Plus I also like the potential irony of the show-runners potentially erasing the two year difference between the Rosegarden pair since if Ruby were to return to Remnant having not aged at all during her time in the Ever After while Oscar did by three more years; then technically the two would be a lot closer in age by the time they reunite. Ruby will still be 17 going on 18 while Oscar will be 17 too. That would be genuinely hilarious if this came true in the canon XD
That aside, I feel like what the writers are gearing us up for is Ruby not being the same person she was when Oscar first met her.
I feel like by the end of this volume Ruby will have some kind of major identity crisis.  A part of me doesn’t want this volume to end with Ruby being 100% fixed by the Tree. I feel like Ruby is expected to change in more ways than one and become someone else. Or rather something else that isn’t Ruby Rose.
If Ruby isn’t herself anymore and has to live with adjusting to becoming a ‘different person’ while others still see her as her old self then who better to share in/help her through this kind of development than Oscar who is more or less going through the same thing.
Bottom-line, I feel like Ruby’s experience in the Ever After could potentially lead to her relationship with Oscar becoming closer/stronger than it was before.
If the recent episode’s events proved one thing to me is that Oscar matters a lot to Ruby. In respect to what I perceive a reunion between these two would look like---I dunno. It will really depend on how this volume ends in the next two episodes.
Tumblr media
It’s like I said in this recent post from yesterday---
I can either see Ruby reacting to Oscar negatively, being too traumatized by the image of her killing him in cold blood as a result of Neo’s illusions to the point that she refuses to interact with Oscar; believing that the best thing for him would be for the two to not be as close as they were becoming since Ruby would be too scared to lose Oscar and the next volume will be about her and Oscar rebuilding their friendship; maybe even finding something deeper between them by realizing just how much they both mean to one another.
Either that or Ruby wouldn’t be able to contain her relief at seeing the real Oscar---to know that the nightmare version of him she saw in the Ever After was just a fake and she still had a second chance at protecting the one true Oscar who she cares about deeply. That being said, this could lead into a very touching hug moment between the two---one that us RG fans were starved of in V8.
It can go either way.
Depending on how V9 ends, I feel like in the next phase of the story (granted that V10 is greenlit), it can spark a big change in the dynamic of Ruby and Oscar’s relationship. I don’t know what the showrunners’ intentions for these two are but a part of me still wishes to believe that these two are meant to become closer. Each season just gives me more and more hints that that’s the case but who knows.
For now, these are my thoughts on that. I hope this answers your question m’fam.

Hey, LMS! Hope you're well. :) Saw a recent RWBY centric question about a certain pine-themed prince, and wanted to posit a question. What would you say of the odds that Oscar's birthday is in December?
Hiya Al. I’ve been mighty fine, thanks. Hope things are as good on your end as well.
To answer your question---I dunno m’fam. Like the Hunger Games, the odds of Oscar being born in December are ever in your favour.
Because in all seriousness, the Pinehead community seems to be divided on where the birthday of our favourite little prince of a smol farm boi would fall.
Tumblr media
Over the years, I’ve heard different takes---some (like me in the past wanted him to be an Easter baby born earlier in the year), a few wanted him to be born in August to share his birthday with his fairytale counterpart: Princess Ozma of Oz (which is where I got that idea from) and the rest; who are the majority, want him to be born in December because the popular fan theory is for Oscar to be born either around Christmas or on Christmas Day itself.
So, if the CRWBY showrunners were to leave the decision to pick Oscar’s birthday up to his fans then I think the majority will probably pick December since it's the most popular.
As for this squiggle meister’s hot take on it, while Oscar being a Christmas baby does sound cute…I like the idea of him being born on New Year’s Day over Christmas a lot more for the reference to Baby New Year and Father Time given his whole timeless theme shared with Ozpin and the whole Ozma lineage. But that’s just me.

So yeah, that’s how I see it. Hope this answers your question m’fam!

So there a theory that Oscar will maybe get a semblance that helps him fly
Peploe got the idea from what yang said in volume 8 episode 4 and from what
Jaune's lost said in volume 9 were paper pleaser oscar would try to fly away on a kite
So some think Oscar will fly
Hi there anon-chan. Thank you for your inbox!
I’ve actually seen that same theory buzzing around before and I do recall answering a similar inbox prompting me for my opinion on it long ago. So I’ll basically repeat the same stance I shared last time. While I’m not against the idea of Oscar having flight as a power, I personally don’t think that should be his semblance since the ability to fly is something Oscar could do easily if he used magic.
Tumblr media
Take the maidens for example. All three out of the four maidens we’ve encountered thus far in the show share the ability to fly and since the maidens were originally born from Ozma’s magic, one can easily assume that the maidens are using their magic to fly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same thing could be said about the Branwen Twins who turn into birds via magic to fly.
We also got a hint of Ozma using his magic to fly in his second lifetime during that scene in the Lost Fable when he and Salem first presented themselves as “new gods” to the people of Remnant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keeping that in mind, if the CRWBY Writers would just do us Pineheads a huge solid and simply allow Oscar to be the great and powerful character he’s meant to be by actually tapping into what little magic he inherited through Ozma’s lineage, I’m sure Oscar could use it to grant him flight or hovering abilities too. So there would be no need for him to have that as a semblance since he can do it with magic.
As we’ve learnt from RWBY’s lore, a person’s semblance is an awakened power within each huntsmen and huntress that is unique to them. This is why Oscar’s semblance needs to be a power that is unique only to him. He already has a fear of becoming someone else. Just another life for Ozma to live through. Not to mention that most of Oscar’s current skills, powers(i.e magic) and even his signature weapon---the Long Memory--- are things he gained from Ozma. That being said, Oscar needs to have a semblance representative of his own soul. His own being. A power he can truly call his own and his own only.
And I’m sorry m’fam but flight doesn’t sell that for me. Especially when you taken into account that flight is something we’ve seen other magic users do.
So if you wanna see Oscar Pine fly, let him use magic dagnabbit!
Tumblr media
And before you or anyone else says it, yes I know the reason why Oscar can’t use magic in the show is because according to the canon, it accelerates the Merge. But in all seriousness, that just sounds like a BS reason to nerf Oscar and keep him from being probably the most powerful heroes in the main cast.
Weiss Schnee is allowed to pull time dilation, glyphs and all kinds of summons out of her snow white ass but Oscar can’t use an inkling of the magical powers he inherited from his past lives because…PLOT?!
This is why Oscar’s semblance needs and I will stress this again---NEEDS to be something extraordinary. A power that would make all the other characters immediately jealous when he finally awakens it, just as Ruby said back in V7.
Tumblr media
That’s how I see it. Hope that answers your question anon-chan.

Do you think Oscar birthday could be in October like Ruby's
Hiya anon-chan! Hmm, that’s not a bad thought. However, this squiggly Pinehead has always been more preferring of the idea of Oscar being either an Easter/Spring-born child as a Taurus horoscope or a New Year Baby.
Originally I had pegged May 15th as a candidate for Oscar’s birthday but the CRWBY showrunners ended up giving that to Weiss. I mean nothing wrong with Oscar sharing a birthday with another one of our main cast of heroes. Still; I think the main consensus is Oscar having his own birthday separate from another character (since he already shares the spotlight with Ozpin, no need for him to share his birthday with another character too!)  Although, him sharing the same astrological sign with another character wouldn’t be bad.
January 1st still remains my top pick for a possible birth date for Oscar.
Then again; there is also August 21st that is starting to grow on me. And similar to my Oscar Baby New Year theory, this date also fits for him given his fairytale inspiration.
Tumblr media
August 21st is the canonical birthday of Princess Ozma from the Wizard of Oz who Oscar draws inspiration from.
Tumblr media
If Oscar shared the same birthday as his Wizard of Oz counterpart then it would make him a Leo horoscope.
If this were canon then Oscar would be the second Leo in our hero group next to Yang Xiao Long whose birthday is July 28th.
Tumblr media
I actually think this works quite nicely.  Oscar and Yang do share a few similarities in respect to their personalities and more importantly, their dynamic with Ruby.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And speaking of Ruby---Ruby is a Scorpio as we know her to be.
According to research, the Leo-Scorpio combination is a match of opposites. A Leo is outgoing, warm, and sunny, while a Scorpio is introverted, intense, and emotional. The result of this pairing is a love relationship that will be passionate above all else.
The tidbit about Leo’s being sunny works for Yang obviously since her name literally means “sun” in Chinese and her nickname for her by her father is “sunny little dragon”.
However; some Pineheads have also associated Oscar with the sun and warmth and this contrasts with Ruby who is represented by the moon.
Tumblr media
Ruby and Oscar are two smaller, more honest souls who are opposites that also complement each other very well.
Green and Red. Gold and Silver Sun and Moon.
Tumblr media
So to actually answer your question m’fam, no I don’t think Oscar’s canonical birthday could be in October like Ruby…since I actually think it would be more fitting if his birthday came before hers in the year.
And as of now, Oscar being a fellow lion born in August--- protective, warm and caring to perfectly contrast yet balance out Ruby (in a much better way than even her older sister by the way) is really, really working for me.
While I will forever love the concept of him being a new year baby, if Oscar is somehow revealed to be a Leo just like Princess Ozma in the Wizard of Oz and just like Yang in RWBY…then I can totally see it. And I totally dig it cause it fits.
But that’s just me. Ya’ll have seen me ping-pong back and forth between a preferred date for the little prince’s day of birth. This is just a new installment.

Rewatching that new intro, I've now realized that throughout the series, Ruby's character development is still building where she's sinking down further into her problems while the rest of the team has already encountered their personal problems and has overcome them.
Y'know what anon-chan, I think there is something to be said about that---about what we're going to witness as the possible end of Ruby Rose or...at least what we have always perceived her to be.
I've been rewatching the V9 opening theme (cause I absolutely love this theme), analyzing the visuals while additionally taking a closer gander at the lyrics.
I just can't shake the impression that by the end of V9, the character of Ruby Rose is going to disappear forever and what will emerge from the remnants of her former being will be an entirely new different person who is meant to usurp the former and take her place in the story moving forward.
And this is where I believe Alyx---our mystery Alice in Wonderland character from the OP--- is going to play a part in that development. Thanks for informing me @miraculouscorazone.
To aimlessly toss another ludicrously far-fetched theory onto the table of possibilities,
What if…Ruby Rose is going to “die” by the final chapter of her misadventures in the Ever After and by the time her allies return to Remnant, they wouldn’t be accompanied by what we know Ruby to be anymore but…someone else.
Something else and that something could be Alyx…or whatever the character of Alyx is meant to represent in the grander scheme of things?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Allow me to explain. According to a tweet by RWBY Youtuber: Calxiyn, Alyx is the girl from the Remnant Fairytale: The Girl Who Fell Through the World (teased in Roman Holiday) and the meaning behind her name is “protector of humanity”.
So…what does this insinuate? Leaning into the far-fetched side of my hunch, a part of me wants to consider the concept of Alyx being the one destined to stop Salem once and for all and is the missing solution that Ozma never found because she was never in Remnant but in a completely other world.
Or…on the non-farfetched side of things, perhaps it’s not the character of Alyx that is important but what she symbolizes---the protector of humanity.
Let’s say…in the Ever After, Alyx was the protector of whatever world she originally came from before ending up in the Ever After and her presense is what will challenge and put pressure on Ruby because there will be similarities between the two girls.
So maybe that’s what Ruby is meant to become.
The true protector of humanity and her world of Remnant but she needs to endure the Ever After and what that world reveals about herself in order to come to that realization and transform into that kind of being.
Throughout the V9 trailer, the question of what Ruby Rose is going to be keeps coming up and I find that rather curious since…why ask her what she is going to be instead of who she is going to be?
I guess the answer is already there, right? Ruby knows and has always known who she is. She is Ruby Rose. But what is she meant the be? The kind of person she is meant to become if she continued on this path she’s on, this is the part that’s being brought into the question now. What is Ruby meant to become in the war against Salem? Or rather, what does she need to be and become to stop Salem?
(This is making me think back to Trollhunters when Jim needed to shed his humanity and become a troll in order to stand a chance at defeating Gunmar.
Having our hero character go through a drastic change in order to be ready to defeat the main villain type of archetype).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because really and truly, what is Ruby Rose?
From what we’ve gathered about her over previous seasons, Ruby Rose is a human girl born and raised in the world of Remnant.
She is the youngest daughter of Summer Rose and Tai Yang Xiao Long.
She is the baby sister of Xang Xiao Long. She is a huntress. She is the leader of Team RWBY. She is a Silver Eyed Warrior…possibly even the last of her kind (granted that Salem doesn’t have more Silver Eyes she’s kept enslaved to be used as lab rats for her grimm experiments).
But what does this all mean in the grand storyline. Do all of these little facts that we know about Ruby truly answer what she is, especially when measured up to other significant facts that there is an immortal being back on her home world whom she and her allies have no concept on how to defeat.
What Ruby becomes after the Ever After is important. She may not even be Ruby anymore. She may be someone completely different and that’s the part of all this that has this squiggle meister boggled.
I know we're only on the first episode and all we’ve gotten so far is the opening (and the trailers before it) but, as I mentioned in my first impressions post, there were moments from the opening visuals that rationalize why I think Ruby is going to disappear and either she’ll be replaced by Alyx or…she’ll become Alyx or…an ‘Alyx’ meaning the “true protector of humanity”---the one meant to stop Salem once and for all?
Tumblr media
There were lines from the V9 trailer that got me thinking like this. There were these lines of monologue from the RWBY V9 Official Trailer:
“...What are you?”
“...You never were the hero…”
“So…what are you gonna be?”
“...You seem to be carrying a rather large burden with you…”
“I’m fine. I can handle it.”
“What if you could leave Ruby Rose behind? Shed like an old coat. What might happen if you don’t?”
Tumblr media
There’s this real push for Ruby to abandon her old self and become something else. It’s even hinted in the opening theme.
“...In a fairy-tale she’ll find
Inside, A New Me I’m Ready
But who will I find?
Inside
I gotta let go But could I lost my mind…?”
It’s seems like we’re being geared up to watch the character of Ruby Rose be undone and unraveled only to be built up into something else.
What that will be? Will that something be positive or negative? A good ending to the fairy-tale or a bad one?
I don’t have the slightest clue but…I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t invested in seeing it play out because it’s all in the name of Ruby’s development and after watching the little red rose get overlooked for many seasons prior (despite being the literal main character and FACE of the franchise), it’ll be a welcomed and much, much needed sight to see her be a main focus of a season for once.
As a little red fan, colour me intrigued, I guess. Just hope it’s not another disappointing bait and switch from the showrunners. I can't stomach another season of Ruby being mistreated.
So I hope her story in the Ever After will be a good one.
