Our Final Word on Student Loan Forgiveness
I’m boldly labeling today’s post our final update on student loan forgiveness in America. Yes, I could seal the deal by titling it “Final FINAL Update On Student Loan Forgiveness V2_2.” But that feels unnecessary. It’s implied. We’ve written a lot about student loan forgiveness. As a campaign promise, we loved it, but had zero faith it would ever happen. When the pandemic hit and it improbably…

This article explains why when Reagan was the governor of California, he cut way back on funding for state universities. Heaven forbid, that inexpensive higher education created an “educated proletariat.”
Reagan’s cutbacks in California set off a domino effect among Republican lawmakers until one state after another repeatedly cut funding to state colleges and universities. Consequently, tuitions went up to compensate for lost state financing and many working and middle class young people could not afford to go to college without taking out student loans.
Consequently, student loan forgiveness is unthinkable to the GOP. In their worldview, high student loan dept discourages working and middle class young adults from attending college.
Given all the above, it isn’t so surprising that today (Feb. 3, 2023) Business Insider reported that:
On Friday, 128 of the 222 House Republicans signed onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to block student-debt relief.
It came alongside a separate brief filed by 43 GOP senators opposing the relief.
They both argued that Biden doesn't have the authority to cancel student debt using the HEROES Act of 2003.
Republicans: They like their proletariat ignorant.
That way, the masses are easier to control and manipulate.

"Several Republican-led states have filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over its plan to provide relief to millions of Americans burdened by student loan debt, accusing President Joe Biden of bypassing Congress and exceeding his authority."
Because that's a great way to get people with student debt to vote Republican?

The Biden administration announced Friday that it will forgive the student loans of more than 800,000 borrowers, wiping out $39 billion in debt. The Education Department first announced last year a one-time adjustment to help address inaccuracies in payment counts for borrowers in income-driven repayment plans, or people who might qualify for the debt-relief programs. The plans allow forgiveness after making a certain number of monthly payments, typically after 20 or 25 years. “For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress toward forgiveness,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement Friday. “By fixing past administrative failures, we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve,” he said.

While I do find humor in the fact that this student loan debt cancellation came the year after my husband and I finished paying off our debts, I’m going to have to say that NO, THIS DECISION DIDN’T PUNISH US IN ANY WAY FOR DOING SO.
Do you have any idea how many of the people I love just got their lives changed, dramatically for the better? You bet your ass I’m celebrating with all of you who just had 10,000-20,000 dollars of debt disappear!

Once upon a time the federal government created a student loan program. Then this program executed predatory lending practices, preying on the very students it was supposed to help.
When everything began to look hopeless, instead of shutting down this horrid federal student loan program, government officials transferred student loan debt onto the public and generations upon generations afterward were broke, overworked, and overtaxed.
This is how big government works. It creates problems then pretends to fix them.
The end.

When the pandemic hit and it improbably grew legs, we were shocked and elated—though still skittish. After all, it had been so long since we had unreservedly great news to share with our readers. Like a houseplant that’s been given too little water, too much water, too little sunlight, or too much sunlight, the politically optimistic part of our brains withered and turned brown years ago!
Even as the policy details came out and the application for student loan forgiveness went live, we kept nervously casting about for the cameras recording our joy for a cruel prank show.
And sure enough, we stand before you today, picking banana cream pie out of our hair.

Do you have Student Loan Debt and did you get fucked by the Supreme Court's decision to not allow your debt to be forgiven?
I just filed an appeal to the Department of Education requesting they cancel my federal student debt using HEA authority. You should too. Use the Student Debt Release Tool at http://bit.ly/StudentDebtReleaseTool
Consider doing that, the "how they fucked you" section was very cathartic.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #13
April 5-12 2024
President Biden announced the cancellation of a student loan debt for a further 277,000 Americans. This brings the number of a Americans who had their debt canceled by the Biden administration through different means since the Supreme Court struck down Biden's first place in 2023 to 4.3 million and a total of $153 billion of debt canceled so far. Most of these borrowers were a part of the President's SAVE Plan, a debt repayment program with 8 million enrollees, over 4 million of whom don't have to make monthly repayments and are still on the path to debt forgiveness.
President Biden announced a plan that would cancel student loan debt for 4 million borrowers and bring debt relief to 30 million Americans The plan takes steps like making automatic debt forgiveness through the public service forgiveness so qualified borrowers who don't know to apply will have their debts forgiven. The plan will wipe out the interest on the debt of 23 million Americans. President Biden touted how the plan will help black and Latino borrowers the most who carry the heavily debt burdens. The plan is expected to go into effect this fall ahead of the election.
President Biden and Vice-President Harris announced the closing of the so-called gun show loophole. For years people selling guns outside of traditional stores, such as at gun shows and in the 21st century over the internet have not been required to preform a background check to see if buyers are legally allowed to own a fire arm. Now all sellers of guns, even over the internet, are required to be licensed and preform a background check. This is the largest single expansion of the background check system since its creation.
The EPA published the first ever regulations on PFAS, known as forever chemicals, in drinking water. The new rules would reduce PFAS exposure for 100 million people according to the EPA. The Biden Administration announced along side the EPA regulations it would make available $1 billion dollars for state and local water treatment to help test for and filter out PFAS in line with the new rule. This marks the first time since 1996 that the EPA has passed a drinking water rule for new contaminants.
The Department of Commerce announced a deal with microchip giant TSMC to bring billions in investment and manufacturing to Arizona. The US makes only about 10% of the world's microchips and none of the most advanced chips. Under the CHIPS and Science Act the Biden Administration hopes to expand America's high-tech manufacturing so that 20% of advanced chips are made in America. TSMC makes about 90% of the world's advanced chips. The deal which sees a $6.6 billion dollar grant from the US government in exchange for $65 billion worth of investment by TSMC in 3 high tech manufacturing facilities in Arizona, the first of which will open next year. This represents the single largest foreign investment in Arizona's history and will bring thousands of new jobs to the state and boost America's microchip manufacturing.
The EPA finalized rules strengthening clean air standards around chemical plants. The new rule will lower the risk of cancer in communities near chemical plants by 96% and eliminate 6,200 tons of toxic air pollution each year. The rules target two dangerous cancer causing chemicals, ethylene oxide and chloroprene, the rule will reduce emissions of these chemicals by 80%.
the Department of the Interior announced it had beaten the Biden Administration goals when it comes to new clean energy projects. The Department has now permitted more than 25 gigawatts of clean energy projects on public lands, surpass the Administrations goal for 2025 already. These solar, wind, and hydro projects will power 12 million American homes with totally green power. Currently 10 gigawatts of clean energy are currently being generated on public lands, powering more than 5 million homes across the West.
The Department of Transportation announced $830 million to support local communities in becoming more climate resilient. The money will go to 80 projects across 37 states, DC, and the US Virgin Islands The projects will help local Infrastructure better stand up to extreme weather causes by climate change.
The Senate confirmed Susan Bazis, Robert White, and Ann Marie McIff Allen to lifetime federal judgeships in Nebraska, Michigan, and Utah respectively. This brings the total number of judges appointed by President Biden to 193

Just A Bunch Of Random Thoughts
Just A Bunch Of Random Thoughts
It’s been a rough few days in a couple of ways, and tonight my mind is all over the place.  I suspect it may be this way for another two weeks or so, and after that … who knows.  Anyway, tonight I’m just sharing some of the thoughts that have been keeping me awake nights of late.  Random thoughts … no necessary path from one to another … just things that are disturbing the peace in my head. I…
