Thank you, Matpat. Thank you for being such a big part of my life, for being a huge part of my childhood, because, ultimately, you and Steph are the theorists that I grew up with. And I am so, so glad that you're continuing with your life, but not leaving us behind. Because, as much as I'll miss seeing you in the videos, I'm happy that you're gonna be behind the scenes.
I'm happy that you can hand it off to other people. And I love Amy, I love Tom, I love Santi, and I love Lee, they're gonna be amazing hosts on the channels, but I'm gonna miss you. I'm gonna miss seeing you, gonna miss hearing you say "That's just a theory.". I know, I can just watch the older videos, but it's not gonna be the same without you.
And I'm going to be sitting in my room on March 9th, and cry. I'm going to be crying my eyes out, because you were such an incredibly huge part of me growing up. And if this ever reaches you, I'm proud of you. I'm so incredibly proud of all that you've done. I'm happy for you, Matpat. I'm gonna miss you, but hey.
It's just a theory. A Matpat theory. Thank you for reading.
ok first of all, i found out about all this through this ask
second, i was freaking out that he got cancelled (thank god it wasnt that)
i didn't watch the entire video, because five seconds in and i was sort of in mourning (plus I knew I was gonna be bawling my eyes out at work). like FNAF wouldn't have been FNAF without MatPat posting that infamous theory about the first FNAF game being about the Chuck E Cheese murders. You could not have a FNAF game without a Game Theory video following right after; it got to the point to where I would scream at my screen when I saw a new FNAF Game Theory video pop into frame, bc I took MatPat's theorizing seriously enough to change my canon, because I knew the man was dedicated enough to provide substantial evidence.
But I get it; he's been on Youtube for a long time and he wants to focus on raising his family. Game Theory will never be the same, but MatPat will always live on with FNAF. This man went from fighting with Scott to getting mpreg'd by Springtrap to making out with Movie Mike
(And in a weird way, I sorta inherited the torch of being tormented by Scott/Steel Wool not making any of my headcanons canon)
I don't think I can put into words how much Matpat and the Theorist channels, especially Game Theory, mean to me. While I was heartbroken when he announced his retirement, I understand completely and wish him and his family the best.
While I'm not the biggest horror fan, (I don't like gore and jumpscares), I'm still fascinated by the indie horror series that are out there. I've gained an appreciation for these kinds of stories, and that's in large part thanks to Matpat because I learned about them through Game and Film Theory. So what better way to pay tribute than to represent some of my favorites right here?
