I really love characters whose lives are basically so ridiculous to everyone around them that even other characters (and not just readers) notice and point it out 😭🙏

I adore Temeraire and Naomi Novik for constantly reminding us that William 'attracts danger at every turn and if not danger, then me and my dragon are at least a political disaster for any country we get into' Laurence is a ridiculous man with a ridiculous life 😭

Every time I think about that scene in BoT where Laurence is upset about being spied on again and Tharkay is like “take it as a compliment that you’re important enough to be spied on.” I lose it. Golly Gee Mr. Tharkay, what an interesting opinion on spies that is! Wonder where you, our dear mysterious translator and guide friend who is definitely not a spy, came across it.
