After Good Omens S2 I realised that although I think Michael Sheen is a fantastic actor, I hadn't actually seen a great deal of his work (at that time only Mary Reilly, Wilde and Underworld), so I've been taking steps to rectify that.
2 days ago I bought a copy of The Damned United in a charity shop. I fucking hate football (soccer as some of you may call it, but I'm English and to us that's football), but for Michael Sheen I was willing to give it a try. He achieved the impossible and made me enjoy a football-centric movie.
This was partially helped by the fact that I was born in Nottingham in 1981, and Brian Clough was and still is considered to be a local hero. There's a statue of him in Nottingham City centre today. My gran once saw him out jogging while she was walking her dog, and got a smile and a wave from him. I guess that can't help but seep into the unconscious no matter how you feel about the sport.
Anyway, The Damned United - highly recommended to any fan of Michael Sheen. I especially enjoyed that the ending was framed like the ending of a romantic movie where the lead couple gets back together. Hopefully we'll see him do a similar scene in GO S3 😁
