I wanna start reading Arthurian…..where should I begin
*rubs hands* oh excellent
I'd say one way would be to pick characters or events you'd like to read about the most and start with the texts focusing on them. @fuckyeaharthuriana has a lot of lists of different works, including those sorted by character (links in the blog description). Then, if you decide you enjoy Arthuriana in general, you can move to other texts. Another way would be to start with something well-known and short. I believe Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fits the bill well. The translation linked is more like an example, because there's a lot of them, and I frankly don't know which to suggest best; the one I read is by Bernard O’Donoghue, but I can't find it online. I've also heard very good things about Tolkien's translation - understandable, because duh, Tolkien - but haven't read it (yet). The works of Chrétien de Troyes are also very good and readable and imo very well represent what a medieval romance is. My favourite is Yvain: Knight of the Lion, and I haven't read his Perceval yet, but I liked all the other of his romances too. (Ok, maybe not Erec and Enide, but that's because I found the main character very annoying)
I've compiled a small list of Arthurian texts I recommend before when answering a similar ask, and I still stand by it, except, taking into account what I've read since then, I'd also add La Tavola Ritonda - an Italian Arthurian romance mostly focused on Tristan and Isolde, weird and violent but also very enjoyable, in my opinion, Parzival (vol. 1, vol. 2) by Wolfram Von Eschenbach - a German romance and my favourite version of the Grail story so far, and Lancelot-Grail aka the Vulgate Cycle + the Post-Vulgate. I'm not sure starting with the latter is a good idea, though, because it's five huge volumes, very readable (except for The History of the Holy Grail. You can skip that, if you ask me) and with a great impact on the later Arthurian texts, including Le Morte d'Arthur, but HUGE, it took me half a year, lol. (Le Morte is also long and often drier in style, but still not THAT long). But I simply had to mention it because it's such a foundational work. A part of the Vulgate Cycle has been adapted by Patricia Terry and Samuel N. Rosenberg as Lancelot and the Lord of the Distant Isles or, The Book of Galehaut Retold. It's short and beautiful, and you don't need to be familiar with the rest of the Vulgate to read it.
Oh, and if you're interested in more modern retellings, Idylls of the Queen by Phyllis Ann Karr is an episode from Le Morte d'Arthur retold as a murder mystery solved by Kay and Mordred, and it's amazing. Also The Squire's Tales series by Gerald Morris is a lot of fun, kind of for a younger reader but very well-written and funny, even though some of his choices regarding certain characters drive me up the wall a little bit.
Also, here's a great site by @tillman with a lot of links to various Arthurian texts!

so i'm looking through my inbox (bc i haven't been ignoring anyone, but this year has been A LOT!!!) and there seems to be a lot of people asking for advice on how to develop their muses and characters! so i was thinking, maybe later in the summer i might make another blog, and each day i'd post a little question for ye to explore your muses with? like "what does your muse smell like?" "describe your muse's bedtime routine" and stuff like that? would that be something people might be interested in? lmk what you think!

PLEASE READ THIS!!! I need input!! I'm going to throw this idea out there because I was very excited about it at 3am when I couldn't sleep but it's super ambitious!!!
I'm considering doing a challenge based on shows like the Mole and the Traitor (if you're unfamiliar, they're kind of along the lines of a murder mystery or games like Jackbox's Push the Button and Among Us - finding the "imposter" and having team challenges inbetween).
Very bare bones explanation: people would submit their sims of varying ages and personalities (young adult to elder, it would take several sims to achieve this) and by random draw some of the sims would play as traitors/imposters in secret while everyone else is a teammate/faithful. Obviously the objective of the "show" would be for the faithfuls/castmates to get rid of the traitors/imposters before they take out the faithfuls (kind of like Among Us). BASICALLY lots of lying and strategizing, physical/mental challenges, drama, and a simoleon prize at the end for the winner(s).

today, September 1st 2023, is officially the 13th anniversary of Jetpack Joyride! to celebrate one of my absolute favourite mobile games, i drew a little sketch of Barry and Craig partying the night away together with some good ol' fashioned totally-not-champagne apple soda :)
i was planning to do a digital drawing, but because i totally definitely didn't forget that JJ's anniversary was today, it might be a bit fashionably late :) happy 13th anniversary Jetpack Joyride!
p.s. ignore the fact that i completely forgot to draw the big crack down craig's visor ssshhhhh i'll fix it later ;) just pretend he got it fixed kk lol

Ok so we're back with the body and soul dichotomy and we have another perspective. After mahito's soul came before body and not-geto's body and soul are one, now we have a body stronger than a soul si kinda the opposite of what mahito was saying... but if we consider that here toji soul cam back because his body was brought back this is very close to not-geto's explanation on the matter: body and soul are one, but apparently how much the soul transpire in the body after death depends on the person.
Since toji has no cursed energy but he has an incredible physical strength, this panels seem to imply that we should equate soul with cursed energy and body with physical strength, so in his specifc case the soul cannot be dependant on cursed energy but is ingrained in the body and the outcome is a superhuman strength and a nullification of the dichotomy

Hi Maddie! Do you have love stories that inspire you? I know we already talked about books but do you have movie inspiration in your stories?
Forever love 🧡💋
Deadmantis my love 🧡
Will you ever forgive me for taking so long to answer you? And I'm afraid my answer won't even be very satisfying, but as usual, you've sent my mind reeling into introspection...
I watch a lot of movies, I love nearly every movie genre, so it probably permeates my imagination even more than I know.
When it comes to love stories, you won't be surprised, but for me it's all about the forever love.
And my two favourites are Bram Stoker's Dracula (very different from the book, I love both) and... The Terminator. I know. Weird. But it's first and foremost a love story. The one common thread between the two stories is how the male protagonist crossed time for his Great Love. Dracula says "I have crossed oceans of time to find you." and Kyle says "I came across time for you, Sarah. I love you; I always have." I mean... you see it, right?!!
And in that regard, The Notebook might not be a cinematographic masterpiece, but the enduring love really got me. Besides, I really enjoy when the two protagonists come from different social backgrounds, like in Dirty Dancing (I fucking love this movie and you can't tell me it's not political, I could write an essay about it), Love Story or Atonement because, surprise!!! what really really rocks my boat is a doomed love. I love it when it hurts. Hence the initial ending to PTMY...
Off the top of my head, here are a few movies that have wrecked me, with my consent and gratitude: La Reine Margot, Romeo + Juliet (I was never into Leo but always very much into Shakespeare so YES), La Solitudine Dei Numeri Primi, Brief Encounter, The Way We Were, Bullhead (not exactly a love story, but kind of), Decision to Leave, The Broken Circle Breakdown...
Ok, I'll stop rambling, but before, I'll add Perdrix: not a doomed love, but a sweet story about two lonely souls saving each others 🧡
Now please, I want to know what are the movies that inspire you? What movie has wrecked you? Made you happy? Feed your dreams?
Ily 🧡
