hoooooooooo boy, tmagp 4 go-
this time its becoming apparent that there are some themes and clues that tmagp wants us to notice, the sections stand out, begging for attention
like the recurring theme of bones, and blood, and gore in general (it might be too soon to tell exactly what themes are leading to, but they are definitely there)
the violin could fit right in grifter's bone with it's affinity to music and violence
(the music feels aligned to circus over spiral or web
tho there are elements of the web what with the mind control, but i fear all fears possess a certain degree of control, as such
the violence feels more of the slaughter variety rather than the hunt, though you could make a valid argument for flesh as the words 'sacrifice', 'payment' and 'creature with needs and purposes of its own' do stick in mind
once again i do not think that tmagp follows the same format as the smirke's fourteen (or 15) , i merely use them as parallels to better explain what aspects of the episode sticks out to me (and for me refer back later on))
as other listeners have noted, another theme that tmagp in general follows, is 'obsession', rather than tma's 'fear'
i feel this is also paralleling (intentionally or not) the audience's own listening habits and motives
we first consumed the magnus archives for its content of horror
and yet we are back for the magnus protocol like we never left, and perhaps
we never did
the statement's first person pov depicts a truly horrific picture of the slaughter, of the violence that the violin demands
and his descriptions of the mania on the audience's faces too
it's eerily reminiscent of the france's dancing plague
enough about the statement, lets talk about my boy sam and his co-workers, and their workplace in general
there's a protocol surrounding the magnus institute? interesting interesting, very similar to the police division daisy and basira were part of, the unofficial supernatural division
is this like the civil servant version of such?
another thing that is interesting; how is freddy getting these statements incidents? like sam asked, how exactly does a letter from the 18th century end up in the system?
i don't think gwen's answer is satisfactory (and we weren't meant to either), sure someone might be updating the archives website for reasons unknown but rarely in magpod is something a dead end, every little thing is a clue, a small part of the larger picture
so how exactly does a letter from the 18th century is in freddy's system?
perhaps an 'avatar' or the equivalent (such people are suggested to exist in tmagp universe, like the tattooist from daria's statement)
or maybe the fears themselves manifest in phenomena that upload relevant content to freddy
colin my guy, still being iconic and not trusting tech, hats off to you, the only real character in the whole show
never trust any piece of technology older than paper
the video of lena that gwen got in the end? weird? yeah, fuck yes, but how did she even get it? is there any sort of personal communication available on the ancient system? why gwen?
i have so many questions and so many more thoughts, but this is already so long, im gonna write a separate post about tmagp so far, in general

Within it I could spy an assortment of trinkets, ranging from battered knives and chipped porcelain to fine jewelry, small ivory figures and even a set of gambler’s dice.
"Luck assumes a myriad of forms," he proclaimed...
(From episode 4)
I thought those dice sounded familiar...

Guys I made a discovery!! (Spoilers for EP 4 and EP 9 of Protocol)
I’ve been re-listening to all the current protocol episodes with my grandma over spring break (me and her have been listening to tma together for 2 years) and I think I noticed something that I haven’t seen anywhere else. In episode 4 when Augustus is reading the statement about the hunger violin, the statement mentions a few things the stranger has in is sack along with said violin
Tumblr media
When I heard gamblers dice be read my jaw dropped to the floor!! there is no doubt this stranger was carrying around the dice from episode 9: Rolling with it. Because of this tie-in I think this strange trinket man will be a recurring avatar. My guess is he will take a similar rolls as Salesa, dealing in cursed artifacts that were gifted power by the entities.
Just in case it comes back here’s a list of all the stuff mentioned to be in the Trinket man’s sack
Battered knives
Chipped porcelain
Fine jewelry (this one is kind of vague tbh )
Ivory figures
I’m guessing because the dice are mentioned with extra emphasis, we won’t see anymore of the for mentioned items but you never know
I think we all need to be on the watch for The Trinket Man

Just realised that in The Magnus Protocol 4 when the player protects his fingers with the bandages the violin can't get any blood or flesh. That's why it makes the audience descend to violence, to provide it.

Anyone else struck with the realization that maybe possibly the Audrey 2 violin might have something to do with Grifters Bone?
Let me elaborate- so, the part of episode 4 where good old ‘Augustus’ narrated how this guy wrapped up his fingers so the violin wouldn’t hurt him and ended up causing a massacre gave me some SERIOUS flash backs to Mag 42-
And if I remember correctly, that statement also describes the music at fault for the bloody mess as ‘beautiful’ and if we really think about it- nobody who we KNOW heard Grifters Bone described it as awful, as we are led to believe.
I think it might be something- it might not- but I think it might be cool-
Edit: I did some more research- and by that I mean listening to both statements enough that I have them completely memorized.
There is another part or Mag 42 in which it is mentioned that the one playing the keyboard has bleeding fingers. “As he placed his fingers on his instrument, they left behind dark red spots on the bright white keys.”
Now I’m not quite sure what that means. It could mean that there is more than one instrument that has this kind of effect, or maybe there are pieces of the violin within Grifters Bones instruments.
It’s also confusing that his fingers seem to be bleeding despite the massacre, which opposites the violin, where if it doesn’t take its blood from you it causes the massacre to feed it.
Again, I’m not sure why it might have changed like this, I’m just saying a lot could’ve happened to that violin over the course of 2 centuries.
The wording of Mag 42 and TMAGP 4 have strangely similar wording, and it seems way to similar to be coincidental. At least to me- 😅
End of Edit:
Anyways thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Another edit: SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE GUYS! I realized he didn’t write this episode! Full credit to Cole Weavers! I fixed it 👍👍👍

oh so when an old man with a quirky violin says "lubricated" it's fine, but when i, someone plagued horrors not supernatural in nature but horrors nonetheless, says "lubricated" it's "weird," and "disconcerting," and "shouldn't be used in that context."
i see how it is

why are we not more curious about sam searching the database for "magnus protocol" ?? especially when jonah magnus' protocol was body-hopping as a means of immortality in a quest to bring about the apocalypse... and yes it could be unrelated but we should probably still be worried if private military contractors are being deployed to hide information about a magnus-related protocol, right ??

if you guys are right, and all the cases are picked by the voices based on themes, then my god they packed a lot into the one case augustus has read thus far.
themes such as:
watching someone die instead of helping them
discovering that the only way to get what you feel you deserve is by sacrificing yourself and others
passing down the curse, almost hoping the person you're passing it down to will be strong enough to reject it
powers/abilities fueled by suffering and sacrifice
reputation and dignity, specifically the fight to maintain both when the world wants to deny you them based on circumstances of birth
i wonder what we'd discover if we stopped asking "how does this prove who's inside the computer?" and started asking "what does this prove about that theoretical someone?"

Starkwell? Like from the ARG? The OIAR was meant to have stopped associating with them back in 2000...
(I’m not putting in the time to put this into clear language, but please enjoy the spaghetti I was throwing at the wall on Wednesday morning:)
Klaus – person that Lena was talking to (name found in episode transcript)
Klaus.xls – spreadsheet from ARG
CAT3RBC1567-23092022-18012024 – classification for Episode 2 with Ink5oul
Row 80 from the spreadsheet:
Tumblr media
Alt text copied because the button is small and hard to click: A screenshot of two rows from a spreadsheet. The columns in the top row read: “1, Angelegenheit #, Datum, Ort, Kategorie, Rang, TSHU, Notizen”. The columns in the bottom row read: “80, [Datenschaden]-####-##-##, [Datenschaden], [Datenschaden], 3, B/C, 1567, Tinte”. Lined up, Kategorie = 3, Rang = B/C, TSHU = 1567.
And translated…

I think we can safely say that TSHU is the same as DPHW… maybe H is a name?
"Ink" was in the notes for several rows. Recurring character?
Episode 3 was also listed, in column 64, though with no notes.
D1P2H2W3 was in the initial show trailer: DPHW 1223. Does not match any current episodes.

I think it's interesting that the violin instructor threw himself out of the coach after hearing the violin, basically hurting himself.
But when our casement giver plays it, the audience hurts eachother.
Why did only the instructor hear it? Or did our casement giver lie and he did threw him out of the coach. But the driver didn't hear it either.
I wonder what the merchant gains from trading these items.

i don't know if anyone pointed this out already, but MAG 007 - The Piper "When he talked like that, he had an odd habit of trailing off in the middle of the conversation with a tilt of his head, as though his attention had been taken by a far-off sound." and "And then I did hear it – gently riding over the pulse of mortars and the rattle of guns and the moans of dying men, a faint, piping melody." TMAGP 004 - Taking Notes "At moments, it seemed almost as if he were listening to some far away music, though my instrument lay quiet beside me." Both Wilfred Owen from The Piper and Oliver Bardwell from Taking Notes soon after hearing that melody that no one else could hear died tragically, right? and since The Piper is associated with the Slaughter, i wonder if it's the same case here in Taking Notes? but does it mean that this universe has fear entities as well or is it just The Piper as a being but not related to the Slaughter??

I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all of the Magnus Protocol case categorizations and I've just now found the first thread of a theory.
Tumblr media
In the selected column, you'll see each code starts with CAT 1, 2, or 3. We've just received our third CAT3 today. I assume CAT is category, and my suspicion is that they're categorized based on their relation to the Magnus Institute and/or Jonah Magnus, a higher number indicating more relevance. The only CAT 3s have been either about the Institute, or read by Augustus, who is heavily theorized to be Jonah himself. If this categorization is based on Magnus relevance, the OIAR must be linked to surveillance of specifically Magnus-related things, or that categorization wouldn't exist. The implications of this? Still up in the air. I'd be willing to bet though, that whatever we hear in next week's episode will be at Least category 3, though I'd love to see our first 4.
