pardon me! I wanted to try the game tears of thermos, but I’m a little nervous since I don’t play these type of games. Do you have any advice on how to best enjoy myself and invest in its world/characters?

im particularly interested in how you worded this ask!! ive had a lot of people ask me tips on how to start tot (and the relevant ones, i'll link in this ask too) but never on a narrative investment/immersion angle. so my tips for this will be a bit different

but before that, here are my past tips from my tot tips tag

general tips for a newbie (gameplay tips and story tips)

how to "predict" upcoming events

tot stories in chronological order (only updated til july 2022)

now for your question i guess my biggest tip would really just be to treat tears of themis like a visual novel that just so happens to update with more stories.

idk how much of a newbie you are to this genre, but when i got into this game i had NEVER played any other otome before in my life. so it was all new to me!! and i basically treated it like an updating visual novel, this is My Method, and that got me quite invested (as is obvious from my entire blog). so when i say "treat it like a visual novel" i mean:

im personally not particularly a card completionist or a gacha enthusiast. which, hell yeah, this game wont bankrupt me LOL. but also, since cards are the main way where new nxx boy stories are released through, for any card i dont have, i just watch it on youtube. because basically every card, event plot, minigame, etc gets uploaded by someone a little bit after its release. so if youre bummed you missed an event card but you dont really Want the card, you just want its story, just search it on youtube!! search [card name/event name] + [whichever language dub you prefer] + tears of themis and voila! new story for you to read!!!

if you want plot = read Main Story. this is where all the heavy main plot happens and it is SO GRIPPING AND RIVETING.

if you want character development and relationship development between mc and each boy = read Personal Story Bloom Chapter, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 1 card, Personal Story Sweet Chapter 1 and 2, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 2 card. the personal story routes (aka the routes where mc eventually ends up with the boy romantically) are where a BULK of characterization and character development happens, imo

if you want romance and oneshot dates = explore the available cards!!! the tot wiki has an archive of all the available cards per boy on each of the characters' main pages. for example, here's luke's page. scroll down to the cards section and Behold. Luke Stories As Far As The Eye Can See

these pages dont have the story transcribed in them, but theyre great to use as a directory or a map of cards. so if any of the cards catch your eye, then take urself to youtube to find the card and voila (again)! new story for u to experience!

(note: SSRs always have a full 6 act story. SRs either have a 6 act story that is unvoiced, OR 2 voice messages. MRs always have 2 voice messages. R cards have no story and no voice messages)

if you want nxx team dynamics = read and/or play the events!!!! this is my favorite thing, the tot events are a treasure trove of fun cases and awesome team dynamics. in the game itself, some of the big events are available as DLC for anybody to play themselves at any time. to get there, X-NOTE Story -> lower and rightmost button Event -> upper and rightmost button Past.

if theres anything i would reccommend the MOST, itd be to download and pllay the event Mysteries of the Lost Gold. it's so good. it's my favorite event story. trust me on this

Tot community please help: anyone got a good place to find recordings/ dialogue lines for events like the current Secrets of Bakerlon and Lost Gold? I accidently skipped past some dialogue till I exited it and can't seem to get it back and I think I missed something impt

Preferably I'd like the En text over translations but anything that has the lines documented for the event stories is good!

Hello!! I'm kinda new to ToT and i want to catch up with the lore, but I really have no space to download or play and I wanted to know if there's some sort of archive for the stories outside of the games?

hi anon!! sadly there is none that i know of. this is a bit tricky because While every story (be it cards, events, main stories, etc.) that has been released on global has definitely been uploaded in some form to youtube, navigating that is a bit of a challenge because it's the game itself provides the like......structure by which to view them all?

my best tip to you would be this past tot tips ask i answered that gives tips on which stories to read, and how to use the tot wiki as a directory for card stories

hi :D do you know if there is a date for the empyrean's touch please? i don't know if it has been disclosed yet,,, just so i can see if i start to save s-chips rn or if i can try to get vyn's gilded gloaming ssr card first lol

hi anon! you definitely have time to try for that vyn ssr because the vyn ssr event is on global server, and the empyrean's touch mr series event is on cn server!!!

generally, the cn server is around one year ahead of the global server. since empyrean's touch became available to cn server at around may 15, 2023, us on global server can expect it available for us at around the same time next year, 2024.

so theres ample time to save for schips HAHA. hope this helps!

Hi Zak! Possibly a dumb question but, if we already finished the DLC event when it first came out, is there any point (other than replaying the mini-games I guess) in doing it all over again? Thank you!

hi anon!! no worries, this isnt dumb at all!

lotsa ppl replay/speedrun thru the DLC version of the event even if theyve played it the first time around mostly for the Task Rewards. a bunch of s-chips can be acquired from finishing all the tasks, as well as that astral memory currency which can be used to get items and level up materials!!

but that aside, nothing new happens in the DLC version of any event!! itll basically just be there whenever you wanna play it, without the time limit of it ever going away. for the SOTT DLC in particular though, there were changes made to the exploration minigame and this thread by Pekoelotte on twitter details the changes quite well. some highlights from that thread are: instead of 5 levels of exploration, it's now 10 (omg???) also, artem's exploration power got nerfed. RIP to our overprepared king.....

I cannot BELIEVE I only just found out you could pull on Luke's cheeks in visits. Are there any more little interactions in his that one might missed? I just had to come running for consultation of the Luke-connoisseur because I'm losing my MIND

omg this is highkey impressive to me that u only found out now cuz pinching luke's cheeks is The Iconic Luke Interaction. as in, you can do that with him no matter what the outfit (even with his Serious Raven Suit that's available on the cn server, THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY AJHSVFJAS BIG BAD AGENT AND U CAN STILL PINCH HIS CHEEKS) and u cant do it with any of the other boys

but as they say, it's better late than never!!! i hope ur enjoying pinching his cheeks cuz i adore how he makes the CUTEST puppy eyes whenever it happens, i cannot resist no matter how Pleading Emoji he gets >:DDD

anyhoo, for the Daily Outfit (aka the default green jacket one), here are all the interactions!

Omg I just started playing tears of themesis and its a lot of fun! I like that you actually have to find the clues, and actually solve the crime I think that's interesting. Any tips for a newbie lol

wAAHH, hello and welcome to tot!! i hope you have a fun time playing :D (and yes, ur taste is Exquisite, luke is SO GOOD,,,I LOVE HIM SM,,,,,)

and i guess off the top of my head, i do have some tips!! feel free to take whichever u need and discard the ones that dont spark joy!

gameplay tips

do the daily and weekly tasks!: these give rewards each day/week that will help you in card leveling, overall player leveling, and collecting s-chips. sometimes events happen which add new tasks to do for certain rewards so like, basically whenever you see an Exclamation Point Icon anywhere, check it out! theres gonna be stuff to do and rewards to get from it

level up your cards!: if im remembering my own experience starting out, i recall that the debate power increase through the main story was a little bit steep in the beginning jHVKSJHDF. i used to get on by just fine with the EXP from debates itself leveling cards, but that quickly didnt give my deck enough juice. level em up with oracles so u can smoothly go thru the main story :D

take ur time exploring not just the story but also just the sheer amount of other stuff going on in the game: i was overwhelmed when i started, and i started on this game's Release. there was Less Stuff. idk how it must be for ppl coming in now, when theres More Stuff omg. but it's chill, take ur time, theres a bunch of neat stuff to discover

(idk how intuitive/already obvious these might already be, but when i started out i had no idea how these types of games worked so it took me a while to realize there were MORE STORIES JHSDJFH so i'll mention these tips too, aka tips i wish i knew in august of 2021, HAHA)

read card stories/content: every card you have that is not an R card (so the SSR, SR, and MR), has either a 6 part story in them to read or 2 audio messages for you to listen to and they are Wonderful. dont sweat it tho if u dont have a card and u wanna know its content, by this point, nearly everything is recorded on youtube so u can easily watch what u dont have!

play the boys' personal stories!: aside from the main story (which are the cases and investigations) each nxx boy has personal stories u can find by going to Ur Phone In The Game -> Click On Guy Of Choice -> Lower Right Corner.

if ur interested in nxx team plots outside of the main story, check out past events and their plots on yt!: the event plots are a Treasure Trove of interesting case stories And full ensemble cast interactions. i love this game the best tbh when i see the whole team interacting with each other, so i adore event plots. sadly, nearly all of the events that are done cannot be accessed anymore to newcomers in the game itself, but they can still be watched on yt. buuut thats just nearly all of the events which leads me to my next tip that rlly isnt a tip but simply just my personal recommendation as an intense enjoyer of this game---

download and play through the Mysteries of the Lost Gold event: the Lost Gold event originally ran through september of 2021, but it's been made available permanently as downloadable content in the game no matter when you start playing!! i highly recommend this event. it's by far still my favorite event in this whole game (everything from interesting plot/case to fun gameplay to delicious characterization, I REALLY LOVE LOST GOLD OK!! THIS IS A LOST GOLD STAN ZONE!!)

anyhoo, this event can be accessed by going to X-NOTE Story -> lower and rightmost button Event -> upper and rightmost button Past -> download Mysteries of the Lost Gold

really, i cannot recommend lost gold enough ajhfvjkahfa this is the One Thing i hope all players can experience it's just...I REALLY ADORE IT OKAY!!!

okay so i am now interested in tears of themis EXCLUSIVELY bc of your fics and how well written they are, so. how does one get into tears of themis.

hi, hi!!! this is such a joy to see, im so glad you enjoyed my fics :'D and read them wiTHOUT THE CONTEXT OF THE CANON OMG....this made me smile lots

the easiest and most direct way to get into tot is to donwload the game's app yourself and play through the story! tears of themis is available on play store and the app store

but if you dont wanna play it, a less direct way to get into tot is by watching playthroughs. theres a playthrough for basically frigging every story that happens in tot, because people in the world are lovely

that being said, theres a Lot of stories in tot, so i realize it might be overwhelming whether ur play it urself or watch playthrus.

so heres a list in Chronological Order of how every story rooouuughly happen in the timeline to play/watch thru

(i say roughly because timeline seems to be more of a suggestion in this game JHVAJHSFVAKSJH but heres how each story came out on global server, haha)

note on the legend ive made below:

bulletpoints marked with a "***" are events that had happened in the game prior to this current day. almost all of these are no longer accessible in the game on this day today, so even if you do the Play It Yourself option, the only way to see the event story and the card stories is by watching playthroughs of it

Hello! Do you know what the next event after Blizzardous Threads of Red is gonna be? And is there a way to find out the order of future events? Thank you in advance :D

hullo anon!!! i am not completely Sure what the next event after Blizzardous Threads of Red but my guess is that after BTR we'll get some card reruns and minigame events, and then the next card event will be the Butterfly Kisses MR Card Event for Valentine's Day season

i say guess because currently the only way to predict upcoming events for the global server is by checking what happened on the cn server at around the same time frame, last year. doing this has its caveats though, because it's been noted that the global server is kinda 'speeding up' in a sense, so it's not really a 1 to 1 "what happened in cn server january 2022 is gonna happen in global server january 2022" because sometimes some events come way earlier

for example,

Romantic Rail Getaway Part 1 happened in march 2021 for cn server, but global server got it in november 2021

Secrets of the Tomb happened in sept 2021 for cn server, but global server got it in april 2022

Dreams of Childhood happened in March 2022 for cn server, but global server got in october 2022

and most recently Artem's Blossom Personal Chapter 1 happened in feb 2022, but we got it in dec 2022

(note: there are way more events that we got earlier than expected, these were just the ones off the top of my head

all that being said though, there are some events that are "time-locked" and cant be sped up because they are required to happen at a specific date, so theyre easier to predict since they Need to happen at that time. this includes LI birthday events, anniversary events, new year events (since tot likes to have a Big event to commemorate chinese new year/lunar new year), and special days like valentine's or christmas or halloween and the such.

here’s a great excel sheet made by dailythemis on twitter that shows the calendar of past events in both the cn server and the global server. this is what i use to kinda make my own predictions, just switch through the sheet tabs and start shooting ur shot with guesses taking into account all the variables kjhvkJHVK.

but heres a summary of whats upcoming

after BTR (and btw theres gonna be a limited top-up Marius card for this event too, this was already announced in by tot eng in their event calendar for BTR, so watch out for that), some card reruns will probably happen

Butterfly Kisses MR Card Event in february for valentine's day

Vyn's Blossom Chapter 1 probably after that (actually now that i think about it, they could also put this right after BTR too if they dont wanna do reruns or a minigame)

Main Story Episode 8 probably after that

ive got the faintest hunch that theyre gonna release Cozy Couple's Getaway part 1 way earlier too, since CCG is kinda like RRG so they might keep with the tradition of bamboozling us there HAHA

hi anon! theres definitely more than a chance of a SOTT rerun, it's pretty much confirmed cuz the CN server got their SOTT card rerun on November 3, 2022 (along with the SOTT event being added as permanent DLC). this is announced in the tweet below

since CN server is roughly 1 year ahead of us, expect the global server's SOTT rerun to drop somewhere in November of 2023!!

unfortunately, yeah, this luke card is a limited event top up (as opposed to smthng like marius' ssr matching tattoos thats general p-points accrue-ing). so yep, it goes hand in hand with the bakerlon event and can only be acquired from the purchase points spent within that event period. aka: the most inhumane species of top up card 😭

on the bright side, theres other hot luke cards set to come soon for eng server!! his werewolf MR card set to drop at some point in october for halloween, and of course his 2nd bday ssr coming in december :D

zak, how do you find things like fanarts and other kinds of ship content for tot that's not mc x one of the boys? asking bc recently i got into marius x artem but aside from some fics on ao3, i can't never find things like fanarts or just posts about them. i feel like I'm looking in the wrong place? kajsjs but i only know of the tot tumblr fandom.. 😭😭

that being said, yea it is kinda difficult to be finding art and posts about any of the nxxboy ships. frankly, the only reason i can find stuff myself for marluke is cuz vjJKHVJKH I JUST (to some degree) KNOW OR KNOW OF EVERYBODY WHO SHIPS AND MAKES STUFF FOR MARLUKE HAHA. theres not very many of us, so it's easy for me to just follow Everybody whos ever made a marluke thing HJJKSF

one thing that can help tho for hunting art and content is through tags!!! i discovered a lot of great marluke arts here just by searching their ship tag #marluke or #mariluke (idk what divergent tagging evolution happened that marluke is more commonly used on tumb but on twt, it's primarily mariluke)

if im not mistaken, the common tag for marius/artem is #martem on twitter. sadly though, it doesnt seem to be the common tag on tumblr and idk what the martem shippers are using here DDD:

all of the nxxboy ships are very much rarepairs, in comparison to the other ships. there really arent going to be very many people, but the people who Do ship the ship are most likely gonna be extremely passionate about it. or at least, thats been my experience meeting and talking and making friends with other ppl who like marluke!!! small bunch, but very passionate. talking to the ppl around who ship the ship can both help u find more stuff of the ship and you might get a friend along the way too!

hi hi anon!! right now, the only way people make predictions on what's coming up next for global server is by checking what happened on the cn server at around the same time frame, last year. since, in general, we're 1 year behind the cn server and the events usually follow the order of how things happened in cn server (with a few deviations here and there, like RRG1 and SOTT) but with the timeline sped up

that being said, here's a great excel sheet made by dailythemis on twitter that shows the calendar of past events in both the cn server and the global server. so just switch through the sheets and look at the corresponding months to get a general gauge of what will happen (aka, whatever happened in cn server 2021 in september, for example, will happen in global server 2022 in august (to account for the speeding up)

that being said, here's two events whats Absolutely Definitely upcoming soon cuz theyve got Set Times where they have to drop anyway

vyn bday2 event in the latter half of september, im p sure this will start getting teasers/trailers the moment revisiting youth event is over

I know this might be a dumb question but what are those MR Cards I keep seeing in CN server?? Are they paid cards or like, seasonal limited cards? I'm so confused!

hi hi! dont worry, it's not a dumb question at all.

the most recent new MR cards with delicious foods in them are limited event cards commemorating the mid-autumn festival.

this event in particular, since it's a 4 MR cards all at once, follows a similar system to what we experienced during the Code of Flowers event global server got back in june:

certain tasks will give u a certain amount of a Special Thing

with enough of that Special Thing, you can flip a square on a bingo grid of a certain card u picked in the beginning

once the bingo grid is complete, u get the card! you can repeat this process with the other cards

this can only be done within the event period to get the card, so the paying comes in if u want more than just one of the cards in the roster. if im not mistaken, it should be possible to get One card f2p just by doing the daily tasks, but if u wanna collect them all, thats where the “pay for a whole lot More of the Special Thing” comes in

hi!! do you know where to access that free invitation we get from earning 3000 tokens in the anniversary event? i've looked but i can't find it anywhere

hello! i dont know what you mean by a free invitation at 3000 points (as far as i know, there are no invitations for this event at all), so im assuming you mean this free Night Beach background unlocked at 6000 points?

if this is what you mean, then i gotchu!!

this background can only be used when your currently displayed invitation is any of the Visit [Insert Boy Here] ones. yknow, the ones where u can pet them on homepage, these ones

the ones with the hand icons!! (sorry marius, u got cut off)

so first set whichever of those you like, and then once uve got them on homepage, click that same hand icon thatll now be in the lower left corner.

this will take you to something like the actual Visit function, but there will be no personal stories at the lower right edge. instead, the lower right edge will have these buttons

click the one nearest the top, the lil frame, and voila! there, you'll find the free Night Beach background :DDD and when u set it for this invite, ur home screen now looks like this

love it, i just dragged luke out in the middle of the night to a body of water <3......worded like that, it sounds like im gonna kill him, but the sound for this background is Very relaxing, i assure you. romantic, even, if ur the type to enjoy crickets and water ambient noises!
