Shows like Gushing Over Magical Girls present a "what if" scenario that people like me can use to re-examine how they grew up, and what things they wish they had learned at a younger age. Watching Utena's face flush with excitement as she discovers what turns her on feels extremely familiar to my own teenhood, and I wonder how differently things could have turned out if I'd been allowed to engage with and understand my own kinks back then like she does here. There's a difficult-to-explain sort of catharsis to it that can only be explored in fiction like this, and I think it's not only valid but extremely valuable to have this type of show for that reason.

i was going back and forth on how deep this message is in terms of the actual content of the manga cause yknow if they say stuff but don't back it up with consistent execution it means nothing

and i think the key here. is that Utena is a villain. she's quite literally the bad guy. she harasses tres magia for personal enjoyment because she's. the villain.

and the series always makes a point of emphasis when the feelings are mutual. for example, with utena torturing azul and both of them getting enjoyment out of it. or utena and kiwi getting ✨nasty✨, or whatever nemo and matama have going on

there is a distinction between "doing freaky stuff for personal pleasure" and "doing freaky stuff as an expression of love and intimacy"

there's also the fact utena tries to avoid going too far with anyone and gets upset when she hurts them, and when it ventures into genuine Bad Stuff TM, it's treated with an appropriate sense of horror and pain. which probably factors into this somehow

Ok guys i am beating my hater instinct with a stick again, the anime's pacing makes sense

#don't think about it in terms of ''oh this is chapter x and y and z'' but in terms of what happens and how it ties events together #so in this we've had a bit more of the growing tension within tres magia (which motivates Azul to do something about it on her own) #and we've established an enormeeta member/magia dynamic like episode 4 does with kiwi and kaoruko #and though i still object to having the ch 31 flashback here out of principle it builds the harukao relationship #AND creates expectation for Sayo's own flashback to when she joined haruka

Episode 7

i know i sound like a broken record but Mahou Ako is such a great show.

This episode in particular has such an interesting character study of both Azure and Utena because of their dynamic. Azure feels guilty about her perversion and doesnt know what to do about it. Frankly her pleasuring herself in private as indicated by the shower scene which she stops herself from doing wouldve been a healthy outlet for it.

But she does stop herself and tries to push through it without acknowledging that side of her which leads to it overwhelming her as she thinks she can no longer be useful as a magical girl

Utena on the other hand being motivated by the show she watched as a kid feels its a duty of a magical girl to never give up. Utena is fully open with her perversion and urges and yet seeing Azure in such a submissive state and willing to give up her identity for Utena she rightfully calls it out despite it being exactly what Utena would want but not under these circumstances.

She wants to dominate the Tres Magia but she still wants them to be themselves and be the ideal that she worshipped as a kid from that show.

theres some good stuff here about healthy outlets, not holding back who you are but also not letting it consume you to the point where you no longer are your true self.

It is very sweet that Utena recognized that this isnt healthy for Azure as it did not arrive organically but out of a form of self-loathing

Después de que los Weasley fuesen a recogerle en la casa de sus tíos, Harry y la familia de Ron, junto con Hermione y los Diggory, fueron a ver los partidos del Mundial de Quidditch. Durante la noche, después del Mundial, mientras todos disfrutaban la victoria de su equipo favorito, un gran caos se desató en el lugar. No se sabía cómo ni en qué momento habían logrado burlar la seguridad, pero magos y brujas encapuchados y con el rostro oculto comenzaron a atacar y a destruir los campamentos de los fanáticos, tomando presos, dejando muertos y heridos… Todo quedó en ruinas y en el cielo se hizo presente la Marca Tenebrosa. El señor Crouch despidió a su elfina Winky porque "pensó" que era ella, después de ser descubierta inconsciente junto a la varita usada para invocar la marca, aunque probablemente supiera que había sido su hijo.

Lo que no sabían es que ese ataque sólo era una distracción, mortífagos desconocidos y libres entre la población mágica se habían encargado de mantener a los aurores ocupados para llevar a cabo una emboscada a Azkaban y así liberar a sus compañeros y aliados, que llevaban presos demasiado tiempo, desde la caída del Señor Tenebroso.

Aún con los nervios provocados por lo sucedido durante el Mundial de Quidditch y las recientes noticias de la fuga de los presos de Azbakan, el curso en Hogwarts inició trayendo como sorpresas a un profesor nuevo, el profesor Alastor “Ojoloco” Moody, quien enseñaría Defensa Contra las Artes Oscuras; además de que la escuela sería sede de El Torneo de los Tres Magos, en el que podría participar cualquier alumno dispuesto a ponerse a prueba, siempre y cuando contase con diecisiete años.

El Ministerio, con la intención de no infundir el pánico entre la población mágica, ha anunciado que no hay nada que temer, que están haciendo todo lo que está al alcance de sus manos para capturar a los fugados de Azkaban y evitar otra tragedia como la del Mundial de Quidditch.

Mientras esperan el ya anunciado retorno del Señor Oscuro, los mortífagos aprovechan el tiempo para recabar información, víctimas y reagruparse con viejos compañeros en busca de sus rivales.

El caos no ha hecho más que empezar, ¿sucumbirá el mundo mágico ante el Señor Oscuro y sus seguidores o los héroes conseguirán derrotarlos? ¿Cuántas desgracias tendrán que pasar antes de que un bando se posicione por encima del otro? ¿Serás tú uno de esos héroes... o lucharás en pos de un mundo solo para sangres pura?
