El jueves es el día del amor y la amistad is translated in my book as Tuesday is St. Valentine’s Day. However, I go on Spanishdict and it translates as “the day of love and friendship” and that Valentine’s day is “el Día de San Valentín” instead.

Can you explain the differences in translations here?

It's a regional issue - El Día del Amor y la Amistad is more common in Central America as the name of the holiday

Depending on what country you're talking about, it could be San Valentín, El Día de los Enamorados (Lovers' Day), or El Día del Amor y la Amistad (Day of Love and Friendship)

In general if you saw one you'd know exactly what they were talking about, but English only has the one holiday

Essentially they celebrate the same thing [kinda] so in English we most readily understand "Valentine's Day", so it becomes more of a localization versus a direct translation

Note: Not all countries celebrate it the exact same way and Colombia celebrates it in September, more on that later

The US, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, sometimes Puerto Rico is more San Valentín

Some countries recognize two or all of them at least according to Wikipedia like it says all are recognized in Costa Rica - no idea if that's actually true. The Caribbean in general tends to recognize and understand many different versions of things I think because of so much influence coming from every direction of the Spanish-speaking world

This is because a group of merchants proposed moving it and it's a very long story but it's interesting; so since the late 1960s it's been in September (I think the 3rd Saturday of September?) while most of the world celebrates it in February

In many official things and things translated from English, it's often (El Día de) San Valentín especially in dubbing, but everyone kind of understands what you're talking about regardless. The words and customs are understood by pretty much everyone, but it becomes a regional quirk of "localization" in some cases

The head of a Hamas-cheering radical activist group was among the 50 protesters arrested when cops thwarted unruly demonstrations in Manhattan and cleared out an anti-Israel encampment at the Fashion Institute of Technology overnight, The Post has learned.

Manolo De Los Santos, 35, was spotted being cuffed and hauled away by two NYPD officers in riot helmets as protesters marched through the streets towards the West 27th Street campus on Tuesday evening.

A shouting De Los Santos, who had a Palestinian scarf draped around his neck, was slapped with a summons for disorderly conduct after being nabbed in the vicinity of West 14th Street.

Police started monitoring the FIT encampment roughly two hours before they eventually swooped in and arrested more than two dozen.

Cops moved in roughly 10 minutes after warning those who failed to vacate the Chelsea campus that they would be charged with trespassing.

In total, police cuffed 50 protesters during Tuesday’s unrest, law enforcement sources said.

De Los Santos is the leader of the Midtown-based nonprofit The People’s Forum (TPF) that urged protesters at Columbia University to channel the deadly Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 before they violently stormed Hamilton Hall last week.

His TPF group blasted out video of his arrest on social media, urging followers to gather at the NYPD’s headquarters to protest his and others’ detainments.

“Multiple leaders of the ALL OUT FOR RAFAH march in NYC were arrested by the NYPD while they led over a thousand pro-Palestine demonstrators in the streets of Manhattan,” the group wrote on X.

“We will not stand for the intimidation of the NYPD. The more they try to silence us the louder we will be! Head to jail support at 1 Police Plaza NOW!”

De Los Santos, who spent “years” in the socialist haven of Cuba, has made a career as an agitator spurring protests on the streets of the Big Apple.

As TPF’s executive director and de facto mouthpiece, De Los Santos has repeatedly spouted anti-Israel rhetoric of late – including hailing Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack as “heroic” and calling for Israel to be “erased from history.”

His encounter with cops during the FIT encampment bust is just his latest brush with the law.

De Los Santos was among the 10 protest leaders cops busted on Jan. 27 when hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrators descended on Manhattan — partially blocking the Brooklyn Bridge and attempting to “flood” JFK Airport in Queens.

El número de galerías de artes que participará en la próxima edición aumenta hasta las 19

LAVAC, la Asociación de Galerías de Arte Contemporáneo de la Comunidad Valenciana, cuenta este año con tres nuevas incorporaciones que enriquecen el panorama artístico de la Comunitat, formando así un conjunto de 19 espacios expositivos que se podrán visitar durante toda una semana: desde el viernes 22 de septiembre, día en el que se celebra la tradicional apertura de las galerías, hasta el viernes siguiente, día 29 en el que concluye el evento tras la entrega del premio Cervezas Alhambra.

La marca cervecera se suma por cuarto año consecutivo a Abierto València otorgando un premio con el objetivo de reconocer, difundir y potenciar las creaciones de los artistas emergentes y de las galerías que los acogen, para acercarlas a un público más amplio contribuyendo a la revalorización de las obras y a la creación contemporánea.

The Indians At A Glance- The Indians have fallen off the map in August with an (8-15) record. The bullpen owns a 3.53 ERA, which is fifth-best in MLB. Emmanuel Clase has been better with a 3.12 ERA in August. Enyel De Los Santos, Eli Morgan, and Trevor Stephan have become solid righty options out of the bullpen.

The Twins At A Glance- The Twins rebounded after a tough few days in Milwaukee with three wins over the Rangers. They sit six games over the Indians for first place and a series win or sweep would almost put this divisional race on ice. Donovan Solano is on fire with a .339 average in August. Ryan Jeffers has five homers and fourteen knocked in this month. Max Kepler has been hot with six homers and eleven RBI. The Twins are hitting .254 in the month of August. The team might be getting healthier. Byron Buxton will run the bases on Monday and take live at-bats in batting practice before deciding on a rehab assignment. Alex Kirilloff could begin a rehab assignment later this week. Jorge Alcala will throw a simulated game on Tuesday. Nick Gordon was shagging flyballs during batting practice on Friday. Pablo Lopez has been very good with a 1.80 ERA in four August starts. Sonny Gray has a 2.48 ERA this month. The bullpen has been shaky lately and did the job on Sunday.

What To Watch For- The Indians are (4-3) against the Twins in 2023. The Tribe won two of three in Cleveland in May then split a four-game series in early-June at Target Field. These six games are huge for the Indians with five weeks left in the season. Kenta Maeda is (3-1) with a 2.51 ERA in five starts against the Indians. Pablo Lopez is (1-0) with a 4.50 ERA in two stats versus Cleveland. Xzavion Curry has one career inning against the Twins, Gavin Williams has never faced the Twins, and Tanner Bibee allowed three runs over five innings on June 1st against the Twins. Sonny Gray is (6-5) with a 3.66 ERA in seventeen starts against the Indians. This next week of games could determine the American League Central. Unless, the Indians win both series then the Twins can take a stranglehold on the division.
