okay so! I have been casually browsing some twd tiktoks in my free time to stave off the need to go look up fanfic and I have seen so, so many folks saying something to the effect of “oh well, if you look at all of this (”this” being s6-s7) from Negan’s perspective actually they’re fine and rick + co are in the wrong” and you know??? I have never seen the show before! I was watching with an open mind and thinking “oh well, I know that main characters aren’t always in the right, let me keep an eye on this!” but YOU KNOW WHAT
HAVING JUST FINISHED THE FIRST HALF OF S7E1
ABSOLUTELY NOT
Listen - LISTEN
Negan’s actions are wholly and totally reprehensible from every angle I can even begin to think of.
Like okay the big argument I see batted around is that Rick was in the wrong because they killed Negan’s men with seemingly no provocation. That if Negan was the main character, we would be on his side because Rick shot first in this instance
I think this argument is two dimensional and ignores a lot of legwork s6 does to assure the audience that in no way is Negan the “good guy” - hell, he isn’t even A good guy
Think back to this initial raid of the building with the satellite on it - there was, if my memory serves, an entire wall of pictures of folks with their heads beat in!! Just, hung up as decor! These are people who were holding a generally innocent man hostage to extort resources out of a community who sorely needed them! They were seemingly willingly participating in this fucked up little extortion ring, landlording their way through this post apocalypse economy and making life absolute hell for everyone in the process. Like, if you are trying to get yourself on the moral highground here because you feel that negan was only reacting to being unfairly provoked by rick you have to be ignoring an awful lot of the surrounding details of this whole encounter!!!
and this isn’t even getting into all the suspicious stuff I know about negan and his shitty relationship with the concept of consent that I’ve gathered from hearsay
regardless, there is literally no excuse for beating two men to death in front of their friends and family, psychologically torturing a whole group of people, and leading a campaign of terror against so many different folks for.... shits and giggles? I cannot think of any good reason to do literally any of this besides just pure nastiness - it goes even beyond base extortion, it is a legitimate reign of terror
not sure what could possibly happen later in the show that has so many folks losing their minds and chomping at the bit to be negan apologists but that’s a fat no from me!
especially in a show where there are so many diverse and strong characters to get behind? You pick WHO? the abusive shitty murderer? Yeah get the fuck out

Rewatching The Walking Dead for the third time and just got to end of season 6/beginning of season 7 and I just want to throw out there that it is 110% ok to skip episode 1 of season 7. Just skip over it. I’ve watched that episode once, I know what happens, the images seared permanently into my soul, I do not ever need to watch it again. But I also wish I’d just skipped it to begin with. It’s not that it’s a bad episode, it is an utterly perfect piece of story telling, it’s just a perfectly told horror story. It’s so perfectly told that it is harder to get through than the book 1984 and I wanted to throw that goddamn book across my room so many times when I read it, it fucking pissed me off so much, the brutal inevitable unfairness of it made me so very, very angry. Episode 1 of season 7 makes me even angrier. So it that is where you have gotten stuck watching TWD, if you just cannot get past that episode, I’m here to tell you that you can, in fact, jump to episode 2 and watch from there. And if you just HAVE to know what happens in ep1 you can read a synopsis, just Google it. Life is too brutal to carry unnecessary horrors inside our skulls.

general TWD timeline for Naomi by episode/arc under cut - because just too damn long
first possible introduction during s6e9 (No Way Out) - comes in secretly under the horde’s notice (yay vampire) and helps Team Family drive back the walkers once Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha return from first encountering Saviors. Although not a definite spy for the Saviors, Naomi keeps an eye on the Alexandrians as they start reaching out to Hilltop and find out the state of things, with occasional reports to Negan so he’s aware of their situation.
s6e11 (Knots Untie) - If Naomi’s with Rick and Co when first arriving at Hilltop, she will try to stop the attempt on Gregory’s life. She will leave Alexandria for a spell to coordinate with Negan to stand down until Naomi knows what Team Family intend and whether they can be useful for the Saviors - especially since about all of them are fighters.
s6e12/13 (Not Tomorrow Yet/The Same Boat) - Naomi gives support to Team Fam’s raid on the Savior outpost, but when Maggie and Carol are captured Naomi steps in as part of the negotiating. Naomi lies about her involvement with the Saviors to the group. Their belief of the lie at mun’s discretion
s6e16/s7e1 (Last Day on Earth/The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be) - Naomi is 100% not present for Negan’s introduction to Team Fam. This is both to preserve her fragile cover in Alexandria and to keep away from the inevitable bloodbath that comes out of Negan’s first introductions.
s7e3 (The Cell) - Of course. This is where Naomi's connection to the Saviors becomes known to Daryl (making him the first Alexandrian who knows for certain where she seems to stand). Great starting point for early introductions for Naomi within the Saviors as well as Daryl. Separate headcanon post will likely go up as to her reactions to Daryl's torture and what she does to try and help him.
s7e4 (Service) - Naomi is coerced by Negan into going to Alexandria's first 'donation' to the Saviors. Everyone else learns of Naomi's loyalties. Naomi is sad.
s7e7/s7e8 (Sing Me a Song/Hearts Still Beating) - When Carl jumps out of the truck from Hilltop, Naomi assigns herself as Carl’s bodyguard for his time in the Sanctuary. If Carl starts making accusations of Naomi’s subterfuge, her reaction depends on whether Negan is present or not. If Negan’s not present, Naomi will inform Carl she’s been looking for something to trigger the Saviors to change and that she thinks Rick and the rest of Alexandria are that catalyst. Naomi goes with Carl and Negan back to Alexandria to await Rick’s return in hopes of her looking out for Carl acts as a personal peace offering between herself and Rick. Option of Naomi taking Rosita’s bullet rather than Lucille, thus revealing to all her not-quite-regular nature.
ALTERNATE: Negan doesn’t allow Naomi to go to Alexandria (due to her apparent closeness to the Alexandrians), but his absence from the Sanctuary lets Naomi work to get Daryl out and going with him. This has her in Hilltop when Team Fam reunite, and at partner discretion she can be adopted into the group or shot and left for dead (the latter Naomi will sleep off and allow her to return to the Saviors)
s7e11 (Hostiles and Calamities) - With Sherry’s disappearance, Naomi goes with Dwight in searching for her. However, the opportunity to be away from Negan gives Naomi a chance for Naomi to be honest with Dwight - about her concerns and fears regarding the Saviors. Although she offers to cover for Dwight to escape if that’s his wish, Naomi suggests they work together in covering for Sherry’s escape and, if needed, cover for each other if Negan begins to suspect they’re less than loyal.
s7e15 (Something They Need) - FUCK OFF FROM SASHA RAPEY DAVIE. While Negan handles him, Naomi keeps Sasha under close watch outside her cell. Naomi also provides cover for Dwight when he goes to Alexandria to meet with Rick and the rest.
s7e16 (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life) - Naomi is present outside the gates of Alexandria when the Savior War begins, with dead-alive Sasha emerging from the casket and everything going downhill from there. Although Naomi is well-armed (two revolvers and a combat knife), she avoids as much of the fighting as possible, minimizing her chances of going into a blood frenzy. When the reinforcements from the Kingdom and Hilltop arrive, Naomi books it into the wilds at top speed.
s8 - After Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom pen up the majority of the Saviors in the Sanctuary, Naomi knows that most of the Saviors’ power is broken. However, leaving everyone in there to die - especially the workers and the people that are being caught in the crossfire - makes her uncomfortable. She emerges from hiding to ease through the herd and make it inside the Sanctuary, beginning to secretly escort workers and noncombatants out through any means she can find (mostly by reluctantly covering them in walker ichor and escorting them through). When the siege is broken and the final battle takes shape, Naomi keeps to the rear of the fighting (again, avoiding blood frenzy). The duel brings Naomi back to the front, and when Negan’s neck is cut Naomi is among the first to try and give him medical attention. After Negan is taken to Alexandria, Naomi returns to the battlefield and recovers Lucille.
s9 pre-timeskip - Naomi drifts between the communities, though she keeps mostly to the wilds and the Sanctuary. She comes to Alexandria on occasion to check on Negan, knowing she is the only ex-Savior allowed to see him. Naomi does provide her own kind of support to the bridge construction, though when construction begins to falter Naomi helps rescue Aaron. She uses her actions to petition for her officially joining Alexandria.
s9 post-timeskip - If Naomi was allowed into Alexandria, her primary role is as Negan’s therapist in conjunction with Father Gabriel. Naomi also treats both Judith and Gracie near like her own children, even teaching them Spanish. Naomi speaks in support of bringing in the newcomers, or at least letting them prove themselves. She keeps Lucille hidden inside a mailing tube for the day she’ll be needed - which comes when Naomi finds Negan out of his cell.

the guilt
Daryl is gna be so overcome with guilt right now.
Glenn was out there because of him. Because he went off to find Dwight because he felt guilty about Denise.
Then he tries to fight, to stand up because of Abraham, and Glenn gets his skull smashed in, in front of him, in front of Maggie, in front of everyone.
He’s then taken away from the group, so there’s no Rick, no Carol, no anyone to try and bring him out of this guilt.
I just hope it doesn’t fester and he pulls away.
