For one, I cannot possibly reflect on my lived experience of the word “emo” without acknowledging that the more comfortable I became in my own skin over time, the less discomfort I felt over being associated with a word that once connoted weakness and sentimentalism. I spent a great deal of time in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s basically terrified of being “found out” as gay, and while this fear was not unfounded — there were hardcore kids being arrested for murdering a gay man in New York City as recently as the summer of 1990 — it may have been somewhat misplaced. Being vulnerable or in touch with your full range of emotions isn’t “gay” as much as it’s human. The closet denied me of my total humanity in that way, and it has almost become my life’s work to reverse the damage I caused to others and myself by living that way. Those things that people now identify as “emo” from my work in the ‘90s, I see as my coming out. A slow, but meaningful coming out. Texas is the Reason and Anti-Matter were projects that did an inordinate amount of the heavy lifting in helping me accept myself for who I was, and over the years, I’ve heard time and again that they’ve also played a direct part in giving other hardcore kids the permission they felt they needed to become fuller versions of their own unique selves. If that’s called “emo” now, then I want to continue to be a part of that.

I keeping getting this Danny Phantom au idea that's, like, Danny and Wes, but Lois and Clark from Superman. (I'm thinking about the 1978 movie for specifics if it matters.) The basis for the au is that Danny infiltrates the ranks of the local news reporters to steer away the media coverage on him because it's becoming a threat to his civilian life. In the process he becomes Wes's assistant, but Wes heavily dislikes him and tries to make him leave. They go through a series of wacky hijinks as Danny tries to keep his identity a secret, and Wes eventualy realizes who Danny is and falls in love, but doesn't tell him about either. Some bs happens, major conflict, the BEANS are SPILLED! A little will they won't they, they kiss and live happily ever after, move in, whatever couples do, I've never been in love. In fiction it sounds great, but irl sounds like a hassle. Someone please tell me I'm not being delusional on this. I want to put this on paper, but I'm so terrible at writing, idk maybe I'll take a crack at it. Fanfic authors, it's fair game, but you HAVE to @ me or something I gotta know what you come up with. I have a reach smaller than a pin tack, but a man can dream.

I think trying to get people to stop using AI is gonna be hard. Like, that ship has sailed. (I don’t mean stop and give up, though. It’ll just be hard.)

But if people are going to continue using AI, especially for images, they could at least own up to it and quit trying to pass off AI images as photos or human-made artwork. Just admit it and stop posting AI images from Pinterest (or whatever) without acknowledging it's AI. Just fuckin tag it. Just ID it. It’s not hard.
