“Don’t Speak Their Names” - Shrimpshipping fic Chapter 17
This chapter on AO3 can be found here.
Chapter 17 - Proud Daughter
“Wow, Rex, you look like you went on quite the shopping trip!” Ptera observed as her son got in the back seat of the car with Weevil.
“I bought all my school supplies.” Rex sheepishly revealed his debit card. “I hope you don’t mind.”
“Quite the contrary.” Ptera ruffled Rex’s hair. “You’re coming to class prepared. I’m so proud of you, mi hijo. ”
“Hehe… Thanks.”
Ptera noticed the bag with the fetal doppler. “Oh? What’s that?
“I saw a doctor on campus today.” Rex was careful not to mention a word about Spinos. “And no, it didn’t cost me a dime. Bet you didn’t know that healthcare is free for all students, whether it’s at the hospital or at the university.”
Amber noticed that the back seat was fairly full, and elected to take the front seat. “Um… Hello, ma’am.”
“Who’s this, Rex? A new friend of yours?” Ptera asked as the car took off.
“Yeah. Her name’s Amber… Say, Amber, I just realized something. You never told us your surname or your middle name.”
“That’s because I don’t have either one. Believe it or not, there are people in the world who don’t.”
“Is that so? Well, I learn something new every day.”
“That’s not hard for you, dino brain.” Weevil laughed.
“Speaking of which, Mom… The reason I went to the doctor was to get an ultrasound of my baby. You’re going to have a happy, healthy granddaughter!”
“You should name her after me, haha! I hope she gets my wild purple hair and personality.” Ptera invited Amber into the house. “Adelaide and your mama just came home from a long shift at work, so don’t wake them up until it’s time for dinner.”
“Ma’am, can I help?” Amber offered as she retrieved a satchel from her handbag. “I mean, I’ll admit I’m not the best cook around, but… I know how to cook bee larvae.”
“Say whaaat? In that case, knock yourself out!” Weevil happily consented.
“Y-Yes, well… Go right ahead.” This notion creeped Ptera out a little bit.
“Now I can just get right into studying, without worrying about looking for my favourite food.” Weevil laid down on the sofa with a cushion under his head. As usual, Rex turned it to one of his favourite channels, the Discovery Channel. Weevil paid the T.V. no heed as he began to study, propping his legs on a loveseat. “Which, by the way, I haven’t been able to find in a while. Where ever did you find it, Amber?”
“Oh, just… Just looking around.” Amber whistled as she and Ptera cooked. While she left the skillet on, she began to prepare salad, as that was the only other thing she knew how to make. “My father actually owns a well-off apiary and is an avid lover of insects. He’s the reason why I’m an insect duelist. I also have some of our honey with me, if you want some.”
“So you are rich!” Rex grumbled. Having little desire to study, he pulled out his laptop and switched the T.V. to the news. “That explains why you’re such a smartass.”
“I’d love to meet this fellow insect duelist,” Weevil mused. “And what better way to introduce ourselves than through Duel Monsters?”
“Haha…” Amber gave a halfhearted chuckle. Dinner was ready, and she offered Weevil a small bowl of fried bee larvae. “I’m sure of that…”
A reporter from the T.V. put this conversation on hold. “We just received breaking news that monsters have been spotted in various parts of Domino City and around the world. Sightings have not been prevalent, but said monsters have caused wreckage in several small towns and isolated areas. We will keep you posted on these latest monster attacks.”
“Oh great, this again?” Rex facepalmed as he recalled the mess that the Orichalcos caused. “As if one or two monster attacks weren’t enough…”
“What do you mean, ‘again?’” Ptera raised an eyebrow.
“Uh… Forget you heard that.” Rex had never told his parents about said Orichalcos mess or the fairly recent Red-Eyes Black Dragon attack. Or about his shapeshifting abilities, for that matter. And forget about the time travelling and KC Grand Tournament! Rex wasn’t thankful that, unlike Weevil, he had no ability to bullshit. “Just… uh… Whoa! What was that?”
Rex could hear a loud sound; though it was in the distance, its source was strong enough to shake the ground and wake up Adelaide and Tricera.
“Oh my gods, could it be an earthquake?” Tricera worried.
“No, an earthquake would be more consistent than that,” Adelaide answered. “But hust in case, I’ll call the police and report it.”
“Then… Then maybe the monsters from the news are real!” Ptera turned the burner off and approached her son. “Rex. You know something that the rest of us don’t, don’t you?”
“Mom…” I suppose there’s no hiding it now. “You’re not going to believe this, but I-” A knocking from the front door prevented Rex from speaking further. “I’ll get that.”
“Who could be knocking at our door at a time like this?” Ptera wondered. “I hope none of you ordered pizza or something.”
“Maybe it’s the press,” Adelaide suggested. “They could be here to ask us about monster sightings.”
“...Wait.” Tricera squinted at the person who knocked on the door. “That’s-”
“Dad!” Rex was stunned to see Spinos at the door. “What are you doing here?”
“You…” Tricera marched to the door. “You fucking bastard! How dare you show your ugly ass face at MY house!”
“W-Wait!” Spinos couldn’t stop the tall, strong Tricera from seizing him by the collar and punching his face.
“How the hell did you even find us?” Ptera asked. “You’ve been stalking us, haven’t you?”
“P-Ptera…”
“ ¡Vete al diabolo, puta madre! ” Ptera clocked Spinos really hard on the other cheek.
“Please, Ptera, there is no time!” Spinos disregarded the stings from the punches on both sides of his cheeks. “There are monsters coming this way!”
“And you expect me to believe you?” Ptera thundered. “If I couldn’t trust you 20 years ago, how do you expect me to trust you now?”
“Mrs. Raptor, he’s not lying!” Amber pointed to the sky from which several flying monsters came. “Look!”
“Oh, gods…” Ptera watched as the monsters shot lasers that destroyed nearby homes. “They’re going to destroy my house that I’ve worked so hard to save up for!”
The monsters… Weevil trembled as he heard the horrified screams of the unfortunate people who lost their homes - and would soon lose their lives, if he didn’t do something about it.
“Weeves?” Rex knelt down to Weevil’s eye level. “What’s wrong?”
“Nobody can save these people… except me…” The ground underneath Weevil began to quake. His heart raced uncontrollably fast, and a red-and-purple aura emanated from it.
“Weeves, snap out of it!” Rex seized Weevil’s shoulders as the bug duelist fell deeper into his trance.
“Leave me alone!” Weevil shoved Rex off of him. He hadn’t fully shifted since last year’s Halloween Tournament, but was fully prepared to do it to save his boyfriend’s home. “You guys need to stay behind!”
“Weevil, don’t do it!” Ptera cried. “You can’t face them all by yourself!”
“...Actually, Mom, he can.” Rex watched as once again, Weevil transformed into Earthbound God Uru. Only this time, rather than causing harmless mischief, Weevil had every intent to kill any monster who would dare oppose him. Just the presence of his spider form, looming over his enemies larger than even KaibaCorp Tower, intimidated foe and friend alike.
“M-Master Weevil!” Adelaide couldn’t believe it. “What is happening to you?”
“Leave my home alone, you bastards!” Weevil shot a string of spider webs at the enemies who attacked him.
“Gaaah!” Two of the enemies fell to their deaths.
“He’s… something else, isn’t he?” Spinos observed.
“You know it…” Rex could only sit there and watch his boyfriend wreck havoc on his enemies, and hope that Weevil wouldn’t completely lose his mind out there.
“Wait, where’s Amber?” Tricera asked after a brief look in the house. “She’s gone!”
“I didn’t see her in the backyard, either!” spoke Ptera.
“Oh… Oh, no…” Rex’s good mood faded. “Did she get captured?”
The apparent leader of these enemies, Cyber Dragon Infinity, answered, “No, but I’m about to capture your precious little boyfriend! Who, by the way, isn’t looking so good over there.”
“It’s… happening again…” Weevil stared at the blood on his spider legs, and the blood he shed throughout the concrete. “I… have killed someone… again…”
“Well, why don’t we put you out of your misery, eh?” Cyber Dragon Infinity ordered his underling, an Armored Bee, “Activate your special ability!”
“With pleasure!” The Armored Bee rushed at Weevil full-speed, shouting, “Poison Stinger!”
“Ah… I feel… weak…” Weevil passed out and shifted to human form.
“Hah!” Cyber Dragon Infinity looked down upon Rex and his family. “Some ‘almighty, powerful Earthbound God,’ huh?”
Rex stepped forward, and already he half-shifted. “I’ll show you yet…”
“What is the meaning of this?” Cyber Dragon Infinity cackled as Rex transformed. “Do you, the puny Creepy Coney, honestly think that you can take down a monster as strong as I? By yourself? Hah! Your brain must be smaller than that of an actual rabbit!”
“Shut up!” Rex charged, only to be blown back rather easily by the Armored Bee and forced to revert forms. “O-Ow!!” he cried in pain while rubbing his belly.
“Rex!” Ptera knelt to her son’s side and cried. “You fucking idiot! Why did you do that?”
“Now that Uru is out of my way, there’s nothing standing in between your ruddy home and I! Die, the lot of you!”
Cyber Dragon Infinity couldn’t even begin to charge his attack, when out of nowhere, a shapeshifter with white-and-pink wings flew onto the scene. “You will do no such thing!” she declared as she shot an arrow at the Armored Bee, killing it instantly.
Rex already knew who this shapeshifter was. “Amber! There you are!”
“Leave my family alone!” Amber continued to shoot arrows at Cyber Dragon Infinity.
“You… You are…” Cyber Dragon Infinity was truly scared, yet tried to fend off Amber with attacks of his own - but not without sustaining severe injuries himself. “Pah! I don’t give two figs who you are! You’re severely outnumbered! Here, why don’t I give you a fresh reminder of that?” The dragon shot a quick beam of light, nicking Amber’s wings.
“Yeooooow!” Amber retracted her wings as she fell back to the ground. Though she was too weak to even half-shift, that didn’t stop her from pursuing Cyber Dragon Infinity. “Give Weevil back this instant!”
“Hmm… How about no? I’m not going to waste the little energy I have left on a monster that is clearly stronger than me. You get to keep your heads and your home for today! Be thankful!”
And with that, Cyber Dragon Infinity flew off with Weevil in tow.
“Tch!” Amber turned her attention to Rex. “Why, oh gods, why, Rex? Why did you attack an enemy that is clearly stronger than you?”
“That’s just the Raptor way, haha…” Rex had strength to stand up by himself. “...Wait. Amber? Is that you?”
Amber now had long mint-green hair with lavender sideburns and bowl-cut bangs. Her pupils were small and indigo. Rex didn’t think it was possible, but she looked even more beautiful than ever before. “It, um… seems my wig and contacts came off during that fight.”
“Amber…” Rex walked up to Amber to get a better look at her face. “Who are you, really?”
“I have lied to you all this time, Rex… Forgive me.” Amber calmed down a little before she began to explain herself. “So you know how you time travelled to the past with the pharaoh? I have done the same thing… I come from the future - a ruined future. I’m here to prevent that future from happening.”
“Uh-huh.” After all he had been through with Atem and Kaiba, Rex believed every word Amber said. Still, he found it curious that people could travel from the future. He thought that Amber would have had it all over there - the best technology, the toughest opponents, and the strongest cards. If she wanted to escape that, then something truly messed up must have happened.
“Everyone I know from that future is dead… My kid brother… My boyfriend… Even my mother!” Amber teared up. “Everyone I knew! They… They all died trying to protect me!”
“Amber…” Rex rubbed Amber’s back. “I’m sorry. I can’t say I know what you’re going through, but… I really am sorry.”
“But now… I can see you again… You’re alive, Papa!”
Rex’s eyes opened wide. “What did you just call me?”
“I’m not just Amber… I’m Ambrosia Camellia Ptera Raptor, the proud daughter of Weevil and Rex Raptor.” Amber lightly touched Rex’s baby bump. “I’m your daughter from the future!”
“So… that explains why you know about Mom, and about shapeshifters…” Rex began to cry too. “Forgive me, my daughter… You deserved better from me than one bow and a world of troubles… I’m sorry.”
Amber could finally release her emotions that she kept bottled up since her mother’s death. “Papa! Oh my gods, Papa…” she cried loudly into Rex’s chest. “I… I never thought that I could hug you again… You’re alive and breathing! I can’t… I can’t believe it!”
“Shh… I’m here, Amber…” Rex ran his fingers through his future daughter’s hair and wiped away some of her tears.
“You’re… breathing…” Amber held her ear to Rex’s chest to hear his heart beating. “And… you’re alive… This is… Oh, my gods… I’m sorry, I’m just so happy right now.”
“There, there…” Rex smiled while he cried. “We’re going to save your father, too. Or… Hold on a second.”
“Yes?” Amber stopped crying and looked at Rex curiously.
“ Weevil is the father, right?”
“Uh-huh. That would make you my mother.”
“I knew it…” Rex shook his head. “I wonder if I’m going to bottom for him again. Not that I would mind that…”
“Come on, Papa, there’s no need to be embarrassed about it!” Amber laughed and poked Rex’s cheek.
Still feeling confused about everything that had happened, Ptera spoke up. “So… that makes you my granddaughter, doesn’t it? You’re the little baby Rex is carrying.”
“That’s right.”
“First this time travelling, then this whole shapeshifter thing…” Spinos spoke. “I have made many discoveries as a paleontologist, but this one really takes the cake.”
“Why are you still here, scumbag?” Ptera growled.
“Please, Grandma…” Amber begged. “I know what Grandpa did was unforgivable, but in my future, he died protecting both you and me. I ask that you give him a chance.”
“I ask the same,” Rex concurred. “It was Dad who told me about the doctor, and if it wasn’t for him, I would have no idea how to care for my daughter… for baby Amber.”
“Hmph!” Ptera still wasn’t wholly comfortable with this idea. “Fine. Since we’re both interested in Rex’s safety, I’ll cooperate with you. But do not expect to ever become friends with me. EVER.”
“Thank you so much, Ptera… No matter how long it takes, I’ll do what I can to earn your trust once again.”
“So what do we do now?” Tricera questioned. “Weevil has been kidnapped, and there are monsters roaming the city… We’ve got quite a matter on our hands.”
“I know of a club who can help stop this mess,” replied Amber. “But I ask anyone who’s not a shifter to stay behind, for your own safety.”
“No!” Adelaide refused. “After all Master Weevil has done for me, I can’t just leave him alone, suffering in gods know where… I’m coming, too!”
“Weevil is part of my family, too,” Ptera declared. “We’re all in this together.”
“And I’m sure this is a really good reason to call off of work,” Tricera added. “It’s times like these that remind me why I’m thankful to be a reputable employee.”
“Nana…”
“It feels a bit weird being called that, I gotta say.”
“Well, what I gotta say is how damned proud I am that you’re named after me!” Ptera laughed. “I mean, I wish you took my given name, but I guess I’ll settle for middle name.”
“Hahaha!” Amber already began to walk in the direction of the university. “Well, what are we waiting for? I wanna go save Daddy!”
“Wait, Amber, before we go…”
“Yes, Papa?”
Rex pulled out his flip phone. “Let’s meet at the café first. If things are as serious as you say, then we need all the help we can get.”

The Firebending Masters
I just couldn't bring myself to start watching this episode. Before i was like "yesss, bring me all the awkwardness" but then i was like "oh fuck oh shit no i'm a dumb dumbass that can't handle awkwardness and embarrassment well". Luckily Zuko trying to interacting with the rest wasn't that bad. But, he really don't know how to interact, huh? Zuko, baby, just... chill a little. Ya know, work on your upbeat attitude. xD
Let's be honest, those eastern dragons look just weird with wings. How their long bodies even keep up? Ok, i guess that since only sky bisons are the only animal airbenders the dragons can't also fly just like that because of reasons. But still.
So, they looked a bit on a pretty, rainbow fire and we're like "ah yes we understand". Good for you boys. I do not get it at all. How do people uderstand things just by looking at them?
They have a one big fire that's burning for thousands of years. So, even at the beginning firebenders we're extra.
I didn't metion it earlier but why badger moles are so frikin big? Moles are really tiny, seriously, they're tinier that you would expect. And badgers are... average, i guess? There's nothing about these animnals that says "put togehter = elephant size".
Zuko is there for a day and a half, trying no more to murder everyone, and Sokka is immediately ready to mess up with him. Bless this boy.
Tumblr media
The Boiling Rock, Part 1
Ok, honestly, Boiling Rock is kind of a stupid name. But now i learned that it's a literal boiling rock. A big rock in the middle of a boiling lake. In a volcano of course, because that's just how the fire nation is rolling. That's just funny.
They stole a whole fridge for people and no one noticed. Yeah, let's say it, these guard are not, hmmm... to not to be too rude... not very good at their job.  But i also don't get how this whole chunk of a metal don't get incredibly hot in this lake. Did i miss something? ??? And later no one was able to tell that this very suspiciously behaving teenager that just showed up a few days ago is a mole. Maybe that's just how fire guards works? With tennage interns, or something. Because why not. Or maybe Sokka is just that genius master of disguise.
They separated Hakoda and Bato. ):
I don't know why but Mais uncle design is... Idk what it is, but there's something about him that dosen't seem right. I look at him and... I Just Don't Know. Something Wrong. So... meaty?
Sokka is fully aware that even when he is planning everything out, the results are not necessarily good. Zuko at leat accepted that he's a dumbass that is doing things without thinking, but it looks like he's still not aware that everything end for him more or less good. And they're such dumb champs together. Amazing.
Appa is such a baby they need to throw food into his mouth. Aaaaw.
Hotsquats. HOTSQUATS.
The Boiling Rock, Part 2
AzUla iS PeOplE PerSon And she just shoot up herself like a rocket. Dynamite gal.
Meat of friendship and fatherhood. Yeak, ok, sounds about right. In order to be a dilf you need to be also beefy. I guess.
Maybe show me this heart to be broken and love stronger than fear before you try to made me care about it? Because cuddly teenagers are not particularly emotional and moving. No? Oh, ok. I read analysis about power dynamics between Mai, Ty Lee and Azula, how their friendship works and how it not works, but this betrayal still looks much like it get out of nowhere.
Riot. RIOT. RiOT riOt RioT rioT rrriooot rRriOoOt riooot rIOt lol
Damn, Suki know how to get shit done. And i love how is she an equal match to Ty Lee, so far the most dangerous  hand to hand fighter.
They stole a whole Big Adult War Baloon and just like that they flew back to the temple, huh.
The Southern Raiders
OOOoooh! So, yeah, Aang, if violence is never the answer what you're going to do when you finally meet firelord Ozai, eh? Ok, i know what's he gonna do, but it's weird that untill now he didn't thought about it at all. I guess that before the sun eclipse he didn't worried about how to defeat Ozai because he was supposed to be powerless, but now? Yeah Aang, yeah, whatcha gonna do when you come for him?
Why Sokka and Suki are so secretive about their relationship? Like, probably everyone knows about them. I bet it was Sokka idea and Suki just rolled with it just to humour him. And because it's cute and funny.
So Appa is so traumatized by tunnels that he would faced an air ships shooting bombs and fire at him in such intensity it looks like they shoot lasers.
Ok, Katara putting together her anger at Zuko and hatred towards all fire nation because of her mother being murdered makes sense. She was suppressing all her negative emotions for so long, no wonder that she even burst out at Sokka like that. As awful as it was, it’s understandable. Althought it would be nice to see her apologizing to him instead of talking with Aang about how she still do not forgave that man for what he done. I guess that people are having issues with Katara being angry at Zuko and overall angry is because we do not saw too much interactions between them. He just joins in, goes on two adventures and boom, i want my mother back! Not enough episodes with Zuko just dickin around with gaang and having bigger and lesser arguments.
But i also like how they showed that despite being full of hatred and anger Katara still wasn't able to kill. To commit murder herself. It's not that easy to kill someone, just like forgiveness is not easy. You can’t just say that you forgive or try to convince yourself into feeling like that. But you can somehow start to move on without it. But tbh Katara all this time was thinking about this man as a monster and that what she was exptecting to meet. And she found... well, we all know how he turned out to be. How do you gonna kill someone so pathetic?
I took your mothers life so you can take my mother, that's the only fair way, and i'm just like lololol xD
So, Sokka want to borrow Momo for a few days, who know for what, he most obviously do not. He just plans to get Momo and then maybe some adventure finds them on it's own.
Sooo, they we're just sleeping there like nothing happened and apparently we're surprised when attack happened. lmao seriously? No one got even half of a thaught that this big ass ship was followed? Hm it would be nice if someone else heard Azula celebrating becoming the only child. Sokka would made a good joke about how fucked up of a siblings they are.
The Ember Island Players
Tumblr media
Actress playing Aang was so adorable and cute and precious.
Toph get a big, muscle guy that is defeating 10 people at once while making sarcastic ripostes. That's accurate in, like, 99,9%.
Sokka, a fan of comedy, was so happy and proud when actor playing him used Sokkas jokes and audience loved it. I think that our boy can start writing plays. He could be this world Shakespeare with his sense of humor.
Yes, Jet just died and they couldn't care less. Also he got a flower instead of that wheat. Nice.
Using ribbons to show firebending is a pretty good idea.
The fire nation is not immune to fire nation propaganda plays.
But how they find out about all these events? Like, what happened under Ba Sing Se in crystal caves? Who was their informant? ...Azula herself?
What's going on about Katara and having hope?
The cringe, oh the cringe that gaang was experiencing, it's just beautiful. xD
But seriously, how long is that play?
They should turn it into musical lol.
Aang, you're just 12. Stop thinking about being romantically with someone. Seriously. And do not kiss anyone on a lips without consent. Boy, you need a proper education about boundaries. And take example from Katara - it's a war, there's no time for things like that. Tbh i have nothing against kataang, but it's not handled very well through whole show. There was more scenes with some romantic tension that we're amiss than good. :/
Also, it feels like there's at least one episode missing when at the beginning they're suddenly in Zukos family old house on the ember island. I do noy necessarily need to see every step of their journey, like talking about where to go, and then to go there and getting cozy and all that. But the difference between ending of previosu episode and beginning of this is kind of too much. Especially when it ended on such strong emotional moment for Aang.

Chapter 2
As she headed for her room, Shona tapped her phone, searching for good, upbeat music to cheer her up. Finally deciding on a pop playlist, she began to dance down the long, tiled hallway to her room, slowly feeling better. When she reached her room, she flung open the door and strolled inside. Grabbing her armor out of the closet, she began to change into her battle gear.
She strapped her sword onto her belt and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. Then, she put on her watch that Breezi had made and the bracelet that her mom had given her when she was little to help her control her powers. After that, she plopped down on her bed and started scrolling through her list of battle techniques that she kept on her phone. “Hmm. This one looks like a good option.”
As she studied her phone, she heard a knock on her door. “Come in!”
When the door opened, she saw that it was Breezi, dressed in armor, with her silver knife in her weapon belt that she fit around her slim waist, complete with puffy eyes and a runny nose that indicated the fact that she had been crying. “Hey Breez, what’s wrong?”
She smiled, but it was strained. “Eh, nothing. Just remembering things. It doesn’t matter.”
“You sure?”  I asked her worriedly. “Was it about Tornado?”
Breezi shrugged and said, “I’m fine. Anyway, you ready to beat some idiots up?”
Shona laughed. “I thought you’d never ask.”
The two girls made their way to the main room, where Ivy and Strom were strapping on their weapons. Ivy was tying a laser pistol to her waist and Storm was attaching his scythe to his crossbody weapon holder.
           “You ready?” he asked grimly.
“Ready as we’ll ever be,” said Breezi just as gravely.
“We can do this! They’ve never worked as a team before. We will crush them,” Shona flashed a winning smile.
           Ivy smirked. “Whatever you say.”
“Alright. Let’s get going,” said Breezi. “Everyone, weapons ready. Trackers on. Shona, you got your watch on?”
They all had watches that could communicate, be used as a flashlight, and cut through solid objects with a laser. Unfortunately, they couldn’t tell time. Shona always lost hers, so Breezi didn’t hesitate to ask her first.
Shona smiled and held up her wrist. She was used to this question. “Only lost it once since Sunday!”
Storm rolled his eyes. “Sunday was yesterday. Now can we go? Clearly we won’t have the element of surprise but that doesn’t mean we have to give them that advantage!”
Ivy nodded. “We’ve got everything we need, now let’s get a move on.”
She pushed open the door to find a line of teenagers standing about ten feet away in the grassy plain surrounding the base. It was the twins. She didn’t know how they had found it since it was surrounded by tall pine trees, masking the fairly small base.
Shona pushed past her saying, “What’s holding you—oh.”
She saw her own twin, Ocean, deep blue eyes glistening and long blond hair, identical to Shona’s, fluttering in the soft breeze coming from Breezi’s brother, Tornado, who was standing next to her, wind-blown brown hair surrounding his pale face and brilliant green eyes. Next to him, holding out a white flag, was Fleur, Ivy’s twin. Her long, dark brown hair was intertwined with long green grass and her deep brown cow eyes seemed to indicate a kind, gentle nature, but Shona knew better. Fleur was just as horrible as the others. Shona wondered why she was carrying a white flag. But before she could dwell on it too much, she noticed who was standing next to Fleur.
It was a boy. He was dressed in all black with a hood covering half his face. The bottom half of his face was visible, however, and a twisted smile creeped across it, making his features that were supposedly identical to Storm’s look nothing like Storm’s at all. It was Galaxy, the person they had hoped would never attack. “Greetings, brother.”
Surprisingly, his voice was rich and smooth, despite his creepy smile. Storm looked like he’d remembered something horrible as he saw Tornado, Ocean and Fleur put on what looked like sunglasses. “Whatever you do, do not look at his eyes!”
The bottom half of Galaxy’s face smirked. “I have very nice eyes, for your information. Identical to yours, mom said. But I never believed that. I was always the handsome one, don’t you think? Anyway, brother, we come in peace. Didn’t you see our white flag?”
Fleur waved it. “We just came to deliver a message. For Shona, I believe. Very secret really.”
She smiled what was probably supposed to be a winning smile, but instead she looked murderous.
Shona eyed her suspiciously. “I’m not listening to any messages from you. You’ll just attack if I come any closer. Or you’ve somehow cursed the message to kill us and I’ll die if I listen to it.”
Ocean rolled her eyes. “Everyone else would die too, idiot.”
Shona wasn’t going to budge. She turned to her ally elementals. “Do we attack?”
Storm opened his mouth to say something, but a giant tendril of water came out from nowhere and scooped him up, shooting 50 feet in the air. Shona cried out in outrage when she saw her sister, arm extended to the sky, making the water boil and freeze and sway. If she kept going, she would end up killing Storm. “I thought you needed a bit of convincing.”
Shona thrust her hand into the sky, determined to get Storm down. That’s when the enemy struck. Fleur dropped her flag and drew a sword. Tornado whipped out his two knives. Fighting with two knives didn’t sound like a great technique, but he was very skilled at it.
Meanwhile, Galaxy strolled over, hand hovering over his hood like he was about to pull it down. Breezi and Ivy stood in front of Shona, shielding her so that she could keep her powers focused on Storm.
Storm, though terrified, kept shouting, “Whatever you do, do not look in his eyes!”
Shona yelled up to him, “Summon something! Quick!”
One of Storm’s powers as an elemental was summoning dead animals from the ground and using them to his will. He was a type of necromancer. It wasn’t always convenient, however, because it took a while to summon them. To summon a dragon, which was what they needed right now, it could take up to five minutes of concentration. They would have to buy time.
That’s when Galaxy pulled down his hood. Shona looked down, but Ivy and Breezi didn’t have time. They turned away from the enemy and instead turned to me. At that point, Ocean dropped her hand and let Storm fall down. Shona cushioned the fall with water but he was still too far away to help and he was still concentrating on summoning a dragon.
The enemy advanced on her, now with Breezi and Ivy being mind controlled of something. She was outnumbered six to one. That’s when the ground began to shake. A large, scaled clawed paw erupted from the earth. The enemy shouted retreat and backed away, they knew what dragons could do. Breezi and Ivy went with them, shouting, “We’ll come back for you. You can never get away from us.”
Shona wished she could grab them and bring them back with her to the base, but she knew they were being controlled and they could spy for the enemy or try to kill her and Storm.
He swooped in on the dragon, holding out a hand. Shona grabbed it and climbed on. They took off, swooping past the base and into the forest. They would be safest there until the enemy was gone because Breezi and Ivy could show them the way into the base and they wouldn’t be perfectly safe until the enemy was far away. Storm needed to switch the security methods so that Ivy and Breezi were locked out until they were rescued and put back in their right minds.
Storm winced slightly as they took off. Shona didn’t see why. The dragon’s takeoff was perfectly smooth.
Then she saw the large spots on his armor that looked as if they had been melted. He had to be covered in burns under his armor. He had to be in a lot of pain. Shona noticed that he wasn’t looking great. His body sagged and his eyes looked like they were about to close. As he lost consciousness, Shona pushed him over so he was laying against the dragon. “That should help. Oh no…”
The dragon had started losing scales rapidly. Without Storm’s magic keeping it alive, it wouldn’t last much longer. The scales began flying off, cutting her in several places. Dragon scales were the only substance that could penetrate their armor. She could only imagine how scraped up Storm was getting; he was laying right against the dragon. “Come on, Storm. Just give me a little more power. You can do it!”
She shook him slightly and winced as blood spilled onto her hands. “Maybe not…”
She steered what was left of the dragon to the ground. When they hit, the dragon crumbled apart, and Shona and Strom tumbled off, getting more bruises on the way. Shaking, Shona stood up and leaned over Storm. He was pale and bleeding in several places. Dragon scales protruded from his armor like darts. Several of the cuts looked like they were going to need stitches or Breezi’s skilled healing magic.
Discouraged, Shona looked around. They were in a small clearing in an oak forest. Dandelions and daisies adorned the tall, green grass.
Shona sighed in defeat. They were in the middle of nowhere, with no food or medical supplies, and Storm’s life on the line.
