Truth potion ask! For Rel: if you had the opportunity to break Ventari's tablet and get rid of the structure it imposes on the Pale Tree/Her Sylvari - would you?

Rel looks conflicted, then exhales forcefully as the potion pushes him to actually answer. "Part of me wants to say yes. Part of me doesn't. I...breaking the tablet wouldn't entirely remove that structure. Even in a scenario where it would...look. Changing or removing some of that rigidity would, to me, be a good thing. But losing the structure you've built your life around is terrifying. It was hard enough for me and Nisha, and I know it's not quite the same, but to be the one inflicting that on others..."

He leans his chin on his palm and meets your eyes. "I think you'd have to actually put me in that situation for me to choose. I don't know."

♨️ XIV - Temperance : Balance, harmony, synthesis, avoiding the extreme.

Let's talk about Caradoc, Ex-Nightmare Courtier, and The Dream!

In my personal canon "You can't rejoin The Dream after falling to The Nightmare" is factually wrong, and it's more along the lines of "It is possible to rejoin The Dream after leaving The Nightmare behind but it is a little-explored and slow process that requires one to constantly work on improving oneself, takes a lot of mental strenght and discipline, and is generally not talked about by those who have managed to do it out of a sense of shame over ones past with the Court and fear of rejection by the Dreamers regardless".

Cara did manage to rejoin eventually, though it was a long process to get there.

He was basically soundless for a long time after his sister dragged him away from the court, keeping his distance from both Nightmare and Dream entirely throughout the time he spent in Elona through some meditation techniques Ailís had the awareness to research and collect for him in advance, as preparation for the aftermath of him leaving the court and The Nightmare behind. (Legit where would he be without his sis... I mean, he knows exactly where he would be but let's not talk about that.)

There was a significant distance between him and the Grove, and even though he felt a faint longing for the Dream everytime he looked at Ailís (who is very much still a Dreamer despite her own complicated relationship with the Grove and their mother) - to feel that same deep connection they had once shared as pod twins, to feel that connection in a different way with other Sylvari - it was always just a passing feeling, one that he was able to quickly bury deep in his chest and force himself to forget.

He would only later realize that he was scared, scared of being rejected by the Dream entirely, of tainting it with his past, of there forever being this wall of thorns and poison ivy between him and other Sylvari that he couldn't overcome - and that other Sylvari would feel that it was there, that there was something deeply wrong with him no matter how hard he tried to leave his past behind him.

And then he met Papaver, and they grew close, and eventually Cara learned that they had never had a connection to The Dream to begin with - and I think that took a lot of anxiety from Caradoc, to know that there was someone else who wasn't connected to The Dream (not willingly like the soundless at least), someone who was still a wonderful person that he had grown to love and care about very much. And he learned to be alright with his own disconnection from The Dream, for the time being.

It wasn't really until Cara and Pops had settled down in Caledon forest, so close to the Grove with their mother and other siblings, that he felt this longing for The Dream again, and it was at this point that he felt confident enough to tentatively try and reconnect - ever so slowly.

Since you can't exactly buy self-help books about how to go about it he tried to figure out his own methods, modifying those meditation techniques that had helped him in Elona and meditating in different spots of Caledon with varying distances to the Grove, where the feeling of The Dream was strongest.

And slowly, after months upon months of trial and error, of frustration and tears and disappointment, of getting close to giving up more times that he dared to admit, there came a point where he could ever so slightly feel it. A familiar sensation he had all but forgotten, a gentle, warm caress that made the growth spots along his spine tingle pleasantly.

He had reconnected to The Dream. A fragile connection, but a connection nonetheless. And he kept going from there, training to maintain that connection like others would train a muscle until he reached a point where muscle memory didn't require him to focus on it anymore.

And thus, Caradoc had managed what is widely regarded as impossible among Sylvari, and rejoined the Dream.

After all of that, Caradoc is one of the few Sylvari who have managed to come back from Nightmare into the Dream who actually talks about his experiences and struggles - in fact, he is a teacher in the Grove and actively teaches his saplings about The Nightmare, what it is, what it does to one, what it feels like and how to look out for its tricks and allures.

Of course, there are Sylvari in The Grove who don't approve of his teaching methods, but he is determined to share his experiences with the younger generations, to have an open and honest dialogue about these unpleasant topics, so the Sylvari who come after him can hopefully avoid the going through the trauma and mistakes of his own past.

And most imporantly, that people learn that even Sylvari who do end up falling to Nightmare are not completely beyond redemption.

🌞 XIX - The Sun : Enlightenment, finding the truth, a moment of glory or vitality, trusting your abilities.

Rhysanthir awoke only a few months before the events of Icebrood Saga, and in his Dream he saw a large, lonely figure standing against a grey sky in an endless field of snow and ice, defiantly holding up a blazing torch that did not so much as flicker despite the Blizzard that was raging all around. 

There was movement in the distance, small shadows at first, pairs of glowing eyes that turned dark and faded away as a much bigger shadow stirred on the horizon, seemingly absorbing the smaller ones into it until another pair of eyes opened - large, unblinking eyes that glowed a cool, menacing blue, and all would have been quiet if it wasn’t for the wind in his ears (or was it a voice, whispering?) and a deafening roar in the far-off distance, far behind whatever monstrous creature those blue eyes belonged to. 

In that moment, the lonely figure began fading away, still holding high that torch and unmoving, yet disintegrating from the top like ashes blowing away in the storm of ice.

All Rhys remembers in that moment was reaching out his hand towards the figure - but it was someone else who took it. 

A mender, helping him out of his pod, safe on the outskirts of the Grove, no signs of the cold, unforgiving landscape he had just seen mere moments ago.

When he later told the Elders about his Dream there was a lot of muttering, exchanged glances, and in the end Rhys was told his Dream probably pointed towards his Wyld Hunt, that it seemed like was the one chosen to stand against and kill Jormag, the Elder Dragon of Ice.

A Wyld hunt to kill an Elder Dragon. A heavy burden. An honor. And Rhys accepted it dutifully.

Time passed and eventually with nothing else to go on the Pale Tree sent him off to join Bria, knowing that she was about to head north due to Bangar’s Legion Party and seeing as she was the only one who had real experience in being both a Wyld Hunt Valiant and full time dragon slayer - who better to teach this new Valiant and prepare him for his big destiny, right?

So long story short, this is how Rhys met Braham, and after getting to know him and learning about his baggage about being the Norn of Prophecy Rhys made a decision for himself. 

That the interpretation of his Wyld Hunt by the Elders had been wrong. 

That the figure he had seen in his Dream had been this Norn, and that his Wyld Hunt wasn’t to kill Jormag with his own two hands, but rather, to do whatever he can to help Braham kill them instead - whatever the cost.

He was sure that was the right path. 

This is what the Dream awoke him for, what he was meant to do all along.

Bria respected that decision and that’s honestly how Rhys ends up accompanying Braham throughout most of the story of IBS, for all those spirit related shenanigans and whatnot, and why they grow close..

🧙 I - The Magician : Making a deliberate decision, taking action, experiencing a sensation of power, deep thought.

Before Ailís was a Revenant she was a Warrior, and a big reason of why her initial attempt to beat some sense into her brother and drag his ass back home and away from the court failed miserably was because by the time she had found him Caradoc had already learned ruthless and powerful offensive mesmer tactics from Faolain herself. 

Ailís, still young and a rather unexperienced fighter at this point, stood no chance against him and so she ran, and she kept running and never returned to Caledon or the Grove for a long time after.

It was many years later, during another mercenary gig, that she heard about Revenants for the first time - powerful warriors who chanelled the powers of the mists, who fought with the aid of powerful spirits.

That made her think, about how having that kind of power would give her an edge over Caradoc whenever she dared to face him again. Because despite having become a strong and experienced fighter in her own right, she was scared deep down - of facing her brother with just her blades when he had an army of clones and a plethora of magic abilities up his sleeve, of losing and failing. 

Of failing her brother.

So before she knew it, she found herself in front of the Mist Portal in Lion’s Arch, and as she stepped through the portal she vowed to herself that she wouldn’t come back to this realm unless she had found a powerful spirit willing to become her ally.

First day of Tyria Pride 2023

WIP Whenever (and that includes Wednesday ! )

I was tagged by @redwayfarers aka @i-mybrunettelady and unfortunately I have not moved more than a few words forward on the previous WIP, so... here's another WIP to feast your eyes upon 😊

This is set somewhere between Heart of Thorns and Season 3, so obviously spoilers for the former. Featuring, Vigil shenaningans, Laranthir being autoritative (hot!), Dairban and Galaëd being friends (also hot!), and Galaëd being a little shit.

Dairban is Meryw's podtwin, a Warmaster of the Vigil and Laranthir's close second and belongs to my ever partner in crime @lilypixy !

Galaëd did not remember how it started. A word. An insinuation. And his antlers ramming into one of the recruits. Dairban seizing him by the waist and tearing him away from the fray only to join in himself. And here they stood, in Laranthir's office, while raised voices rattled the walls of the Vigil Fortress.

The doors slammed open and the Grand Warmaster stormed towards them, a disappointed expression on his face.

"Sit. Both of you." he ordered, before they could even rise from their seats.

His expression was cold and judgemental. A severe disappointment written in bright lines his face.

"I have six recruits harbouring bruises, cuts and electrical burns. Anything you wish to add to that list?"

Galaëd scoffed. There was a certain number of things he would have added to that list, yes...

Oh this is a Fun one askldfasdf :D Hmm...to give you a selection of a few folks from most to least likely, we've got:

Ever: if they ever get themself into a bit (which isn't that common of a thing), they're sticking to that bit. Not even necessarily because it thinks the joke's that funny, it's just bad at letting things go.

Casca: can and Will run a bit into the ground, but specifically in the situation where it's something she and the people she cares about find funny but someone she dislikes hates. If it's going to irritate the shit out of someone she doesn't care for, she is never letting that go.

Minei: will commit to a bit, but only with her sibling(s) and no one else.

Kerra: will stick to a bit, but not for extremely long at one time--more of a "I'll bring this joke back around again next week/month/etc. because I still find it funny" thing, if anything.

Pliarr: will laugh about others committing to a bit in the right circumstances, but isn't going to do it himself.

I would platonically take a lot of my characters out on dates, BUT!

Ennreck, I would romantically date Ennreck in a heartbeat. If a both cowgirl using he/him pronouns who has pretty much his whole life figured out were to seem even remotely interested in me??? I'd chance a date in a heartbeat. Probably would help him around the ranch for a day then treat him to dinner, we could go star gazing after since the sky is so clear in his isolated corner of the desert 🥺 There's not much to avoid with him, aside from any talk of the Legions which he left. Easy enough to steer clear of that one. He's really such a cool guy he'd like doing anything so long as there's good conversation to accompany it, and I'm pretty damn good at making simple conversation in person. I think we would hit it off!

As for ranger pets, Anet has fucking kept the Elonian drake from me for TOO LONG!!!!!

Like, drakes are already an option LET ME HAVE MY GATOR
