EXCLUSIVE: Following his acclaimed role in the Showtime series Fellow Travelers, Jonathan Bailey may have found his follow-up, and it’s a big splash. Sources tell Deadline that he is in early talks to star in Universal and Amblin Entertainment’s new Jurassic World movie. Scarlett Johansson is also in talks to star. Gareth Edwards will direct. The studio recently dated the pic to bow on July 2, 2025 and moved fast to find a director, with Edwards spending all of last week meeting with execs. After impressing producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall, who helped launch the franchise in the ’90s, an offer soon followed. Pre-production is expected to ramp up once a deal is sealed. The new movie will be a fresh take, with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. David Koepp penned the script. The film will be will be executive produced by Spielberg through Amblin, and Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce through Kennedy-Marshall. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio. Bailey has strong ties with Universal as he is set to appear in its anticipated Wicked adaptation. The studio is high on the project after making it the big reveal during its CinemaCon presentation, and sources they were high on his performance following the shoot. On top of Wicked, Bailey is also coming off Fellow Travelers. The limited series also starred Matt Bomer and earned Bailey a Critics Choice Award for his work, making him a frontrunner in the Emmy race. Bailey is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and Conway van Gelder Grant Ltd.

On this day in 1957
Tumblr media
On 15th September, 1957, John Coltrane went into Rudy Van Gelder’s living room studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, and recorded the eternal and irreplaceable Blue Train. This album is the saxophonist’s only session as a leader for Blue Note Records.

This was one of the first jazz albums I ever heard or bought and it holds a special place in my heart.

Because / Come Together
George Benson
I heard about this album from a marvelous Rick Beato interview , George Benson: The Greatest Guitarist/Singer of All Time.
Tick Beato is a very good interviewer, but George Benson is a wonderful storyteller, so Beato was smart to just lto let him talk and listen for the most part-just a wonderful interview.
Benson is generous with his praise for people who mean a lot to him. In The Ron Carter Interview Beato asked Carter about electronically amplifying the bass. I dion't have enough baakground to really understand aeverything, but I found it very interesting that Carter with his son in tow would take a bus down to Rudy Van Gelder's studio on Saturdays to experiment and work on the techniques.
The Other Side Of Abbey Road was produced by Creed Taylor and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The sound of Ron Carter's bass is great. The songs were recorded as live=ensamble

Charles Earland – Intensity
Intensity is an album by organist Charles Earland which was recorded in 1972 and released on the Prestige label. Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars, stating: “Even if the performances on Intensity weren’t excellent, this Charles Earland session would be required listening for jazz historians because it marked the last recorded documentation of Lee Morgan. Only two days after Intensity was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s famous New Jersey studio on February 17, 1972, the influential trumpeter was shot and killed by a girlfriend at the age of 33. Refusing to confine himself to hard bop, Morgan was exploring soul-jazz and fusion during the last years of his life – and his enthusiasm for soul-jazz is hard to miss”.

FredFilms ♥️ Horace Silver!
FredFilms Postcards Series 4.6
It’s almost impossible to sum up the 60+ years of Horace Silver’s professional life as a pianist, band leader and composer in a blog post. Suffice it to say that he walked the line of being a sophisticated, acclaimed musician, while at the same time releasing a whole bunch of accessible and popular records, primarily on the BlueNote record label.
(For you yacht rockers, you should compare Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” from 1974 with Horace’s 1964 classic “Song for My Father.”)
“Great Artist” indeed!
PS: And let’s not forget the ‘great artist’ who shot this photography (and another in our series), Blue Note Records co-founder and photographer, Francis Wolff.
.....
From the postcard back:
Congratulations! You are one of 125 people to receive this limited edition FredFilms postcard!
