Videos and propaganda under the cut!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Disneyland, WDW Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris
Propaganda:
Disneyland version: "It has such an effective use of underground sections, especially when they're completely dark and give you the illusion of going even faster. The first one can catch you off guard, which makes it all the more effective! The canyon theming is gorgeous as always, and while there's a shorter town section, it's still fun to look at. The cave for the lift hill after the first dark section is also great and I love the use of water features in the ride"
Disney World version: Ok so this is a bit of a story. There was a doctor who noticed that lots of his patients had passed kidney stones after riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. So he and a collaborator rode on the ride a bunch of times while holding a backpack with a 3D printed kidney filled with urine and kidney stones. Amazingly, around 60% of the time when sitting in the back of the coaster, the stone would pass! The study also notes that other roller coasters in the park like the rock n roller coaster or space mountain did not have the same effect. You can read more about it here: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/09/for-kidney-health-roller-coaster-therapy/501278/

some things about the wdw galactic starcruiser star wars hotel:
they really want us to think of it as a space cruise and not a hotel, and tbf it doesn’t at all meet the disney standards for other hotels. it only has 100 rooms! and they’re alll cramped quarters with no actual windows or access to real sunlight (with the exception of park time and the “climate simulator”). also, it’s lacking a lot of normal hotel amenities like a pool or gym.
the climate simulator is a small courtyard outside where you can have access to fresh air, sunlight, and plants! it has to be small because they’re “simulated” in the larp story, and it would be asking a lot for a starcruiser to have a spacious garden or deck area simulated.
the timeline of this is based in the middle of the newest star wars trilogy with interactions with rey, chewbacca, and kylo ren. old school star wars fans are very upset about this and bring it up every chance they get online because they want to have lunch with lando instead. and honestly? i’d also like to have lunch with lando, but maybe be less obnoxious about it.
the storyline also includes several original characters. their designs, much like the design of the rest of the “ship” don’t quite get the star wars look, to be honest. they feel a little sillier, a little more cartoony than what we’ve come to expect of star wars. it’s an odd kind of choice considering that the current star wars leadership has been otherwise allergic to the silly side of star wars, trying to distance its modern theme park presence from the “hyperspace hoopla” days of yore.
honestly, the character interactions feel like what they wanted to bring originally to the galaxy’s edge theme park lands in hollywood studios and disneyland, concepts that were eventually cut way back and VE’d to oblivion.
all “voyages” are 3 days—friday, saturday, and sunday. the schedule is PACKED on saturday with breakfast at 7am to the finale lasting until 11pm. friday is a partial day, arriving at 1pm, and sunday is really just breakfast. despite the uneven distribution across days, a lot of the pricing discussed online breaks the prices down to per person per day (not per night as would be expected of a hotel).
a family of 4, without discounts, would be charged a minimum of $6000 for this experience. this pricing makes it competitive with an actual real life cruise which generally has more space and more options of stuff to do, as well as access to real sunlight and potential to visit other countries.
honestly, the problems of this concept are so complex, but the obvious one is the cost. the fact that disney has decided to pull the plug rather than attempt a lower cost version of the experience is fascinating. because i like lists, here’s some more issues with it under the cut:
throwing casual fans with a lot of money into the same space with hardcore larpers feels awkward. maybe a future version could have more ~normal hotel areas~ that are lightly themed and then a specific larping playground with reservations for larp experiences as well as a general meetup larp zone?
lacking things people like to have while on vacation like time to rest, a pool area, and access to sunlight creates a harried vacation experience, as does having to switch hotels part way thru your vacay because your “voyage” was only 2 nights but you have more theme parks to hit. once again, more of a normal themed hotel with a specific separate larp area could help.
outsiders might think star wars is an easy slam dunk theme, but it’s not. it’s vast and hard to pick just one look to theme to, not to mention all of the very distinct parts of the timeline different movies/shows take place during. and you’re trying to make every generation of guest happy no matter where they jumped on the train! the best option might be for the theme to truly be outside of the timeline with specific experiences during different trilogies that can cater to different kinds of fans.
this is a personal gripe but Uh. if you want people to actually larp in your parks, let people cosplay star warsy things there and not just at your space hotel. uni lets folks dress as hogwarts students and makes bank selling them silly little uniforms and merch. disney sells adult jedi robes and then gets mad if anyone wears them. i get safety concerns, but if uni can make it work disney should be able to find a way.
and lastly, having a larger variety of price points to choose from would allow the rich super fans to spend a lot while more casual fans and just curious theme park goers could fill in the rest with a lower stakes experience.
“immersion” has become the go-to word for themed experiences in the past few years, but we gotta admit that most folks don’t actually want true, full immersion. full immersion means inaccessibility, discomfort, and letting go of embarrassment to fully participate. most folks aren’t willing to do that for free much less pay for it. but there’s also lots of room for experimentation even without trying for full immersion. universal studios has begun offering jurassic world and back to the future-themed escape rooms, and indie experiences like meowwolf, the nest, and fairgrounds st pete are popping up all around the country. it’ll be interesting to see what pops up next.

No matter the current situation versus potential situation, there are going to be parts of a move that suck and are stressful. Especially so if it involves moving states. But just because Some parts are going to inevitably suck doesn't mean all of it is doomed to. I'm not sure where your current residence is, but one good thing about moving somewhere that has regular heatwaves is that there are more resources available when it comes to dealing with them. IK that sounds kinda silly but I feel like it's the truth, ESP when it comes to moving somewhere that gets a lot of tourists. I don't want to be an old man "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" but as a native Floridian I can't help but stress that it's the truth xD.
Leaving a support system does sound very scary, but if it is around Orlando/Lake Buena Vista that you want to move to, at least it should be within reasonable distance of an airport when it comes to calling for help or needing to fly out for some reason. Traffic is going to suck, but like the heat it's something you will get used to. This is a move people make a lot, and while that doesn't make it any easier, I hope it helps it feel like it's not so dumb and impossible. Another thing I want to include in this word wall is this: You're smart and an adult and I'm sure you don't need to be told that you're probably not going to get the exact position you want right away. It might be something you have to work up towards or have just a 'getting by' job until you do get your foot in the door or on the path to the door you wanna go through. It's gonna be hard and there are gonna be days in your happy place that aren't as happy and there are probably times you're gonna feel like it sucks. But sucky days aren't going to completely eliminate the possibility of good days. I believe in you and have all of my fingers and toes crossed that this is something that works out in your favor with as few hiccups as possible. The chances of there being no hiccups at all is really slim, but, I am still hoping and praying that things swing in your favor as much as they can.
I needed to hear all this today, thank u 🥰
You’re right, I hadn’t thought of the various resources for heat they’ve got. My previous college program, they were able to move me to nights or early mornings which was nice! I really enjoyed working those. Opening was a joy tbh. Closing was a joy as well.
That is the area - like a 20 mile range from WDW lol. The traffic is something I’m not as worried about because I did it in my programs and lawd my hometown has it worse.
I’m coming from a gentrified medium city on the Eastern seaboard that’s gotten too many incoming tourists for our infrastructure to handle. It’s bumper to bumper from 4:30 to 6 at cross sections because there’s only one or two major routes. Maddening.
You’re right about the airport. My town flies direct to MCO so that’ll be easy. (Just gotta solve the pets for trips back and forth…)
Absolutely, I’m expecting to have to network and work my way up. I’m going to apply for everything when the time is right and see what sticks. My husband will be able to find a job, EZPZ. I’ve got a nice resume and I’m planning to really make my LinkedIn page nice? Try to network on Disney’s alumni website too. See if I can find any work that’s $20+ with them. 🤷🏼‍♀️ If not, I’ll go executive assistant route or try the other theme park or teach. (In Florida? It’s lowest on my list.) Disney has multiple roles for me to use my education degree. Just, like you said, got to get my foot in the door
Thank u kind stranger. This is a large move. And it’s not impossible… But it is life changing. It’s not just me involved. Thinking about how much I love my current job (at the moment) is making me hesitate too. Idk, next years’s students may have me packing my bags.
Our plan is to move at the new year. Professional internships will have started if I need to go that route. I’ll have stayed a semester at my school, we’ll have Christmas goodbyes and enough money saved to pay everything we need to for the move. Just feels right.

Boy, Boston Dumb Fuck!
Just saw those new clips from Pain Hustlers and let me tell you:
Tumblr media
So glad you don't want to act anymore, but I went to a street fair this weekend and the pottery market looks to be pretty packed. Better get to practicing if you want to pay for future WDW trips with the family, because that comp'd VIP stuff ain't gonna last much longer.
That is, unless, the rumors are true and you are going to come back to Marvel (if they'll even have your fatshaming, racist, antisemetic loving ass back; it is Disney, so I'd give it 50-50). Just hope Mackie understands when you stab him in the back (but I guess that tracks with your new racist brand).
Are you going to lean into that White Privlege of yours or are you going to do the right thing? Come on, man!!!

I'll be in WDW from 9/10 to 9/16. I thought I was going to have the next chapters for my 2 fics all edited and ready to go to remotely post while I'm gone, but I won't.
But in the meantime, here's a little excerpt from each of them to hold any of the readers over:
Tumblr media
Asphodel:
Before leaving the medical bay, as Obi-Wan sat upright on the bed and reached for his face, feeling the familiar angles and planes of skin that were his own, he glanced over at Mace, who remained by his bedside. “I suppose I’ll just have to wait for my hair and my beard to grow back in,” Obi-Wan murmured under his breath with a forced smile. Mace took a deep breath and leaned forward in the chair beside him as he said, “We are very glad to have you back, Obi-Wan, but now that you are back, there are some concerns that were raised while you were.. well, dead.” Slinging his legs over the side of the bed, Obi-Wan looked down, still dressed in the clothing of Rako Hardeen. He couldn’t wait to shower and scrub away the grime from underneath his armor, and feel the familiar sensation of his own clothing against his skin. He frowned at Mace and asked, “Such as?” Level-headed and calm, Master Windu brought both of his hands together, as if he was about to launch another strategic plan. But instead, he disclosed, “Prior to when you went undercover, there was some talk spreading throughout the padawan dorms. A rumor. Your funeral did nothing but reinforce the legitimacy of the rumor, and as you were believed to be dead, the talk became rather persistent.” Obi-Wan narrowed his eyes, “What kind of rumor?” “You have a son with the Duchess of Mandalore,” Mace stated plainly. The medical bay was quiet as the colleagues locked eyes.
Tumblr media
The Echo and the Stain:
Looking over in her direction, Obi-Wan noticed how Satine was curled up against her side of the cave, her knees pulled up tightly to her chest, and the hood of her jacket pulled in to hide her face. Her pack was behind her, serving as a support for her lower back. It had been hours since he had heard her make a noise. Obi-Wan quietly rose from where he was crouched on the floor of the cave and crawled across the distance between them just close enough to peek around under her jacket hood. Her face was pressed against the stone wall and she was asleep. Her eyes were closed and her mouth was slightly open, and as Obi-Wan found himself staring at her and thinking about how peaceful she looked, her eyes opened. And she gasped, scrambling upon the floor to shove him away from her. “What are you doing?!” Satine yelled, breathing heavily, reaching a hand up to her chest. Her eyes were wide and fixed on him in a look of fear. Obi-Wan had been shoved back a few feet where he now looked like a rumpled mess of robe and tunics. He had been surprised by the way she reacted, and he stared back at her, stumbling over his words as he tried to explain, “You were quiet! I was wondering if you were okay!” “Why were you so close to me, anyway? With me being so unattractive,” Satine spat out, clinging her arms around herself as she shivered from the cold. The padawan rolled his eyes dramatically as he scooted back to the other side of the cave and dramatically sighed, “Ugh, here we go. A stupid little comment and you’re outraged.” Satine glared at him from her side. The very boy who lost all sense of decorum when she made a casual comment about his padawan braid back on the ship days before was trying to scold her for being offended by something he said. She remarked, “Don’t even start with me. I said your braid looked silly and you nearly attacked me!” “Because it’s my braid! It’s an important part of my path as a Jedi Knight!” he yelled, grabbing at the braid and holding it up to emphasize his point. “And this is my face and it’s kriffing important to me, you daft imbecile!” Satine hollered back, pointing to herself.
I'll be back soon. :)

Hello there everyone! Welcome to the ninth night of the eighth annual Wreck-it Ralph Pin Post Month!
Tonight we have the DLR/WDW, Ralph Breaks the Internet Mystery Collection, Rapunzel, Vanellope Von Schweetz, Long Hair Problems, Wreck-it Ralph pin. OE.
This pin was apart of the release of pins for the Ralph Breaks the Internet movie in November of 2018. First made available on October 18, 2018, this pin was sold in Disneyland and in Walt Disney World in pin shops throughout the parks. As with most mystery collections, this pin along with the nine other princess pins apart of this collection were packed in random groups of two in a box. Leaving the identity of the pin a mystery until it was purchased and opened. This pin in particular features Princess Rapunzel being climbed like her tower by Vanellope Von Schweetz. Who has a smile to match her gremlin personality as she tugs on Rapunzel’s long hair.
This pin like the others in it’s collection are rather small in size, which means not a lot of space to work with detail wise. The design of the pin is a very recognizable one that was used both in promotional works and in merchandise for the film. Despite what it may look like from this photo, there is no glitter involved in this pin. Instead there is a more textured layer of paint used to create the illusion of glitter, which was also used in adding the streaks and flowers to Rapunzel’s hair as well as the spots on her pants. It’s a good addition that adds a little more depth and detail to the pin within the small space available. The expressions on Rapunzel and Vanellope’s faces also are well done considering the space available. It is a frequent occurrence in small pins that faces tend to look a little squished or flat, however here they are well spaced and expressive. Overall I’d have to say that this is a pretty good pin, with a fun design for both Rapunzel and Wreck-it Ralph fans to enjoy.

I don't want to doxx myself on main because I live in FL, so I'm doing this on anon, but if you want me to expand or have questions let me know and I'll dm you on my main :)
I actually live in Florida and used to be a Disney regular before covid :( The others were spot on with the bug spray but another option that my mom and I love are the citronella wrist bands which we wear one on each wrist, lol, and if it's really bad one on an ankle (but that's like if it's super bad, which would normally be at night). You might be able to order them before you go just to make sure they have them.
https://www.amazon.com/PIC-Bugables-Mosquito-Repellent-Band/dp/B01ITTE32O/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=citronella+bracelets+mosquito+repellent&qid=1685650761&sprefix=citronella+bra%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-5
As with everywhere be careful with shorts and stuff if you're at a theme park because of germs, especially on rides. When we do Disney or any theme parks, it's exercise pants all the way, same with tops because it's going to be super hot and you're going to get super sweaty because Florida mixed with Disney is so so hot.
Florida during the summer is also super rainy, so bring a poncho or rain coat. We're also just starting the hurricane season, so be aware of that too, checking NOAA's hurricane website is always helpful too keep an eye out. Right now there's a system in the gulf, that they're keeping an eye on but it most likely is going to travel down south. Most hurricanes/tropical storms don't hit the Orlando area, mostly south Florida, but that's been changing a bit, but historically it's never too crazy there. Orlando still gets hit crazy with rain though, bringing a poncho is a must at the parks, otherwise you're going to have to buy one there and it's way cheaper to bring one to the parks, local Publix's, Walgreens, CVS's should have them for a few dollars max.
The Disney Food Blog -> https://www.disneyfoodblog.com has been super helpful over the years, I prefer their insta though :)
I'd also highly recommend bringing a backpack or draw string back pack instead of a purse, and if you do use a purse I'd 100% recommend a crossbody. Backpacks are great because you can bring in stuff that you'll need throughout the day while also having the ability to be hands free. I also could not recommend bringing a battery pack & a charging cord for your phone more! Most stuff at WDW is on their app and so depending on what's running on your phone, your phone's battery might not last the whole day. There's a bunch more but that's kind of a good gist of WDW stuff. I haven't been to Universal in forever, but from when I was there years ago, we kinda did the same stuff we did at Disney there :)
Portable fans are awesome, this one's a necklace and all be it may look goofy sometimes but it's nice to have if you're in line and stuff. Plus you can always keep it in your bag. You can normally find them at Walgreens :)
https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&q=portable+fan+necklace&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjRiOWB96L_AhWVfjABHe_9C6MQ0pQJegQIChAB&biw=1512&bih=842&dpr=2#imgrc=bsUsYR_ORr0a1M
Disney sells these cooling towels at the park but you could probably find them at Walgreens, cvs, Publix, etc. They're absolutely amazing when it's beyond hot
https://www.google.com/search?q=cool+towel+&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjnivyC96L_AhWceDABHQRgB3gQ2-cCegQIABAA&oq=cool+towel+&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQ6BwgAEIoFEEM6CAgAEIAEELEDOgUIABCxAzoECAAQA1D-A1jnEmC6F2gAcAB4AIABW4gB9gaSAQIxMpgBAKABAaoBC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwAEB&sclient=img&ei=GgJ5ZOeVN5zxwbkPhMCdwAc&bih=842&biw=1512&client=safari#imgrc=Z_tDLLCiCz-eSM
Baseball hats, especially the athletic kind that's made out of breathable fabric are also great, plus depending on the one you get it has SPF for your scalp, which a lot of people forget about.
There's a ton more, but I hope this helps!
Also, everyone talks about the dole whip understandably, but the Orange Bird float (with soda) or the orange bird in the cup is absolutely everything. Personally I think it's much better than the dole whip. I'm not sure if it's anywhere else on property, but it's at the sunshine tree terrace in the magic kingdom.
:)
you are quite literally an angel, oh my god, thank you so, so much! I’ve screenshotted this for future reference, you’re a lifesaver 🥹🧡

Key Lime Coconut Martini- Walt Disney World Resort
Tumblr media
It’s been awhile since I’ve shared the “recipe” for one of Disney’s classic and signature drinks, so I’m super excited to share this one. This is a recipe I got years ago from the bartender at Banana Cabana, back when this drink was the signature (and I believe exclusive) drink of Shutters at Caribbean Beach Resort, my favorite resort hotel.I believe it was the last night of our 2008 stay and I wandered over to Banana Cabana for one last drink before packing up and leaving in the morning. The bartender, who has to be the friendliest bartender in the world, asked me the usual Disney questions, and we stumbled on the topic of Coral Reef Restaurant in EPCOT. I talked about this amazing waiter who actually brought me two desserts because I was leaning towards the key lime pie when he said the Jack Daniels mousse was the best dessert in the world.  I ended up ordering the Jack Daniels mousse, mostly to appease our incredibly sweet and very insistent waiter, but really wished for the pie.
Tumblr media
To my surprise (and happiness) he brought the mousse to eat and the pie to enjoy in my room after fibbing and stating it was my birthday in order to get us the extra dessert at no charge. I said that it was an incredible and memorable bit of Disney magic. The bartender smiled and told me that I “had to try” the key lime coconut martini. The idea of key lime with coconut perked me right up, but I’m just so not a martini person. It’s just too strong for my weak tummy. He smiled and told me if I didn’t like it, it was no charge. Willing to try any alcohol from a perfect stranger on the promise of not having to pay for it proved to be too tempting, and I took him up on his offer.  The thing looked exquisite and with the rim dusted with graham crackers, it even vaguely looked (and smelled!) like a key lime pie. One sip and I was in heaven… It was strong but the flavors all worked together so beautifully.  It was one of the few times I actually wished I could have more then just one glass. The bartender was sweet enough to give me the recipe without me even having to ask for it, which is a good thing, since I’d have never remembered to ask for it on my own… Did I mention that this sucker is strong? And the bartender was nice enough to still give me the drink for free, saying that since I was going to order something else and only changed my mind at his suggestion, he didn’t feel right charging me. Disney magic with alcohol is the best thing ever. In the years since I had this drink, it’s become available all across Disney’s properties, most notably Coral Reef Restaurant, Kouzzina (though the recipe may vary slightly) where it is a featured drink at various times of the year, as well as the other places that serve alcohol. It’s a delicious, though it’s so strong, you may not remember how good it is the next day! ~~~~  °o°  ~~~~
Key Lime Coconut Martini
As is served at Shutters at Caribbean Beach Resort, Coral Reef at EPCOT, Kouzzina by Cat Cora at Downtown Disney, and numerous other eateries across WDW - 1 shot Midori Melon liqeur - 1 shot vanilla-flavored vodka (like Stoli) - 3 shots liquid pina colada mix - 1 shot pineapple juice - 1 lime (or 5 key limes) (or 1-2 tablespoons lime juice) - graham cracker crumbs, for rimming the glass Combine all ingredients but the lime. Pour over ice in a cocktail shaker. Squeeze lime into the shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass that’s rimmed with crushed graham crackers (to rim, dip the edge of the glass into water, shake of excess, and dip into graham crackers. Read the full article

They wouldn't be so defensive about this trip if they didn't think it looked sketch too. The flight itself has to be several hours, assuming its a direct flight and no connections, not too mention they need passports, to say nothing of the packing, travel too + from the airport and arrangements for pets, all to hang out for 48-72 hours?? If I'm going to all that trouble I'm taking vacay and staying at least 5-7 days. This wasn't a 1-2 hr drive, they spent as much time traveling as they did there
Oh there are no direct flights from NC to Vancouver---again, it's a minimum of 8 hours----and can be as long as 15. Plus to and from each airport/clearing customs/clearing TSA, etc
And I agree.....a good example is when my family and I go to WDW, since it's the other side of the country.....we don't go for 3 or 4 days, but a week or longer. Because, otherwise? WTF is the point?
