Summary: When wealthy socialite Juhyun is facing pressure to bring a date to the biggest wedding of the year and the beginning of the social season among the elite, she hurriedly asks an old college schoolmate, Park Seonghwa to be her boyfriend for the entire season. The longer they put up appearances, the more they realize that they never want the arrangement to end.

Things to note: Art curator!Seonghwa, a lot of expensive-ness going on. Other idols are mentioned as well (if you’ve read my fics, you know there will be). Tag list is always open, and prepare some nachos because this chapter is cheesy AF.

Chapter 3

Seonghwa arrived at Juhyun’s apartment, pulling his luggage along with him. He wasn’t sure how long they’d be staying, but he was prepared enough for at least a week’s worth of clothes. This trip to Macau was all he could think about since they last met, and he felt his heart pound with nervousness knowing that he was about to rub elbows with the elite to a different extent. But he assured himself, and Hongjoong, that he would be just fine. The trip would probably do him some good, calm his nerves a bit, while also spending time with Juhyun.

A little boy suddenly appeared from the living room, who Seonghwa realized was Woojin, the kid she was babysitting. “Hello,” He said with a slight bow.

Seonghwa smiled and greeted him back. “Hi, is Juhyun here?” He asked.

“Yes, she’s packing clothes for a trip. Are you coming with her?” Woojin asked, and he nodded. “...Are you her boyfriend?”

The comment took him by surprise. “Y-yes, I am,” A nervous chuckle escaped him.

“If you’re her boyfriend, why don’t you come see her everyday?” Woojin asked.

“Ah, well, I have work to do, so we see each other outside,” Seonghwa replied.

“You have to come here everyday to see her, so she knows you love her.”

“Love-” Seonghwa was caught even more off-guard. “I’ll try my best,” He smiled and bent down. “I’m Seonghwa, Park Seonghwa, it’s very nice to meet you,” He held out his hand for the boy to shake.

“I’m Seo Woojin, I live downstairs but I stay here sometimes,” He pointed to the floor. “You look like a prince.”

Seonghwa stifled a big grin that was forming on his face. “Thank you. You look like a prince too.”

“I know, noona always tells me that,” He said. “She says I’ll get a lot of girls confessing.”

“I can tell,” Seonghwa was amused at his confidence, and he stood up right away when he saw Juhyun come down the staircase, carrying her luggage. He couldn’t help but look at her in awe even if she was very simply dressed - a mariniere blouse, black pedal-pushers, and flats. “Hello,” He said, hurrying to help her bring down her luggage.

Even Juhyun was taken by surprise at how handsome he looked that she felt her cheeks heat up. It was only when she heard a small “Wow” coming from the little boy by the living room that she snapped out of her thoughts. “Hi, just got here?” She asked.

“Kind of, I was talking to Woojin over there,” Seonghwa smiled.

“Ah, so both of you have now met, hmm?” She turned to the little boy, who was grinning. “What’s that smile about?”

“He was looking at you all funny, with googly eyes,” Woojin tried to imitate him.

The two of them burst into laughter. “Jihyun’s coming with Moon Bin today, so they’ll take care of you, okay?” She said, and the little boy nodded.

“Jihyun noona’s fun,” He said.

Chapter 1

The first six months of the year was usually a nightmare for Choi Juhyun. The first six months of the year usually meant an endless array of social events, from charity balls to auctions to tournaments and company events and outings. For Choi Juhyun, it was usually a time when there would be speculation and gossip amongst many in her social circle about the plus ones they’d be bringing, if they were from an affluent family or if they owned any businesses or how many offshore bank accounts they had. One could argue that this was a better thing to do with a person’s time, and it was often the topic of conversation that Juhyun would often hear from acquaintances and even to her own circle of friends, even if she knew it meant very little to her friends how much a person made.

This year was especially going to be hell for Juhyun, who was part of the third generation of that one Choi family. Juhyun belonged in the old money crowd, with the wealth of her family spanning more than a century, and with her family’s fortune, she was often in the “It Girl” sections of society columns despite living a more lowkey lifestyle compared to her cousins. What might have been baffling for many was that even with the prestige that came with her name and money, her parents had determined that her younger brother Sangmin, would be the next to inherit the CEO position if her father decided to step down. It was just as well, as Juhyun thought. Her grandparents had set that precedent, after deciding that her father was the favorite child.

It never bothered her uncle, her father’s older brother either, as he was the chief executive in their family’s spread of businesses in Japan. Her aunt, the youngest and the only girl, was very much like the rest of the girls in her family - overlooked for the CEO positions. Her grandfather was a traditionalist in that sense, and it wasn’t as if her grandmother minded either. It seemed like the women in the family were destined to be housewives - a noble profession, but Juhyun wanted to do something more, as did her sister Jihyun.

The upcoming social season ahead was all she could think about as she sat in a quiet, Japanese-themed cafe, going over monthly evaluations of the employees in the department she was in charge of, the digital media division of C Enterprises - the parent company, where most of her family’s fortune was in. Juhyun had a feeling this year was going to be especially hellish, as her friend Jinri, of the Songs that work in plastics, was finally going to marry her longtime sweetheart, Shin Dongwoo, the Shin Dongwoo people gushed about in the news for his architectural masterpieces. It was an event that was being touted as the biggest wedding in the country to date since the last royal wedding. That meant people will double down on the speculation on her and who she planned on bringing, if she did plan on bringing a date.

The door of the cafe opened and in the corner of her eye, Juhyun felt her heart skip a beat when she saw her old schoolmate Park Seonghwa, enter, followed by his best friend and another old schoolmate Kim Hongjoong, both of them seemingly deep in conversation even as they stood to order whatever they wanted. Juhyun remembered how Seonghwa was that guy in school, who kept to himself yet turned heads everywhere he went because he wasn’t just good-looking, he was often on the honor roll as well. She remembered Seonghwa as the guy everyone wanted the attention of.

Juhyun wondered what he was up to now, and the more she wondered, she watched the two sit at the table near the restrooms. The more she wondered, an idea came into mind. She wasn’t sure whether it would work, knowing full well how crazy it already sounded. She saw Hongjoong leave to go to the restroom, and she closed her laptop. “Screw it,” Juhyun nodded to herself and got up, bringing her things with her as she approached his table. “...Park Seonghwa?” She asked quietly, trying to be as careful as possible.

The dark-haired male looked up from his seat. “Yes?” He asked, pausing as he began to realize who she was.”Oh… Choi Juhyun?” He smiled.

“Hi, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?” She waved slightly, internally wanting to hit herself at how awkward she was being. “Can I talk to you for a bit?”

“Sure,” Seonghwa gestured to the vacant seat next to him. “Hongjoong’s sitting over there, you might as well sit next to me, if that’s okay with you.”

“Sure, I don’t mind,” Juhyun carefully set her laptop down and moved the chair a little bit more so as to keep some personal space between them. But as she sat down, she saw someone familiar come in, someone very familiar.

Do Jihan. Her ex-boyfriend. The heir to the Do family’s shipping enterprise. They dated for three years only for her to find that he was cheating on her with another heiress who matched his arrogance: Kim Eunbi, heiress turned celebrity fashion designer. He was still as cocky as she remembered him to be on the last legs of their relationship. Jihan also happened to be one of the closest friends of Jinri’s fiance and was obviously going to be among his groomsmen. He also appeared to be heading towards their direction.

“....Uh, when that guy comes, can you pretend to be my boyfriend for a bit?” Juhyun blurted out when she turned to him, tilting her head towards the direction of the male seemingly walking towards them.

Seonghwa looked to where she was pointing and without a thought, he nodded. Seeing that the male was getting closer, he took Juhyun’s hand and laced their fingers together while he typed something in his laptop with his other hand. Juhyun rested her head on his shoulder as she watched him, glancing at her ex, who now had a smug look on his face upon seeing her.

“Juhyun, Juhyun, Juhyun, Choi Juhyun, didn’t think we’d see each other again,” Jihan stopped in front of their table. “So, who’s the unlucky dude?”

Seonghwa felt her stiffen her grip on his hand. “Shouldn’t you be off screwing what’s her name?” Juhyun quipped rather pointedly.

Jihan seemed to ignore her, only to realize who he was. “Oh, you’re Park Seonghwa, yes, I remember you, we all went to university together, yes, I remember who you are now. I’m surprised, finding about this just now. I didn’t think you went for girls of Juhyun’s type,” He said.

“I did and I do, no wonder we’re dating, aren’t we?” Seonghwa smiled at her and kissed the back of her hand.

“Then I’ll look forward to seeing both of you at the wedding. It should be big. A lot of who’s who, if you know what I mean?” Jihan winked at her. “So, Juhyun isn’t single anymore after all, not that I wasn’t surprised, I mean I was, given that she had to move on from me.”

“I must be that great if you keep mentioning that to people we know,” Juhyun glared at him. She noticed Hongjoong return from the restroom, looking a little stunned at the scene playing out before him.
