Because we all know he’s giving Buck the EXACT SAME eyes under those sunglasses! 😂
Full disclosure, I went back to watch the airfield scene and I paused when Eddie asked if Buck was “going to jump ship” and for a minute I couldn’t stop laughing at how his eyebrows looked raising up above the sunglasses! 🤭🤭
Rewatching 911 and I’m at Hen Begins. When Hen is called into the captains office and they tell her that her coworkers have made complaints about Gerrard’s treatment of her, I like to think a closeted Tommy made a complaint and not just Chim.
Let me ramble a bit about the Cycle of denial and love that Buddie is.
Hmm... I just realized I haven't posted about another line that has popped up several times.
"You don't ever give up, do you?"
Eddie says this after Buck sees him panic in 5x02, and keeps asking questions.
Are you sleeping or just pretending? Any chest pains?
....
Eddie ends up admitting that the trigger for the panic was the "ready-made family" he ended up in. On the surface it's just about his girlfriend but...
"Somehow we became a ready-made family.. And I... I don't know if I'm ready for that."
They talk about loving someone who is not all the way in, how it hurts. Buck tells Eddie to tell Ana that the feelings aren't requited because one-sided love hurts.
This is right after Buck tells Eddie that Buck has "been Ana". (On the surface referring to his own romances, but... He has just recently been pretty much replaced, and pushed out of the Díaz home. Denied. He's been there, with all his heart... But apparently the only one all the way in because he was basically sent packing.)
Eddie: Somehow we became a ready-made family and I... I don't know if I'm ready for that.
They talk some more, Eddie keeps trying to avoid his feelings, and just "stick it out" with Ana anyway.
Buck is frustrated, disgusted. He snidely tells Eddie to "go back to sleep"... "No need to decide right now. Not like we're going home anytime soon..."
-------
So is that it, is buddie dead, finished?
Nope. It just went dormant. It cannot die because of who they are. Buck never gives up. And Eddie admires that, loves him for it.
That's why Eddie even added Buck to his will.
Because Buck needs someone to tie him to life. Because Buck's a fighter, because he never gives up... And because Buck needs to realise that he's not expendable. He matters. He's loved.
It's a whole thing. Buck never gives up! Buck acts like he's expendable. But he's wrong.
Giving up... There are several scenes in which this is discussed. Incapable of giving up... That's who Buck is.
And that innocent "I don't even know what that means." line that repeats... Which happens when someone is just denying the truth. Denial, denial, denial.
I think 7x05 wanted us to REMEMBER this persistence, resilience, that Buck has. It keeps his love for Eddie alive. He does not give up, truly, even if it seems like he has.
The line pops up when Hen is saving a dog, but that line... It's about Buck. It's about undying love.
Hen saves a dog which initially looks dead, but then twitches.
A firefighter watching the scene comments in amazement...
You never give up, do you?
It's reminding us that nothing has really changed. The "dog" looked dead, but it wasn't, and it didn't take long to revive it.
The dog is called Rosie.
Remember the bachelor episode? Who do you choose? Who gets the rose?
The dog is a "rose". Allegory to undying, true love. True love doesn't die that easily. Give it some water, it revives.
Much like Buck never gives up and keeps bothering Eddie, who keeps trying to sleep... and avoid his true feelings. The latest disturbance to the sleep is this, Buck coming out.
See that sadness when Buck says he's relieved? Those are feelings, hiding under the surface. And Eddie's line? A lie, too. Things have just changed.
I'm sorry what the fuck first of all she knew buck was gonna be confirmed as bi which makes this even worse than it already was but also the original comment is so wrong like I LOVE ana and Shannon I'm kinda just meh about marisol (I don't like because of who she played by now but not necessarily as a character overall) now for bucks love interests outside of Tommy is a little different Abby abondend him and didn't really consider his feelings (and I can't bring myself to completely hate her because that storyline hits a little close to home for me but I love my Abby her mom is the one that didn't consider anyone's feelings), I actually really like ali, and Taylor fucking broke her promise and I hate her because she asks invasive and inappropriate questions that people don't have to answer but I love almost all of Eddie love interests
Ngl, I’m a little bummed about the synopsis for 7x4. I mean, Oliver talked about Buck getting off his hamster wheel this season, but again, we have jealous!!Buck bc he’s insecure about his place in everyone’s lives?
We did that in s2, when Eddie first showed up and he was anxious about his place on the team.
We saw it again in s3, when they taped over his name tag & Eddie and Lena got close.
Buck’s been in therapy, he’s learned his worth and has talked about doing and being better, but we’re having ANOTHER insecure Buck storyline because his friends have other friends? There better be some DAMN GOOD PAYOUT from this arc this time, otherwise, it feels very redundant to me, and not in a good way.
I really hope we do get Bi!Buck, or a feelings realization now, because at least that’s something NEW. Honestly, I just want someone to just take Buck & love him the way he deserves to be loved.
Do you guys get what I’m saying, or am I totally bananas? I honestly don’t even know anymore.
I know we’re all clowning on Eddie asking Evan “women flee you?” Buckley for help giving Chris dating advice but, tbf from his perspective Buck is great at relationships, they’ve basically been in one for like 5+ years!
Buck’s guilt is a character in itself. So many of his decisions are a direct result of his guilt. Climbing the Crane after Eddie got shot. Staying in that factory fire after he found out about Daniel. The whole lawsuit after the tsunami. Asking Taylor to move in after he kissed another person. Jumping into a car with a bomb after Eddie left the 118. Going into the train car to save Abby’s husband to atone for not being enough for her after her mom died. Becoming a donor to a friend he hasn’t spoken to in years after the happiness convention guy died. My point is Buck has rarely ever made a decision which wasn’t born out of his need to atone for being alive I guess. So the “hamster wheel” Buck needs to get off is his giant wheel of guilt, which we see he sort of conquered in ‘In Another Life’, the whole “I was Buck” thing but not really. Seeing the new stills from the gym where Oliver has peak guilty Buck expression on his face and the tiny snippet of script JLH accidentally leaked looks like he’s not getting down that wheel anytime soon. And I hope they try to unlatch the guilt monster from Buck’s back this season while he keeps serving the sad pathetic loser looks.
