Impulse (1995) #40
I'm not sure what trope this is but if this were more popular of a comic or animated people would be going nuts over them.
But honestly really their friendship in this was masterfully done.

British actor Larry Dann became a household name in the 1980s through his wholly believable performance as the likeable and dependable sergeant, Alec Peters, in 229 episodes of ITV's long-running police drama, The Bill (2500 episodes 1983-2010). His autobiography has just been published by specialists in British television tie-ins, Oliver Crocker's Devonfire Books.
In the days before internet and social media, it was too easy to assume that mature actors in high profile roles appeared out of nowhere, fully formed, but of course that wasn't the case at all. Actors of Larry Dann's generation learned their craft over many years, through determination, no shortage of courage, and sheer, unrelenting hard graft. Born in 1941, he worked as a child actor in movies, which included a brush with Spencer Tracy, Deborah Kerr and George Cukor, and studied at the Corona Academy stage school from where he built an enduring career on stage and screen.
One of many highlights in Larry Dann's memoir is the fascinating window he affords us into the iconic Theatre Workshop, run by Joan Littlewood, and the production of their huge international hit, Oh What a Lovely War which, according to Michael Billington in The Guardian, not only changed attitudes toward the Great War, it also 'remade British theatre'.
"…So what effect did Oh What a Lovely War have? It helped change attitudes to the first world war. Although we may have read the poetry of Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, we had never before seen popular entertainment express the disenchantment felt at the time by the average soldier. Looking back at the 1963 programme, it is also clear that the production was intended as a political provocation…On a purely theatrical level, the show also did a lot to loosen up the formal rigidity of the British theatre. It was active in demolishing the gap between stage and auditorium, promoted the growth of the musical documentary and encouraged actors to take responsibility for research and development…"

In Joan Littlewood's Oh What a Lovely War, which also featured his friend Brian Murphy, who later starred as George Roper in George and Mildred, and who wrote the foreword to Oh, What a Lovely Memoir
Tumblr media
Larry Dann's diverse film career included some major Hollywood productions and a joyous experience working with David Niven, who we learn was just as charming, generous and friendly as his image portrayed, and neatly bookended the Carry On franchise, appearing in one of the earliest offerings, Teacher (1959), and in the final three of the original run; Behind (1976), England (1977), and the widely maligned, notorious Emmannuelle (1978).
Tumblr media
With Carol Hawkins, Sherrie Hewson and Brian Osborne in Carry On Behind
He also carved out a lucrative sideline in television commercials, working with some of the pioneering directors in that field, including Alan Parker, and Ridley and Tony Scott.
Larry Dann writes with pragmatic honesty about family troubles growing up, and the rollercoaster working life of an actor even with major roles in their CV. Oh, What a Lovely Memoir is a recommended read with some wonderful insights into the evolution of entertainment in post-war Britain.
Larry Dann was one of the first stars of The Bill to be interviewed by Oliver Crocker for The Bill Podcast.

MAG7 - The Piper
I like this statement, it's not my top 1 but is quite close. Of course I'm biased, we often forgot the Great War and pay way more attention to the second one, even it the first was also terrible we can't deny it is painfully overshadowed by its successor. Which pains me, every belic conflict big or small it's a tragedy on its own and mistakes made by the human race upon which we should reflect. Is anyone here familiar with Shackleton's expedition? Has anyone watched Flyboys? I suppose Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman it's quite known.
Anyway, I'm rambling.
Quotes that stuck with me:
"It came as no surprise to me when he mentioned he wrote poetry. To be perfectly honest I expected him to be dead within a week." - Staff Sergeant Clarence Berry, about Wilfred Owens, November 6th, 1922
hm, is he talking shit about poets? probably
"To Wilfred’s credit, he made it almost a year before anything horrendous happened to him, and by the following spring I’d venture to say that we might almost have been able to call each other friends." - Clarence again
I will translate this one for you my pals, here he is saying: "so I adopted the weirdo as one does"
"I remember exactly what he said. He told me it had three faces. One to play its pipes of scrimshawed bone, one to scream its dying battle cry and one that would not open its mouth, for when it did blood and sodden soil flowed out like a waterfall. Those arms that did not play the pipes were gripping blades and guns and spears, while others raised their hands in futile supplication of mercy, and one in a crisp salute. It wore a tattered coat of wool, olive green where it was not stained black, and beneath, nothing could be seen but a body beaten, slashed and shot and until nothing remained but the wounds themselves." - Clarence quoting Wilfred, who definitely "met the war"
this. is. chilling
"Did you know Hamelin is a real place in Germany?" - I do Know this one is from Clarence and it sounds haunted AF, but I can't help but snort when Jon says it
"I began to wonder: were we the children stolen from their parents by The Piper’s tune? Or were we the rats that were led to the river and drowned because they ate too much of the wealthy’s grain?" - Clarence "I'm not a poet" Berry
*Spiderman Peter Burrito Parker's voice* Look, now he's going to say he's not a poet.
"Still, those are musings for poets, among whom I do not number." - Also Clarence
Could have fouled me once, bud
"Well, if further evidence was needed of my predecessor’s disorganisation, here we have it. A statement from 1922 filed among the mid-2000s." - Jon "why am I haunted by the ghost of my predeccessor?" Sims, April 6th 2016
lmao Jon, what a way to slap me into the present
Small review:
What can I say that I haven't said yet? It gives me goossebumps.
Sergeant Overview:
Vibe: chills, literal chills while listening to this one
Horror: just horror, but in the old fashioned way, the one that doesn't need much to scare you
Audio: the music makes it creepier
Humour: again, grumpy men being grumpy, which never fails to make me smile I guess
Score: 10/10

"SAYS GUN HAND HELD WHILE HEAD STRUCK," Toronto Star. January 5, 1943. Page 2. ---- Police Officer Describes Fight With Two Men in Theatre Break-In ---- 9 VARIED CHARGES ---- Sequel to an attack upon P.C.William Skimmings, of the York township police, last October, John Kippax and Wilfred Blaney appeared before Judge James Parker in county criminal court today, on a charge of breaking into the Grant theatre, Oakwood Ave. Kippax pleaded guilty and Blaney not guilty.
Norman Borins appeared for the crown and B. J. Spencer Pitt for the defence.
In all there are nine varied charges against the accused, but the crown is proceeding with the entering charges only at present. Other principal charges in connection with the Grant theatre yet to be heard are carrying concealed weapons and resisting arrest by, and wounding, the constable.
Skimmings testified he found a door on the theatre had been jimmied.
"I went into the office and saw two men working on the safe," he said.
"Handle Chopped Off" "I saw some iron bars on the floor and the handle of the safe chopped off. I drew my revolver and turned my flashlight. In response to my command, the two men raised their hands. As I approached, Blaney reached toward a windbreaker on the safe. At the same time he reached toward his hip pocket and drew out a revolver. Before he could level it, it fell from his hand. Then he jumped on me and grabbed my gun hand. He hung on desperately.
"While I was struggling with him. Kippax picked up a crowbar from the floor and struck me on the head with it, cutting my scalp. I was treated by a nearby doctor."
The officer said that as Kippax struck him. he turned to grapple with him. Then his flashlight went out.
"As I fought with Kippax, Blaney dashed out," the officer went on. "I managed to overpower Kippax and handcuff him. Then I started in pursuit of Blaney. As I did this. Kippax cried out: 'Don't follow him, he's got a gun. I don't want to get shot. I went out to the street and saw Blaney running."
Identifies Glove Sergt. Norman Taylor said he found five live cartridges in a green windbreaker. two in a revolver lying on the floor and two others lying around. He also identified a glove and other articles at the scene.
"When I put Kippax in the cells," he added, "he had only one glove. on."
Inspector Alfred Gray, of York township, said he later arrested Blaney in a rooming-house.
"Blaney had a cut on his face. It was fresh. He told me he had been hurt in a fight the previous night at Jarvis and Dundas Sts.," the officer stated.

Come hai conosciuto Jaywork Music Group?

203) CEDADE (od inicjałów Círculo Español de Amigos de Europa, Spanish Circle of Friends of Europe, „Hiszpańskie Koło Przyjaciół Europy”) - hiszpańska grupa neonazistowska, zajmowała się koordynacją międzynarodowej działalności i publikowaniem. Licząc Léona Degrelle wśród swoich czołowych członków, Koło stało się grupą badawczą i wydawnictwem materiałów dotyczących nazizmu i negowania holokaustu, z zadaniem zacieśniania współpracy w całej Europie.

Hi. I was talking with my best friend and we were going over the rogues of Young Justice and who had which person as their common adversary such as Tim with all of Batman's rogues being his and the point of it was that when they were all adults who would be their own personal nemesis? Batman has The Joker clearly, Superman with Lex Luthor, The Flash and Reverse Flash, Wonder Woman and Cheetah etc but what about the YJ crew especially Bart? Who would be Bart's main nemesis when he's an adult?
Did you forget about Thad Thawne?
Thad Thawne is absolutely Bart's main nemesis NOW in current, no matter how much Thad deserves and SHOULD get a redemption arc (which likely will never happen considering Fastest Man Alive is canon again).
I also really am hesitant to say Tim's rogues are just Batman's rogues because he ran into a lot of other people and themes in his own comics on a fair basis that there are other options available. Also it looks like the one responsible for Young Justice Dark Crisis (Mxyzptlk's son, allegedly) has already decided Tim is his nemesis (see Tim Drake's Pride Special).
***Edit*** Mickey was in fact NOT the person who Tim is currently up against in his comics. When this was written, it was assumed they were going to be the same.
King Shark (yes, he's a Superboy character) with Kay Fury as well as Amanda Spence (allegedly dead) are Kon's in his own comics but having them extend into the future with him as an adult is... iffy. His 2011 solo comic had Simon Valentine (his FRIEND) being setup as his Lex Luthor with a parallel narrative as well but meh, I really liked Simon and I just want these heroes to have fucking civilian friends and have their own rogues not just mirror their assumed mentor's.
Bart however is a little more tricky because in his own comics he rarely had reoccurring villains (Thad) that truly wanted to harm him (Thad), and many of them were more Max's adversaries anyway or were guest rogues.
We do have a few however but I do not foresee them as being a problem for Bart when he is older. But they could be brought back for fun.
For fun let's just explore a few interesting people from Bart's run that were presented as villains, see if they are a candidate for future rogue-ness, then I will tell you my own personal pick for his true nemesis that isn't Thad.
White Lightning
The first 'major adversary' we see is White Lightning who has some mild 'pheromone mind control' that allows her to manipulate men just like Poison Ivy, only she has not shown any murderous intentions.
Tumblr media
Impulse #80
She shows up early on in his series, and she shows up every now and then and is predominately a thief who uses adolescent boys to assist her in her heists.
Tumblr media
Impulse #4
She would make a GREAT current 'rogue' because she's basically a social media influencer. She uses the internet of 1995 to attract potential 'gang members', and she even has her own merch! This would translate VERY WELL for today for a morally gray rogue.
She's FUN, but she's not really a villain so she's out for being Bart's nemesis. She's more like a Robin Hood character than a true crook (a Robin Hood that KEEPS the money).
Likelihood of being a future rogue: 6/10
lmfao white lightning has her own merch but bart doesn't
Evil Eye Eddie/Wilfred Parker (once called "Danny" by his dad)
His first appearance is in Impulse is in issue #27 and he shows up on the regular up until the near end of the series. He's a very well written character that when he first shows up he is a thug and a bully that wants nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of his father, and grandfather (Dr. Morlo) and be a super villain, and a gang member.
As time progresses with him in the series, we see that he does not actually have the disposition to do what he needs to do in order to be that, but he still retains a shitty attitude which makes him more likable. He also has a friendship with Rolly that from everything we see is genuine and he does care about him. One day I'll make a meta post about Eddie because he's fascinating as fuck.
Tumblr media
Impulse #47
Evil Eye also finds out on his own who Bart is later and doesn't tell anyone about it so he's not a good candidate for being a rogue of Bart's later. Dr. Morlo couldn't even keep up with being Max's rogue and they instead have a divorced spouse relationship. It would be fun to have him back though. I want him to meet Stephanie Brown.
Likelihood of being a future rogue: 1/10
Pocket Pal
A better contender is Pocket Pal who was penned for issue #60 by the legendary Dwayne McDuffie (yes, Milestone's McDuffie. RIP).
His particular abilities were similar to Chester Runk's aka The Chunk in that he had a pocket dimension in which he could put an infinite number of things into. He was slick, angry, and a young thief who could definitely grow up into a regular rogue for Bart to deal with later.
Tumblr media
Impulse #60
I could absolutely see him coming back as an adult rogue for Bart to deal with on occasion. There's a lot of writing potential for a character that has a bag of infinite carrying.
Name's gotta change though. I like Supermassive (as in black hole) but I do not write for DC and I likely never will so Pocket Pal it is.
Likelihood of being a future rogue: 8/10
Honorable Mention: Shanela
Shanela first shows up in Issue #82 and she and her twin sister Shantay both have the ability to manifest illusions. Shanela is just an A N G R Y teen, and her sister Shantay is seen as the one who is constantly trying to keep her in check.
Tumblr media
Impulse #83
Shanela has a great narrative and she deals with a lot of internal teenage negativity and low self esteem. She does not really use her power to physically hurt anyone but she definitely has enough anger and hatred towards her peers to get to that point and probably would have had Bart not intervened. Her weakness it turned out was dogs as she is petrified of them.
She was a fascinating 'villain' and it would be fun to see her and her sister again; whether working together as some sort of hero team, working against each other, or simply being civilian metas.
Likelihood of being a future rogue: 5/10 (it's circumstantial)
And now... The person I feel personally strong about being Bart's rogue (other than Thad)...
Bedlam/Matthew Stuart
There's something about a Speedster having an adversary that has infinite power and ability through use of magic that just offers infinite potential when it comes to possible stories. It's terrifying and exciting. When it comes to this particular character however we have established history AND motivation and this character has already mentioned that he HATES Bart (and his friends) and will absolutely given the opportunity wreck his life just out of spite.
Good god don't let him team up with Thad.
Tumblr media
Impulse #85
For context here we first meet Matthew in the story that started Young Justice. JLA: World Without Grownups and he is supposed to be a brat even before he comes into his powers.
Tumblr media
Now, you can make the argument here that he is justifiably irritated that his father almost did not make it back in time for his 13th birthday, and that his family dynamic is not the best here, and there is probably some toxic dynamic but he's also a moody teen with some anger at the world that helps him along the path of being Bedlam. You can read this scene as him being a brat, or you can read it as him just being a normal kid dealing with loneliness and acting out. Either way, things go bad quick.
He comes into his powers by accident from that clearly stolen archeological artifact his father dug up, someone get Arthur because the Atlantean artifact contains the magical power of Garn Daanuth.
Tumblr media
He becomes possessed by this entity Bedlam and immediately changes reality to mirror something he finds fitting; one without grownups where children rule.
Eventually he is apprehended by Tim, Kon and Bart and it is Bart who is key to finally beating him.
Tumblr media
Matt remembers Bart very fervently when he shows back up 2 years later without the entity, but with all of his powers roiling through him (TLDR the actual entity was able to be born as a mortal human being and he ditched his magical powers and they went back to Matt).
Tumblr media
Impulse #85
Matt to me would be top tier level for an original adversary for Bart specifically considering he targeted Bart (and other members of Young Justice but not the the same extreme as Bart).
He has history, motivation, and a kick ass power that would be nothing short than mayhem any time he showed up.
Now YES he did technically lose all his powers (Bart again, foiled him) and they jumped into Bart's body, but there is no real reason to not have Matt regain the abilities in some way. These are comics, after all.
I feel that in a hypothetical scenario where Bart had to have primary rogue that was not Thad it would be Matt Stuart 100%.
So these are just my own thoughts and Bart certainly dealt with a lot more than just those I have listed but this was still fun to explore and I hope this got you thinking into the subject of hypotheticals and maybe it inspired some fan works.
Thank you for the probing question!

Thinking about Impulse 1995 and how near the end Eddie gave Bart something before he left and it's just never brought up again. Like, we don't know what it is. It's implied that Eddie figured out Bart was Impulse or at least that he had some interaction with his grandfather, Dr. Morlo, but we never find out if he really did.
Eddie's redemption storyline in general really never gets finished, like, I just feel like they had plans for him that they just couldn't get to because the comic ended. Maybe they were going to have a redemption arc for him and tie it into a redemption arc for Thad? Like, show Bart that people can get better especially when coming from bad situations with Eddie in his civilian life and then apply it to Thad? Maybe they were planning to have him replace Carol as the civilian ally? Like, I want to know.
I've thought about this way to much but I just really think they were planning something and I want to know what.

"YOUTHS SENT TO 'PEN ON ROBBERY CHARGES," Toronto Star. January 14, 1943. Page 9. ---- John Kippax Given Five Years, Wilfred Blaney Three Years --- John Kippax, 20, [TOP] and Wilfred Blaney, 22, were sentenced to the penitentiary by Judge James Parker in county criminal court today.
Kippax, who pleaded guilty to charges of breaking an entering. resisting arrest, wounding an officer, robbing while armed, and two charges of receiving, was sentenced to five years on the robbery charge, one year for the entry, two years on each of the resisting and wound- ing charges, nine months for receiving a stolen electric drill, and 12 months for receiving stolen gasoline ration books. The sentences are concurrent.
Blaney, who was convicted of breaking and entering, having illegal possession of a revolver, armed robbery and receiving a stolen revolver, was given three years for the first offence, three years on the second, seven years on the third, and 18 months on the last, the whole to run concurrently with the seven-year term.
Arrest of the pair came as a result of a break-in at the Grant theatre, Oakwood Ave., last Oct. 24. Constable William Skimmings, York township, entered the theatre and I found two men trying to open the safe. He ordered them to put up their hands. Blaney pulled a loaded revolver from his pocket. The weapon caught in the cloth and fell to the floor. He jumped on the constable and wrestled for the officer's gun. Kippex, according to testimony, picked up a crowbar and struck the officer on the hand, inflicting a severe wound.
[AL: Kippax was 22, single, unemployed, an American immigrant to Canada of Irish background, and had no previous criminal record. He was convict #7171 at Kingston Penitentiary and worked in the excavation department. In March 1944 he was transferred to Manitoba Penitentiary, becoming inmate #5320, and was employed in a mail bag shop there. He was released in late 1948. Blaney, or Beaney, was 22, a farmer employed outside Toronto, was also Irish Canaidan, and had been in the reformatory three times. He was transferred March 1944 to Saskatchewan Penitentiary, becoming inmate #4280. He was one of a number of 'Kingston boys' who caused trouble there and helped organize a strike in mid-1944. He was paroled in 1949.]

Kinda cracky Impulse thought
From the old ‘90s comic. Eddie (Evil-Eye) grows up and hooks up with White Lightning. The idea just tickles my funny bone. They’re both kinda bad, but not really bad.  Max 6 years between, maybe less, so once grown that’s a non-issue.  He may actually have a more successful criminal history than her.
Also, one or the other is a lineman. Just sayin’, it could suit either of them.
