The Girls' Hair (Part 2)

Stella

As a royal, Stella isn't allowed to have any distracting accessories in her hair, and always has to an elegant and neat appearance. She's constantly trying to push the limits of the rules by styling her hair in a way that suits whatever outfit she's wearing. She takes a lot of pride in maintaining the health and appearance of her hair.

Flora

Flora naturally incorporates ribbons and flowers that reminds her of the time she used to spend playing with her sister in the forests of Linphea. She often braids her hair due to how much time she spends hiking in the wilderness, or working within a lab, so she enjoys be have a little fun while doing it.

Musa

After losing her mother, Musa has grown a resentment towards her long hair. She finds comfort in keeping it short, and always makes sure to cut it before it grows out too long.

Later on, after confronting and healing some of her trauma, she discovers a new appreciation for her long hair. Trying different styles as she grows it out again.

Rules for the Winx Club's dorm

(Inspired by rules for 1-A)

Bloom: Please stop trying to use your powers in the dorms, you've set off the fire alarm so many times that all the other students think it's broken

Stella: While it's impressive you can do your make-up while sparring, please stop. I can't grade your technique if you are distracted and not trying your best

Flora: No eco crimes of any caliber or I'm banning you from the greenhouse 

Tecna: Stop breaking through Alfea's defenses as a "test" of your skill. You are going to let someone slip in one of these days. I will make you a barrier to play around with, just stop doing it to the main one

Musa: Please keep your music at an acceptable volume

Hearing other people playing music is NOT a challenge

Aisha: Stop climbing the outside of the school. I will find somewhere for you to rock climb, you're scaring the other students by climbing past their windows 

Stop telling the other students Bloom is God. Being the Fairy that holds the power of the Great Dragon's Flame, is not the same thing as being the Great Dragon

Bloom: Stop using your powers to convince the other students you are God

Someone using purple magic is NOT bulletproof evidence that they are Darcy. Stop attacking random students

Bloom: That goes double for you

Stella: Stop telling people Tecna is a robot

Tecna: Stop using your prosthetics to help Stella convince people you are a robot

Musa: Stop giving them new ideas

Flora: While your "onion fumes" spell is incredibly creative and amazingly useful in combat scenarios, I ask that you only use it during outdoor sparring. Making everyone's eyes burn while your sparring is something we want to avoid

Musa: The Cloud Tower girls are thankful that Riven drew the attention of monsters to make their escape, they are not "hussies" attempting to "take" anything from you. Stop trying to fight them

Saladin being unable to say no to Helia is not grounds to abuse this fact to get your hands on random specialist weapons, you've already put yourselves in the infirmary multiple times. At least get someone to train you 

Aisha: This is not a challenge

Flora: Covering your enemies in hornet-attracting pollen is not an acceptable tactic to deal with bullies, please just tell me about it next time

Stop daring Aisha to do random things to see if she's naturally good at it. She probably is

Aisha: Your honor is not lost just because you can't tie a cherry stem with your tongue. Stop adding random things to your training regiment

Amaryl throwing an attack at Stella, which she batted away without a second thought, is not an acceptable reason to make a morphix monster specifically programmed to chase her around the school. I was going to expel her for that stunt anyway

Not trusting new teachers is understandable, hazing them and dumping potions of revealing on them is not. I will let you give them potions in a controlled environment

The hallways are not a controlled environment

Bloom: A specialist telling you that you'd be "prettier if you smiled" is appropriate grounds for flipping him off, not breaking his nose

Aisha: You too

Tecna: You as well

Bloom: Saying "this is exactly what her ghost warned me of" about random things in the middle of a conversation is not acceptable behavior. You are scaring the freshmen

"As the prophecy foretold" is not much better 

Just because Wizigiz says something is ok does not actually make it ok

Stella: Stop making up magical artifacts. I've gotten 16 different questions about completely made-up objects and it's obvious you're the one doing this 

Tecna: At least pretend to pay attention in class. I know you already know most of these things but building a robot on your desk distracts the other students 

Musa: Riven leaving you on "read" is not an acceptable reason to hijack the announcement system to play break-up songs, he probably just checked his phone in between training. Stop doing this. We have actual announcements to make

At least try to be subtle about the fact that you girls are under different rules than the rest of the school. The freshmen are starting to get ideas, and I don't want to deal with that many students in detention

Especially when sneaking your boyfriends in. Yes, I know. None of you are subtle 

Tecna: Stop hacking into the royal students' phones and systems. You are going to start an intergalactic war. Airing out Royalty's dirty laundry is only acceptable if it's really bad, and at least warn me first so I can find a political advisor

Aisha: Stop training the pixie animals to attack people you don't like

Bloom: Tell someone when you're going to take a surprise vacation home, last time Stella woke up the entire wing of the dorms with her screaming because she thought you were kidnapped 

If you're going to get payback for Griffin giving you the runaround when you were at Cloud Tower at least don't get caught. Griffin is somehow more annoying when she's smug

Musa: Stop trying to get the girls to start a band with you, Tecna is tone-deaf, I know you're just doing this to annoy people. Stop it

Tecna: Making a complication of Erendor and Samara making fools of themselves is funny, hacking the projector system to show it during an assembly is not. Just mass text it to everyone, I know you can, you didn't need to do that

If your going to skip class because of a magical emergency it better be a real emergency or I'm going to tell your teachers to start grading your missed assignments

Stella: A bad hair day is not an emergency 

Aisha: Stop intentionally riling up Riven when he's at the doom, I don't care how funny you find annoying him is, just because we can fix property damage with magic doesn't make it acceptable

Stella: Stop biting people. Just stop. It's unsanitary

Do not have Riven, Sky, and Helia at your dorm at the same time. I've heard how those two can get when Helia is there to instigate and I'm not dealing with that. If I get a hint of those three being around at the same time I'm giving you all detention

On that note, if Riven and Sky are going to be in the dorms either keep them in different rooms or have Brandon there to mediate

Tecna and Musa: Stop using your powers to freak out the freshmen when you tell them stories of your battles

Stop using your power to freak out Stella in general 

Stop trying to freak out Flora, it won't work

Flora: Just because you haven't blown anything up in the lab yet, doesn't mean your experiments are permitted 

Musa: Please control your pixie. She's convinced half the students she has the authority to give them detention, and while she's not wrong about their punishments, she can't keep doing this

Bloom: Lording your newfound strength above your enemies is not an acceptable way to use magic. If you're going to mess with this "Mitzi" do it during the breaks 

Please be aware of who is around when you ask Brandon questions about his life as a royal guard. Ophelia has had multiple girls show up because they overheard him talking about torture in graphic detail

Flora: Please warn me when you invite Miele over. Yes, only you and only Miele. I can't even begin to describe the amount of chaos that child can cause with her bugs

If you don't warn me I'm banning all of your siblings from visiting 

Bloom: Please stop avoiding the staff's questions about Kiko. He can perfectly comprehend language. Why can he comprehend language Bloom

Warnings: angsty turned fluff, self hate

You weren't very liked by your friends anymore. They didn't trust you as much after Valtor took control of you and things were spoken about. Bloom was the most upset. You understand her but for the others, it was uncalled for. Yes, you said hurtful things but that wasn't you. You weren't dark.

They were forced to take you to earth to fight against the Wizards of the Black Circle. You ended up mostly staying away unless there was a fight even then you were pushed away. Every time you wanted to cry but you didn't. At least until you got home that wasn't with them. You had gotten your own apartment although Bloom's adoptive parents offered for you to stay since you were the one left out. You denied that offer.

You started to enjoy the simple life. You kept in contact with Faragonda yourself only. After this one battle, you noticed Ogron watching you leave and clearly not with the others.

Ogron had noticed how you clearly were left out of those girl's group. That really made him mad. For faires claiming to be good, they did not act like it. He remembered the first time he met them you had gotten hurt and they didn't even try to help you. He always helped his men even if they made him mad. They did that for each other.

You were sobbing in your bed at the small apartment you rented out. You hadn't detransformed. Ironically you didn't believe in yourself anymore. You were a fuck up.

"I'm just useless and I don't deserve to be this fairy Faragonda says I am." you cried. You just hugged your stuff bear. The winx doesn't know that you are planning on staying even after this mission is done.

"I don't think you're useless. I think you are strong." A voice said. It sounded familiar. You didn't look to see.

"Yes, I am. I don't have friends all because I let someone control me." You muttered.

"I would have never thought they were your friends before. They don't even seem to include you in anything." He said. You nodded and laughed bitterly.

"They aren't my friends anymore. In fact, they are strangers I'm forced to work with."

"No one is forced to work with people." He concluded. The person had sat at the end of your bed and was rubbing your back. "Honestly, there are better things you could use your abilities with." He added.

"Like what? Protect fairies who don't even want their guardian." She scoffed.

"Join me and my men." He said flatly. "We will make sure you are useful and cared for." You looked up hearing that. It was Ogron. You didn't even want to fight and didn't even seem like he wanted to.

"Don't you hate fairies?" You asked. He chuckled and shook his head.

"No, I just want to try to get revenge on earth fairies for what the queen did." He sighed. "Killed my men and stole my kid away."

"You had a child?"

"Yes, they are here somewhere on Gardenia. I don't want to harm them."

"I will help on one condition..."

"Anything you want we can do." He smiled and gently rubbed your tears away.

"I want to stay here and have a life." You included. He nodded.

"Anything for you my dear." He called you.

He ended up staying with you for the night and holding you. You just let your emotions out. You had passed out sleeping after an hour. You woke up with a note left.

'I wish I could have stayed but the girls were finding my daughter first. Meet me here my dear.' He said. You looked at your phone. No messages from them and you weren't surprised. You got yourself of bed and got dressed. You grabbed an apple and headed to the address. When you arrived the Winx girls didn't even notice. Ogron did.

"Hello dear, I see you saw the note." He said smiling at you. You blushed at the nickname and nodded.

"Yeah, I did." You replied going over to him. The girls watched in shock. You didn't even look at them.

"What are you doing?" Bloom asked you bitterly. You just laughed.

"Helping those who need it." You said blankly.

"But w-" Flora started and you stopped her.

"You NEVER needed me anymore. You can't forgive me for what happened and just will treat me like trash? Does that sound like you need me?" You asked. They just narrowed their eyes at you.

'Fine be like that." Stella said. You just stayed close to Ogron.

"Did you find your daughter?" You asked him. He nodded.

"Yes, I did. Roxy is her name and she is going to meet us soon."

"Us?"

"Of course, you can be a mother to her. After all, you are now a part of the family." He said. You just hugged him.

"Thank you," you whispered.

The Girls' Hair (Part 1)

Decided to post something a bit different because I've been thinking about it a lot. I have the vision of all the girls in my head, that I hope to get commissioned one day, but for now I'll just post bits and pieces here.

One thing I've really liked thinking about was the girls' hair because I think hair can tell a lot about who a person is, and that it often changes as they do.

Aisha

To preface, I love Aisha/Layla's hair in the OG series, but I just have a special affinity for locs, and then I saw The Little Mermaid last year, so it basically secured my vision.

Anyways, I imagine Aisha with long locs, since she's been growing them since she was a child. Throughout the years she's experimented with different styles and such, but she mainly keeps her styling to a minimum since she's very active. She enjoys sewing shells and beads from Andros into them, so she can always have a little bit of home with her.

Bloom

I imagine Bloom having more curly/wavy hair. She goes through the phase of thinking she needs to straighten it like many do, but ultimately realizing it's fine to embrace it. She fluctuates between occasionally straightening out her hair and wearing it naturally. Hair is also a comfort/shield for Bloom, so she likes to keep it long. However, sometimes she cuts bangs and layers, so she feels like she's trying a new hairstyle. More often than not, she keeps it simple.

Tecna

In the beginning I imagine Tecna keeping her hair very neat and clean. The cuts are angled, blunt, and precise. She rarely lets her hair grow past her shoulders because she doesn't want to spend time brushing through and styling long hair. She's not afraid of cutting her hair if at any point she doesn't feel like dealing with it. She often shaves the sides and/or underside, so there's less to maintain.

Later on, Tecna grows more comfortable with having "messier" hair, and comes to view her hair as another outlet to express herself. She starts to just have fun with it, letting her friends give her all kinds of cuts, patterns, and lengths.

How Daphne Haunts the Narrative

I love the concept of a character haunting the narrative. Just… ugh I can’t even explain it.

My favorite examples of this are Sejannus and Lucy Gray in the Hunger Games.

I always found the concept of Daphne to be a very interesting one in the OG, this girl who was a Nymph and an amazing fairy sacrificing it all for her sister and winding up a ghost in a lake.

But I felt like that concept was never used to it’s full potential.

So… I tried to do just that.

In my rewrite, Daphne is almost this larger-than-life entity. She wasn’t just Bloom’s sister. 

She was an amazing fairy in her own right, she was a Nymph and the best Guardian of the Dragon Flame that’d been seen in centuries. On top of all of that, she was a dedicated Princess.

That’s part of what makes her tragic, she was the best, and she was still taken down.

Now, Daphne’s situation isn’t what I would call a proper haunting of the narrative, but she’s definetly very present in the way that, in some way or another, almost everything leads back to her.

Bloom is haunted by the idea of having to live up to Daphne, the more she learns about her sister the more she feels like she won’t be able to do just that. 

Bloom’s haunted by the memory everyone has of her sister, everyone who remembers Daphne has an insane level of respect for her and misses her dearly. That’s something that can intimidate Bloom from time to time and even make her jealous.

Then, there’s the fact that, if Domino hadn’t fallen and Daphne hadn’t been cursed, then Bloom wouldn’t even be a fairy in the first place.

Daphne gave up, not just the Flame but also a big part of her own power in order to keep Bloom safe and give her the power she would need to be the Guardian of the Flame.

Due to this, Bloom is haunted by guilt and resentment. Guilt due to the fact that pretty much everything she has could technically be seen as something that was ‘taken’ from Daphne. There comes the guilt, which then meets… resentment. Guilty resentment towards Daphne for giving her the Flame and being the action that drops the dominoes towards arguably every bad thing in Bloom’s life.

So, Bloom’s view and relationship of/with Daphne, is complicated to say the least.

This is something I love, since it allows for Bloom’s complex feelings to turn into something that I feel a lot of little sisters can relate to, just the confusion of loving and adoring your sister but also feeling jealousy and resentment and just, not being sure whether you should be like them and trying to be your own person when you have the same teachers… I think it’s kinda relatable in a way. If you take away all the magical shenanigans of course.

This is how Daphne haunts Bloom specifically, but this is named after the narrative, so how does Daphne haunt the very narrative of Veiled Wings?

That, is a very interesting question that has a bit of a complicated answer.

There are two ways in which Daphne haunts the narrative.

The first is ala Star Wars; the story ‘rhyming’. I don’t know if you’ve watched this very old interview with George Lucas but he said something along the lines of “the story rhymes”, what this means is that the same beats occur in the story, in opposite or contrasting ways. They ‘rhyme’.

This is what happens with Daphne and Bloom, in a sense, their stories rhyme.

Both grow up a bit lonely, both find their heart and soul in Alfea. Both make life-long friends there. Bloom finds her connections with fellow fairies while Daphne preffered witches and warlocks and Palladins.

They meet Tabitha and Stella, both with similar personalities but opposite powers. Avalon and Timmy, with the same habit of diving head first into research about anything they’re passionate about and being just a little (unapologetically) weird.

Then there’s their romances. Both Daphne and Bloom have tragedies as romances. Daphne and Valtor started off great, it was their ending that was oh so tragic. While, for Bloom and Sky, it’s Valtor that turns them into a tragedy in the middle of their relationship.

Politea and Selina, both dear friends lost to inner darkness.

Bloom’s story parallels a lot of Daphne’s. (Even if a lot of it is stuff that I just made up that hasn’t really been mentioned or explained).

The second way in which Daphne haunts the narrative, is that, like I mentioned before, almost everything leads back to Daphne in some way or another.

A lot of the villains or people we encounter have ties to her or are situations that she began/participated in in some kind of way.

Darkar was created in part due to Daphne. Darkar attacks Daphne, in turn, Valtor curses him and he becomes the red skeleton we know and love. Daphne is his origin story.

Before Bloom fought Icy, Daphne fought Icy’s cousin and her coven, who was the first to awaken the Ancestral Witches spirit. That is one parallel that I really like just, adding to the fight even if neither Icy nor Bloom are fully aware of the history of previous family also fighting.

Teachers we know (Griselda, Tabitha and Avalon most of all though Codatorta and Palladium also fall here) were once friends with Daphne.

Valtor’s entire reason for fighting is avenging and trying to bring back Daphne. And of course, the Ancestral Witches are locked away in time back in Domino as Daphne’s final act as a warrior. 

The end of Daphne’s story sets up the world the Winx start off in.

In a sense, all roads lead back to her.

The narrative can’t escape Daphne’s past actions, her choices, her story rhymes with Bloom’s and a lot of what happens in the story happens due to Daphne’s past and things that she once did.

I always felt like she was never fully utilized in the OG show and I really wanted to have her be a nearly constant presence, I wanted her to be perhaps even more than a ghost.

And thus, the idea of her haunting the narrative and Bloom.
