in regards to that text post you tagged as hunlow followed by "listen to me". i have a chair. i am sitting down. i'm listening if you want to explain.

Waaah I am all jumbled up so this is not gonna be very eloquent but lemme do a little word vomit here.

Anyway. The poem 'Yes & No' by Natalie Wee and the complete huntlow overload it gives me every time I read it.

It works from both their perspectives on how they view the other person. Those parallels do be paralleling. I might blabber about it from Hunter's POV....another day. But because the poem is written by a woman and refers to a 'Him' lets focus on Willow's side of things. It's the side that gives me the most brainrot anyway. I really do love a good subversion. A girl who thinks she is too monstrous for a boy whom she views as too gentle.

I think very often about Willow's relationship with her own powers. The show went somewhat into depth about how being 'Half a Witch' destroyed her confidence. The part of her that could not excel at anything that wasn't plant-centric. There's nothing particularly complex about her feelings of inferiority. It's very easy to understand. She's Mildred Hubble coded.

HOWEVER it's also shown in her debut episode that Willow losing control of her emotions can lead to big destructive outbursts. This is the part that was touched on as a conflict in For the Future, but was never really explored at length.

This ability of hers is extremely dangerous. She can severely hurt both herself and the people around her. Surely, that must be a frightening reality for a little girl to live with.

I wonder when these outbursts first started. I wonder if that incident in the detention pit was the first time her own magic nearly killed her. I wonder if something happened on the day of Amity's birthday party when little Willow felt like she had lost everything. I wonder a lot of things. But mostly I wonder how being like this since she was young has effected Willow's mindset, her behaviour and her complexes. What does she think of herself? Is she afraid of what she's capable of? Is she afraid of her own emotions?

Anyway, with that in mind. Here is the poem. Beat by beat.

reasons to not kiss him:

1. you weren’t raised to love tender.

Willow was born and raised to be a sweet gentle girl with a soft spot for plants. She's silly and lighthearted yet mature for her age and tries to remain rational in irrational situations. She allows hugs from Gus and she allows Luz's touchy affection and cooing over how cute she is.

But by "love tender", I interpret it as Willow not knowing how to love and be loved in a way that puts her in a vulnerable position. The bleeding open wound kind of love. She's already been thrown away once in her life like she's something disposable so she has decided that it will inevitably happen again. Willow has already braced herself for Luz and Gus finding other friends and leaving her behind. She's loved them so sweetly this whole time but she's always been keeping them at arm's length, scared to pour too much of her heart into their hands. She's simply savouring the time she has with them until they drift away.

But Hunter is a different story. There is something about him that demands she love tender. And it's terrifying that she feels the pressure to do so. And it's even more terrifying that she so badly wants to.

2. when he’s around all you do is tremble. when he’s around you want to get on your knees. look how much power he has over you. it’s dangerous.

Willow is a girl who has been carelessly discarded like her feelings meant nothing, made to feel like she was a waste of an existence and who is also deathly afraid of herself and the unstable magical battery pulsing inside of her. This results in having to lock up her more reckless emotions in order to keep everyone safe, but also to protect her own heart. She's gotten good at it. And she's also now perceived as an iron clad witch who cannot be weakened.

But the presence of Hunter reveals something very concerning. She can be weakened. His smile and his voice and his entire disposition is a breach of the barriers she has spent years building. He is capable of puncturing her clean through. And the part that makes her lips tighetn is that he's not even aware of it.

It doesn't sound so foreboding on the surface. So what if he can make her smile until she can't stop smiling? So what if he can make her laugh until she's breathless? But then she'd have to regain herself and realize that as harmless as that is, it's a result of her losing control of her emotions. Which she rarely does anymore. And it's all because of him with his soft eyes and his kind smile and his shy adoration for her.

And if he can do that, he can do far worse to her. That's the scary part.

3. he’s too good at forgiving and you’re too good at violence.

4. you know what they say about monsters. you know what happens to the boys who love them. are you going to do that to him?

5. your hands don’t know how to be gentle. think about the last beautiful thing that shattered in your palms. the fresh rosebuds crumbling between your fingers like a bruise. you wolf-boy, you war machine. you wouldn’t know how to hold something magic and not destroy it.

Willow is not stupid. She's not unobservant. Hunter did not need to stay a word for her to realize that he is a boy who has been wronged by someone who he loved with his whole aching heart. He has been hurt in a way that will leave his heart aching forever and ever.

But it's a sharp sting to know that in spite of that, he continues to fall deeply in love with every person who shows him compassion. Nothing can burn out his warm glow. He loves and he loves until he's sick with the stuff. And Willow doesn't know how he does it, but his glow is so nice to graze in. Once you get too close to him, you don't want to leave.

When Willow hugs him, his fingers tentatively twist into the sleeves of her cardigan. She sees how he looks at her and she knows he'd like nothing more than to squeeze her tight and drown in her.

He's in love with Willow the way he's in love with everything and she desperately wants to give him everything.

She wants to place her hands on his cheeks and watch as she melts into her palms, finally satiated after all he had been starving for.

She wants to fall in love with him.

But she can't. Because she knows he'd fall in love with her too.

And then eventually, she would hurt him. Like he had been hurt before.

She can't trust herself to not hurt him.

And in the aftermath of the hurt, she would cry herself hoarse with ragged apologies.

And because she was kind and because he knows she didn't mean to hurt him, he would squeeze her tight and say "It's okay."

Then she'd hurt him again.

"It's okay."

And again.

"It's okay."

A painful cycle that spins until there's barely of him left.

And Willow is scared that by that point that she'll be too weak for his soft eyes to ever let him go.

She doesn't know what will become of her.

She doesn't want to find out.

So to stay on the safe side, they will never begin.

6. if you hurt him it might kill you

7. if you hurt him you might kill yourself.

8. you are very bad at rehabilitation. this is one addiction you’d fail to give up. he’s going to ruin you for all other kisses and all other boys and you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to forget his name.

Willow has analyzed the situation and she's come to the conclusion that if she allowed this sweet boy entry to her briar n' bramble guarded heart, they'd bend to his will, clearing a path to the delicate structure. And once he holds it in his hands, he'll leave his fingerprints all over it.

This is the damage she's talking about.

The damage he can do to her.

9. you still aren’t sure he isn’t a dream.

10. if you kiss him, you might wake up.

You would think, with all this lamenting Willow does over Hunter's existence, that he's making her miserable.

Far from it.

She's reluctant to admit it, even to herself, but she's already addicted to whatever it is that he's emanating. Like a flower stretching towards the sunlight.

Sometimes he doesn't feel feel.

Typical of an overthinker to not believe that could be as wonderful as it seems.

In an ideal world, they could both make each other happy.

If she doesn't ruin everything.

Mistletoe kisses. Parasitic in nature.

What if she leeches all the light left in him?

What if a kiss is her wakeup call?

reasons to kiss him:

1. because he’s beautiful.

He's so beautiful.

2. because he asked.

He's begging. He's begging every time he looks at her. He certainly doesn't mean to. Nor does he know that he's doing it. But somehow, without saying a word, he has crumbled to his knees begging for her to pour of a little of her heart into his lips to warm his blood.

He wants her to love tender and be loved raw. And he wants to do the same.

And if she said no, he would simply reply "that's okay."

But she doesn't want to say no.

She wants to give him everything.

That's the problem.

And even worse....she is pretty sure she is about to crack.

She will give him everything.

Because...

FOR THE FUTURE!!!

         Luz just wanted to be understood… SHE WANTED TO BE UNDERSTOOD!!!!!!! That’s all she wanted and it’s so SIMPLE, it’s not about a specific life goal or agenda, just something you genuinely want! Everything she did, the antics, her weirdness, was just an attempt to show herself so people could see and UNDERSTAND!

         And Camila! The way she told Luz that life is about mess-ups. A-And she told Luz that she’s also messed up, and messed up when she didn’t stand up for Luz… And LUZ REALIZED!!! I CAN’T THIS WRITING AND ARC IS TOO DAMN GOOD!!!

         Willow my babey girl this was lowkey YOUR episode too, I’d honestly tag her as the deuteragonist of For the Future! The way she tries and carries so much, has an enormous burden on what she can do, about showing weakness, about denial! THE CALLBACKS TO BOSCHA! THE PARALLELS! The way they ended off! Willow’s biggest threat being herself, this was a WILLOW episode! And how she’s allowed to show weakness because yes, her dream of wanting to protect others, and needing to be flawed, are not mutually exclusive!

         And like damn. This episode was about, for Luz and Willow, coming to terms with their flaws. Their mistakes. Their imperfections. And ultimately idealizing and accepting those parts of themselves!

         And Hunter can now teleport… Does he have all magic or just his teleportation? Or does he have other magic and only uses teleportation lol? The way he’s so deadset on trying to get back at Belos…

         IT WAS CONFIRMED THE CLAWTHORNE ARCHWAY AND GRAVESFIELD ONE ARE CONNECTED!!! And Belos… BELOS…

         He’s SO twisted, literally melting and falling apart and OH GOD NOT RAINE WHYYYY!!!! The fact that the crew actually played around with Belos trying to possess a grimwalker, only for it to not be ready… Dear god, that poor kid that could’ve been! Could’ve been a twin brother for Hunter to bond with… AND CALEB AND THE GRIMWALKER GHOSTS!!! The one Golden Guard with BIG poofy hair!

         AND KING!!! AND EDA AND LILITH!!! He saved them, he managed to make it work, he’s so clever! And his character development, the recognition that he and the Collector are the same. The Collector afraid of being judged for what his people did, but King doesn’t! But…

         WHO WAS THE WINGED PERSON IN THE VOID?!?! The Collector’s dad?! The voice we heard when Luz last visited?

         And Belos… GOD, it’s twisted seeing Belos still managing to manipulate, KNOW this kid, recoup and turn his thoughts against himself! I was afraid it’d happen and it did! Say what you will but this man may fail but he TRIES and he’s competent, terrifyingly so! Also dammit was imagining he’d possess Odalia… Imagine Amity just nuking two enemies in one blow! Willow and Amity’s friendship too…

         AND BOSCHA BOSCHA BOSCHA!!! BOSCHA ARC!!! It’s everything I’ve read and wanted, her being so desperate to be back with Amity again, needing people, so obsessed with not showing weakness and being at the top and having control! And in the end, Amity confronts that past version of herself, and also the joke about her wanting a student council but being ‘obsessed’! I loved seeing all these kids and it’s neat that Mary’s name was mentioned in the subtitles! The way they acknowledged the Eyeball girl’s past with Gus too, MWAH! And how he knew about Hunter being a Grimwalker, but wanted to give him space!

         And Hunter AND Luz recognizing the nerdery of Camila, and geeking out over it! Luz realizing her mom DOES understand…

         EDA PLAYING WITH RAINE BECAUSE SHE LIKES TO SEE THEM! God she’s so cheeky, Raine leaves her hanging at the Coven Day Parade but that doesn’t stop Eda from pestering them over Penstagram. She’s so great y’all.

         And the Collector, god I saw it coming. The fact that they’d misunderstand and realize King DID lie to them, and wants to go against them! King realizing they don’t deserve it, the fact they were so CERTAIN and trusting! And they keep being lied to and manipulated, this poor kid… God, and the setup for Belos to possess him! To take his power in a vulnerable moment and kill all witches with it!

         Belos also canonically is haunted by visions of the past… That knife had BLOOD, y’all!

         Willow worrying about her parents, and Odalia… That was surprisingly brief, but I feel that’s gonna come back to play next episode! And Kikimora and ‘Roka’, which is what I’ll call it now lol. So desperate for power she’s lording over literal children and able to hide herself as one, that’s hilarious. And the Mat Tholomule twist… But also ambiguity. And also Matt is canonically into robots.

         AND THE TWINS REUNITING!!! Edric in a full-body cast was hilarious. Also I saw Amelia and Cat and that was very deliberate as part of Boscha’s arc, I’m so happy!!!

         This was… what an AMAZING episode, it felt LONG but right! I love the focus on resolving and bringing back characters! Love Kikimora was remembered and the end credits of Boscha being lonely… She’s so messed up I love her!!! What happened to Kikimora’s dragon Princess, anyhow? At this point I’m genuinely starting to think Terra killed her as punishment for attempted defection. And RIP Terra… lol.

         STILL NO EDA KING LUZ REUNION!!! But we’re getting there, we are!!! Soon…

        Damn. Only one episode left. The LAST episode. I’m… I’m gonna miss this guys. But it’s been one hell of a ride and I don’t regret a second of it! Thanks, and see you for the finale…! Peace out!

What’s everyone’s favorite singalong song?

Oooo, good question... Luz: See, the thing is, as you'd probably expect, I think Luz likes a little bit of everything, so it would depend on her mood. That said, I think they sing Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park or Rebel Rebel by David Bowie regularly. That, and she's totally doing that duet of Moving Right Along with Hunter. Amity: Easily Someone's Someone by k-pop group Monsta X. It reminds her too much of Luz. She occasionally belts out Numb by Linkin Park and Pretend We're Dead by L7. Naturally, Luz becomes her backup vocals and they sing to each other all the time, much to the annoyance of everyone. Willow: Girl has Tenacious D on lock (especially Master Exploder, and yes she does understand the lyrics.) But more than that, if Hunter's upset, she's singing a romantic song to him like Swing Life Away by Rise Against to help him feel better. And she will sing Bury the Light when she's playing video games. Hunter: This boy lives and breathes musicals, emo music, and Weird Al. I'd think that, if they're all parked for the night, he might also dance while singing, so expect him to sing 500 Miles or any Michael Jackson song. Gus: Like Hunter, total Weird Al fanboy. Also deep into singing Voltaire, but if they're parked, he's using illusion magic to amplify the song through visuals. You should see his version of the Beast of Pirate Bay. Matt: Matt doesn't really sing all that much... Except for one song, and that's Hardware Store by Weird Al, and he scares everyone by doing a perfect version of the breakdown of that song. Vee: Given how silly she can be, Bad Reputation by Joan Jett and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cindi Lauper are in her wheelhouse. She also doesn't mind going goth/punk with her Mashy. Masha: They love to sing Queen for some reason (especially Under Pressure, for many reasons,) Also, they love singing a good Punk Rock song, especially from The Clash or The Ramones.

Stepping Stones: Chapter 14

And at last we reach the final chapter! I've had so much fun with this series, and I hope everyone who's read it has too. Every single comment I've gotten on it has, without exaggeration, made my day, so thank you thank you to everyone who left one-- and, of course, anyone who read any of the chapters at all. I hope you enjoy the last one!

“All right, kids,” Eda says, looking at them with a glimmer of malicious glee in her eyes. “Who’s going first?”

“Luz is,” Hunter says immediately. 

Luz shoots him a look.

“This was your idea,” he points out.

And, okay, he’s not wrong. While Hunter was carving his new palisman, Luz had the idea to draw his old one, sketching out a stylized version of Flapjack next to the tattoo she wants to get for her dad. As she looked at it, she had the thought that maybe it could do for Hunter what she hopes the flowers will do for her, allow him to feel like he’s carrying part of Flapjack with him even as he grows. Hunter agreed as soon as she showed him— and then Willow offered to get one too, and the whole thing spiraled, and now everyone is standing in front of Eda ready for her to draw on their skin with magic. Well, everyone except Vee, who’s just here for moral support, since she can just shift the tattoo onto her skin. 

Luz takes a deep, preparatory breath, and thinks of Flapjack. He helped Hunter most of all— but none of them would be where they are without him. Luz might not have entered the emperor’s mind, might not have found out about the draining spell until it was too late. Hunter wouldn’t have caught Willow’s attention with his flying skills, wouldn’t have been there to help Gus fight off the illusionist Coven Head at Hexside. They might have lost the war against Belos— and Gus and Amity wouldn’t have their friend, Willow wouldn’t have her boyfriend, and Vee and Luz wouldn’t have their brother. Flapjack brought them all together; it’s only fair that they honor him together.

So Luz steps forward and nods at Eda. “Okay.”

“I keep telling you, it won’t hurt,” she says, grabbing what looks like a training wand from a shelf beside the couch.

“In my experience, we have slightly different definitions of what hurts,” Luz notes. 

Eda snorts. “Fair enough. But seriously, this won’t feel like anything.”

“Do you want me to hold your hand?” Amity asks, seeing that Luz’s expression hasn’t changed.

“Yes please.”

Amity slips her hand into hers and squeezes. 

Hunter hands Eda the tattoo design, and she waves the wand over it, then turns to Luz. “Where do you want it?”

Luz points out a spot on the side of her left arm, just above her elbow. Eda waves the wand over it, and she tenses, squeezing Amity’s hand, and feels— nothing. She glances over, expecting the wand not to have worked, but no: an image of a red bird stares back at her.

“You were right!” she exclaims, looking up at Eda. “I didn’t feel anything!”

Eda ruffles her hair. “Were you doubting your wise and infinitely talented mentor?”

“Who always taught me to question authority? Yes.”

“That’s my girl.”

“I can go next,” Amity offers, and Luz gets up, the two of them switching places on the couch.

The door opens as Luz sits back down, letting Raine and Darius into the room.

“We heard you were back,” Raine says, “and— are you getting tattoos?”

Luz proudly shows them her arm. “They’re for Flapjack,” she says, and Raine gives her and Hunter a sad smile

Darius reaches out to ruffle Hunter’s hair, only to jerk back as a little blue bird leaps from his shoulder and onto Darius’s arm. He flinches, then stiffens, visibly using all his strength not to pull away as the bird hops along his arm and comes to perch on his head. Raine’s grin widens.

“That’s your palisman, aren’t they?”

Hunter nods, a smile of his own tugging at his lips. “Her name is Waffles,” he says, and Raine actually hops up and down on the spot in delight.

Fiddlesticks comes out of staff form and Waffles flies down to greet them, the two of them circling each other and chittering happily. It’s so cute that Luz does a hop of her own, clasping her hands together to keep herself from gathering them into her arms and cooing over them at a pitch that would break every window in the house. When she manages to tear her eyes from them, her gaze falls on Hunter, who watches the two palismen with tears in his eyes. Luz reaches out to wrap an arm around him, and Amity does the same on his other side, a red bird now visible on her forearm.

It doesn’t take Eda long to do the others, each of whom come to join the little group hug when they’re finished, until finally it’s Hunter's turn. Gus rests his hands on his shoulders when he sits down, and Willow perches on the couch beside him.

“Where would you like it?” Eda asks him, an extra-gentle note in her voice.

“Could you… is there any way of putting it over my sigil?”

Eda claps once, her expression gleeful. “Now there’s good thinking. We might not know how to remove those blasted things yet, but there’s no reason why we can’t cover them up.”

Hunter lets out a breath and nods. He closes his eyes as Eda waves the wand over his sigil, and when he opens them, the emperor’s symbol is replaced by Flapjack. 

Hunter exhales again, only this time, it’s a long, deep sound that seems to echo in the room. When he breathes in again, he straightens, and Luz can see in the set of his shoulders that a weight has been lifted. Willow kisses his cheek, and Hunter smiles, wiping at his eyes.

“Thanks, Eda,” he says, and she ruffles his hair.

“Don’t mention it, kid.”

The door bursts open again, and Hooty comes rocketing through it, sending Luz, Amity, and Vee stumbling backwards to join Willow, Hunter, and Eda on the couch, clinging to each other and making various noises of alarm.

“Hello, Hooty,” Eda says. “Do I want to know where Lily and your backpack are?”

“On the other side of town!” Hooty replies gleefully, and Eda shudders.

“And to what do the people of Bonesborough owe the trauma you’re currently putting them through with your length?”

“The carnival is open for business! And it looks great! Plus I checked on our floats this morning, and they are undisturbed! I even polished mine.”

“Do we really have to have him on our float?” Amity whispers to Luz through gritted teeth.

“Well, he is a savior of the Isles. In his own way.”

It was Raine’s idea to take the idea of the Coven Day Parade and turn it into a way of celebrating the island’s liberation. All of the new institutions put into place over the last year will have floats, including the Council and Eda’s university. And, Raine insisted, they would need to celebrate the people who were responsible for the island’s liberation in the first place, so Luz, her friends, King, Lilith, and Hooty are getting a float of their own. 

Hooty will be driving.

Luz has had more than one nightmare about it.

“Let’s just enjoy the carnival while we can,” Willow says with a pained smile. “Camila’s meeting us there, right?”

Vee nods. “She said she’d be by the dunk tank with the Emperor Belos impersonator at noon.”

“It’s quarter to,” Raine says. “We’d better get moving.”

“If you all hop on my back, I could let you ride through the town on me while I retract into the backpack—“ Hooty starts, but the simultaneous refusals that follow are emphatic enough that they don’t allow him another word.

By the time the sun dips below the horizon, Luz’s throat is raw from screaming and laughing and her stomach is bursting with what’s probably half her body weight in fried food. She didn’t think anything could top the carnival that comes to the island every so often, but this knocked it out of the park. King got the Collector to weigh in on the planning, and the result was a mix of every kind of game Luz could imagine with a few death-defying rides thrown in. Nothing like celebrating the time she actually died with a roller coaster wild enogh to make her stomach feel like it was about to repeat the experience.

And she knows the others enjoyed it as much as she did. King walks with a bounce in his step— he never talks about it, but she knows he misses the Collector, and thinks that playing some of their games has been good for him. Camila looks around with bright eyes, the festival so far beyond the realm of anything she's used to. Gus and Vee happily compare the photos they took at various booths, while Willow helps Hunter carry some of the small army of stuffed animals she won him. Eda, at some point, turned into harpy form, and flies above them with Raine in her arms despite their laughing protests. 

Lilith and Hooty are waiting by the floats, having had what appears to be a picnic at the base of them. Luz takes them in for the first time in all their finished glory, grinning. The Council’s float is shaped like the Titan, of course, with one councilor on each of the limbs and Darius, who will be giving the speech, in the middle. Behind it is the float for the University of Wild Magic, bearing the logo on a proud banner, with a place for each of the faculty to stand. And then there’s the float for the rest of the saviors of the Isles, which is modeled after Hooty’s face, despite the fact that he was a puppet the entire time. If he was going to build the float, he argued, he was going to make sure it “reflected his true glory”.

“Do you think it has the teeth?” King whispers to Luz.

“Shhhhhh.”

Raine gives Eda a kiss, and she sets them down. “I’ll see you after this mortifying ordeal,” they mutter.

“You’ll be fine, Rainestorm. You haven’t tripped in front of a crowd since you were elected.”

“There’s a first time for everything.”

“You’ll be great, Raine,” Luz says, pulling them into a hug.

“You’re the parent of a Titan!” King adds, climbing up to their shoulder. “Glory runs in your veins!”

“That’s not how it works—" Lilith starts, but Eda elbows her into silence.

She boards the University float as Raine joins Darius and the other councilors. Lilith walks over to Luz’s group.

“Are you sure you don’t want to ride with us?” she asks Vee. “From what I’ve been told, the others might not have been able to go after Belos without your help. Just because you weren’t part of the final battle, it doesn’t mean you weren’t important.”

Vee shakes her head. “No, thank you. I still don’t really like being stared at. Besides, I’ll enjoy sitting with Masha. You know how fascinated they are by magic; they’ll love this.”

“Well, if you’re sure.”

“I am. But I should probably get a move on if I want to meet up with them before the parade starts.”

She hugs Camila and waves goodbye to the others before setting off into the streets. 

Luz, Camila, Lilith, Hooty, Amity, Hunter, Willow, and Gus climb onto their float and Lilith directs them to their positions. About five minutes into her lecture on how to wave and smile properly— leftover posturing from her Coven Head days— the Council’s float mercifully begins to move.

Luz has been in and out of Bonesborough for almost a year and a half, and she’s never seen it as crowded as it is today. Every inch of the street is packed with witches and demons shoulder-to-shoulder against the barricades, and plenty have stolen Eda’s idea of perching on the roofs as well. They pass Perry, Harvey, and Gilbert on a balcony, all blowing kisses, and Dell and Gwen below, beaming with pride. Steve, who neglected to join the others on the float in order to keep an eye on Matt, jumps up and down and waves as they pass, while Matt stands with his arms crossed and tries to hide his smile. 

And— there’s Vee on the next rooftop over, perched with her siblings and Masha, the latter of who is leaning forward so far Luz is legitimately worried they might fall. Luz lifts a hand to wave— only to find herself flailing it wildly for balance as the float swerves sharply. 

“What—“ she gasps, whirling around and finding herself face-to-face with Terra Snapdragon.

“Sorry, sapling,” she hisses, and flicks Luz over the edge of the float with a vine. 

Luz fumbles for a levitation glyph in her pocket before she remembers, a scream ripping from her throat even as she curses her own stupidity, and crashes face first into… a puddle of goo?

The abomination lifts Luz back up, setting her into Amity’s arms. “Thanks,” she pants, grabbing her staff and whirling around to assess the situation.

The parade has turned into an out-and-out battle with what looks like fifty coven scouts. “Where did they all come from?!” Luz shouts.

A scout swings their fist at her, and she ducks— only for them to disappear before her eyes. She glances around to find Gus swirling his fingers, his face intense with concentration. Another scout disappears, then another, and then one reappears. Luz scans the crowd and her gaze lands on Adrian Graye, ducked behind a float, concentrating just as hard as Gus is. 

“The scouts aren’t real!” she yells. “They’re illusions!”

“Hunter, did you hear that?” Willow asks, and Luz looks over to find her crouched beside Hunter, who had his hands over his ears. He just shakes his head.

“They’re coming to take me away, Belos wants me back…”

“No, they’re not, you’re not part of his coven anymore!” Willow takes his arm in her hands, gently pressing his tattoo. Hunter takes a gasping breath, his expression clearing, and then his eyes fix onto something over Willow’s shoulder and he lets out a warning cry.

Before Willow can turn around, Luz is there, stopping the Construction Coven Head’s hammer with her staff. He lifts it, preparing to strike again, and she stabs at his eye with the back end of her staff, making him reel backwards. Luz draws a spell circle in the air, preparing to blast him with a jet of fire, only to feel something cold wrap around her stomach, squeezing the breath from her lungs as it yanks her backwards.

“No,” she wheezes, “let go—“

The pressure around her middle is relieved so quickly she wonders if the Coven Head actually listened. But no— she looks up to see Eda grabbing the Oracle Coven Head from above and unceremoniously dropping him off the float.

“Stay away from my kid!” she yells.

Another harpy joins her in the sky: Lilith, with Hooty still attached to her and biting as many Coven Heads as he can reach. They give Luz enough breathing room to scan the area again. The Coven Heads shouldn’t be winning, and yet Willow and Hunter are nearly doubled over from the exertion of fighting off the Construction Head, and Gus and Amity lie in a heap at the base of the float, and Raine is firing note after note at Adrian without any of it seeming to touch him, and Camila is punching vine after vine with Terra just creating more and more to take their place. 

Why isn’t this working? Luz thinks, and then, why isn’t anyone doing anything? Where is the crowd that was packed so tightly? Why aren’t they helping? Have they run?

Some of them have, she sees. But enough of them remain, only— they’re frozen. And that, she realizes, is where the Coven Heads’ power is coming from. It’s not that they are powerful; the terror of what they represent is. 

Luz fears it too. And without her glyphs, she can’t bring herself to believe she’s strong enough to defeat it. 

At least: not alone.

She raises her staff and fires a jet of light up into the sky, so brilliant and piercing that for a single second the fighting stops.

“This isn’t their world anymore!” she yells. “This whole night, this whole celebration, the whole reason we’re here is to acknowledge that we are more powerful than them! I know you’re afraid, I know your minds want you to believe this attack means we’re going back to the old way of doing things, but we’re not! This isn’t the start of a war, this is their last stand!”

The Oracle Coven grabs Luz again, but this time, she doesn’t fight it. She’s said her piece. She’s done what she can. She closes her eyes, praying that someone heard-- no, listened.

And oh, thank you, thank you, the hand around her stomach releases. Luz looks up to find a blue mist trailing over her head, and she follows it from the Coven Head to Vee, who’s draining his magic with a defiant light dancing in her eyes. 

A strangled gasp draws Luz’s attention to the Construction Coven Head, who’s frozen above Willow, his magic trailing away from him in a steady stream towards Wynne. Terra falls to Gemini next, then Adrian to Rhee, and then the Potions Coven Head to Ivy.

Eda lets out a piercing cheer. “Those are my students!” she yells. 

And this— this first act of true defiance by the beings Belos used and discarded, the ones the covens mistreated and hid from the world— is enough to empower the people that Luz’s words couldn’t. With a rallying cry, the crowd storms the floats, and in no time at all, the Coven Heads are in chains and being escorted by Eda and Lilith into a cart that will take them to the Conformatorium to await trial. 

Darius folds his arms, shaking his head. “Fools,” he says. “We couldn’t prosecute them without evidence, and now they’ve staged an attack with the whole island as witness.”

“Except for Hettie,” Raine points out. “She was smart enough to stay out of it, and you know she’ll do everything in her power to talk them out of trouble.”

Eda snorts. “She’ll have a pretty tough time of that.”

Darius heaves a long-suffering sigh. “Either way, I should probably get up there and thank the crowd.” He takes a step towards the Council’s newly-righted float, only to stop as Raine puts a hand on his arm.

“I’ll do it.”

And they start up the stairs without a backward glance, summoning a microphone as they go. 

“People of the Isles,” they call. “Could, uh, could I please have your attention?”

Their voice is soft, but it carries power, and a wave of silence falls over the crowd. Raine takes a breath, and Luz can hear how it trembles. They glance back at her, and she beams, giving them two thumbs up. Eda blows them a kiss, and Darius gives them an encouraging nod. Raine turns back to face the crowd with a small smile on their lips.

“Thank you for your help in averting this threat,” they say, their voice still shaking but their words clear. “I know the shadow of the covens still looms over our island. We are still afraid of exploring magic beyond the boxes we were taught to keep it in. We are still weak and drained from the strain of fighting to break free of the confines of what we were taught. But Luz Noceda is right. We planned today’s celebration to acknowledge a year in which we re-shaped our government, our system of learning, our way of being into one that is tolerant, curious, and safe. With every day that passes, we face our fears of the old regime, and we take a step beyond them. Seeing what all of you just did tells me that those steps have taken us very far indeed. This new world would not be possible without the bravery of each and every one of you. I want to thank you for that. I want to thank the last basilisks on the Isles, who showed that bravery to a degree I can't imagine, and to the witches and demons who fought for their— and all of our— freedom in the first place. And—" Raine turns to Luz again and smiles at them, the love in their eyes eroding any leftover fear— “I want to thank the very special human who has, at one point or another, inspired all of us to be more than we thought we could. I— and the Council, and the Isles— thank you, and celebrate you.”

And then, as though it was planned, the fireworks that were meant to be launched after Darius’s speech at the end of the parade burst into the sky, and the crowd erupts into cheers so loud they drown out the crackling. 

Luz feels someone’s hand in hers and turns to see Amity stepping up next to her. She squeezes her hands and looks back at the fireworks, and as she does, a memory comes to her: sitting with Amity on a rooftop during the Coven Day Parade, both of their hands ice cold, trying not to shiver as they watched the crowd cheer for Belos and the sick game he had in motion. It’s hard to believe that was just over a year ago. It feels impossible to be in such a similar position, but with the context so completely different. Not so long ago, it would have been impossible to imagine that change took place because of her.

But it did. She set the draining spell into motion, yes— but she set all of this into motion, too. Eda and Lilith standing with their wings spread, Eda’s hand in Raine’s. Vee with her siblings and her mom and her partner, all of them leaning over each other to point out their favorite fireworks. Hunter with his arms around Willow and Gus, Darius and Eber beaming at him from behind. Amity, her smile unrestrained, her hand in Luz’s. All possible because she loves these people and they love her, and they take what they’ve given each other and paid it forwards, taking steps and pulling each other along. And if this is what they’ve accomplished in a year, who can say what they will in two, three, five?

Luz presses a kiss against Amity’s cheek and leans her head against hers, turning her gaze up to the fireworks and letting the bursts of light make imprints on her vision, and she feels herself glow just as brightly with the possibilities.

One sunny Saturday afternoon, Willow and Hunter found themselves walking through a picturesque meadow, surrounded by vibrant wildflowers. The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of nature, creating an enchanting atmosphere. As they strolled, their steps gradually slowed, appreciating the beauty around them.

Willow could feel her heart racing, becoming more and more aware of Hunter's presence beside her. She couldn't shake off the feeling that this day held something different—a chance for their friendship to evolve into something more.

Willow looked at Hunter, and he blushed. She but her lip and looked down.

“Hunter… I need to tell you something.” Willow admitted, blush tickling her face. Hunter attempted to lock eyes with Willow.

“What is it?” He asked. She bit her lip again.

“Well- I think I like you.” She explained looking up at him.

“Well of course you like me!” He exclaimed. “We are best friends, right?”

Willows eyes widened as she realised the poor blondie didn’t realise what she meant.

“Hunter, no- I mean I like you the way Luz likes Amity.”

Hunter gulped.

“Oh?” Is all he could produce as his eyes dared to dart down and steal a quick glance at her lips before comping back up to meet her eyes.

Willow smiled cheekily.

“I think I like you too I’m that case.” Hunter mumbled. Willow giggled before taking Hunters hands in hers.

They both close their eyes and began to lean in.

Just as they were about to share their first kiss, Luz and Gus burst into the meadow, giggling and playfully chasing each other. Startled, Willow and Hunter quickly stepped apart, their cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

Luz, the energetic and mischievous girl, couldn't resist teasing her friends. "Oh, Willow and Hunter, what were you doing there? About to share your deepest secrets under that tree? Or perhaps preparing for a magical moment? Should we give you some privacy?" she said with a playful wink.

Gus, always quick to join in on the fun, chimed in. "Yes, yes, let's give them some space, Luz. Who knows, they might be planning to elope to a far-off land together."

Willow and Hunter couldn't help but laugh, their moment momentarily forgotten amidst the lighthearted banter. Amity, the quiet and observant friend, finally caught up, her curiosity piqued.

"What's going on, you two? What are Luz and Gus teasing you about?" she asked, a trace of confusion in her voice.

Willow and Hunter exchanged a knowing glance, considering whether now was the right time to share their secret. Taking a deep breath, Willow stepped forward, her heart pounding in her chest. "Actually, Amity, we were just about to have our first kiss."

Amity's eyes widened in surprise, a mixture of excitement and understanding surfacing on her face. "Oh! I'm sorry for interrupting then. I guess I'll just... let you have your moment."

With that, Luz, Gus, and Amity went behind the trees where Willow and Hunter thought they’d gone. Willow and Hunter resumed their initial position under the shade of the tree. This time, there was no interruption, just the gentle hush of nature and the support of their friends.

As they leaned in, their lips met, and a gentle energy filled the air. It was a shared moment of vulnerability and deep affection, witnessed by the ones who had been there for them throughout their entire friendship.

When they finally broke apart, Luz and Gus cheered, clapping their hands in delight. Hunter and Willow whipped their heads around to see the three had been watching. They felt stupid for thinking Luz would have actually left. Amity smiled, her eyes filled with a mix of happiness and disgust, not sure how to feel about Hunter kissing Willow.

The group stood there for a while longer, basking in the beauty of the meadow and the strength of their friendship. The interruption, though unexpected, made their first kiss even more memorable. But a time skip to Kings tide, you managed to get to Willow bc gfs stick together and you went through the portal with her, and during your stay in the human realm, you still smothered her with cuddles, words, gifts and kisses but it felt like she wasn't as happy, like she was faking it, even with you, Luz, Amity, Gus or even hunter is was just different!!

Even when it was shown the Belos was in the human realm, Hunter being a grimwalker, Flap-Jack dying to protect Hunter, and facing the puppets when you got back to the human realm, and it finally all broke Willow when Boscha used sleeping nettles on all of you guys, when you and Hunter woke up, you saw vines on everything!! Willows magic was getting out of control... And when you heard her throw insults at herself, you gf instincts kicked in-

You raced to her and hugged her, as well as Hunter, you both comforted her and had her let it all out (Y/N and Hunter comfort duo-)

She missed her dad's, you couldn't blame her, they were very nice and you missed your parents too, everyone did!!

But you were gonna get them back!! So you guys regained yourselves and you kicking ass girlfriend that you loved was back! You were cheering her on while beating Kikimoras ass

I feel like a lot of people didn't really give The Owl House its due credit until season two brought in a lot of really plot-heavy, story driven elements and I really think that's a shame.

Not that serialized storytelling with a set plot is a bad thing. it's absolutely not. but the plot of The Owl House was really basic fantasy fare. For as much as the show acted like it was deconstructing those fantasy tropes, it really kinda...wasn't. Girl gets stuck in magic fantasy world and has to defeat the big bad emperor (who is a pretty basic villain tbh y'all have just been overexposed to redeemable villains lately) with the help of her quirky group of friends and hey wouldn't you know it, the primary morality play of the story has something to do with love, what a. what a shock. I have never seen a fantasy story do any of this before.

I'm just saying, the story structure itself really isn't that deep. it's a kids fantasy show and that's okay. that is not why The Owl House was good, and that is not why it stood out.

what made The Owl House unique were two main things, I think. One was the setting- the story may not have been a massive deconstruction of fantasy tropes, but the Boiling Isles as a setting absolutely was. Most magical fantasy worlds, especially those made for children, tend to be ethereal, colorful places with an air of whimsy and fun. Think places like Wonderland, Neverland, parts of the Harry Potter universe (I bring that up because TOH made jabs at it, fuck jkr). Even more seriously toned stories tend to have some of these elements- Lord of the Rings is a good example of a fantasy that can get quite dark but still has some classic fantasy world whimsy to it- the Shire is still a beloved setting for a reason.

The Owl House, however, played around with this idea a lot by making the Boiling Isles much more of a horror setting. And that was what was fun about it- they took a classic fantasy plot and laid it on top of this horrifying, hellish world. The characters are literally living on the corpse of one of the main characters' undead father the entire time. Everything is dangerous- the magic school has a detention that tries to eat you, Luz is constantly getting scammed and tricked, the wise old mentor is a cranky middle aged woman who turns into a demon owl, hell, even half the food is completely inedible. This world is inherently dangerous to Luz in some ways, above and beyond Belos' influence.

The other thing that sets this show apart are the characters and their relationships to each others. Luz first thinks of Eda as a potential "wise old mentor" in the veins of Gandalf- she ends up finding a complicated woman with her own difficult past who becomes more of a mother to her than a teacher. The cute animal sidekick starts off as a megalomaniac and turns out to actually be the son of a god who just wants to play catch. The three leads are weird, outcasts of their worlds who find community and companionship in each other. Most of the side characters fall into this basic theme too- Lilith is a history nerd hiding behind her coven head persona, Raine is a secret rebel and a bard with stage fright, Amity doesn't fit in with her family's expectations, Willow was bullied for being "half-a-witch", Gus is obsessed with humans and younger than his peers, Hunter was an abused kid hiding a love for wild magic, even Camila was a secret nerd. That was always the heart of the show, that was what made it good and different from other fantasy stories.

And none of that would have been nearly as apparent without the groundwork season one laid. Yes, season one was more episodic. Yes the tone was much lighter compared to later seasons. Yes some of the adventures were a bit goofy. But they were the foundation the show was built one. They were the reason you cared about saving this world once the plot started kicking in. The show didn't "get good" in season two, it was already good. Season two is full of plot contrivances and conveniences that get the characters from point A to point B, and season three is even worse (though Disney shoulders a lot of blame for that).

But take an episode like Hollow Mind, for example. The lead up to how Luz and Hunter end up in Belos' mind is not well written. It's rushed, it comes out of nowhere, and frankly it's an extremely convenient plot device to get us to the big Belos-is-Phillip reveal. There is nothing clever in the actual plot of that episode.

And nobody cares. I don't care, because that episode is still really good. Why is it good? Because of the characters. Because we care about Luz. We care about Luz's impact on this setting, because we love Luz, we love the friends she's made, we love the way she cares about them. And we love the Boiling Isles- we love this weird, creepy demon realm, and so we care when Belos reveals that he's a witch hunter out to destroy it. We've come to care about Hunter too, after seeing him bond with Willow and Gus at Hexside, so we care about him finding out the truth about Belos. So it didn't matter that the plot points were contrived and convenient- the character writing was so strong that it overrode all that.

But again, none of that would have hit as hard without the foundation that season one laid. This show was special because of season one, not despite it. Season one is not the weak link, it is an essential part of the show's core DNA, because it is there that we fully explore this setting and really get to know and love our characters and their bonds with each other. Season one is the heart of this show, and without it, the whole thing would have fallen flat.

Now since the Owl House has ended I can do the Arknights x The Owl House crossover I have always wanted to do.

Okay everyone here are three Ideas and I was Wondering which one do y'all like the most:

1.Bad Girl Coven(Lilith, Eda, King, Luz, Gus, Willow and Amity) are Transported to Terra, Arknights world, as they Travel around Columbia or Victoria or Iberia or Bolivar to find a way home and find out what got them into this World.

2.Arknights Characters and OCs get Isekai-ed into the Boiling Isles, and helps around the Rebuilding of the Isles, where they meet Luz and everyone else, behind the fluffy and Wholesome nature of Arknights characters hanging around the Boiling Isles and try learning Magic to add to their Arts, there is a Sinister Plot happening behind the Scenes.

3. 'Terra is the Future of the Human and Demon Realm'

This is an AU where Belos basically kill EVERYONE and take over the Human Realm too in which they also retaliate and many died by Belos's Hands, thus led Demons and Humans commencing an All-out War against Belos, which led him in his last bit of Attempt to 'Cleanse' the world, created Originum and Oripathy before succumbing to Death.

His remaining sludge flowed into the ocean which by the Time, Terra is born, it's called the Seas of Iberia, which would explain the horrifying occurence of the Seaborns as they are descendants of mutated Sea life caused by Belos's Sludge.

Terra is born from the Amalgamation of the Human and Demon Realm after the collapse of the Realm in between caused by Belos, the Collector is killed by Belos to be an "Eternal" Host to the concept of the 'Oripathy' the disease that goes around in Terra.

Centuries passed in Terra, so in this idea, this will follow a person known as 'Simon' my OC for this idea, he is an Oripathy Infected operator in Rhodes Island, a pharmaceutical company dedicated to the Infected and for the Infected, and it's goal to cure Oripathy from the World.Simon starts to see glitches in the World around him caused by the Tortured Soul of the Collector to save the World from Oripathy

Simon actually looks like a Doppelganger of a certain Witch Hunter which is caused by his Oripathy, he is partnered by a Girl called 'Nox' who looks alot like a certain Good Witch.If y'all are terrified about whether the Events of the R6 and Luo Xiaohei collabs happened in this World, Yes it happened but the Characters all come from different Worlds, as usual.

HEAVILY inspired by MorningMark and that one scene from Casper meets Wendy (1998).

TLDR: Luz friends love her and will defend her from any threat, even petty human teenagers. Playing real fast and loose with magic and Gravesfield okay, I don't know how magic transfer over now that The Titan is gone and King is still too young but we don't have to get in to all that okay. Also this isn't proofread, this is just a silly little idea I had.

So Luz is back in human realm to finish school along with Vee. Going about her daily goings about. On days like these she likes to walk around and just think/talk with String Bean. They can’t be in the Boiling Iles every weekend so taking a walk around Earth’s nature will have to do. She is human after all. Well no one said Luz’s return was a welcomed one (and after her whole speech about Phillip in class I doubt high schoolers spared her), but who is she care about their opinions? She’s the daughter of the greatest witch who ever lived, sister to a literal god and is friends with the most powerful witches the Demon Realm has ever known! Of course no one on Earth knows or would believe her (spare Jacob), but it’s the thought that counts!

All in all her days passed by fine, save for a few particular classmates. Classmates that had known Luz since she moved to Gravesfield and seen her jump from wierdo, to normie, to reserved and now somehow even weirder? The teasing never stopped or at least you get used to it, is what she told herself. More accurately what she told to String Bean on this particular walk.

“I can’t wait for break to come! Bump finally said yes to opening a Flyer Derby Track!” She cheered. String Bean hissed happily. She turned her head towards the tree line in confusion, like a puppy. Hearing something, she quickly turned into a staff. Luz was quick to grab her worried something might of spooked her.

“This is hilarious, I know you don’t have any friends but talking to a stick is a new low.” A familiar snide voice called from the tree line coming from the bushes and onto the path.

“Ugh Anna.” Luz rolled her eyes as the three stepped out, Anna and the other two girls Luz never really caught the name of.

“If I annoyed so bad why are you always following me? And I do have friends FYI!”

“Yeah, yeah I know. Your ‘super cool and awesome friends from out of town’!” She mocked “Weird that no one’s ever seen them before-“

“People have seen them, they were here for Halloween! They were in my Summer Break Presentation!”

“Oh yeah they were,” one of the follower girls said. Anna sent a stern eye her way before striding over to Luz.

“Whatever. Doesn’t change that you don’t have any friends at school and it makes sense! All you do is creep people out.”

“You think I want to friends like you?” Luz scoffed

“Excuse me-“

“You’re so rude to everyone around you, I doubt even those two like you.”

“What do you know?! Everyone thinks you’re weird!”

“Well if being ‘normal’, whatever that means, makes me like you? I’ll pass.“

Anna huffed in anger lunging towards Luz and grabbing onto the staff. They struggled, pulling towards each other. “Stop it! You’ll hurt her!”

“Her?!” Anna pushed off her back foot taking Luz down and grabbing hold of String Bean. She raised it above her head. “It’s just a stupid stick-“

Before she could slam String Bean down, a sheet of ice covered the path took Anna and her two followers down. String Bean was tossed in the air and caught by a figure riding a long vine.

“Luz!” Willow called out, the vine spiraling down to meet her on the path. Hunter and Gus were close behind. String Bean transformed back in Willow’s hand and floated towards Luz, nuzzling into her cheek.

“Oh girl, I thought I lost you.” She cradled String Bean close.

“Is she okay?” Hunter called out finally catching up with Willow, Gus behind him.

“Yeah, just a little shaken up.” Luz replied.

“What about you Luz?” Gus asked

“I’m fine,” she smiled “What are you guys doing here?”

“Well we came to see if you wanted to hang out but it seems we caught you at a bad time.” Willow glared at the girls. They all scrambled to their feet, ready to run but were blocked by a wall suddenly appearing behind them.

“That’s bold, picking a fight and then running away?” Hunter stated

“Three on one? Talk about unfair.” Gus sneered

“I think three on three is fair enough.” Willow said, magic circles already formed.

“Guys!” Luz called. Luz looked at Anna, full of fear and for a moment saw something familiar. Even if it was fair, she sighed, “It’s not worth it, some people just never change.”

All three complied, sending their own threatening look towards the girls.

“What if they say anything?” Gus asked

“I doubt it, they would look like weirdos.” Luz smiled smugly. String Bean hissed as if to accent the point.

“See you guys on Monday.” Luz said waved off taking to the sky with her friends. Anna and her friends were awestruck at the sight but more so that no one would ever believe them.

Bonus:

“Well I don’t want to go near her- her creepy friends could come attack us again!” One of the girls yelled over the video call.

“We were not attacked, okay. Just Luz and her weirdo friends.” Anna huffed

“Get over it Anna, just let her be.” The other called

“When did this become my fault?!”

“When you almost got us killed today!

“For the last time, we were not attacked-“

A soft tapping at the window.

“Anna?”

“Hold on,” she said moving towards the window. She leaned it, examining it closely. Splattered her window suddenly was a mess of purple goo. It pulled itself off the glass and formed into a body, a face started to form from the goo. A girl with purple hair and bright yellow eyes, like a cat. She tapped on the window with a smile leaving a purple smear. Anna hesitated before the girl opened the window herself.

“Hi.” She smiled

“H-Hi.” Anna stammered

“I’m gonna keep this short cause it’s late. I’m not as nice as Luz or our friends so take this as your only warning. Never hurt my girlfriend. Got it?”

“Y-Yeah.”

“Good.” She smiled. Her form distorted as her skin turned back into a dark purple. The slime slide off the windowsill and down the side of house all the way to the forest behind.

Anna was stunned staring out the window, her friends calling her name in the background.

Meanwhile at Luz’s house, the Hexside Crew set up for a movie night. “Amity! The popcorn’s ready.” Luz called

“Coming! Ghost thought she heard something.” Amity called back. She knelt down to let the incoming abomination slip back into her vase. Amity smiled to herself as she came into the kitchen. She grabbed a bowl and kissed Luz on the cheek.

“You’re smiley, did Ghost catch something?”

“No, just thinking about this spell Em taught me. I can show it to you later.”

My absolute favourite headcanon ever is that next year it's gonna be Grom King Gus. But Grom Queen Willow is also Such A Concept to think about.

Like fucking imagine. Judging from how enthusiastic she was last year, Willow loves grom. And last year her confidence was only beginning to improve, so imagine how pumped she's gonna be this time around. She's become her best self! She's super popular, she's one of the school's star athletes, she's got a group of best friends, she's even got a boyfriend. Last year's grom was already so fun so this year can only be a million times better!!

I like to think that while she is dating Hunter, it's very recent development so they're both still getting adjusted to the whole thing. There's a good bit of shyness but lots of sincerity too. With this being the case, Willow still felt the need to formally ask him. (With at least a little legitimate anxiety that he'd say no. Girl?? That's your boyfriend??) Anyway after one adorable little flower themed gromposal later, Hunter said yes and everything was going fantastic!!

Her dress from last year has gotten kinda tight so her dads bought her a brand new one and she adores it!! She really liked her other dress but she certainly looks and feels much older now and this new one reflects that. Love the idea that Willow's always been pretty "meh" about her appearance but ever since she started dyeing/braiding her hair and wearing the gold glasses she's been like "Hold on. I'm pretty..." and when she tries on her new dress for the first time, she gets so excited!! She's pretty!!! She's going to grom with her boyfriend and she's gonna look so pretty!!!

So things are going great. Willow is genuinely so happy with everything and buzzing with anticipation that this night is gonna be fun and silly and magical. Until this year's grom royalty is announced. And it's her.

Her smile slips momentarily, as the hallway goes silent, only for it to pluck back up as she publicly expresses her gratitude for being chosen. Of course it's her. She knows she's strong, she knows she's powerful, she knows that she's got a good chance of coming out of this victorious. And now that she thinks about it, yeah, she wants to do this. She'd like to keep Grometheus at bay for tonight as much as anybody. She wants everybody else to have a fun grom. And if you want a job done right, you better do it yourself.

Her friends would stand a fighting chance but Willow doesn't want a single one of them getting involved. Luz and Amity already went through it once. Gus adores his MC gig far too much to give it up. And Hunter...Hunter shouldn't be put in harm's way again for as long as he lives. That leaves Willow.

So it's fine :) She'll handle this pesky monster for everyone else's sake :) Not the grom she was expecting but probably the grom she's supposed to have, given who she is :)

She might have been looking forward to a chill fun night but it's fine :)

If Willow is disappointed or nervous in any way, she doesn't let it show. But Gus picks up on it. As does Hunter. They both offer to take her place but Willow forbids it. ("You will let me handle this one on my own. Understood?") She makes them promise. So neither intervene when the time finally comes.

All of Willow's excitement for grom fizzles out in favour of restless anxiety. She's pretty sure she's got this but any witch in their right mind fears Grometheus at least a little and Willow is no exception.

Willow still dolls herself up for the evening. She's hoping that maybe, once she gets this out of the way, the rest of the night will still be her ideal grom. She throws on the new dress that she's in love with. Amity comes over to do her hair into an elaborate braided up-do, interwoven flowers and all. But when she looks in the mirror and sees a beautiful girl staring back at her, she can't even summon that bubbling giddiness. Damn this stupid monster for her constant stomach churning pit of dread.

But once she's in that arena, glowing spell bangles at her wrists and the Fear Bringer itself staring her down, what is there to alleviate her terror? Gus's projected voice, carrying over the crowd as he hypes her up to the sky. Luz, Amity, Viney, Skara, and several others chanting a cheer specially tailored for her. And orchestrating this chant with utterly off-the-walls enthusiasm? Her ridiculous boyfriend, dressed like a string bean. Willow will find the time to laugh about this later. When she's not fighting for her life and everyone else's.

She loves Hunter very much. She loves all of them very much. Which is why she is going to wrap this up as swiftly as she can.

The fight between the Grom Queen and the Fear Bringer rages on, and though Willow is not failing by any means, Grometheus shows no signs of weakening. She accumulates a myriad of cuts, scrapes and bruises and even if she's still standing upright, she doesn't know how much longer she can hold out.

That's when the monster, now in the form of a giant clawed beetle, lunges for her. And though she dodges, unscathed, she stares down in devastation at the jagged tear in the skirt of her beautiful dress.

Enough. She has had enough.

Willow goes fucking ballistic.

"YOU" She thunders, eyes an electric green glow. "ARE RUINING MY GROM NIGHT"

She doesn't want to be here. She wants to be laughing and taking dumb pictures with her friends. She wants to be spinning around in her (now ruined) dress. She wants to be dancing with her boyfriend.

She can't do any of those things as long as this fucking creature stands in her way.

Willow's fear is overwhelmed by a burst of rage and in one final riot of raw power, Grometheus succumbs to defeat, slithering into hiding for another year.

She can't even summon the performance energy to smile as the tiara lands on her head and her classmates rush to congratulate her. She knows it's silly, so she doesn't want to make a big deal about it, but she's quite upset about her dress.

Willow is ushered into the Healing Homeroom and Viney and Emira tend to her injuries. She doesn't speak much as they tell her what an awesome job she did, only offering a smile and nod and an occasional "Hm." She fiddles with one of the many undone locks of hair. Amity's beautiful braided handiwork had come almost completely undone. Flowers remain loosely tangled in the strands that brush her shoulders.

Once the healing spells are complete and Viney and Emira return to the dance floor, Willow opts to stay put for the moment. She barely has a minute alone before he's standing in the doorframe.

Despite how low she feels, she laughs at the sight of him.

Hunter frowns. "You said that you like me in green."

"I'm sorry. I do, yes. I kinda miss your suit from earlier though."

"If it's a suit the Grom Queen wants, it's a suit she'll get."

With a wave of his staff, Hunter's attire is as polished and beautiful as when he showed up at her doorstep this evening.

Willow does a joking little swoon and a round of applause. Blushing slightly, Hunter humors her with a bow before sitting down beside her.

He pulls the decorative handkerchief out of his breastpocket and Willow is puzzled before she feels his rough fingers gently tip up her chin to the light.

Hunter informs her that there is grime from the fight smeared all over her face. He diligently cleans it off.

"Your dress is pretty." He says, after a few seconds of comfortable silence.

This was the second time he had said this tonight. The first time she had said thank you. Now her stomach sinks.

"Was." Willow replies glumly, fingers threading through the torn fabric.

Hunter's eyes narrow to where she's currently fidgeting. He then reaches into yet another pocket and withdraws a little red box. And when he pops off the lid, its contents are needles and threads, expertly organized by colour and size.

"It won't be a perfect mend." Says Hunter, fiddling with his sewing kit. "But it's important to you so...I could give it a shot?"

For the next several minutes, Willow sits patiently as Hunter stitches her dress back together, entertaining her with anecdotes of suit shopping with Darius and brainstorming the "Willow is Awesome" chant with the rest of their friends.

Willow is not the primped up doll that she was a few hours ago. You could certainly tell she had been in battle. Her dress is still a little dirty but the care Hunter took to mend it makes her heart melt. Her elaborately plaited hairstyle is now a sloppy mess but Amity promised earlier that she'd stop by some other time to do it again whenever Willow wanted to look especially cute. (She was thinking on her next date with Hunter.) Plus, she has to admit that the Grom Queen tiara is beautiful.

Not just the tiara. She's still beautiful. Hunter tells her as much and when she looks back at him, she knows he's not just saying it. That boy is incapable of telling her a convincing lie.

This grom has not gone the way Willow hoped it would. But it's not all that bad either. At the very least, she's gonna make the most of the night.

"C'mon." Says Hunter, tentatively linking his fingers through hers. "We gotta get back to the gym before everybody wonders where you are. Pretty sure Luz wants a dance with the Grom Queen."

As the two cross the classroom, Hunter carries on. "Oh and Amity too."

Willow grins.

"Pretty sure Gus expressed an interest in a dance also..."

She nods. "Of course he did. I am in very high demand for dances."

Hunter hums.

"And uhh..." He mutters. "Me too maybe."

For the second time in this stressed induced nightmare of an evening, Hunter manages to make Willow burst into laughter.

"Do I need to remind you that you're my date? You get the honor of being the Grom Queen's first dance."

She means it as a silly little joke and speaks with an ironic air of regality.

But the comedy falls to pieces when Hunter looks back at her, and a bright beam of pure awe splits his pretty face. Pink stains his cheeks and excitement sparks in his irises.

aight i'm gonna just, do a fucking "my thougths" as a watch through the episode a second time because i can this is gonna be a mix of serious points, and also me gushing because i'm in love with this show and also drinking like, just a toooouch

- I feel like lowkey, the things Amity, Gus, Willow and Hunter say during Luz' nightmare, are so effective and hurtful because they could definitely be what they actually think. And on some twisted deep down super petty level, they probably are, brought to the surface by the Collector's magic.

- Luz absolutely only realized just how much a child the Collector actually was when she realized they didn't understand what Death is. The way she now only asks "do you not know what Death means to mortals?" but how she fully goes out of battle stance. She doesn't just lower Stringbean down in shock, she instantly loosens her stance and puts them by her side, she's no longer prepping for a fight, because she just realized how much her opponent is a kid

- Raine with Tousled hair is so,,,, they're so,,,, I wanna marry them so bad you have no idea

- so on first watch i thought it was like, pretty explicit that the Collector killed the Baby Titans, but on second watch it might, not be? we really don't know enough about the Collector and their family to know for sure, maybe they did take away some of the kids, maybe they didn't. Maybe it was a bit of both? Would've loved to see more, but also i think it's nice for it to be kinda open so fans can play with the idea of there being more titans out there.

- When Luz gets overtaken by the growth stuff from Belos, absolutely the Collector does realize something happened. Like yes they try to "fix her" but the question of "where'd she go?" tells that they know, right away, something's up. This isn't like when their toys break, something feels off, different, wrong. The way they cling onto that little light, the hint of genuine concern in their voice as they ask. It's not just a, just a fucking feeling of "hey wait, where'd they go?" like when your friends are hiding.

The collector can tell it's different, it's wrong, but hey! they're the Colelctor, they're all powerful! they can fix her, bring her back! but they can't And the collector realizes what they've been doing

- I love how, from the very first proper sentence the Titan speaks to Luz in Person (not the wake up one) you can tell what kid of person he is/was. Like you can tell, both from what he said and how he's dressed, how warm, kind and loving he was. Like just, I'm so sad, he didn't get to meet King in person, and when i watched it through the first time i was so sure Luz was gonna pull him back along with her to the living, but it didn't happen.

ALSO, the fucking little hooty sticking out of his eye had me going in so many ways, because like, does it mean that Hooty's species are just particularly connected to the titan? or are worms just fucking Hooty's in the Boiling Isles??? Maybe, it's even a hint of where Hooty came from, because well there IS an eye on the Boiling Isles too! like oh my god so much in so little

- "and you seems like a good witch" i saw someone mention how Luz called herself 'the good witch luz' later on, and i'll see myself in a bit no doubt as i'm watching, BUT This is definitely a moment that sticks out to her. The titan himself is calling her a good witch, after everything she's done, that he's watched her do, he thinks she's a good witch

- ALSO, a thought i had, is how much i love that they show the Titan is just, just this guy He's got a dad bod with a billy, his beard's unkept, he's wearing a Bad Girl coven t-shirt and jogging pants with a glyph pattern, AND I BET HE WOULD BE WEARING LOAFERS. Like the Titans have been propped up so much through the series, because well the Titan is a big deal.

But also, the Titans are a people who loved their kids, wanted them safe, and lounged around in old shirts and loose pants

- THE COLLECTOR FUCKING, "I don't want anyone else to go away, I don't want anyone else to go missing" and him desperately trying to stop King and Eda and brushing off the, the growth from Belos, like oh my god he really is just a child learning about loss for the first time proper, like ever

also a headcanon i am having like right now, is that the Archivists definitely did take some of titan children away, either on purpose to paint the Collector in a bad light, or simply because they wanted, either option ending in the Collector being painted in a bad light and like they just didn't care about who they hurt. Because i bet he wasn't sat down and talked to about it, it actually does make sense if he never killed any of them and they just were taken and he was the scape goat, and i just realized that thee titan mentioned he blamed the wrong person, and at that point Belos would've been SOOO far into the future it couldn't have been him he meant.

Definitely, King's siblings are archived somewhere, and the Collector was blamed for it and no one talked to him about it

- the collector rushing to help keep the Archives balanced, their body being overtaken by Growth, but he still does it because he knows it's the right thing to do and just, FUCK ME DUDE, I love him, them, little funky fella who was neglected and never taught how to play, his siblings just pushing him away because they didn't care, or maybe even used them to get the titan babies, finally realizes what it means to be kind, and good, and what to do to make friends, and does something that does not benefit him in any way instead of trying to save himself

like fuck dude I love them so much

- RAINE, WHISTLING, THE REQUIEM/RHAPSODY, MY FUCKING HEART DUDE

- The way the "NOW EAT THIS SUCKAAA" line is animated, gives me hella anime vibes, like modern day anime, Studio Trigger type stuff, fuck me it's so good

- Eda, king and Raine getting to stomp out Belos like the piece of gum he is, is so cathartic. After everything he's done, he just gets stomped out like he's nothing

- The fact that Amity so happily goes to her dad, and Odalia is just, there, and she gets nothing??? Iconic, amazing, what she deserves. I also love that Gus' dad gets to kiss his cheek, like i feel you don't get to see that enough in shows. And of course, Willow's dad's kissing on screen, ON THE LIPS IN FULL VIEW And Hunter being greeted so warmly by Darius and Eberwolfe, my heart, i care them

and there's just too much i adore about the timeskip like,,, all of it, amazing

What do you think of Hunter x Luz? In my opinion they make more sense as a couple than lumity. A relationship between them would not ruin their characters, because their storyline/arc are connected and it would serve as a parallel and foil to Caleb and Evelyn.

So this question is interesting to me because it argues their narrative purpose rather than things like their chemistry. Now, yes, I think narratively Lumity is dead. Has anyone else picked up on the fact that if not for Camila, Amity's first hint that she was now single would have been when the portal closed and Luz wasn't there? No warning, no discussion, just lies of omission and abandonment. And seeing how that was much of Luz's MO with Amity in S2B it's... It's rough to say she wouldn't be better off without Luz or to even know what of S1 Luz still is there that Amity was attracted to in the first place. And that's without getting into the simplification and girlfriendification of Amity's character for the sake of Luz. BUT S1 Lumity lives in my soul for a reason. You have a cheerful, creative, outcast girl looking for approval, magic and excitement, who's rash and impulsive but also hides because she doesn't like herself, with a serious, focused, intelligent girl who thinks everything through too much, is too rigid, and who believes the world is a cruel, uncaring place that you must be perfect to succeed in. There is so much there, so much to work with, so much potential joy and pain in equal droves that it's a genuinely beautiful thing. That for a time was extremely well written. Where the main complaint you could make was that it wasn't plot relevant (and still isn't). And you want to make a claim for Lunter having possibly been better when Hunter can often be accurately described as a discount Amity and I would argue is more plot device than character much of the time? The big one I really need to comment on is the idea that Hunter wouldn't trample other character arcs. The dude trampled on Gus in order for Huntlow shipping when in Labyrinth Runners he needed to understand Willow better than her BEST FRIEND. Her best friend who was going through an acute panic attack but her best friend nonetheless. Hunter being her emotional core was only reinforced more in the more recent episode. Not only that but his narrative role is obviously to open up the EC and Belos to the main cast. To have an 'in' of sorts to start interacting with the organization properly. Motivation to fight them. You know... Like Lilith didn't have? You know, the person betrayed and almost killed by Belos who has a streak of lashing out and doing terrible things to those she perceives as having wronged her? How cool would it have been had the show actually followed up on literally any of that except for a gag and a stinger so Lilith could have an arc about learning that these sorts of motivations, anger, revenge, jealousy, etc. are bad PERIOD, even if motivating good behavior? No, instead the curse is much more her thing now before she's then just made into an incompetent gag character. And for what? Hunter, like I said, inherits a lot from Amity including the weaknesses of her arc, such as her base character being a lie the first time we meet him. By the beginning of Hunting Palisman, he's already entirely turned around on being pure evil and confident and showing a lack of confidence, an awareness that what he is doing must be slightly wrong and an unprompted openness to Wild Magic when he has only been taught WIld Magic kills. And that's WITHOUT Luz's intervention. Luz honestly doesn't feel like she causes much change in him. Maybe wedges an opening that everyone else works on but he's already a mad but sad boy by then. He's already turning into just a general nice guy without any flavor or real personality to him besides a tragic backstory and tragic circumstance, neither of which make for an interesting character. But I want to finish this with the question of chemistry. Part of why I ship Lumischa is that Boscha gives Luz and Amity a much needed grounding force. Someone who can get them both out of their minds. Someone who they can trust to tell them the truth, blunt and clear, when they need it. Her brashness, straightforwardness and willingness to do bad things if it means solving a problem contrasts well with them while she's able to give them support in ways they struggle to give each other. The fact that her personality allows for snark and sass also helps give their relationship a new angle that doesn't feel as natural between the two lovebirds. Hunter with Luz... I mean, when they were first introduced, I could see it. I didn't think it was great but I understood. You have a boy who is pro-authority, serious and focused (again, much like early Amity) with a girl who is anarchy, wild and creative. They both have an interest in magic though, both are limited magically as well and the fandom sure does love their enemies to lovers trope, no matter how poorly done. But how long do either of those dynamics last? How much can you even say that's a consistent dynamic for Hunter for more than three episodes? What IS Hunter's character to play off of Luz? These aren't questions I have to ask about Amity. Bare minimum, they weren't questions I had to ask about Amity. And they're questions that for someone who wants to ship them, wants to hold them close and do a lot with them, should have answers as easy to find as air. And I'm gasping for anything here.
