the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belongings, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.

I wish people understood that it doesn’t matter how much time passes: what kim/kanye did to taylor will never not hurt her. She felt like her life was torn to shreds. Imagine being 26 years old (literally my age now), coming down off the most successful year of your career, and now the whole entire world is against you. Imagine seeing your name trending because people are saying you’re over, you’re a liar, you’re dead. Imagine thinking this career that you’re worked tirelessly for is over in the blink of an eye. Imagine the people who claim to love and support you suddenly deciding they don’t anymore- in fact- they are going to completely turn against you. You don’t come back from that without deep scars. It’s not possible to move on and never have something tug on the pain. It’s just not. That’s a bag of emotions…one that, I think, you don’t always know which you’re going to pull out on any given day.

We love to watch artists in pain, often to the point where I think sometimes as a society, we provoke that pain, and we just watch what happens. So there's lines about feeling like I've been in the circus, those kinds of metaphors, or feeling like I'm sort of like a witch in a haunted house. Those are some ways that I feel sometimes when I'm not able to kind of right the ship and cope with my normal coping mechanisms. So this song was just a very, very true way that I feel sometimes, and it's always good when you can be honest about those things."
