Spring onions from the #roelandstreet garden. My favourite part of buying fresh, organically grown produce is being able to plant and grow from scraps!! #thrift #gardening

Mothers have wishlists, but they're probably not things... They're hopes, and dreams, and moments. The little things we give our mothers on this special day that many celebrate around the globe, are just symbols of our wish to make all her hopes and dreams and moments real and true. My favourite place to find such symbols is @oshun_shop_noordhoek , just a walk away from my home, and a lovely place to sit amongst the buddhas and be still.

In this world where life and death dance in a never-ending loop, we lurch and lurk in a tumultuous love affair with light and dark, always knowing and never believing that they are both just the same. And we are nothing, and everything in a moment. (at Noordhoek, Cape Town)

On this day in 1994 I cast my vote for the first time. That freedom and right was reclaimed by the majority of citizens in my country on this day in 1994. It was the day my parents cast their votes for the first time. The funny thing is I was in Israel at the time, and the Israeli soldiers at the voting station politely told me (in Hebrew) that this vote was just for South Africans, mistaking me for an Israeli... With absolute glee I flashed my passport and told them that some of us have been waiting a very long time for this... I think I might actually have laugh-cried!! #freedomday🇿🇦

Taking photos in other people's gardens is instant inspiration...and when you are capturing buddhas at the same time, then you fill up with something rather special: quietness. Not the noiseless emptiness of sound, but the stillness of a restless mind; no chatter but the birds and the rustle of plants...and no, it's not the Cape cobra that lives in the garden of this little bit of heaven that the owner @oshun_shop_noordhoek calls home!?! I did not spend my #earthday here, though. I spent it in my garden... With its own menagerie of snake, squirrel, mice and birds. And thought about ways I can cut out plastic from my regular, basic shopping. It's not easy, but it's possible. It's all just a choice. And I can choose to break my silence with my wallet: if we stop buying brands that sell anything in plastic, we are send a very clear message. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone boycotted brands who still package with plastic?? Let your money do the talking. Do you know how many times I forget my fabric bags , and end up buying another plastic bag out of desperation...!? So, I pledge to always keep a resusable fabric bag in my handbag, and make every effort to reduce my purchase of products packaged in plastic. I recycle, but that's not enough. I have to change the way I buy, because that determines how brands sell...!!

"Faith is almost the bottom line of creativity; it requires a leap of faith any time we undertake a creative endeavor, whether this is going to the easel, or the page, or onto the stage - or for that matter, in a homelier way, picking out the right fabric for the kitchen curtains, which is also a creative act." I haven't painted pears in a while. As one obsession gives way to another, I begin to learn the lessons that grow me. Whether it's painting, photography or even crochet, if one thing doesn't work try another; it doesn't matter how many tries it takes, nobody's counting. And if it really doesn't work, then start again. Know where your reset button is, and use it. Life is entangled enough... don't trip yourself up when you get to a knot. Some knots, after all, are art.

While I was shooting some pics over @oshun_shop_noordhoek , a woman strolled into the garden to look for #capetownrocks ... There's a Facebook page called Cape Town Rocks, and members paint and decorate pebbles and rocks and then hide them all over Cape Town for other to find. When you find them you may either keep them or hide them again, but be sure to let the group know where (approximately) you have hidden them for others to find. Much better than looking for Pokémon, methinks.
